Hillside farms is such a cool experience. This was the highlight of my family's trip to Pennsylvania for a quick weekend turnaround. The ice cream spot stays busy - so if that doesn't tell you all you need to know, I'll say the ice cream is great! The apple spiced fall flavor was really delicious. My mom was a big fan of the milk - she bought 2 bottles. There was live music by the outdoor seating area, which was such a nice vibe to sit and enjoy ice cream with the family. We ended up going back the next day in the morning so we could see the animals, we walked around the barn and visited the cows, the goats, the alpacas. The kids loved it...we did too. Cute country store with everything from jam to dresses. The fresh milk and delicious ice cream is a huge draw! The lands go on seemingly forever; on the property you'll find picnic tables and adirondack chairs to rest between shopping, strolling the grounds, perusing the greenhouse, and oggling the farm animals. Lots of parking, but can be busy during peak summer times. I think it's a great place for families - seems like a fun place for kiddos to run around. Do them a favor, and leave your pets at home. I don't think it's great for the farm or the animals that live there to be exposed to house pets if they don't have to be. I drove by this place and had to stop in. The greenhouses, outside seating, and large beautiful building peaked my curiosity. This is a "milk store" when you can buy fresh milk or exchange bottles. There is also fresh cheese, dips, salsas, popcorn, and icecream! They even have party size icecream cakes with cookie decorations. On the other side of this store there is a great shop to find all sorts of goods. Clothing, home decor, antique signs, and tons of lotions, oils, and candles. Such a great spot for passing by to grab a snack or delicious homemade icecream! read more

I wanted some REAL ice cream so we took a ride 20 min there and 20 min back I was looking for butter pecan Well they didnt have it The lady said they only make it once in awhile So I figured i came all this way and I got Strawberry and my husband got chocolate (Now they have had the BEST ice cream in the area) SEVEN dollars for a half of a gallon of ice cream This strawberry is HORRIBLE There is absolutely NO TASTE to it Here I thought Hillside would still be the best Weis ice cream tastes better than this It doesnt even look like strawberry If you are going to charge that amount for ice cream then please make it with some sort of taste to it Wont be coming back any time soon for this expensive cheap tasting ice cream What a disappointment read more

Passed this place on the way to my friends lake house and stopped on the way back home, was nice that they were open on Labor Day. Got pumpkin cheesecake ice cream with sprinkles on a waffle cone. Ice cream was just okay, not really memorable - might give a more basic flavor a try if I were to find myself in the area again as the prices weren't bad. Staff was friendly and the rest of the place looked pretty cool, they also have milk, orange juice and other items for sale inside. read more

We passed by on our way to Ricketts Glen and made a quick stop to visit the store - always enjoy the country stores and this one was great! Browsed thru the foodstuffs and craft items...also picked up 2 walking sticks which became immensely useful an hour or 2 later :D. Girlfriend also picked up some fresh honey which was awesome! We didn't have a lot of time to walk the grounds as we were on a tight schedule, but we will definitely stop in again when we pass thru the area! read more

Wonderful store that showcases local products. We buy all of our milk and cream here in traditional glass bottles. The bottles get returned so it is a win for the environment. Their ice cream is top notch and highly recommended. We also love seeing their animals, particularly the mini donkeys who are kept right across the street from the store. Tbh the only stop in the wilkes barre area that didn't disappoint. Ice cream was had, ice cream was delicious ... even my 1yo son finished his not-so-kid-sized soft serve that was bigger than his face. Everyone comes here for the ice cream obviously, but sticks around to walk about, visiting the little garden store or watching the baby ducks waddle in the river or realizing cows are so much bigger than you remember. And exploring the little market full of fresh milk, cheeses, jellies, honeys, and all the usual goodies. I really like how this place doesn't try too hard to be touristy, or over complicate things. The last time I came here was over a decade ago, and it is even better than I had remembered it. The ice cream is still delicious. As a kid, I always ordered a soft serve chocolate and vanilla twist. This time my boyfriend and I tried the pistachio, and it's safe to say that I have a new favorite flavor. The store also has locally made products like soap, honey, jams and jellies, and more. I could have spent an hour going through all of the neat products they sell. If I lived in the area, I would definitely be a regular! read more

