We checked into a fairly vacant Lazy Parrot 2 weeks ago. I was nice and quiet with just a few guests. In fact, we only saw 3 other couples the 2 days we were there! Not sure why as April is shouldering peak season in Puerto Rico. That said, it was nice to have peace and quiet while relaxing in the pool which we had to ourselves for 2 days! On the down side, there was little to no staff. The bar remained closed the entire time. MINUS ONE STAR We did enjoy the Thai restaurant one evening! The food was really delicious. We had the Pad Thai with shrimp, the spicy papaya salad and chicken curry. Highly recommend this place as a lot of locals were in. This was the one time we did see a lot of people. ADD A STAR The room was nice and had a nice enclosed outdoor patio where we could hang out and dry our clothes after a day at the beach. The beds were comfortable although VERY high! ADD ONE STAR The resort grounds were very well maintained and I enjoyed strolling around taking pictures of the property and all the pretty flowers! Definitely a pretty place. Loved the lookout area that also served at the Thai restaurant. ADD ONE STAR No other food was available for breakfast or lunch but they did have a nice coffee station with many choices of flavors syrups and creamers/milks and teas! ADD ONE STAR They also had a game room for the kids to enjoy. There were also many large iguanas roaming the property where our room was. It was fun sitting outside our door watching them climb the trees! Parking was on a very steep hill across from the Inn. Be careful to attend to your rolling suitcases as we almost had one roll down the hill! Haha Overall the Lazy Parrot was a nice place to stay. Just wish they had staffed the bar! As for breakfast and lunch there are 2 excellent places right next door! read more

This place was perfect what I was looking for in catching early December surfing. It was confortable enough for my girlfriend to feel relaxed but located in the hills to feel unplugged from the world. Our room was a Superior Poolside Balcony. The bed was comfortable, A/C is cool if you want or you can just open the doors for evening breezes to get a deep sleep before heading down 420 for a day riding waves. The continental breakfast is as you would find in your upper level business hotel & if you want a hot breakfast, Banana Dang (separate review) is an easy walk. In the evening you can have a wonderful dinner at Smilin Joes (separate review), or sit by the pool and enjoy the band at The Rum Shack. Lest you be worried about a crowd of drunks keeping you up at all hours the music ends just after 10 and the crowd clears out. The staff was friendly, helpful, linens & towels were soft but not luxurious. The Lazy Parrot is just an excellent value and worth returning every year. read more

When you dream of vacation, this is the place in those dreams. I loved everything about The Lazy Parrot. The hotel staff was incredibly kind and the bar tenders at the Rum Shack were the best. It's obvious the owner went out of her way to find the perfect staff. My boyfriend loves to surf, and the bartenders gave him great advice about where to go for the best waves and when. The Inn was comfortable, clean and relaxing with a fantastic location, beautiful views and wonderful people. I had a wonderful time, and I can't wait to go back some day. read more

Edit: The next morning the hotel reduced my rate and made every effort to make up for what you'll read below. My experience was a mixed bag. 75% of my dissatisfaction was due to the last minute booking...still a fault with the Inn but understandable, especially in an island setting, but at $120 a night I'd still expect someone to be present to check me in. Read on: So far pretty bad experience. I made a last minute booking around 7 and showed up 30 minutes later to find all office staff was gone. I later found out they go home at 5 and leave envelopes with keys for late arriving guests. They need to either mention when they sell the room or cut off sales for the day sometime before the staff leaves. A nice server have me a number to call Hector to come let me in my room. He arrived ten minutes later and asked me how I was paying. I explained I booked online. I don't think he understood. I paid $120 or so. The room he showed me and I think asked if I wanted (I don't think he understood that I made a reservation) was for $89. At least he let me record that rate on my sign in paperwork I filled out. I was credited back to the $89 rate the next day. There is no soap at all in the bathroom. In going to have to buy a bar next door at the bodega. Whoops, bodega is closed....I'm washing my hands in the hallway communal rest room. The shampoo is half full and clearly left from the last guest, complete with a black hair stuck inside the cap. The shell in the kitchen that was holding the used shampoo was otherwise empty. It is clearly meant to hold soap, shampoo, etc. Simple basic expected touches that are missed here. The room smells like mildew. I used the hallway bathroom to wash my hands since my room has no soap. Unfortunately the hallway bathroom had no hand towels. I only intermittently get a Wi Fi signal in the room and can't get it to connect. I found later a branch had fallen and knocked out the wifi. Aside from these gripes the pool and bar and restaurant areas are all beautiful. The vibe is wonderful and chill. Exactly what I wanted. It's just a little hard to look past being charged so much more than the walk in rate when I booked through Kayak then getting here and being less than thrilled about my room. read more

