We originally were looking for another restaurant in the Packing Company area, however, it was closed. We looked around, looked on our YELP app and we decided on The Kroft. Needless to say, we just should have left and come back the next day for the original place we wanted to try. We had three different sandwiches. The Kroft Chicken, Short Rib Melt and another Kroft Chicken sandwich with added grilled onions. The chicken sandwiches had a strange taste do the slaw added. It just gave it a strange and dull taste and a bit on the dry side. I had to add hot sauce to the sandwich, which I have never done at all. The Short Rib Melt was just 'eh' with no finesse, just a hacked sandwich. The garlic truffle fries were ok. Garlic but really no truffle to speak of. One serving can serve two people by the way. There is no service. The person taking your order looks disinterested in all and has no clue on how to recommend or speak about their food which they should be proud to speak of. Very laissez-faire attitude amongst everyone. Very disappointing and see no reason to ever come back to this establishment. read more

After taking a stroll through the packing district I settled on eating here at the Kroft. The baked potatoes looked delicious and it seemed like a good choice with a little healthier option. The potato was gigantic. The topping presentation was inviting. However, the topping was very scant in quantity compared to the size of the baked potato. I ordered the chicken tikka. The spicy flavor was very good. The baked potato was overcooked and mushy. Since I finished the chicken tikka fairly quickly and had a lot of potato left I asked the cashier for some butter. Of course, butter goes with baked potato. The only butter they have is some type of liquid butter no flavor whatsoever. I recommend it save your money and try something else on the menu. read more

I was looking for a Porchetta sandwich and this came highly recommended. The Kroft is located in the Packing District in Anaheim on the lower level (northeast side of the facility). The pork sandwich is served with cracklin' mixed in. It's portioned on a chibatta sandwich roll with a pesto base, grilled onions and wild lettuce. The combinations are pretty good. The cracklin' was not as crispy as I would have imagined, but it still added to the total flavor of the sandwich. Clocking in at about $10 for the sandwich, it was a good size (about 8"). It won't completely fill you up, but it is enough to curb any appetite. I would consider getting this again. However, there are so many establishments in the Packing District, I am also eager to try other venues. It's worth giving it a try if you like (or need) a pork sandwich. read more

The Kroft is about comfort food, and they sure did deliver. Prime Ribeye Dip(12) Its fool proof- Toasted bread packed with delicious ribeye with lightly spread mayo....and that's not all, you also get a cup of au jus to dip it in. Au jus was so good I drank the damn thing after I finished the sandwich. Kroft Chicken Sandwich(8.5) Huge fried chicken breast nestled with jalapeno slaw all waiting for you in toasted bread. Chicken was seasoned with just the right amount of heat that I like and the Jalapeno slaw brings such harmony to the sandwich. Walking that sweet line of spiciness but not overly hot. Chicken Pot Fries Poutine(8) Thick fries smothered in Chicken Pot Pie minus the crust with Cheese Curd. Simply Genius, I cannot believe I have never had this before. Loved the texture and flavor of the Cheese Curd, and the dish went perfect with our sandwiches. Cucumber Mint Lemonade(3.5) As the cashier loaded my cup with ice I was about to tell him to ease up on the ice and get heavy with the lemonade, turns out the ice was necessary because the lemonade was pretty high in concentrate. Refreshing, sweet, sour, and smooth. After we finished our lemonade we added water and still had a nice hint of Cucumber Mint Lemonade, once again an ingenious idea- bottle that up Kroft and ship around the world. Service was great, and food came out pretty quick. I really enjoy the atmosphere- Young, exciting, and plenty of things to check out. Overall- I would give this place 6 starts if I could. read more

