My family and I booked 2 rooms at the Kern Lodge. I read on our reservation details that the office closes early so I contacted the management (like they said to do if you were coming in late) and the manager Bruce was there to check us in within 2 minutes! There was a mix up with the rooms being cleaned but it was worked out quickly. Everything we needed was quickly supplied. All of the staff were friendly, prompt and helpful. The Lodge is in a great location, within walking distance (2 mins) of a fully stocked supermarket, and 1 minute to the brewery. The cabin and room we had were clean and comfortable, with lovely comfy beds, and decent kitchen facilities. The air conditioning works well, and kept the cabin cool in the summer heat. The pool is clean and well presented. We used the gas bbq in the little garden area to cook our one night and enjoyed having them available. The outside areas could be a little cleaner and better maintained, but other that that we think these cabins are excellent value for money and would happily stay again in the future. read more

The hotel manager, Bruce, was very helpful. We had a large group of 24 people in 11 rooms. Coordination could have been a challenge. We showed up and all rooms had been assigned making check in very painless, smooth and pleasant. Clean rooms and spacious. Highly recommended. Kern Lodge is such a hidden gem! Staying here feels like stepping back in time--in the best way possible. The lodge has this charming, vintage character that makes the whole experience feel unique and cozy. The staff were incredibly friendly and courteous, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room (107) was spotless and thoughtfully set up, with lots of windows that let in beautiful natural light. The small kitchenette was a great bonus, too. And I have to mention the water pressure--honestly some of the best we've had in a hotel in a long time! The location is super convenient as well. There's a market just around the corner, and you can easily walk to the downtown area for shopping, restaurants, and everything a tourist could want. ***The only thing to note is that the shower stalls are on the smaller side, so if you're larger than average, it might feel a bit tight. Our Girl Scouts troop wanted to do camping as the lodging tied to our rafting trip but when I noticed that camping was more expensive than staying at the lodge, at the lodge I booked! Booking was easy - scored a 1-bedroom place (bedroom had a twin and full bed, main living area had a king bed with non-pull-out couch, mini-fridge with freezer area, keurig, 3/4 bathroom) and stayed for 1 night. It's an older place and it was Memorial Day weekend so the one friendly guy was running around to help folks, didn't respond to my texts asking about wifi. BedBugs!!! Cleanliness is a must! Went up for a football weekend in lake Isabella and our room was dirty upon arrival. The floors were sticky and not wiped down on night stand. Out of 4 other family's staying in same hotel similar issues. Room 115 was our room went to bed and woke up with bed bugs.. Iivid and freaking out the hotel manager was missing in action til 5 am so we talked showed him pictures he got me bags for everything in my room. Got additional bags for suitcases and bigger stuff from store up the road. Owner made it right with full refund but still disgusting and not up to health and cleanliness standards. We booked through hotels.com, and when we arrived they said they didn't have our reservation - it hadn't pushed to their system - and they didn't have a room large enough to accommodate us. As a family of 5, it can be hard to find lodging, and we weren't able to find a replacement room in Kernville that late on a weekend, and ended up needing to drive to Bakersfield for the night and then drive back in the morning. They assured us they would approve the refund with hotels.com. Hotels.com has been unable to reach them, both of their phone numbers are disconnected, and we have not been refunded. Hotels.com noted that the hotel had in fact confirmed our reservation when placed, so the mistake was 100% on them for double booking. read more

I've been coming to the lake my entire life, car camping the dispersed areas. I brought my wife for the first time and decided to get a suite here at the Kern Lodge. We were not disappointed. The room was clean, and we even had a private yard, which came in handy since we brought our dog, Tinkerbell. The staff was friendly, and it is conveniently located in town, just a walk from Riverside Park and a couple of bars open late as well. We will be back with family and friends. read more

BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK! I don't typically slam a business without attempting to sort it out directly with the business first. Hear me out. On March 12, 2023, I booked a room directly with The Kern Lodge for 2 nights in June 2023 because my husband and I were going rafting on the Lower Kern. On April 12th, I received an email from the rafting company stating they had to cancel our trip because of dangerously high water levels. I immediately contacted The Kern Lodge by email and canceled my June 6/7 reservation and provided an explanation for the cancellation. After not hearing anything from The Kern Lodge, I sent another email on 4/14 requesting they confirm receipt of my cancellation request. Crickets. In the following week, I made multiple calls to two phone numbers listed for the hotel. Neither was in service. I wrote a letter to the hotel requesting that my deposit of $94.20 be refunded, and that they NOT charge me for the remaining booking amount. Crickets. I submitted a claim with my credit card company and they reimbursed the deposit amount on 4/26. I continued to track my account and observed that The Kern Lodge charged my credit card the remaining amount of $222.60 on June 7, 2023, even though I cancelled (or attempted to cancel) my reservation on April 12. I had to send all my documentation to my credit card company (emails, letter, call logs) and got the remaining $222.60 refunded. LONG STORY short. A LOT of the reviews in the last year indicate that The Kern Lodge gas really gone downhill, and that no one is minding the store. No one at the front desk, no way to reach the hotel, and paid guests are left stranded. There does not appear to be any accountability. If you own this business, you need to get involved and get a new staff. AND KEEP TRACK OF YOUR CREDIT CARD CHARGES!! read more

This place truly cares about people. Made reservations on line before I showed up late, after driving for 7 hours and they could not find my reservation. A mother and son helped me and were the nicest people I have encountered in a long time. They walked me to my room and made sure it was all set up and ready. I asked how I could repay them and they just asked to leave a tip for their housekeeper. If coming through this area it is truly the place i would stay. Stayed at the Kern Lodge in May 2022 for a white water rafting trip. The experience was not good! The price was great for a 2-room, 3 bed configuration, but that is all that is good about this motel. The hotel and rooms are very outdated. The staff were all friendly, when you could find them. Here are some of the negatives; *Staff was never in the office, you had to call a posted cell phone number if you needed assistances. *No ice bucket in the room, nor did they have any to give me. Other rooms had ice buckets, but not ours. *No ice in the machine. Had to go the market across the street to BUY ice. *No WIFI. When I called the lady said "to be honest, it never works." * Extra charge/fee signs everywhere you look. Early check in fee, Late check out fee, thermostat setting fee, and taking towels to the pool fee (see photos). I was actually scare to do anything in fear of acquiring another charge. *At check out, not one at the desk. Hours at the desk is from 9am-9pm, which is funny because the office was always closed when I visited. The motel is close to a brewing grill, a pizza restaurant, and a market. I doubt If I would stay here again, when I return for another rafting trip, I'll tryout one of the other motels. Who knows they place may be the best of the best?!? read more

I stayed here as I needed to be at a rafting trip around the corner from the hotel the next morning at 8am. I didn't want get up at 430am and drive 3 hours the morning of. I arrived around 5pm and nobody was working at the front desk (office was locked). After multiple calls, a lady finally picked up and open the office. She said she was busy fixing something in one of the rooms. She seemed nice enough but it looks like she was the only person working here. Check-in was pretty straight forward. I didn't have any high expectations of the room given the pictures online but somehow it seemed older and worse than I imagined. Nothing works (wifi, ice machine, cable). Nobody answered the front desk when I called around 830pm to ask why the wifi password wasn't working. It looked like the only channels the worked was QVC. There is a fine for everything (Keeping your AC too low, using your white towels in the pool, late check out fee per hour, etc) I'm never coming back. This is literally the worse hotel I've stayed in over 20 years. read more

