What a blast of an evening! My friend bought out the whole Lariat to have her wedding reception here, and I absolutely loved both the space and the staff. The bartenders were obviously working but also so fun and engaging with all the guests. They were helpful navigating the extensive cocktail menu AND made AMAZING dirty martinis. Definitely take advantage of their full bar. The food was stellar! I can't remember exactly what the catering menu entailed, but it was plentiful, flavorful, and had a wide variety. Everyone was happy, and spirits were high. The Lariat staff was really on top of all the logistics from what I could see. When entering, we were greeted and seated fast! It's a nice place to chill out, play pool, have some drinks, and do dinner cause dinner was delicious!!! Service was great. Initially we were headed to Crave but they were so weird about where we could sit so we left and wandered in to Lariat. We were so happy with the food that we had at the Lariat!!!! The griddled cornbread and honey butter was FANTASTIC and the fish and chips was a super pleasant surprise! They advertise it as catfish... I hate channel cat (dark, muddy and fishy) so I didn't order it but my hubby did.... The catfish is Pangasius, also called Swai. They were huge fillets, white meat and not fishy at all. And the fries were crispy. It was super good! I had a Cobb that was yummy as well although I wish they had some type of vinaigrette. To top it off... the staff was super attentive and fun! We went here on a Thursday night with a group of 10 people and 1 infant. We called ahead and were told they had space/availability, yet upon our arrival all the staff was seemingly surprised and overwhelmed by us as we stood at the front for close to 10-minutes before even being approached, and then were asked us to wait out on the back patio while they cleared a table and their only waitress on caught up. Mind you, it was VERY windy and chilly out and after a couple minutes, we were invited back inside to wait. The table was cleaned pretty quickly but we were not sat for an additional like 10 minutes, and had to request a high chair 3 separate times before getting one. The staff seemed to continue to be annoyed with us until our food came out and then their demeanor and attitudes were much more pleasant. At my end of the table, the green chili cornbread, the green chili Mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, kids Mac, kids tenders, buffalo wings, and Nashville hot chicken sandwich were ordered. This is a hopping place! It seemed like the whole town showed up for the concert we were in town for! Really cool spot with lots of room. The only caveat was the bar. Keep in mind that this is a water station just left of the bar near the bathrooms- but it will take you some time to get a drink from the bar during a busy night. Came in here twice while on vacay. The bar is nice, the servers are friendly and the burgers are darn good. Here what I had: Specialty burger- It was a chefs special so it was one of their standard burgers but with different cheeses. The meat was seasoned perfect and it went down well with a Coors Light. Although the food was delicious, I wanted to turn around and walk out as fast as we walked in. We were visiting from Kansas City, so of course we had on our Chiefs gear for the football game we wanted to watch. As soon as we walked in the door, I saw a bartender/employee wearing a Denver Broncos jersey. I said "I think we can all be friends" and she very quickly said "you think wrong". I said "we could just go somewhere else" and she said "bye". My boyfriend didn't want to leave because it was close to kickoff time. THEN a male employee came over and said "I hope you don't mind but Josh Allen is on my fantasy team" then made several trips back to our table making comments about the Broncos and it became annoying. Trifecta!...Food, Service, & Ambiance! This is a gem of a place. The building, long bar, brick walls and our high top table with chairs that made us think of an old schoolroom. The hostess was a delight who relayed our compliments to the chef. Chef Alex came out personal to engage with us. His Rope Salad with cornbread croutons is genius!! Give it a try if you enjoy a little spice and a touch of sweetness in your life. Of course, I added fried chicken on top. Another one of the rare successes food-wise in BV! The food is scrumptious and comes out in a timely manner. The service is good but, because the restaurant is so loud (live music, other patrons, etc.), it's hard to communicate what you want. They have indoor and outdoor seating options, which is convenient. There are dart boards, pool tables, and a sizable bar. If you're a live music fan, this is your place. If not, ordering ahead and eating at home might be the move. Waitstaff is always friendly and eager to help. What deducts one star from my rating is the noise level and the stuffiness. When it's busy, it's nearly impossible to hear across the table, and you're stuck listening to the conversations of nearby tables. read more

What an unexpected awesome little spot in Buena Vista! I had no idea they were going to have live music which was an extra treat. Parking was easy, right nearby. The inside is definitely historical and there's a lot to look at. Service was really great too! I had a few Moscow mules which were tasty and the fish and chips which I would definitely have again. The Lariat is my go-to place for dinner whenever I"m in BV. They have a serious menu - and it's tough not to find something that you are hankering for on their menu. We all tried the nachos - which disappeared in 10 seconds flat. I had the burger - oh, I haven't had a burger in forever. But if you're going to do, do it here! They take it seriously. Added some blue cheese and bacon to that sucker - it was perfect. My mom who eats clean had the chicken without all of the toppings and rice and veggies. I always appreciate a restaurant that can do variations for their customers. They didn't have a hops-free dark cider which is a bummer... come on guys! Most of us who are ordering ciders are doing it because we can't have the hops that come in beer. And we don't want to drink that sickly sweet stuff either. The Rope burger was advertised as a short rib mix, but we couldn't tell. The burgers were on the small side and not cooked medium as ordered. The bacon onion marmalade was awesome. The chicken in the chicken sandwich sandwich was 75% breading. Good and crispy with sneaky heat, but one was want to find much chicken. So, 5-star starter, 3-star sandwiches and absolutely 5-star service. Professional, knowledgeable and attentive. The wait staff saved a mostly forgettable meal. First off the menu on the web site is not reflective to the menu in the restaurant. The hostess had a I don't care attitude. They had a party prep going on and made my disabled wife climb on a bar stool. Should have walked out then. My wife had the Mac n cheese as a dinner. No taste at all. I had the fish and chips. That was good. The Tatar sauce had way too much vinegar. Tatar sauce is 50/50 mayo and relish, that's it. Malt vinegar was at the table. So why all the vinegar in the sauce. They also charge a living wage fee for the kitchen staff. Why don't they just pay them properly? Overall not a good experience. read more

When staying at Mt. Princeton resort in June 2023, it was the Nuggets vs Heat fourth game, and there was no where to watch at the resort. Having driven by The Lariat a couple of times during our long weekend in BV I gave them a ring. They confirmed there were many TVs to view the game. The place was packed, but they made room for us; the hostess was super helpful in making this happen. The building itself was great with all the cool brick interior and the sound for the TVs was great. Very clean place - not a smelly hole in the wall whatsoever. The food was great, too. We'll be back. The Nuggets WON the NBA championships, and we remained at the venue to watch the post-game interviews. read more

This is the go-to place for brunch in Buena Vista. Only served Sunday, it is worth waiting for. I had the Chicken and Waffles, and the waffle was the real revelation, it was a real liege style waffle, that is sweet and chewy and just good all around. The chicken was perfectly fried and the potatoes were salty and crispy. There is also a bloody mary bar and bottomless mimosas. I'll be going back for the eggs benedict next week. read more
