BedBugs!!! Cleanliness is a must! Went up for a football weekend in lake Isabella and our room was dirty upon arrival. The floors were sticky and not wiped down on night stand. Out of 4 other family's staying in same hotel similar issues. Room 115 was our room went to bed and woke up with bed bugs.. Iivid and freaking out the hotel manager was missing in action til 5 am so we talked showed him pictures he got me bags for everything in my room. Got additional bags for suitcases and bigger stuff from store up the road. Owner made it right with full refund but still disgusting and not up to health and cleanliness standards. I rated 1 because you had to. Overall would have been okay if this hadn't happened to my kids and I.

This is our 4th time staying here and we love how close it is to the brewery...literally next door! The staff is always friendly and accommodating, especially Michele on this last visit.

Stayed at the Kern Lodge in May 2022 for a white water rafting trip. The experience was not good! The price was great for a 2-room, 3 bed configuration, but that is all that is good about this motel. The hotel and rooms are very outdated. The staff were all friendly, when you could find them. Here are some of the negatives; *Staff was never in the office, you had to call a posted cell phone number if you needed assistances. *No ice bucket in the room, nor did they have any to give me. Other rooms had ice buckets, but not ours. *No ice in the machine. Had to go the market across the street to BUY ice. *No WIFI. When I called the lady said "to be honest, it never works." * Extra charge/fee signs everywhere you look. Early check in fee, Late check out fee, thermostat setting fee, and taking towels to the pool fee (see photos). I was actually scare to do anything in fear of acquiring another charge. *At check out, not one at the desk. Hours at the desk is from 9am-9pm, which is funny because the office was always closed when I visited. The motel is close to a brewing grill, a pizza restaurant, and a market. I doubt If I would stay here again, when I return for another rafting trip, I'll tryout one of the other motels. Who knows they place may be the best of the best?!?

Most of the channels don't work

I stayed here as I needed to be at a rafting trip around the corner from the hotel the next morning at 8am. I didn't want get up at 430am and drive 3 hours the morning of. I arrived around 5pm and nobody was working at the front desk (office was locked). After multiple calls, a lady finally picked up and open the office. She said she was busy fixing something in one of the rooms. She seemed nice enough but it looks like she was the only person working here. Check-in was pretty straight forward. I didn't have any high expectations of the room given the pictures online but somehow it seemed older and worse than I imagined. Nothing works (wifi, ice machine, cable). Nobody answered the front desk when I called around 830pm to ask why the wifi password wasn't working. It looked like the only channels the worked was QVC. There is a fine for everything (Keeping your AC too low, using your white towels in the pool, late check out fee per hour, etc) I'm never coming back. This is literally the worse hotel I've stayed in over 20 years.

The cutest lodge in the cutest little town! It was right next to a brewery and close by everything else. Stayed here for one night and there were 4 of us. Would stay here again.

Oh look, more webs!

I feel let down by Yelp for the first time in a long time. While I was doing my research before visiting this town, I had seen reviews that raved about this place. Now I'm thinking these people were either blind or just stayed in a secret room we didn't see. By the Kern Lodge? We feel duped, violated and regretful. Not to mention in pain from some kind of bug bite that happened over night, while staying here. We stayed in the pool most of the time we were in the actual property, we figured with the chlorine we were "safe". The staff here was Much nicer/pleasant to deal with over the phone. They were very helpful then, but in person it was a whole different story. The night shift had a party going on in whatever window covered room is next to the office and let's say all her guests had been partying hard for some time now. Being here with kids, it seemed very unsafe and just plain dirty. Spiderwebs everywhere, missing and broken items throughout. Oh, you want A/C on a warm summer night? Too bad, it'll only blow warm air at night.. I guess they thought the water the unit was dripping should've kept us cool. Too bad it was all over the tiled floor, although thinking back now perhaps that would've been a cleaner option than their beds. I think my dogs are even traumatized. Our party spoke to the owner the very first day we were there and she had agreed to give some type of compensation. Once the new shift came on, we were left a voicemail which was very hard to understand, probably due to the impairment the front desk person was experiencing from that partying I mentioned above.. when we inquired about the compensation, they let us know we would've been refunded if we Vacated the property. Pffft, they didn't think we tried??? Everything around was booked for the weekend and getting another room last minute was not possible. What a joke. It's unfortunate that we had such an Awful first time experience in this little town. By far the worst hotel-motel-travel experience we've had to date and hope to be the last of this type.

