Filet mignon

Steakhouse of the year. I can't lie about how well cooked was the meat. Reasonable quality price. Very impressive. Swift service, dim light. Perfect for a date. Unless you are a yelper and you take picture endlessly. But that's another story. Enjoy

This Keg is located in the heart of downtown at the byword market in Ottawa. They do have an outdoor patio as well! Inside, you got your typical mood lighting to set the ambiance for a intimate dinner. Onto the food, baked Brie- very tasty the cheese comes piping warn, the basil pesto is delicious and jelly is a good pairing with a bit if a kick. It balanced the pesto. Teriyaki Sirloin- was a hit. The flavour was impeccable. The juice was oozing from the steak (medium rare). It paired really well with the mashed potatoes. Only thing was if you can finish your food and would like to take it home. With no gravy on the mashed potatoes. The steak does get dry. Top Sirlion- Great!

The service was phenomenal, they took great care of my shellfish allergy and made sure everything was great. The food was cooked perfectly and to taste, i didn't care for the veggies but that's a personal preference. The twice baked potato was quite good as well. We sat upstairs where it's generally much quieter, which is more for us. Overall a great evening

My dad got the filet mignon with an additional shrimp and scallop, and I got the lobster tail dinner and we both shared to make our own surf and turf! The food was good, the texture was tender and not chewy, and it was especially tasty with the melted butter. The ambiance was nice as we were seated on the patio and the service was great! They were also dog friendly :) I ordered a virgin Caesar and I always ask for it not too spicy, but it always comes too spicy at most restaurants, however, this one was perfect!!!

After taking in the Canada Day festivities earlier this month, I walked around ByWard Market for a couple of hours. My phone rang. I ended up taking the call sitting on a cement stoop at the corner of York and Dalhousie. Hunger pangs took over after my call was over. I needed to fetch some lunch. I looked over to my left and saw The Keg. I hadn't been there in nearly a decade. I used to work by one at Yonge and Eglinton, and loved eating there now and agin, but don't drop by the area much these days. I decided to head over to this restaurant. The patio was open. Since is was a hot, humid, sunny day, and I had spent enough time out in the sun, I opted to sit in the restaurant and enjoy the air conditioning. As with all Keg restaurants, this one was dark. The adjustment took a good fifteen seconds. I had an entire corner to myself. I had to use the women's washroom. It's next to a gorgeous display case of wines. The washroom was clean and classy looking. I came back and my server came over. I ordered a mojito. I was on vacation and felt like it. It was refreshing and hit the spot. My server let me know about a special. I went for it. It was an 8-ounce sirloin steak, with crispy shrimp and scallops, veggies, and smashed, pan-fried potatoes. A sriracha aioli accompanied the dish. Warm sourdough bread came first. I ate most of it. Normally, I have a slice or two. Yep, I was hungry. My meal came. I was thrilled. It was yummy. The sirloin was done medium-well, which was perfect. It was flavourful. The crispy shrimp and scallops were delightful! They were also perfectly done. I liked the veggies and mashed, pan-fried potatoes. The sriracha aioli was creative and worked well. I enjoyed the mild kick to complete the entire dish. For dessert, I went with a mini creme brulee. It was the perfect size. The creme brulee was creamy inside and crunchy on top. Yum! My server was enthusiastic and friendly. I had great a experience. I wish that it wasn't so dark in the restaurant, though. It's like I need to switch my phone's flashlight on to navigate around the restaurant. Other than that, if you want to treat yourself to a good meal, come here. (243)

Very busy and well staffed. We got seated right away and our drinks taken care of swiftly. We ordered our to die for favourite, the fried cauliflower, and it was spot on with the nostalgic mouth watering taste, pure bliss. As well as the biggest surprise ever, unlimited warm bread! It played a great part in our enjoyment of the restaurant, as we had ordered our meals, but mine (Mediterranean Cauliflower) had been called back before it was put out for having the wrong sauce. A bit odd but I was glad to be compensated with a free item, a drink for my younger brother. The floor manager even came to apologize. They gave me the correct order and it was worth the wait! The cucus and pistachio sauce was worth it fully! I love pistachio and it wasn't overpowered or overpowering. It's a lovely light but filling dish, and a wonder to the taste buds. But definitely the cherry on top of the experience at The Keg was our cheery server Kat! She was so very nice and polite, making jokes, etc. The best server I've ever had at any restaurant!

