Wow! Lovely waiter and manager! The service was slow and sometimes I think we were forgotten but the waiter was incredibly friendly. When I was asked how my steak was I honestly, and embarrassingly, said it was a bit well done and dry. I never like to complain about my food but I had ordered medium rare and like it more juicy. I was very hungry and wanted to eat with my family so when they offered to remake it I declined. Then they offered me a steak to take home! It went well and above what I was ever expecting because they gave me a full meal! It was also my mother's birthday and we got a huge piece of whipped ice cake for her birthday on the house. This was our first time back to the Keg in awhile. Our server was a lovely lady named Samantha who was just the right amount of helpful without being overbearing. The complimentary bread was a fresh crusty loaf of sourdough (I believe), warm and soft on the inside and perfect smeared with whipped butter...mmmm. I chose scallops & bacon which came with a delicious spicy dipping sauce for a tasty app. My main course was a half rack of fall off the bone pork, ribs, slaw and this incredible stuffed potato that was like mashed potatoes & a loaded potato had a love child. Seriously delicious!!! The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars was the ranch dressing incident at the wait station...oh well, accidents happen. Went on a sunday at 5:30 with my fiancee, Noah was waiting on us and was perfectly nice. Showed up at the right times to make sure we were liking everything with a really great energy. My fiancee enjoyed the prime rib(perfect) and twice baked potatoe which had so much flavour. I had no leftovers of my steak and shrimp with the most delicious garlic mashed potatoes! All I have to say about this place is great customer service and great great food. My first visit here I ordered fillet mignon with a side of potatoes and it was amazing. The meat was tender and juicy and cooked perfectly! My second visit had a hiccup but I ratted it 4 stars for a reason. Went here about a week ago with my boyfriend and his family. I have been hesitant about going here ( I usually went to the SEC Keg), as my experiences here in the past (I haven't been here in a couple of years) were really bad. The food used to be gross, and the wait time for food was horrendous no matter what time of day - I used to wait an hour or more for food even if I just went with my bf. Well last Sunday I went here and the food was AMAZING! We had arrived right when they opened - well technically 3:05 (they open @ 3pm on Sundays). My bf and I shared the Garlic Cheese Toast as an appetizer, and it was to die for. There were 6 thick slices of baguettes smothered in cheese and it was so yummy, cheesy and garlic-ky (fresh garlic!). Bf ordered the Rib steak cooked medium rare, and as I had a sample, it was perfectly cooked with the right kind of seasoning. The garlic mashed is an instead favourite. My mouth is salivating talking about this haha. I ordered one of their specials : Baked Halibut with Honey Butter as the dip and garlic mashed on the side. A very thick fillet, and cooked nicely. My bf's family had no complaints for what they ordered. Kimberly, our server was incredibly kind and courteous. For a special occasion my bf and I have decided to come here again. The only issue is the wait time. We were one of the first several customers and there were 5 of us in all, but it took about a 40-50 min wait for our main dishes after the appetizers. It's not as long as my previous visits, and maybe it was because we were there at 3:05, but alas it was still something I didn't like. We were lucky to find a spot on a Wednesday night without a long wait. The decor is nothing special but standard keg setup. The location however is convinient especially after a long shopping spree in the malls in that area. The service was attentive yet felt a bit curt. The house red was actually pretty good. The ceaser salad had way too much dressing. I could barely taste anything else. The filet mignon was a bit over done...not a medium rare for sure. What an amazing dinner with friends! Our server was fantastic! He was attentive, funny and professional. Our food arrived in a timely manner and was everything the menu promised! The expertise of our server when it came to which wine would best suit our culinary choices was amazing. He took into account what each person ordered and then recommended a wine that would compliment them all! The chef prepared the steaks to perfection as well as the appetizers and desserts. I always eat steak only at this restaurant. They can get it wrong and they have, but the odds of getting it right the first time are the greatest here. I like it medium to medium-well, so I order medium to account for any time the steak might spend in the warmer before it gets to the table. My favourite so far is the Sirloin Oscar. The drinks used to be the best, not at all watered down, with their Singapore Sling being better than the original at the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Not so much anymore. Fortunately the recipe for the "improved" Singapore Sling is safe with me, even if The Keg no longer has it, and will be passed on at least to my next generation. The service is the kind I grew up with, prim and proper - not too informal unlike most places, so I like it. The ambience can be great if you get a good table, but still too noisy going by the classiness of the place, as the clientele is obviously not all sophisticated. The prices are not too bad for the quality, albeit higher than all but the most expensive restaurants. This restaurant will always have a special place in my mind, because it is here that I trained my young son at the time in table manners and sophistication when eating at a fine restaurant, and the formal service made him feel important and respected. read more