I feel let down by Yelp for the first time in a long time. While I was doing my research before visiting this town, I had seen reviews that raved about this place. Now I'm thinking these people were either blind or just stayed in a secret room we didn't see. By the Kern Lodge? We feel duped, violated and regretful. Not to mention in pain from some kind of bug bite that happened over night, while staying here. We stayed in the pool most of the time we were in the actual property, we figured with the chlorine we were "safe". The staff here was Much nicer/pleasant to deal with over the phone. They were very helpful then, but in person it was a whole different story. The night shift had a party going on in whatever window covered room is next to the office and let's say all her guests had been partying hard for some time now. Being here with kids, it seemed very unsafe and just plain dirty. Spiderwebs everywhere, missing and broken items throughout. Oh, you want A/C on a warm summer night? Too bad, it'll only blow warm air at night.. I guess they thought the water the unit was dripping should've kept us cool. Too bad it was all over the tiled floor, although thinking back now perhaps that would've been a cleaner option than their beds. I think my dogs are even traumatized. Our party spoke to the owner the very first day we were there and she had agreed to give some type of compensation. Once the new shift came on, we were left a voicemail which was very hard to understand, probably due to the impairment the front desk person was experiencing from that partying I mentioned above.. when we inquired about the compensation, they let us know we would've been refunded if we Vacated the property. Pffft, they didn't think we tried??? Everything around was booked for the weekend and getting another room last minute was not possible. What a joke. It's unfortunate that we had such an Awful first time experience in this little town. By far the worst hotel-motel-travel experience we've had to date and hope to be the last of this type. read more

Booked my reservation and the next day tried to call and cancel due to change of plans. Phone number on their website was out of service so I emailed to cancel with no reply from them. They charged me my deposit so I continued to email once a week for 4 weeks straight to cancel my reservation (reservation was made 2 months in advance) still Nothing from them. I hoped even though they weren't replying to my emails and I couldn't get a hold of them by phone that they had still cancelled my reservation as I had asked of them in multiple emails. NOPE today I was charged for the room I did not check into last week and had cancelled over 6 weeks ago (there website did say cancellations were allowed within 7 days of stay.) I really enjoyed the decor including the wood floor, paneling, accents, etc. The bed and mattress were really comfortable. My room has a kitchenette which came in handy for morning coffee. I loved the Seaside room (room 116) because it was suite, equipped with two beds, a TV, full-size mirror, air conditioner, and kitchen. The kitchen was an electric stove top and had all of the cooking tools and kitchen utensils. There was also a coffee maker and complimentary coffee. Room 116 is cool because it's at one end, so you only have neighbors on one side. Overall it was a great experience. The rustic feel of the room was a total plus. The staff was super chill. The facility amenities include a BBQ/picnic area, life size chess and checkers (actually next to room 116), a game room, and a pool. I also loved that it's a few steps away from Kern Brewing Co. read more

We are currently staying in a spacious duplex, room 302. The kids love it and it's cute and rustic. However, there are SO MANY PROBLEMS with the accommodations that I would never stay here or recommend it to anyone. First, my reservations were cancelled without notifying me. They were able to fix that situation, BUT the room does not have HOT WATER. We were given a discount and told we could shower in another room and hopefully it would be fixed the next day. Ok. We were game to stay. When we got into the room, we noticed right away that it was not clean. We wiped every surface and washed all of the dishes. There are mouse droppings under the sink. The patio furniture was filthy and there is a lot of dog poop in the garden. The Wi-Fi does not work in this apartment and there is no phone. Both the shower and bath drip making very annoying sounds. Today the housekeeping did not come. We called twice and stopped by the office twice to ask for: soap, TP, and towels. No one ever came to the room to take care of the situation. At my last stop at the office at 8pm, the woman who answered the phone told me the lodge HAS NO SOAP! Apparently they are waiting on a delivery if the liquid soap for the dispensers. I asked for a bar of soap and she said I could go to the store to buy one! I was quite irritated at this point and told her she needed to provide soap. SHE HUNG UP ON ME! This place is utterly ridiculous. Come at your own risk! Updated to add that our room finally was serviced mid day on our last/3rd day there, but the staff never returned any of my calls. Also, there was road construction across the street from my window starting at 7am that I was never notified about. After going to the office one last time to try and get a replacement for the coffee machine on our last night. I was finally able to talk to one of the workers and explain our frustrations with the lodge management. She came back later with flowers, some champagne and a cake. That was nice, but doesn't change my opinion of this lodge. read more

