I have been renting at Pawleys Island for over 40 years and used to rent from Pawleys Island realty. They were great and highly recommend them. since switching to Lachicotte about 5 years ago, and they have been purchased by Christie's/Sotheby's , their customer service has been deplorable they don't answer inquiries they don't communicate, in short they are just terrible. read more

In Jan 2021 we contracted with them to rent a house on Pawleys Island in April. We needed a house large enough to accommodate our 13 family members while we were in town for our father's funeral. All of us are from out of state. We paid in full, signed contracts etc. months ahead. A few days before our arrival date, they cancelled our rental because the owners wanted to use it. They cancelled our rental DURING SPRING BREAK. There were no places available that could accommodate us all-no vrbos, houses, hotels or resorts. Everything that could house us was rented. One of their employees called around only to tell us the same thing we knew...everything was rented, sorry. They gave us our money back, sure. But we were still left with nowhere for us all to stay for the funeral in Pawleys. Look, we used to own vacation property there and I get legally, as an owner, you can choose to use your own property. But cancelling the reservation during high season, last minute when there are no viable alternatives open? That is low. Add in the fact that this was for our dad's funeral? That's horrible. We have been vacationing at Lichfield for over 10 years and this last trip was by far the worst. We stayed at the Dale House and it was disgusting and unsanitary- likely a major health hazard. There was black mold on the ceiling, all of the upholstery was stained and smelled like cat urine- we had to bring beach chairs inside to sit down. When we stripped the sheets, the mattress pad was covered in cat hair. It had not been cleaned well- the knobs in kitchen were covered in a greasy substance and the disposal didn't work. We called Lachicotte over 5 times to voice our concerns and never got a return call. At one point we came by the office and they sent someone over to look at the mold and do a cursory cleaning of the ceiling. After our stay we emailed the manager who didn't offer any apology or reparation. This house needs to be completely redone before allowing anyone to stay here. I would have never brought my children (or myself since I am currently pregnant) into this house had I know the condition it was in. We are very disappointed. read more

Beware of extra charges and being lied to on getting it resolved. Long story short: I was charged an extra $250 after paying for everything up front after we checked out. They couldn't figure out why I was charged for several days, then said it was taxes and fees they forgot to charge. When I sent a copy of my email confirmation and said that wasn't possible, I got a response of "Sorry there is nothing we can do." When I threatened to do a review on every social media platform and said I would just dispute the charge with my CC company, magically said they figured it out and would take care of it by the end of the day. One week later...still no refund and I had to dispute it and won my case. Would not recommend them and will not use them again. read more

Beware of the properties that are now owned by Litchfield but managed by the Lachicotte Company! Our family of 6 has stayed at Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort many times and we have always enjoyed it. This year however was a nightmare. We made our reservation through the Litchfield reservation line but we weren't told that the property was managed by the Lachicotte Co. I found this out when I got a follow up email; I then called Litchfield and was assured that they owned the beach house we would be staying in and nothing would be different - we would still have access to the pools and amenities on site. We drove 11 hours to get there and at check in we were told we would NOT have access to the pools or anything else in the resort. You can imagine how well this went over for 4 kids ages 9-16. It just went downhill from there ... we arrived at the beach house and while it was lovely, there were no towels or linens. We had to wait over a full day to get any since nobody made us aware of this ahead of time and we didn't realize there weren't any towels or linens until after the stores had closed. We were also told we would get a 30% "summer sale" discount that we never got. I literally made myself a huge pest and hounded Lachicotte daily trying to sort this out - I spoke with Kathy, Gina and eventually Debbie (the manager) and they didn't help me at all. As a matter of fact, not ONCE did they ever return one of my calls. I had to just keep calling every day and pestering them. In the end they refused to honor the discount that Litchfield promised because "Lachicotte doesn't offer those discounts" ... even though they're owned by Litchfield? I even called Litchfield and the manager there, Catherine, told me this was "a Lachicotte problem" so I got no help from them either. The 3rd and final straw was that we had no internet or cable and after speaking to spectrum, we discovered that the modem needed to be replaced. I called Debbie at Lachicotte who told me she would send someone down to wait for the cable guy; she never did so we spent an afternoon of our very expensive vacation waiting on the cable guy. When I called Debbie again she told me "they forgot" to send someone down. So anyone renting from Litchfield FIND OUT if your property is actually managed by Lachicotte. Do your homework and ask because let me tell you, they made a week long $$$ vacation miserable. read more