We went to the Keg for an early supper this past Sunday. We thought if we showed up around 4PM we would beat the rush. Wrong! It was very busy even at that early hour (they had just opened at three o'clock). Fortunately somebody else in our party arrived before us and secured a table. Our waiter was super friendly and completely unflustered by the busy ambience - calm and steady like he was in the middle of a storm, debris hurling past him. I ordered the Chicken & Ribs which came with fries. The food was very good even though the meat didn't slide off the bone of the ribs like I would've liked. The chicken was slightly on the crispy side just like I like it. Even though I really enjoy the food at the Keg it's not my absolute goto place to eat because I'm not a fan of its busy, hectic atmosphere. There's always constant motion going on all around your table and it's noisy. I don't enjoy having to yell at the people at my table to make them hear my dinner conversation. Also, I never understood the fetish for sawdust and stained wood that seems to be permeating every steakhouse these days. Took my dad to this location for his birthday dinner tonight. Restaurant was fairly quiet as our reservation was for 4pm so it was nice to get there early and he able to hear each other talk. Our server was a little scatterbrained but everything made it to the table in a good amount of time and tasted great! Between the four of us at the table there was ribs, chicken and ribs, steak, and steak and seafood. Everything was delicious. Steaks were cooked perfectly and the seafood was melt in your mouth good. We opted for dessert and the brownie sundae was the perfect ending. Not super sweet and a large portion for the price. All in all it was a great dining experience. If you want a solid steakhouse in Edmonton, any Keg location is probably still your best, most affordable option. This westside Keg location, while not the best in the city (I feel that honor goes to the Keg just south of Whyte Avenue), offers up what Kegs do best: steak, prime rib, steak, seafood, and if you hadn't already guessed: steak. We had a late dinner at this location, where I tried the steak and half lobster deal. Lobster and steak were both done perfectly - another great thing about the Keg is they know what "medium rare" means, when so many other restaurants in Edmonton don't. A good evening dining experience that was delayed an hour and a half due to a malfunctioned oven that was used to make the chicken that was ordered by one member of our party. Must say though that the kitchen staff came to our table to apologize and explain the delay which I found impressive. The sirloin Oscar taste was great, and prepared to my expectation. They had no issue fitting 9 of us in and also asked if we were celebrating a birthday and if there were going to be any children with us. Our server brought us to our table - which was not really the best table set up for 9 people, but it was a very busy night so I can understand why we got what we did. This is the first time in a LONG time I've been to The Keg, but we had a gift card, so we went out for a date night. :) It's a good thing we planned ahead and made a reservation on OpenTable -- it was 6:15pm when we arrived and the dining room was packed! It was even worse when we left around 7:30, with people waiting at the front to be seated. The CONS: This location is bright and open, which is nice, but unfortunately with all that openness comes a downside -- it is very loud when it is busy. And it is easy to feel exposed in a booth that is so close to other tables that you can make awkward eye contact with so many people around you. THE PROS: The food at The Keg is always fabulous, even for someone like myself who doesn't eat much meat at all. Between my husband and I, we split 4 or 5 appetizers around the table and took a large bit of a Caesar salad home for lunch the next day. The service was prompt and well-timed, we never felt rushed and we had time to converse without feeling like we were waiting an overly long time for our order to arrive. It's not unusually that we have 1 meal in our group that is a bit less than the keg standard, they always corrected. But this visit stands out, today was one of those days that it happened again the difference today was not just that it was corrected, but the over and way above service the whole time we were here from our waitress, Jill to the manger who made sure that we would not only happy but will return. My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday dinner. The service and the food we received was perfect. Our waiter was attentive and super knowledgeable about the menu options. I ordered the teriyaki sirloin steak with a baked potato and he ordered the top sirloin with mashed potatoes and shrimp on the side. Both steaks came out of the kitchen nicely. We both wanted medium rare and it was a perfect medium rare steam we got. The steak itself was seasoned well and was nice and juicy. The baked potato I got was cooked well and seasoned nicely. We were both extremely impressed! As for starters, we ordered the sesame tuna tatake with chips and