When I called, it's such an impersonal experience with someone answering who sounds like they might be from out of the country and he has to first ask for what location is because they have a bunch of hotels all over the country. The is a great place to stay. The units are large and they have everything you need. Its family friendly. It's close to everything location is prefect. Your about 30 mins from the Sequoias "Trail of 100 Giants" and track for ATV. Wish they would invest in getting a heater for the pool. Our unit could use carpet and more lighting in the living rooms to give it more of a cozy feeling. Only issue I had was the floors didn't feel clean. I had to ask for a broom to sweep myself. read more

No hot water, the pool was closed, the fridge was full of old food, hair and dirty wet towels in the bathroom, trash in trash cans , dirty sheets with a wet spot, we got there did not unpack they gave us clean sheets to change the bed, we went to eat then came back sat on the porch a bit since we where sleepy from kayaking all day and then left because we where scared it could have bacteria or bed bugs. The Lady with long brown hair said she had just got out of the hospital and that's why it was a mess. She said I would not be charged because of all that. This Review is long overdue as my Fiancé and I lodged with The Kern Lodge back in early August! We were so impressed with Michelle, the manager, accommodating us last minute when all other bookings in the area were filled! We fell in love with Kernville and decided to stay one more night to enjoy the town on our way down from a camping trip for 5 days. She allowed us to dip in the pool while she was finding out if a room was available. She was our last hope for lodging and by some miracle, got us into a beautiful and quaint room. It was also AMAZING to sleep in a bed after a week of camping, so it felt quite luxurious and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We went out for some drinks to enjoy the romantic and magical setting of the town for our three year anniversary and 4th of July engagement. The topping on the cake for us, was when she allowed for a late check out since we got into the room close to 12am- which allotted us time to get breakfast, enjoy a nice shower, and take our time packing our stuff up so we could be on our way! I can't express enough how much I enjoyed the room and wooden decor! We wish we could have stayed another day to enjoy that alone. I believe Melissa is the correct name, but she was also great to us, and such a hard worker for the company. We caught her deep cleaning and scrubbing the floors of the other rooms on the way out, truly working up a sweat to keep the place up to their standards. My fiancé was so impressed with the profound level of customer service and accommodation from these two that he floated around tips for the service team! We can't express our gratitude enough and really enjoyed our conversations with Michelle and Melissa as well! Kindness goes a long way, as does heartfelt customer service! We rented a room thru Expedia. We got there at 5pm with an empty office. We sat around for 30 minutes waiting. Tried a bell at the desk and no one came. There was a sign outside that said 'Be Back, Michelle, 760614-0934), except that phone # was no good. Decided to go grab a bite to eat. Came back around 6:30pm with the same empty office. Left and drove home a little after 7pm. Expedia only provided a # in case of emergency...and that # did not work either. Expedia says the business will not refund anything and we are just screwed! Wait what??? crazy huh, I have pictures documenting the empty office and all of my phone calls attempted to get a hold of somebody, so we could get keys to our room we paid for and that is now not being refunded. I've been staying at the Kern Lodge since 2013. Probably more than 15 stays total. Last weekend was the last time I will ever visit this establishment. First off, "new management" has raised rates by 30% across the board. I figured I'd continue to support this business during difficult times and went ahead and booked my room online. I agreed to the price, paid with my card, and made the drive. Checked in on a Friday night and was given my room keys and a written invoice. I was really surprised to see an extra $20, tacked on as a "resort fee". LOL. Like this is the Marriott? Was too tired to argue with the inattentive teenager at the desk and raised it the following day. I was greeted by Cory at the front desk, who, upon hearing that I had a concern, promptly told me she could not help me, and that I'd need to speak with the manager who was conveniently unavailable. The door then shut in my face. Cory later came knocking on my door to state that the owner would contact me the next day with an answer. Of course that never happened. So despite that I visit the area about twice a month, I will NEVER patronize the Kern Lodge again until it is once again sold. I hope when the new owners read this they will not only realize that their pricing scheme is unethical, it is also illegal. Moreover, mistreating customers usually backfires. read more