Stayed here with 2 college friends, great place!! Great place tucked in the hills, quiet and relaxing spot! Staff was incredibly helpful during the booking process. The Lazy Parrot Inn is located minutes from the best Surfing beaches of Puerto Rico which are extremely popular on the West Coast. It is also located along Route 413 which is known as the Route to Happiness and folks, it does not disappoint. What is more beautiful is that after a devastating 2017 Hurricane season, the City of Rincon and the West Coast has been on mass overtime ensuring that tourism is quickly recovered in welcoming travelers from all over the world. The Inn which thankfully suffered minimal damage was one of the first Inns to have both power and water. I also learned from my pleasant conversation with the hotel Operations Manager, that the hotel Owners worked tirelessly alongside with the community in recovery efforts and aid. The Owners and staff of this hotel are passionate about being here and ensuring that all guests feel welcomed and part of the family, this is what attracts me when it comes to Inns and also ensures the reason for why I will go back. I know that many people are somewhat still reluctant to come to Puerto Rico, but I am being truthful when I say that Rincon has not messed around when it comes to after hurricane recovery and if you decide to visit, it will be worth it. After feeling like a restless caged bird in the city of San Juan, stretching my wings to venture out of the cityscape felt liberating. Lush green vegetation on the mountains parallel to the road, provided millions of shades of green for this scenic drive. Images from my camera don't do justice to its beauty. Rincon, a pequeño town, provides the basics you could need: grocery store, clinic, bakery, shops, restaurants, and entertainment. I made a note to myself to venture back into town. Capricious curves carved an upward path toward the Lazy Parrot Inn (LPI) like a never-ending S, as I drove. I was so glad I made it there without getting lost, despite arriving at 9:00pm; the only light illuminating the path was the headlights from my rental car. Parking lot was weird for this plain-seeing Houstonian. I choose the closest parking space to the entrance, as the angle of the hill was rather steep, say 30-45 angle. My door shut itself, thank you gravity! A parrot laying comfortably in a hammock. A shark standing on its fins, offered a plate of food for the parrot, with the finest seeds this side of the hemisphere. Another sea creature fanning the resting foul. This humorous introduction to the parrot theme made me all the happier to found this charming inn. Just looking at the inn was a sign of a more authentic experience. Like the majority of houses in Puerto Rico; the hotel is made of cement, a structure that easily resists the hurricane threats and tropical storms for decades. Gulf Coast residents, take a lesson, from Caribbean dwellers. Just being at the inn, in this inn brought back memories of staying with relatives in Puerto Rico. My lips formed a smile but my muscles frowned as I lifted by 40lb suitcase up what seemed like a dozen long steps. Understanding my turbulent travel tale, the staff took me under their wing with a discount that fit my budget. It helps that it was slow season, when all the other "birds" have migrated north for the summer. A 2 dimensional parrot key chain told me my room no was 5. The cold air of the AC, already running, a refreshing welcome from the humidity. Inside were helpful guides and maps, which I read. It was a nice surprise to read about organic dining options. Attempts to communicate with the outside world are fruitless at times, with the dropped calls. I'm beyond roaming, I was bar-less. I don't mind it though; it's nice to just unwind in my room, anticipating adventures that come the following day. I woke up well-rested, eager to venture out into the town of Rincon. The early bird catches the worms. ;o) Lazy Parrot Inn made me wanna CLAP with glee. I have no complaints with Customer Service, Location, Amenities, Price, or Staff. I heart the local feel and the parrot theme. I'd definitely come back! The parrot keepers at the Lazy Parrot Inn are the friendliest flock of fellows you'll find. read more

We arrived later in the afternoon, and the staff had already departed for the day, but they left the keys outside the main office for us. It was pretty quiet as we were visiting during the slow season, but it was absolutely gorgeous. The hotel is nestled up in the hills and it is surrounded by a lush landscape (at least it was lush in October). As an added bonus, there's a really good pizzeria nestled in the hotel itself, right by the pool. We caught some football games here and it was an absolute blast. The one thing I would caution anyone from visiting is if you are handicapped. There are a lot of stairways to get to your rooms and I didn't see anything that was wheelchair accessible, so please be advised if you have a tough time walking. read more

Love this place. Staff was very hospitable. Check in was easy and the woman explained the area and was great at answering our questions. We were given a large parrot key to room 2 which is one of the smaller rooms but has everything you need: clean bedroom and bathroom, warm shower, a/c, cute little private sitting area outside, tv and very comfy king size bed. We stayed at 3 places during our trip to PR and this was our favorite accommodations. There are two great restaurants/ bars on site, nice pool, plenty of seating areas surrounded by wonderful landscaping that takes the stress away. I know some people complain about the steps but I think it adds to the ambiance. Just be careful when it rains because I found some of the front tiles to be slippery when wet. read more

The Rum Shack is awesome! Great food and service. Don't be deceived by the front entrance. Keep traveling down the stairs to get to the pool deck where the rum shack is located with a neat view of the valley. We are a tough family to bring out to eat and we all found stuff we loved. I am a vegetarian and my husband is gluten free. We got the vegetable quesadilla for our 1-yr old son and he loved it. I had "Best of the West" salad and it was one of the best salads I have had in a LONG time....and I am not a salad person normally. My husband got the grilled churrasco which he loved (and it was a very large portion). What a great dining experience! read more

This place provided an ideal respite from winter in Milwaukee. A lovely setting and unbelievable food, both in the restaurant and at the poolside bar. It was not your cookie cutter mega resort. No elevators. (I had to climb about 40 outside stairs from the pool deck to my top level balcony). No phones in the rooms. (Cell phones work great). I loved it - and I'll soon be celebrating my 79th birthday. Can't wait to go back. read more