it was delicious! The starter was fresh and definitely readied our appetite for dinner. Food was alright but my steak was over cooked and when I said so, the response was "ok I hope you enjoy the rest of the meal" To top it all off a server had rushed by spilling drinks all over the floor. I know everything is costing more these days but I feel the Keg is getting a bit too pricey for what they do. They are still busy so I guess people are ok with it. However I needto say, I always liked their iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese dressing. It was about $8 just a short while ago but now it's $11.50. You might say well that's ok for a starter, but at 4 wedges per lettuce that would be $46 for a lettuce, but wait it gets worse because now you don't actually get a wedge. They obviously cut the lettuce into a wedge but then separate the leaves and put a small pile on top of each other and apply the dressing. My point is that it looks like they get about 8 portions from a lettuce At $11.50 a plate so $92 a lettuce. Who would pay $92 for a lettuce ? Outrageous. read more

Troyan is the area manager of the keg and is a terrible terrible manager. He didn't listen to a word I said. He was argumentative over the phone after I took MY time to explain AGAIN the TERRIBLE experience I had. He also refused to rectify the problem or have a care in this world that ANOTHER dinner of mine was WASTED. I don't think these people even begin to think that they are wasting meat, animals. I had to sit there for close to 2 hours before I was even able to leave with yet another steak that was overcooked. Do you think when you come to the table and ask how everything is for the second time I'm going to sit there and wait for a third. Give me a break.The food was sent back again I cannot believe this is a higher end restaurant . The keg in general will never ever ever get another cent from my wallet again. Ever. Sometimes after a week of fish or chicken I get that craving for some good old Alberta steak! My go to place is always The Keg. This was my first time at this location, as I usually go to the northside Skyview one, but also have been to the South Edmonton Commons and the Whyte Ave ones too. My first impression is that this must be the oldest of the 4. It is much smaller. Usually at the peak times at 5-7 you can be waiting anywhere from 20 mins to over an hour, but expect a bit of a longer wait her due to the size. We opted to go to the lounge side since it was only a 25 mins wait, as opposed to hour and an half for the dining room side. The lounge side is very small compared to the other locations. You definitely feel more side by side with other tables. Hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Just doesn't seem to have the same cozy and intimate atmosphere compared to the other locations. Food and service I have never been disappointed regardless of which location I've gone to. I love my steaks med-rare with some pink in the middle and they've always seem to get that right, compared to some places that always seem to make it a bit more medium. My one complaint is that I've noticed in the last year or two they seem to have cheaped out on the side veggies you got with your steak. They now seem to give you 2 measly sliced red peppers and a couple of green beans. I understand that prices have gone up on produce and other food stuff, but the prices at Keg have reflected this with a modest price increase (steaks from $28-$42), which I'm fine with. So why not give a bit more veggies? And I remember they also use to have a grilled tomato with the veggies. That's my only gripe. Otherwise it's the one place I don't mind treating myself to or taking a date to once in a while. Just due to the size of this location, it would probably be at the bottom of my list of all the Kegs I'd go to first. This is the second time we have tried to dine at this Keg and left extremely disappointed. We were given a $200 gift card and thought it would be a nice place to have my 50th birthday. We decided to go on a Friday evening...which we knew would be busy, but it was our night to go out with the family. My daughter took it upon herself to head there early to get on the waiting list so the rest of our table of 6 had a shorter wait. When she arrived, the restaurant was not even 1/2 full, plenty of tables...but she was told they couldn't put her on a waiting list until the rest of the party arrived...which was a 1/2 hour from then. Needless to say she was upset. They said it was their policy. The rest of us arrived at 5:30 and the restaurant is now packed...we go to talk to the hostess and she proceeds to tell us it will now be at least an hour's wait. At this time my daughter is so upset that I decide to talk to the manager...who of course tells us the policy before I even say hi. We decide to leave even just to honour my daughter who was too upset to settle down and wouldn't even enjoy herself if we did get a table. On our way to our car...the general manager came out to try to tell us there is a table we would be first to have in about 20 min...at least he made an effort...more than I can say for the hostesses who really have no clue about customer service or the other manager who tried to explain a policy which makes absolutely no sense at all. We stopped into the bar for a beer and a burger tonight. Our server was awesome! A genuinely nice person who gave us perfect service with a big smile! We each had the prime rib burger and as always, they did not disappoint!