Out of all the places I've tried out during my visit to The Anaheim Packing District, I'd say The Kroft tops the list. Granted, I'm a bit biased with this being my first time having poutine... but it was a pretty solid order hands-down! We shared the short rib poutine, and I was savoring every bite. This combination of meat, cheese, and potatoes, albeit present in many dishes, was melded together in a curtain of gravy. For the price, I'd say it's worth it. Here piggy piggy piggy! Can you say porchetta? On a ciabatta , with Carmelized onions, arugula, and salsa verde? I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Flavor explosion, to be sure. As much as I want to give this place 5 stars, they gave us the wrong sandwich and forgot to put dip with our prime rib sandwich. The manager remedied the mix-up quickly and gave me the fried chicken sandwich we were missing from our order. As I ate the prime rib sandwich something was missing. Okay, when I got my $12 Prime Ribeye Dip, I thought they forgot the other half of the sandwich. It's as big as my hands!! It's just a regular sandwich to me, with good meat. The dip itself wasn't anything extraordinary as well. I also got the chicken pot fries.. this came in big portions; I would say enough to fill 2 people, and enough to be shared with 3-4 people. But don't get it. Nothing stood out. You know when you eat something and all the "flavors" just melt together to just create nothing. Kinda how when you mix a bunch of different colors together and you just get this weird grayish brown color? That's how I felt about this dish. Jump in line and when my wife and I get to the front we are confronted with the cashier who looks as if she would rather jump off a bridge than smile. If that wasn't enough while I was talking to my wife about what we were going to order she walked away to eat a snack of her own and only came over when we called that we were ready to order. I dined here to review the restaurant for my culinary course. Advertised as serving "unique comfort food" and "specializing in gourmet sandwiches and poutines," a Quebecan dish made with fries and topped with brown gravy, my date and I decided to order two of the most highly-rated dishes, the Porchetta (I had pronounced it incorrectly as por'shetta instead of por'ketta) Sandwich and Braised Short Rib Poutine with Fried Egg (and a Goose Island IPA for the mister). The Porchetta Sandwich had rock-solid bits and pieces of what looked like bacon. I could not get past the 3rd bite so I dissected my sandwich to troubleshoot what the pebbles and chunks were and had to request for a 2nd sandwich "without bacon." The waitress kindly corrected me that the solid pieces were called "The Crackling." Thinking it was the company's nickname for "crunchy pork skin," I did not question "The Crackling." Turns out that "crackling" is an actual term for crispy pork rind. My 2nd sandwich was unevenly over-salted and over-peppered so I was not satisfied with it either, but did not want to trouble the staff again. The Braised Short Rib Poutine was also disappointing. The egg and fries were delicious on their own, but the over-salted gravy covered the taste of the short rib and pretty much ruined the rest of the dish. (As my instructor had noted several times, sauces should compliment your dish, not overpower it.) There was far too much pepper on the egg as well. The only item actually finished was the Goose Island IPA which tasted "as expected." As we were about to leave, the cashier offered us a free to-go cup of lemonade. I tried my best people, I really did. I did what I could to be cynical and jaded and nasty. That's my bread and butter after all. But every once in a while you need to stand up and say "No more" and admit that a sandwich that you ate was delicious. Half of my biased towards wanting to give a low review here was the Packing District itself. It honestly feels like it was built with the sole intention of making me angry. I've mentioned it in a prior review, but essentially what the Anaheim Packing District is is a foodie food court. And considering the culture cropping up around SoCal, at times the building is packed wall-to-wall with so many try-hards and whimsical, steampunk-loving ukulele enthusiasts that it's amazing I can keep food down in here. Look, I'm not saying I am any better and I certainly have my own problems with what I consider cool, but some people need to take "be yourself" a little less seriously. Maybe it's a case of a few bad apples, I don't know. I'm sure most people would be nice individually. This has nothing to do with food so far. Anyway, The Kroft. I have been to The Kroft twice in my life, and it has justifiably shortened my life by a good year or so just on those two visits. My first visit was honestly underwhelming, but I could see the potential in the food and held off on writing my review. The second visit shot it over the top by the end of the meal, and I knew I couldn't hold off on the coveted 5 stars. There are a few things to note about my experiences with this ciabatta pig factory. First off, the second time we came there was a decent sized line. It looks worse than it is, and really we were ordering in less than 10 minutes, so some people reviewing this place need to stop whining. Second, also to the whiners about the food taking too long, I was watching at the window while they made the sandwiches. They were working as fast as could be reasonably expected, and while there was a bit of a wait for the food it wasn't soul-crushingly tedious. Seating isn't a horrible issue either, because while there are a very limited number of tables in the immediate area (got one no problem the first time; didn't the second) there are a good number of other seating options in and around the Packing District. On to the food (or for those of you who just skipped down to the food...hi): -Porchetta: I am not the most cultured person in the world...but I am almost certain this isn't pronounced "pork-chetta" as I heard a number of people call it. Anyway, this was not for me. The flavor was just a little bit too much of just spices in my mouth and while I'm sure I would enjoy the crispy pig skin on its own, when it's in a sandwich with not crispy components the texture shift just doesn't work for me. This was what we got the first time, and was why I was initially disappointed. -Fried Chicken Sandwich: Much better than the porchetta. There was maybe a bit too much of the jalapeno slaw, but the flavors all work well together and they give a generous portion of chicken on the sandwich. I will also note along with this that on all of the sandwiches I very much enjoyed the ciabatta. It wasn't too hard, had good flavor, and held the components together nicely. -Braised Short Rib Melt: Yeeesssss. Yeeeessssss. The clear winner, which amazingly even my fiancée agreed with (we don't always see eye-to-eye on what food is our favorite). The ribs meat was nice and tender and wasn't too sweet as you find elsewhere. That along with the melted jack cheese just came together into this perfect sandwich. -Poutine: I know poutine isn't some new food...but it's not super prevalent around these parts (am I a cowboy now?) so I don't have a lot of experience with it. It's basically fries that want you dead. Fries with gravy and mozzarella cheese curds. There is nothing healthy about it and that's what makes it so good. The fries both times were perfectly fried so that they remained at least partially crispy after being drenched in gravy. We tried both the regular poutine and the pot pie variety...which I didn't find a noticeable difference between the two but I wouldn't turn down either. Would like to try the Loco Moco take on it but someone (coughfianceecough) doesn't care for runny eggs on her food, and I don't know if I can handle this and a sandwich by myself (yes, I have to get both). I recommend. Not the best of ideas to eat here too much so close to my wedding but you don't live forever (especially not with places like this around). read more