Uh...yeah. I've experienced better. This is a restaurant that has a whole lot of versions of strip, sirloin, and filet steaks. They only have one Ribeye a la carte. That's your warning sign right there; a warning which I did not heed. I had the misfortune of ordering this piece of meat which was suspect from the first bite. It's unfortunate, but a chain like the Keg cannot compete with the passion and care that goes into a quality one-off restaurant. The streamlining of the menus, the standardization, the sourcing of the food and the sheer volume detract from the experience. The dinner is likely a little less expensive than a first rate steak joint, but you get what you pay for. I don't even know how to properly say this. I suppose the best description I can give is that it didn't taste like meat. In fact it didn't taste like anything at all. Imagine a completely neutral food. It was well seasoned, but lacked any familiar taste of beef. I ordered it with a couple of lobster tails that were tasty. I wouldn't be surprised if they were frozen earlier that day, but for 20$, it was decent. Mashed potatoes were served piping hot. The caesar salad is simple and the hot sourdough bread is pretty good. Service was excellent and this place is packed to the rafters with the good folks of Ottawa who don't have the greatest selection of restaurants as compared to other cities. I get the appeal. It's simple, salty, and consistent. That said, it is not a serious contender when talking about steakhouses.

My daughter turned 18, and where's a better place to celebrate than Restaurant E18hteen…read more I booked a table a week before to make sure we have a table. Thankfully, there were 2 spots left. The place is very elegant inside out. The service was perfect, music was very classic, food was delicious. An amazing fine dining experience on every level. I felt that their menu is limited. We ordered the following: Grilled Octopus with mint chermoula, roasted chickpeas, 'nduja aiolo, blistered tomatoes & chicory. The Octopus was cooked to perfection & the flavors were amazing. Vol au vent d'escargot Puff pastry stuffed with braised escargot l, goat cheese crumbled, spinach, Parmigiano & mizuna My daughter loves escargot & she enjoyed it very much. Halibut with shrimp & Octopus escabeche, shishito peppers, stewed lentils, butter braised asparagus, garlic parsley oil, cilantro mojo & watercress. It was so good, each component was delicious, when you eat them together it was heaven. Two, 7 oz angus reserve tenderloin it comes with two sides, and a sauce. We had one with mashed & mushroom, the second fries & Ceasars salad. Both steaks were a perfect meduim rare! Mushrooms & Ceasars salad were so good. The mashed lacked seasoning & the fries were too salty. For dessert, they celebrated my daughter with a complimentary pavalova which I thought was so sweet! It was a wonderful surprise. We also ordered pistachio chocolate and it was OMG! The perfect ending.

Upon arrival our waitress told us she had read the notes and was aware. Much to our surprise, they served her a beet salad....with cow cheese!! Later that evening she became ill as a result. But that wasn't the worst of it. We waited 1 hr and 15 minutes for our main meals. Leading up to that moment they also forgot to serve her gluten free bread, which was store bought and like cardboard. That was 20 minutes after I had finished mine. At this point we had had enough of this atrocious experience. Rather than wait longer, we spoke with both the waitress and maitre'd and asked for our bill. They both lied and told us it would be ready in 2 minutes. Ten minutes later, they showed up with it as we were in the process of leaving and had our coats on. We agreed to sit back down and try the mains. My wife had a sablefish meal that was flavourless and not fresh to say the least. I had a lobster tail meal whereby the lobster was watery and not fresh. Needless to say 1 bite of each meal and the coats were back on and we were settling our reduced bill and leaving. What a disappointment for our special Valentines outing. Never will we go back, and I advise people to do the same.

