    Pumpkin cheesecake / waffle cone
    Heather L.

Passed this place on the way to my friends lake house and stopped on the way back home, was nice that they were open on Labor Day. Got pumpkin cheesecake ice cream with sprinkles on a waffle cone. Ice cream was just okay, not really memorable - might give a more basic flavor a try if I were to find myself in the area again as the prices weren't bad. Staff was friendly and the rest of the place looked pretty cool, they also have milk, orange juice and other items for sale inside.

We passed by on our way to Ricketts Glen and made a quick stop to visit the store - always enjoy the country stores and this one was great! Browsed thru the foodstuffs and craft items...also picked up 2 walking sticks which became immensely useful an hour or 2 later :D. Girlfriend also picked up some fresh honey which was awesome! We didn't have a lot of time to walk the grounds as we were on a tight schedule, but we will definitely stop in again when we pass thru the area!

Came here for ice cream and to explore the greenhouse! Ice cream was very creamy, made right there with milk from their local cows. The small was $3 and was huge! The greenhouses were gorgeous and had to leave with one of their cute watering cans. I'll definitely come back while hiking in the area!

This is much more than a spot to grab an ice cream cone. Bring your kids and walk around to see the sheep, cows, alpaca and peacocks. They have a stream that runs near the main building with benches to sit and relax. You can admire the old greenhouses. They sell tons of local handmade products plus all of their fresh dairy. They sell milk in the old school glass jars. The ice cream is great too. It's a really beautiful and fun spot to visit.

The Lands at Hillside Farms is a non-profit. My brother and his wife get their milk and eggs here. After dinner, we drove here to get some milk. OK, we really went to get ice cream but the milk was a convenient reason to go, too. I ended up with a huge amount of ice cream because as I read the board, I was selecting a flavor that was a combination. Instead, it was two dips--one of each flavor--and since I ordered medium, I got two very large dips of ice cream in a cone. We went to the side room meant for eating ice cream when the weather doesn't permit outside eating. After, I enjoyed looking at some of the stuff for sale. I enjoyed looking because much of it I don't want nor need. This farm was owned by a friend of my parents years ago. I have a little trouble with the "non-profit" nature of it but since I no longer live in that area, I am not as informed on that as I might be. I'd go back for the ice cream but I wouldn't make a special trip. It's OK but I don't think it's end of the world, super good, gotta have.

Ask the Community - The Lands At Hillside Farms

How much is the entrance fee?

Hi, Marisa. We do not charge a fee to walk throughout the public areas of Hillside Farms. We are a non-profit educational dairy farm that sees itself as "community owned." You are welcome to visit and enjoy this gorgeous land, buildings, and farm…

One of you can leave and come back but if you all leave you cannot come back. Not bad really if you get about two hours or more play time out of it. There is a food area that sells snack type food if you didn't bring your own. Mandatory to take shoes off but not sure why if you do not engage with the equipment. I have a degenerative condition in my right foot so next time I'm not taking my shoes off. Also, you are basically forced into the bathroom without shoes on, which I feel is extremely unsanitary. I'd leave and come back if I had to because you'll never catch me in a public bathroom with just my socks on. Staff up front was alright, kind of nice, but brisk and to the point. Inside the staff basically ignore you and don't interact with any out of line kids. Parents come to let the kids blow off steam and kind of forget to keep them following any rules, so you need to pay attention to slightly younger kids to keep them from getting hurt. Overall not bad but not all that amazing either. Staff need to be more involved and the no shoe policy is a fail if you don't use the equipment.

Title: Terrible Customer Service & Inaccurate Hours I am…read morehighly disappointed with the lack of professionalism and misleading information from Bee's Backyard. Before visiting on a Wednesday, I did my due diligence: I checked the official website and listened to their automated phone system. Both explicitly stated they open at 11:00 AM.When we arrived at 11:00 AM, we were turned away and told they had a private event and wouldn't open until 12:30 PM. The staff member rudely told me I "should have checked Facebook," because Facebook had the correct hours. It is completely unreasonable to expect paying customers to bypass an official website and phone line to hunt for updates on social media. If your hours are conditional on private parties, your website and automated phone system must state that.Worse than the scheduling error was the staff's attitude. The girl working was snappy, defensive, and confrontational. When I mentioned that I had called their number, she accused me of lying and claimed she had "been here all morning and the phone didn't ring." Even after I literally showed her the call log on my screen, she refused to apologize. Instead, she doubled down with, "Well, I can't help it, those are our hours."When I asked for a manager, she claimed she was a manager, before giving me the name Paul (who is apparently on vacation for a couple of weeks). If she is indeed in a management role, her complete lack of customer service skills and combative attitude is a terrible reflection of this business. All it would have taken to resolve this was a simple: "I am so sorry for the confusion and the website error, we have a private event this morning." Instead, we were met with attitude and disrespect. We will not be returning to an environment that treats families this way.