The gravy was flavorful, and there were hefty pieces of friend chicken. It left me at a loss for words. There's a unique evolution happening to the food scene in Orange County and I personally believe it's doing more harm than helping the "Land of the Sun". I'm an OC native, born and raised. Before I moved to the Bay last June (2013), I was spoiled with spectacular food from every corner of the world. However, some new young restauranteurs in Orange County have taken "drunk food" to the next level. What they're doing to drunk food is very similar to what gastropubs have done to bar food. Taking something a drunk college kid would make after a night of partying and throwing in some kind of respectable cooking technique to make it more appealing. Enter The Kroft. A restaurant that has self proclaimed itself as a poutine specialist. If you don't know what poutines are, let me give you a little bit of background. It's pretty much french fries topped with gravy and cheese curds. Common throughout Canada, originated in Quebec, this Canadian fast food dish is usually very heavy, rich and greasy. The Kroft, although their attempt is valiant, falls flat. CHICKEN POT PIE POUTINES ~ 2 stars: Take an already greasy and rich concept and make it even more so. That's the approach of The Kroft. As though classic poutines didn't already have enough to stop your heart from beating, they throw on classic pot pie fillings and gravy which is almost guaranteed to give you cardiac arrest. On my first visit to the Anaheim Packing House, I knew I had to visit two places -- The Kroft (TK) and Popbar. I had seen so many photos of TK--and am an avid follower of their Instagram page--that I simply HAD to get my hands on their signature poutine. For those who don't know, poutine is a common Canadian dish that consists of French fries topped with a savory, light brown, gravy-like sauce and cheese curds. This snack/fast food dish is commonly found throughout the country, but it has recently gained more popularity in the U.S. I know that I've stumbled across menus that offer poutine as an appetizer or small bites/tapas selection. Prior to my Kroft experience, I had poutine once--from Santa Ana's 4th Street Market--but I knew that The Kroft specialized in this dish, so I was eager to try it. My friend and I went to the Packing House around noon on a Sunday, and it was definitely crowded with families. We made several rounds to check out the different vendors before going downstairs and standing in line at TK. It was around 12:30 p.m. by that time, and there were maybe two people in front of us, but we didn't have to wait long to get our food. However, by 1 or 1:30 p.m., the line for TK got really long ... glad we showed up when we did! The vendor also provides limited seating around the stand, but fortunately for us, we were able to snag a table. My friend and I decided to get two different poutine dishes so we could sample each other's. The poutine was AMAZING and exceeded my expectations ... I expected it to be delicious and savory, but not as flavorful and addictive as it was. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Anaheim. There are lots of different vendors to choose from when you visit the Packing House, but I would say this was one of the most popular spots, based on what I saw. When you order, you're given a buzzer and wait for your food (either take-out or at one of the tables). My buzzer seemed to go off as soon as I sat down, and the girl at the counter directed me to the right, where you can help yourself to utensils and condiments. They're super speedy at TK, but I guess they're used to the attention and crowds. Here's what we got: "Chicken Pot Fries": My friend opted for this poutine, which was a twist on the classic chicken pot pie. I absolutely chicken pot pie, so I told my friend that I would order this if she wasn't going to. This savory medley consists of rotisserie chicken, onions, peas and carrots and gravy. The rotisserie chicken was soft and tender--not hard to eat at all--and though I normally don't like peas and carrots (or onions), chicken pot pie is the exception to my rule, since it's one of my favorite comfort foods. I actually couldn't taste much of the onions, though, since there's a sufficient amount of creamy, light-colored gravy atop the fries. The poutine is a good portion. You can share it if you plan to order another entrée from a different vendor, but my friend and I intended for these poutines to be our lunch, so I downed my entire entrée. If you like classic chicken pot pie, you'll love this dish ... the flaky crust is just replaced by tons of thick, fresh, piping hot French fries underneath the layers of chicken, veggies and gravy. "Country": This is the poutine that I ordered and BOY was it a winner. I would order this box of artery-clogging goodness again in a heartbeat. This poutine featured some of my favorites -- fried chicken, bacon, country gravy and of course, those delicious cheese curds. It was heaven on earth as soon as I took my first bite. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection -- tender interior and nicely breaded exterior. The exterior was crispy and crunchy, but not overdone or hard. There were bacon bits throughout the entrée, and I especially enjoyed the chunks of cheese curds (they don't skimp on the cheese curds, which is great for a cheese lover like myself). I tend to not like gravy on most entrees, but there are exceptions to my "gravy rule" too ... and poutine is one of them. I prefer thick, savory gravy (no watery, runny gravy for me), and this poutine gravy was right on point. It reminded me of the gravy you may find with biscuits and gravy -- savory, creamy and addictive. The fries were sufficiently coated in the gravy (I wasn't left with a box of dry fries at the end of my meal), which I definitely appreciated. Best of all, the fries featured in the poutine dishes are thicker, spongy and soft ... I've always liked thicker fries (not as thick as steak fries, but not paper-thin) more than crunchy, shoestring fries, so this poutine was phenomenal on so many levels. It'll be hard to deviate from this poutine the next time I visit TK; it was such a great first-time dish that I can't wait to order again. read more