The renovations look nice in here. We walked in and were promptly greeted and seated. The space is really open and acoustics were nice but it also wasn't packed. I believe they specialize in seafood but I don't think I saw a ton of tanks with fresh seafood like you would see in Toronto but maybe I missed it. They brought us tea and menus. They have a set menu but also a bunch of items that were written on paper as I suspect they're trialling different dishes. They also have a dim sum menu that seems like it's served all day...for those weirdos that have off hour dim sum ;) The prices here are much higher than a lot of places in Ottawa as an FYI. We ended up ordering a vegetable dish, a noodle dish and a couple of dim sum items. Yes we're those weirdos but we were curious the quality! The dishes were all alright. The vegetable stir fry was nice. Would order again. The beef noodle stir fry was alright. The cook was decent, the noodles unfortunately seemed like they were rehydrated vs something fresh. If they can source that, would think it goes to another level. The siu mai sum was OK and had shrimp and pork. I don't think I'd get it again. We also got a clay pot rice. It was a really basic one and I think the cook could have been a little better. There wasn't enough crispy rice on the bottom. I'll definitely be coming back to check out the set menus and try some other dishes as this is a quick walk for me.

This was the better. Literally, this is the best meal out I've ever had. There was only one tiny disappointment, which was that I'd looked at an old menu online and didn't realize and picked out this amazing sounding drink beforehand. If you see the Major Payne online, don't pick it in advance! LOL I did get a super nice Prosecco at happy hour for a fabulous price. My server was Jamie, and I ordered every suggestion she made, and was not disappointed. Started with a salad, perfect mix of sweet with charred peanuts for a touch of bitter. The cheese that was on that salad was phenomenal. One of the best salads I've ever eaten. Dinner was the lobster risotto. Hands down, best risotto I've ever eaten...and I thought Vessel in NOLA would never be beaten. So creamy. The butter poached lobster was perfect, so tender. There were macadamia nuts, which broke up the creaminess of the risotto and crispy sage, which was also a perfect break from that rich, perfectly cooked rice. Never had a better dish out. I'll be dreaming about it for months after I go home. I wasn't even thinking about dessert, but Jamie brought over a menu with so many gluten-free options. I got a mini pavlova that had coconut cream inside and raspberries and blueberries. I don't usually enjoy desserts with berries, but the tang was such a perfect compliment to the vanilla/coconut. Nice crispy shell too. It was so light that after the risotto, it didn't make me feel overstuffed. Such a cute, homey vibe, and I had a seat by the window and could watch the busy street. Wonderful that they had a parking lot too (free). Service was perfect. Jamie had a real sense for when she should stop by and kept my water glass filled at all times (and it was small). She was amazing. I left my glasses in the window sill and had pulled the curtain, so I missed them when I left. I went right back and she had held onto them for me. This place is perfection. I know it will be one of the top highlights of this birthday trip! Please, visit and have that lobster risotto. Your tummy will do a happy dance!

Will never darken this door again! One of the worst cases of…read moresolo diner syndrome I've ever encountered. By this, I mean you show up as a solo diner and they treat you like you are not worth their time. It took me almost an hour just to park. This is a very busy shopping/dining centre, which I didn't mind, but the parking garage was packed, hard to find a spot. But I did it. Went up to the restaurant. There were four groups waiting...I counted them as I went in. Many empty tables. This was the classic case of a bunch of people standing around at the front like deer in headlights. They ignored me and two of the three walked off before anyone even acknowledged me. Finally, the young lady with dark hair wearing a green cardigan spoke to me. I was a waitress in college many years. Some of this generation (not the amazing restaurant I went to after) wouldn't know customer service if it slapped them in the face. She asked how many and as soon as I said, "Just one," she screwed up her nose and made a face and totally wrote me off. I got the copout: I can seat you at the bar. I explained I have RA and those stools are torture for me (also twisted my knee and the bar stool at Prohibition the night before was so painful I had to move). She said I could eat outside. It was 83 degrees. I told her it was too hot. She said there was a 2.5 hour wait. Bullshit. I've worked in restaurants, eaten at MANY. Four groups waiting? She just wrote me off. Too bad for you. I order appies, drinks...have a bill like a couple and tip to make up0 for it too. Ask the servers at restaurant I went to instead. So rude. No wonder so many restaurants are closing. I wouldn't go back if you PAID me to eat there. There are far too many options to treat paying customers this way. If she is any indication of the service there, I dodged a bullet! And found a gem instead. Good luck!
