I only began to experience the full delight of Cuban bakeries/cafes in college and was unaware of this gem for those sad earlier years. \\ cubano - this one's a classic - toasted/pressed just barely too hot to hold - i'm usually not a huge fan of those giant American pickles because of their texture, but these crisp thin-sliced pickles really define the sandwich - if the pickles define the sandwich, then the cheese really brings it all together - yum meat-bread-pickle ratio \\ cafe con leche - smooth cup of coffee + milk that no one had to pretend to like - made with espresso prepared the Cuban way--thicker and naturally sweeter (the menu explains it thoroughly) - rich aroma without any of the bitterness or acidity that i've learned to tolerate in other coffee (maybe i appreciate it but sometimes i'm not so sure) \\ guava + cream cheese pastry - so delicious. this pastry is also oh so classic, and the Latin Pig does it so well. - big enough to be shared... but i'd understand if you didn't feel like sharing. This year has been a crazy one for sure. I haven't been able to go to a restaurant inside since march. However I have been ordering food from everywhere to eat at home. Latin Pig in Plano is the perfect place for that. Obviously I may be biased because I love puerto rican food and they have a great selection of our main dishes there and they do a great job! My favorites there are: -Tostones con ajillo -arroz con gandules -pollo guisado -mofongo y carne frita -pastel de guayaba con queso -Café con leche -cubano sándwich This place is a tiny hole in a wall but its so worth it! I used to go with my friend to just have coffee and gauva pastries because they are delicious!! A must have. Also going there reminds me of home. It has that Caribbean latin flavor we have in the island. They have cuban food as well which is similar to Puerto Rican. The place doesn't have a lot of parking since its a small shopping area off custer but I've always managed to find one. I recommend calling first in case there's not a lot of tables available since it is small. Usually every time I've been there its been pretty full. We moved to Texas from Miami and have been on the hunt for a good Mofongo and this place is it. We had the Lechón con Mofongo, Carne Frita con Mofongo, chicharrones with tostones and the kids lechón plates with Gandules. Everything was fresh and so good. The Mongo was just right, not dry, generously stuffed with meat (of your choice), the tostones were extra crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the mojo garlic sauce and caldo were delicious. As I entered the restaurant, I immediately noticed that except for a small group of patrons at the front, the place was vacant. At lunchtime. This should have raised a flag. After sitting at a table for some time, no server to be found, I stood at the counter for several minutes before someone finally showed up, no greeting, just took my order for the Cubano. Went to this cute little restaurant today. It was so cozy and homey from inside with a rustic decor. There were very few people inside as it was after lunch time. So we got the complete attention. Our host was very helpful. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and my wife ordered pollo guisado. Both were fabulous. Especially the pollo guisado was fantastic. The chicken was simply falling apart with juices and the rice was delicious...the vegetables were soaked in the chicken juices and cooked perfectly. We are definitely coming for this again. Lastly the dessert was amazing..we wanted to order the guava dessert but it was sold out so our host recommended the tres leche. It was simply the best I ever had. So creamy and milky. Moving out here from a Mecca of different flavors, it's been hard to get an authentic flavor of different cultures. This place in Plano had some of the best, lite Cuban food in a good long time, since my last stop in Florida. The cubano was authentic, the pickles light and flavorful, fresh taste and nice crunchy bread, but soft in the middle. The tostones appetizer was fresh green banana with a hint of salt and the juice with a bit of garlic flavor. My wife had the ropa vieja, she loved her dish too. The rice with black beans topped off the shredded meat nicely. Try the pineapple soda too. The plantains were perfect. I have found my new go to Cuban restaurant in town. Oh and make sure you try the Flan...best I've had so far. Creamy and the burned sugar on top was just perfect. Definitely try them out! read more

Once again it was time for lunch, and being in Plano, a friend wanted to try this Cuban restaurant. Small little space. Creative decor made to look like aged concrete walls with monotone color pictures. Trendy vintage light bulbs above the tables, and a chandelier near the entrance above the largest seating area. It felt like I was in movie that portrayed Havana. I've never been there, so that's just my imagination taking over :D. The server was 1 of only 2 employees I noticed working. He welcomed us, as he did all the other customers that entered. He let us pick our seat, because it wasn't too busy, and then immediately asked what we would be drinking, and brought menus. I had read some other reviews about lunch specials, and was eager to try it out. I ended up ordering Lechon with Arroz Congri and a side of Maduros. My friend got the Bistec En Salsa. I could smell our food as he walked over with it. What a nice aroma it was. When I got my food, I was already impressed how it looked on the plate. This was the first time have a Cuban version of Lechon, as I've had a Filipino kind before. The pork was tender draped with sauteed onions, and not to salty or fatty. The Arroz Congri was a good match for this entree, and the Maduros was a nice treat to finish the meal. The decor was like a movie set, the service was great, and the food will keep me coming back. I'm not sure if it was only a two man show, but more credit to them if it was. PS: lunch special is the way to go if you have time. read more

It's a small restaurant on the east side of Plano. When you walk in, you feel like you're somewhere in Cuba. I've never been in Cuba though. The floor is all concrete, and there is no fancy decoration except for some nice pictures displayed on the walls, plus up-beat Cuban music. We got the typical pork dish. Since the restaurant is associated with pig, so I thought I was in the right direction. The meat was lean, mildly seasoned, tender, and very juicy. The onion slices on top were delicious because they were soaked with the flavor from the meat. The yellow rice (with pigeon peas) on the side was flavorful. I like the type of rice they use, most likely from Cuba. The grain is short and thick, different from oriental rice or Indian Basmati rice. I would say that the taste was somewhere between mild Chinese fried rice and spicy Cajun jambalaya. Overall, it was a good lunch. Definitely I'll come back and try again. There are just so many other delicious items (such as panini-like sandwiches, ropa vieja beef, desserts/coffee, etc.) to try. read more

My friend says "you gotta try this place, it's in Plano". I'm thinking maybe not since he's had a few misses. He catches me one day for lunch and take the offer to try The Latin Pig. We pull up and from the outside I can see it's not a big place. This is starting to get exciting. We walk in and I like the look and feel of the place. Rather than deal with my menu anxiety, I order the same. He suggests we split a fry, I reluctantly agreed since I love fries and hate to share.