Pretty busy afternoon on a Tuesday at the Packing District, but there was little to no line when I got to The Kroft. I originally was going to get the country fried chicken poutine, but ended up getting the Katsu chicken curry (thanks to yelp!) It wasn't on the menu so I recommend asking it if they have it for the day. Verrrrry large portion enough for 2! It was delicious and they are not skimpy on toppings. I visited the packing district before but it was not until my recent visit that I stopped by the Kroft. I wish I came here sooner. The bf and I shared the short rib poutine with came with red onions and mushrooms ($9). I loved everything from the meat to the toppings and cheese. I thought the fries would get soggy from the gravy but I was wrong. The fries are still crispy which I love. This is a great snack to share. I'm tempted to try other items on the menu including the sandwiches. I will be back next time! read more

Bomb... Way bomb. We were sooo overwhelmed with all the options at the Anaheim Packing District and finally decided to go with some poutine! My fiance and I were very very pleased. I got the Country Fried Chicken and the Cheeseburger Fries. Definitely splurged on all the cals but were not the least bit disappointed! Everything was hot, fresh, fries were nice and crispy and kept their texture even when smothered in gravy. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Only lost a star because my dad got the prime rib dip and it was just meeehhh. Stick to the poutine and you won't be let down. read more

This place is actually pretty good! I got the chicken pot fries ($8). I was pretty good. They had more fries than strips of chicken though and a lot of gravy. I really liked this with sriracha sauce! Fortunately they had 3 different kinds of sauce to go with it! I also got the cucumber lemonade ($3.5). I usually don't like cucumber drinks but this one was delicious! The line was extremely long but after I ordered I got my food within 5 minutes. Great customer service! read more

My friend and I just got some appetizers from here. The cashier was very nice and fast, the line moved very quickly. I got their cheese curds with garlic mayo sauce and a soda, they don't have Coke, but they have Dr. Pepper which is the next best thing. You even get free refills if you come back with your cup, which is nice. My cheese curds didn't take too long, they came out hot. I really liked their cheese curds, they were like mozzarella sticks, but smaller and a tad bit saltier. They were stringy and stretchy as I pulled them apart. The garlic mayo sauce had a very strong garlic taste to it and it was thick so I just dipped a little bit and it was perfect. My friend also got a Dr. Pepper, but she got truffle fries. The truffle fries were ok, not as crispy as I would have liked, but they were good with ketchup. I signed up for their rewards thing here so I will probably come back, their appetizers are pretty good. read more