This is much more than a spot to grab an ice cream cone. Bring your kids and walk around to see the sheep, cows, alpaca and peacocks. They have a stream that runs near the main building with benches to sit and relax. You can admire the old greenhouses. They sell tons of local handmade products plus all of their fresh dairy. They sell milk in the old school glass jars. The ice cream is great too. It's a really beautiful and fun spot to visit. read more

We visited here as part of the eastern PA ice cream trail. Hate to say it, but this was one of our least favorite: kid had a chocolate ice cream, I had "chicken scratch" (vanilla plus jimmies/sprinkles). Neither was bad but the flavors just weren't memorable, and the flavor of the dairy didn't really come through. Neither of us finished our scoops. On the plus side: the landscaping and grounds were gorgeous, and Hillside had one of the nicest gift shops we've seen. read more

The Lands at Hillside Farms is a non-profit. My brother and his wife get their milk and eggs here. After dinner, we drove here to get some milk. OK, we really went to get ice cream but the milk was a convenient reason to go, too. I ended up with a huge amount of ice cream because as I read the board, I was selecting a flavor that was a combination. Instead, it was two dips--one of each flavor--and since I ordered medium, I got two very large dips of ice cream in a cone. We went to the side room meant for eating ice cream when the weather doesn't permit outside eating. After, I enjoyed looking at some of the stuff for sale. I enjoyed looking because much of it I don't want nor need. This farm was owned by a friend of my parents years ago. I have a little trouble with the "non-profit" nature of it but since I no longer live in that area, I am not as informed on that as I might be. I'd go back for the ice cream but I wouldn't make a special trip. It's OK but I don't think it's end of the world, super good, gotta have. read more

Noelle Mozloom in Mercantile is extremely rude and not a good person to deal with. We spoke to someone at Hillside months ago about having a small family birthday party for our child, and while they don't officially reserve a spot we were informed that it happens all of the time. While we were there, Noelle came over and interrupted our child opening his gifts to ask who we spoke to and let us know we are using too many tables (3 of the 7 that were there) for the visiting patrons (there were no more than small groups of 2-3 during our 2 hours there). Regardless, it was poor timing and bad form. Shame on her for having no awareness or customer service. I will take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Have been a fan of this place for a decade, but today they managed to screw up nearly every aspect of our order. I got vanilla instead of chocolate, my partner got mint instead of chocolate (were they just out of chocolate ice cream??) and neither of us got the whipped cream we asked for. I'm writing this review in the hopes that this very simple problem of not following directions will be worked out with the staff. We would love for this spot to become a favorite again. read more

Let me start out with the positive - the inside of this place is super adorable. They sell way more than just ice cream-- Bottled milk, bottled juice, soaps, lotions, local food items and more. But after a few visits, I'm just not a fan of their ice cream. On my most recent visit I had the black cherry hard ice cream and it didn't have much of a flavor at all. I expected this place to have local/homemade products, but it was mostly Stonewall Kitchen and things like that. Yes, very cute, but is it really a farm? How about farmstyle boutique? And they're all about their dairy. But I order a medium ice cream in a cone-- it was SO tiny. They also had smalls and kid sized servings; I would have guessed this serving was less than a baby-- it appeared to be about half a scoop! It was SO odd. I thought the girl misheard be, but then I paid for a medium? It pretty much fell right off of the stale cone because there was no ice cream in the cone! I ordered vanilla so I could make a fair judgement on the ice cream. It was horrible. Artificially over-sweetened and super waxy for some reason. read more

This is probably one of the best 'hard' ice cream places in NEPA, and one of the coolest places to visit in the back mountain. In addition to ice cream, they also sell milk and local artisan products. The setting is gorgeous and there are some seating areas around the property. It is a working/learning farm so keep that in mind as you explore. My favorite ice cream is they're cookies and cream , and the last time I went, my wife and I took a stroll through their gift shop which was quaint. I'd highly recommend check out Hillside if you want some good ice cream! read more

The Lands at Hillside Farms is such a neat place to take your family to. We went for ice cream and ended up spending half the day. The ice cream was very good. We shopped in the grocery area, walked around the grounds, took pictures and went down to the barns to see the animals. We walked through the greenhouse and shopped some more in the general store and wandered through the antique barns. We even walked around back to see the alpacas and goats. It's a great setting for pictures. I highly recommend a visit to anyone looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon! read more

