I was on jury duty today and I wanted to have some Shawarma so I looked up on yelp and found the K-pop shop was about a 20 minute walk away. The menu was a bit confusing, but I know that I like grilled veggies and Greek salad and then Ike was able to pick my protein that I wanted so that seemed easy enough. The base price with falafel or chicken Shawarma was Close to $16 but since I chose the meat, they added two dollars to my total. It took about 10 minutes for them to assemble my meal, but my veggies were cooked fresh on the stove, which was really nice. They tasted very freshly cooked just as they would as if I had cooked them myself at home. I was there about 1245 on a Monday and there were a few people there and they had some takeout orders so my order took about 10 minutes before I could walk out the door with it. They had a nice condiment bar where you could pick out some yogurt with dill sauce and then they're famous garlic yogurt sauce, as well as a jalapeño sauce And another spicy hot one that I would never try. When I got back to the jury room to eat my meal, I saw that there was a nice quantity of the fresh salad and the grilled vegetables but the meat was piled high! A local told us to check out the Kebab Shop, so we headed to the edge of the Gaslamp and thought we had found a regular, decent donner spot. I ordered a falafel wrap with fries and was stunned when the most gigantic wrap appeared on a tray. This thing was the size of my forearm and as thick as my bicep. Unless you've been here before, there was no way to tell from the photos on the menu or even the prices that this would be so big. But size aside, it's a damn good wrap - the falafel was smooth, not grainy, with plenty of flavor and the fries inside the wrap added a nice touch. Lots of textures and flavors (plenty of sauces available, too), however you'd like it. If you're in San Diego, I, too, would recommend the Kebab Shop for the biggest, tastiest wraps you'll ever have. I thought it came with some pita but when I got by to my hotel room, no pita in the bag. The Kebab Shop is THE SPOT to stop at in East Village if you're looking for some solid shawarma! I've been to this location multiple times and have been delighted every time with the freshness and quality of the meals! This time around, I ordered a salad bowl with half chicken shawarma and half lamb/beef gyros, topped with all the standard toppings, and fries. I also ordered a side of falafel just to give them a try. While I was waiting for my order, I loaded up on the sauces at the condiment station then claimed a spot in the spacious dining room. The OG garlic sauce and the spicy red sauce are my absolute FAVORITE! Within a few minutes, my name was called and my order was fresh, piping hot, and ready to be eaten. What a SIGHT it was to see the variety of colors and flavors all beautifully placed in the bowl. Every bit was absolutely delicious! The falafel were also pretty good! THE BLACK AND WHITE: The kebab shop was a short walk from the hotel I was staying downtown. The inside seating space is small but you could still find space and eat. I had to take the food to go since I was meeting up with someone. I went with the lamb kebab and the wrap of the kebab is ergonomically sound. It was easy to eat the kebab and then peel down the aluminum wrap to eat more. Meat was fresh, veggies inside was fresh, and always loved the french fries for that starchy crunch. THE FINAL BAMBOO: For a lamb kebab, the cost was only $12. Great value and filled me up quickly. Highly recommend the kebabs here. read more

I used to love coming to this place back in the day when I was in San Diego. Honestly, I went in today and something was just different. It has to be some new ownership or some new ingredients or just a brand new spot, because this was not the same kebab shop we used to go to. The food was actually pretty disgusting. The only thing good there was the hummus, possibly the yogurt and honestly, the water. The service was amazing though, so that's why I'm giving it two stars. We were staying at a hotel in downtown and we wanted something quick and healthy that was within walking distance and didn't cost too much. This place fit the bill, and was familiar too since I've been a few times to the location near home. I went in to order so I could take advantage of the check in offer. The guys working there were busy. There was one cashier and one person making the food. The cashier was also helping with the food. He wasn't rude, but wasn't friendly either. Makes sense I guess. He was busy. Our food came out in less than 10 minutes. I got 2 chicken wraps, they were delicious and fresh though I could've used a little more chicken. The crave fries were good and filling and we'll work the price with the check in. My side Greek salad was a little wilted but still good. The rice was good and had a nice subtle flavor. Like I said I walked. But there is metered street parking. Oh and get plenty of the sauces. I like to control the amount of sauce that I get. So I always get it on the side. Let me start this review off with TKS is special and a fantastic product... BUT on this night with Alphonso and his team that was on a "crew shift" at around 7pm it was a DISASTER. I ordered a chicken and lamb kebab (with fries in each) with a side of fries b/c it's a Friday night to start a 3 day weekend. Called it in from Balboa Park and was there in 10 minutes. Easy & Smooth...well not so much with this TKS crew. No sauce, NADA on either Kebab...dry as the Sahara Desert... so dang sad this TKS Team pushed out a product that was piss poor and dry AF. Here's the good thing though right?! There would be extra sauce in the bag...well, not with this crack team. I was told you have to ask, there's no prompt from the guy ringing you up for $40 clams...if you don't ask it's your fault there's no sauce in the bag (or the kebabs). I worked in restaurants growing up, customer service would dictate (one would think) to ask the question. Alphonso let me know due to the "shift change" this was my fault and there was also sauce in the Kebabs (he lied). I guess the moral of this long post is if you go to the TKS on 9th in the East Village do not trust @Alphonso and make sure you ask for any additional sauces or any sauce in the Kebab or else this is your fault. I love coming here but today I had a disappointing experience. Today we ordered food to go and when we got home we realized: 1) they gave us chicken instead of lamb we paid extra for 2) they barely gave me any salad. It was 3/4 full and last time they gave me plenty 3) the rice they gave us tasted old and stale. I feel like it was probably leftovers from last night This is our first time ordering to go for lunch. I wish I could go back and ask for a new plate but it's a hassle to go back on a work day during lunch. Next time we are sticking to eating there or coming for dinner. read more

Missing a bowl on a $250 order. We really liked this place up until today. I come in and spend 200-$250 every week for a crew of 14 people. Today I ordered, stayed close by and answered any questions about my order they had. Food was made promptly and as I was leaving they ensured all my items were labeled and marked. I left. Drive 20 minutes away back to work. I couldn't figure out which bowl was which. The numbers didn't coincide with the bowls. None of the bowls had the names from the menu on them. They all look the same. None of the substitutions matched the order. We are also MISSING a whole lunch. I'm beyond disappointed as well as 14 people I was getting lunch for. I always hit up Kebab Shop, but today Kevin seriously hooked it up. This spot is consistently clean, fast, and the staff actually cares, but Kevin went above and beyond. The sauces here are next level, the meat is always fresh, and honestly I've pretty much tried everything on the menu at this point. Kebab and only the kebab! Great spot for a kebab sandwich. The service was pleasant and ambiance was okay. I took mine to go for a more fine dining experience in my hotel room overlooking Petco Park. My only thing is... the sauce could have been more zesty, the kebab could have been more meaty and the price could have been less hefty. Next time I would double up on the kebab and ask for more sauce. They do have several sauces you can take to go as you please which gives you an added bonus. The falafels were tasty, but the spices used were a tad too much for my liking... not sure if it was the cummin or what, but falafel doesn't need all that dry spice mixed into the batter. read more

I order food from here probably once or twice every other week. The customer service is great, the speed is great, and the food is great. But there is always something missing in my bowl. Either the crumbles, or the hummus, or the raw onions, or the chicken is such a small amount. It's a bummer on an overall great experience.