This is one of the many bright spots of the Anaheim Packing District. It was a little bit of a challenge to actually decide on one thing from the menu, since they ALL sounded delicious! After much debating I decided on the Country-Fried Chicken Poutine with a Cucumber Mint Lemonade. The Poutine was the best I've ever had. The fries were perfectly crispy so they didn't get soggy from the gravy. The gravy itself was so flavorful, and was the right consistency. The chicken was perfect, and they gave a generous portion of it. And there was even bacon on top of it all! The Cucumber Mint Lemonade was so refreshing, and had the right level of sweetness. I highly recommend this place! When I come back to Disneyland, I'll definitely make the short drive over here. I would say the only negatives are: the parking situation is a bit of a headache and when the place gets busy there's nowhere to sit. These are just little things that are no big deal. read more

Is Poutinerie a word? No? Ok, well I just made up a word called Poutinerie and it's basically a place where you can all kinds of Poutine. So let's just run with that word and make it a thing. Anyway, I loves me some Poutine so we stopped at The Kroft before heading out to a few breweries. I figured Poutine is an excellent way to coat your tummy before day drinking. Right?! I ordered the chicken pot pie one and it was pretty delicious. It was like someone dumped a chicken pot pie on top of french fries and made it delicious. Now don't go trying that at home with a Marie Callendar's pot pie and some Ore Ida fries. It won't be the same. Don't makeshift it. Just go to The Kroft. I mean, you'll pay a pretty penny but you owe it to yourself. The only downside is that it's in the Packing District and I'm just so over the Packing District. read more

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. The Good. Actually, amazing. The short rib sandwich. Wow. What a dish! The short ribs were perfectly braised, I think with a generous amount of red wine. Also perfectly seasoned. Served with perfectly pickled red onions to balance the savory beef. Perfect bread - just the right amount of blandness so as not to interfere with the beef. One of the best dishes of the year. Whoever invented this should be signed to a long term contract at double their present salary. The Bad. The chicken pot pie poutine was a great idea. I liked the fries and the chicken, sauce and vegetables were great. Unfortunately, the dish had garlic stank which made it really unpleasant to eat. I don;t think that garlic makes sense in chicken pot pie to begin with. If they replace the garlic with leek, this would be a much better dish. Maybe even great. The Ugly. The food delivery was slow. I mean the staff is slower than my kids. By a lot. The wait to get your order in is 45 minutes. There is one person taking orders and she is not the fastest. Being all chatty is not the best strategy when people are waiting for 45 minutes. She should also not be making drinks. There were 2 other women not looking too busy that should do that. Optimally, they need to open the second register. Then it takes 10-15 minutes to get your food. Generally, the staff seems to be wandering about and laughing. If there is an hour wait between the line and food delivery, this is not a laughing matter. The man making the porchetta sandwich should be videotaped and shown to every student of food preparation in the world. He is at the apogee of slowness. A model of inefficiency. First he cuts some slices of porchetta. Then he thinks a bit. The he slices them. Thinks some more. Then he makes another slice. Ponders the infinite universe. Then he cubes them. Then he minces some skin (slowly). Then he slowly and thoughtfully mixes everything together. Then he finds some bread and slices it. He artfully paints the sauce on the bread. Then beautifully mounds the porchetta. Then adds salt grain by grain and finally tops the sandwich, slices and wraps. There may have been more steps. I fell asleep on my feet several times watching this. It took at least 5 minutes to make 2 sandwiches. I posted a picture of this guy. If you see him - make sure to take in a movie after ordering your sandwich. Dude - you need to find a new career. Maybe as a watercolor painter. You are too slow to work in food service. I understand that good food takes time. But these are sandwiches. It should take 60 seconds to make 2 porchetta sandwiches. These guys need to go to a torta restaurant in Santa Ana, hire the 2 fastest guys and fire everyone else there. Better yet, report the old employees to the department of health so that they never work again in food service. This is costing the restaurant big bucks. I'm sure that lots of people skipped eating here because of the long line. They likely lost $1,000 of business because of its ridiculous inefficiency. The good news - at the end of the Good, The Bad and the Ugly. The "Bad" guy got shot. A valuable lesson can be learned from this. read more