I love this photo. God bless!

There were a little sachets of shampoo, lined up, neatly. We arrived around 7 PM and didn't see an employee even though the office was open. And a sign was on the door saying the employee is on the property if missing. Yet an envelope was sticking to the door with a singular key and my name on it. This isn't welcoming and it's not a good image particularly since 7 PM is not late. I actually never interacted with the office manager as far as I'm aware because the individual was similarly absent when I checked out in the morning. I find it very interesting that if you look at the signage in one of the photos below that they're expected check-in time is 3 PM and no sooner yet you won't see an employee there at 7 PM. Does this mean the employee only works four hours per day? Here is what you should know: there is a very bizarre, almost compulsive attention to detail that makes me feel uneasy. In multiple places around the property, one of them in the room, threatening you with all the charges you will get if you 'act out'. The is also a grotesque professional sign on the gate of the pool discussing diarrhea, which made me not want to use it. This is truly excessive. Overall, very average place with an average rate.

As with Riverview Lodge. Then she snooped around Expedia and found some availability. Woo hoo! We've stayed in Kernville a few times already, and with the proximity to Frandy Campgrounds and places to eat and the grocery store, super duper close. We arrived the day before festivities began (Thursday) and got situated. It's a first come, first served parking situation. And if you got the rooms closer to the river, you can utilize the paved driveway and head on down. She booked a double queen room. Our bed was so comfy, it was easy to fall asleep. The AC blows so much cold air (don't mind the noise from it). But, since we picked the bed closest to the AC unit, I think hubby unplugged it the second night & we propped the window next to us for a fresh breeze. Since my friend checked us in, she told us coffee's available in the morning. I don't recall her telling me what times coffee is served. So, on the second day- I lazily walked into the coffee area at 6am and was disappointed there was nothing. Then, I walked into at 6:30am and the coffee pots with a variety of flavored creamers were available. When I went back for coffee around 10am- everything was put away. Womp womp womp. *Some friendly advice- perhaps staff can post a note in the coffee room what time coffee hours are. That way it gives customers a chance to plan ahead. It's a no frills property. You get a TV with cable (we watched MTV the entire time). Strong water pressure in the bathroom sink and shower. Toiletries you'd expect from Motel 6. So, if you're dead set on something specific, bring your own. There was a fake flower vase set on one of the tables in the room and a fake flower arrangement in the bathroom. Both have a thick blanket of dust on them, that if you knocked into it or slightly touched it- thick dust bunnies just cascade. At this point, just throw away the fake flowers. It would suck if a customer has allergies. I'm sure something can be found at the dollar store in Lake Isabella. Good sized mini fridge and microwave available. And the chairs placed outside your front door, are a great way to just chill in the shade and inhale that fresh air. Along the river, Riverview Lodge has an area with fire pits and logs you can burn. I saw corn hole boards propped up behind one of the cabins closest to the water.

It is rustic, old-fashioned, and outdated, in need of updating. Locks are turnkey. Extremely clean, but very basic. It was odd to have a refrigerator, microwave, dishes, and cups, but no silverware/cutlery. No coffee muffin, etc. We arrived around 6 PM and nobody was in the office, but our key was stuck with Scotch tape to the door with our name. Only got to enjoy the swimming pool for about 20 minutes, unfortunately, because it closes early as soon as the outside lights come on. There is a bizarre attention to detail-- almost OCD characteristic-- highly specific signs all over the place as posted below. Summary: for $250 a night it's reasonable. But nothing special. I would've liked to have interacted with an employee and I really think the sign on the pool is grotesque and should be removed.