I've been here so many times and it's always been a favorite. Now that I live in Maryland, I stop almost every time I'm up to get ice cream and chocolate milk to take back home. Today when I went I ordered a medium twist cone and the man came back with a tiny cone. I asked him if that was a small and he said no so I kind of joked that a small would have to stop right where the cone ends if what I had was a medium. My mom and I both noted that the ice cream also tasted very icy today (as oppose to usual where it's very creamy). It reminded me of the free ice cream you get on a cruise ship. I tried going on the website to contact them and let them know but could not find an email address or message system through the website. Hopefully today was just a fluke. read more

Ice cream was good. You can tell it's homemade it doesn't taste overly sweet. However, I still love UCONNs dairy farms ice cream. This a Is a cute place to get raw honey and other gift food items. There's a green house and antique store nearby. There is a small petting zoo with sheep, goat, hen, and alpacas. They are so cute. Cute place to bring kids. Hilliside farms is the best dairy store in Pennsylvania. Excellent ice cream, and refreshing milk. Once you taste milk out of glass bottle from Hillside, grocery store milk will never cut it again. The ice cream is the main attraction. The shakes are excellent, but the Sundaes are out of this world. Hillside has a wide variety of half gallons to take home, and they are a great value. If you live far away, Hillside has thermal bags available for free, that will easily keep your ice cream cold for a 3-4 hour car ride. Definitely a great place to take kids. After picking up your ice cream, you an walk across the street and visit the various livestock. read more

Going to Hillside is as much about the experience as it is the ice cream (which is why I usually end up here). While I am a bigger fan of the ice cream at some of the other places in NEPA, there's nothing like walking around to see the animals or take in a quieter view here than you can at somewhere like Curly Creme. My parents-in-law get all their milk from here, and when I came up with my sisters on a warm day, they suggested we go out there to pick up some milk and get ourselves some ice cream. This place is super cute, and you can walk right up to any animals that are near the fence. Don't feed them outside food! Their ice cream is delicious with great flavors. The helpings are quite large, for a good price. The medium is much to large for one person, unless you want to make a meal out of your ice cream. What a great place! Adorable ice cream shop and creamery. Where else can you find an actual farm that makes their own ice cream with their own fresh milk that is for sale? Fabulous ice cream, my daughter had a mocha coffee with toffee ice cream that was outrageous. Another in our group had banana that was delicious as well. Their soft twisted was another winner. 5 ice cream cups for $16 The portions were very generous. My phone was dead so I wasn't able to take pictures but the place is beautiful, you are encouraged to tour the store and then check out the farm. Chickens, horses, cows etc. Really pretty, the kids loved it. There is an antique shop on site that has some neat items but extremely overpriced. There is a homemade kettle corn stand there which sells some fabulous kettle corn, very good but I still prefer trader joes kettle corn . The shop has ice cream for sale in half gallons, fresh milk in glass bottles, fresh juices and teas as well. If you are in the area I highly recommend checking out the place on a nice day. read more

When you're used to drinking hormone-filled mystery milk from cartons and ice cream with ingredients you can't even pronounce, Hillside Farms is a blast from the past when it comes to how dairy is supposed to be. Milk in glass bottles, ice cream & shakes in more than 15 flavors with unlimited combinations - but the taste is so pure and refreshing, you'll wonder why you ever drank/ate anything else. The store sits in the middle of the farmland, so there's always that "cow" smell which can be somewhat unappealing - but hey, you're in nature. Staff is always friendly and you can get a small cone (but it's not that small) of ice cream for like $1.80. Seriously? This place is really fantastic, and a great place to bring kids - and adults - for some ice cream and to take a look at the farm, cows and atriums. They sell milk,of couse icecream,shakes,honey,breads and a bunch of other things.I got chocolate soft serve with cookie crumble. Chocolate soft serve- It was so creamy and you can defently taste the diffrence in fresh made icecream and icecream you get at somewhere like even dary queen.Its just something you have to taste to understand.Id defently come here again to get something else. They even sell honey with honey comb in it,the down side is that its 15 bucks wich is a little steep for honey.Over all though very nice place! read more
