Love love love! This has been one of my favorite spots to eat in all of NZ! Great service and the prawns were amazing!

Average bar food quality and service friendly but slow. Staff greeted us and said we could sit anywhere- yet we sat down and manager kid (not the older man) came and moved us due to a big party of 32 coming in. Needless to say that didnt happen. 90 mins later still empty. We had Bangers and mash - average and nothing special. Seasonal veggies took over the plate. Our second dish was their Ribeye. Very tough and chewy. Served w fries. Salads were late and served w dinner. Dressing was honey mustard - no options. Beer was cold and wine perfect so all in all a 3 but Alice Mays and Monson down the street were both better for dinner. For two our meal was 100$ and neither of us enjoyed our meal. Go to landing to sit outside and party or watch the All Blacks games.

Cajun Chicken Sandwich with Bacon and Brie

"Nightlilfe" seems to be centered around this restaurant in the quiet town of Franz Josef. We came here and ordered the spicy tomato soup, cajun chicken sandwich with brie and bacon, and a side of local seasonal vegetables (I was getting desperate for greens!). The food was solid and is a good place to have a drink and hangout after a day of hiking/visiting glaciers!

    Mexican potatoes

Great service. They were very busy, with tables filling within minutes. Yet did came out promptly with very polite and helpful service. Mexican potatoes were deliciously cheesy, and the side garden salad was fresh and huge with plenty of vegetables. The ribs were sweet and large, with crispy well fried potatoe wedges. Would return.

    Freaking fabulous Lamb Shanks

Absolutely lovely atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff. We stopped in for dinner after a long drive from Picton, so glad we did. I asked customers their favorite. Several recommended the lamb shanks, some said the ribs, others said steak. I ordered the lamb shanks FREAKING FANTABULOUS! the meat fell of the bone and just delis with great veggies :) My only suggestion is to ask for the sauce on the side. It was too much for me :)

Muscles. Best I've had here. Actually could be best muscles I've ever had. Get bread. You will love the sauce.

This was a good choice. Almost ate at hotel restaurant and that would've been a mistake. This was a good place. Nice outdoor seating. Excellent service. Food was very good. Definitely fresh and nicely prepared. Obviously an authentic New Zealand menu. The muscles were best I've had here. Actually could be best muscles I've ever had. Get bread. You will love the sauce. We had Gunard as the fish. It was grilled perfectly. Served over vegetables and mashed potato. The place Had a real local feel which very much surprised me given that Franz Josef is a tourist spot. Glad we found this place. Definitely recommended.

SHE who cashes my paycheck is having fun on her bucket list trip. Free wifi and great signal connection here.

We tried the bait fish omelette appetizer. It was amazing with the mayo sauce on it. Actually not so great without it. For our mains, we had the bangers and mash and the pork ribs. I would recommend the bangers and mash, but not the pork ribs. They were dried out, overly drenched in sauce on a bed of french fries. The french fries were fine, but not my favorite type and became soggy quickly with all the barbecue sauce. I definitely would not order the ribs again. For dessert we had the sticky pudding and it was excellent. A good variety of wine and beer choices. We recommend the Alice May export gold beer and the Villa Maria Pinot Noir.

The freshies from Altitude Brewing -- namely the annual Hazy IPA, "Cones of Gratitude", brewed with Riwaka from Eggers Hops (ICONIC kiwi hop butt logo) -- was ordered in earnest, its dank, passion fruity notes savored to max effort. Probably my favorite NZ-style IPA to be had. I much preferred the Altitude beers on tap to the Snakebite concoction, the cider being quite natural, slightly fermented, and a little too funky. In addition to beers, food is to be had with pretty much every Asian cuisine under the sun. We had some Tumeric Chicken Kebabs which were a little dry and room temp though the peanut sauce was a yummy and required pairing. Each night, they have a gourmet prix fixe menu offering 5 courses for $130 or you can order them individually a la carte. The food is quite good and I found it highly unexpected to find such gourmet food in such a rustic setting. My first course was a delicately deconstructed lobster dish. My second course, some type of grilled fish. There was a sorbet palate cleanser and then my main course of beef followed by an amazing flan type dish for dessert. You need only look at the pictures to see how delightful the food was. And know that they also have an extensive wine list with wines by the bottle or the glass.