This is the only place to stay in Rincon as far as I know. A very cute and quaint hotel with pool, hot tub, mini golf, and a great restaurant/ bar attached. It's a very short driving distance to all the surf breaks in Rincon. The restaurant (The Rum Shack) has delish food and some really nice locals that give you the inside scoop and are super friendly. After staying at a big resort in Boqueron we were relived to have this cozy spot to hang out and stay. Room #205 was great-- had a hammock and nice outdoor sitting area. read more

For vacations family and couples is perfect. We only spend two nights, the restaurant have a great tasty food and the service was very nice. The rooms and the general areas are very clean, which for me is very important. The bathrooms has a hot water, which is very important too. A convenience store is on the side, for any last minute item. Is in a very relaxing area, has beautiful beaches very close and place to enjoy the outstanding sunset. We were warned by a local that new management had taken over. Still, the six of us ducked out of a rain storm for dinner and drinks. This nightmare had everything but Freddy Krueger. Full house and one waitress for starters. Every five minutes she would return to announce another item wasn't available. Kamikaze mesquitos, one avilable beer, no ordered drinks served! Eventually an order of nasty fishy tacos, adequate mussels, and a limp salad appeared, but nothing else. Not even rice and beans were available...in Puerto Rico! After two hours of suffering, we splashed back in to the night to wash away the stench of a dead parrot! One star for having electric. read more

this review is for the lazy parrot restaurant. upon walking in, you get to look at both menus for the lazy parrot, and one for the rum shack. boyfriend and i decided to go with the lazy parrot as the menu looked slightly more appealing. started off with a salad and the grilled octopus appetizers. had a mint tea cocktail that was out of this world! the salad was nice, light, and refreshing. however the octopus was overcooked, but the flavors were there so it was a little dissapointing. for mains: my boyfriend had a pasta dished that he enjoyed and i had the skirt steak, with goat cheese fingerlings, and asparagus(subbed bc they were out of green beans- WOO for me! love my asparagus). i literally talked about this dish the whole vacation. at a perfect medium rare, the steak was SO SO flavorful, and nothing i love more than goat cheese and asparagus. the steak sauce that came on the steak also had a hint of sweetness that hit the spot. enjoyed the mochaccino creme brulee for desert that was amazing as well. overall i'd give it 5 stars but minus one for the octopus and the service was a little offputting. however i will most DEFINITELY be back. read more

The staff at the Lazy Parrot is kind and very accomodating. We had some travel difficulties, and the mother-daughter team who run the place were so very helpful. The inn itself is sweet, with a courtyard pool and nicely appointed rooms. A major highlight are the views of the surrounding valley and the tropical forest setting. Dining onsite is delicious, with a dinner restaurant that has a great shrimp mofongo and a poolside pizza bar. All in all, my husband and I are looking forward to returning to this lovely mountain oasis. read more

The atmosphere and ambiance at the Lazy Parrot is absolutely delicious. (Along with the food.) There are luscious plants and flowers everywhere and you immediately feel more relaxed just being there. I don't think it gets much better than sitting at one of their outside bars overlooking the pool and ocean while enjoying one of their delicious cocktails. Love all the fresh fish options and would love to make a trip out of it next time, rather than just popping in for dinner. read more

So, I am writing this review for The Rum Shack, not the Lazy Parrot. However...the Rum Shack and Lazy Parrot are in the same lot as each other, and are separately owned. Our whole lot of people, 9, got dinner here the other night. We were seated extremely fast...but the dining area wasn't too full. We had two waitresses, one a little more informative on what the specials were and such. She came and took our drink orders fast...and was back to get our food orders fast too! Their food is fantastic! I ordered the famous mission burrito with steak...a huge burrito but if you're starving it's great. We also ordered their seared ahi tuna...so great. Their fish tacos, beer battered mahi mahi are to die for as well. We went on a not so busy night, but they have two hot tubs, a pool, a bar, mini golf, and a drop down screen projector so I think that they have "special" nights. If you are in town it's a great place for some delicious food...I would recommend it! read more

I loved this place, it was the quiet retreat that I needed. The Wi-Fi did not work from my room, but I had such good cell phone service that I was ok with it. Plus the hotel is sooooo lovely, who wants to spend much time in the room. My room was clean, the inn was beautifully landscaped, there are plenty of places to relax and lounge, they have a bar, lots of seating, a pizzeria, a restaurant and a lovely pool. They had a huge projector over the pool, so I could watch the basketball game while I wad enjoying my dinner. Everyone member of the staff that helped me to include in the restaurants was super sweet and they all spoke English. If you want to enjoy a beautiful part of the island that is close to several beaches, then this is the place for you. I highly recommend, the only thing was that you have to run the hot water for a few minutes before it gets hot, but there are signs in English and Spanish. My room was clean and free of little critters. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Lazy is an accurate description. I arrived at 3:30 and there was no one there to check us in. The room we were given was literally in the hotel lobby, with a view of a wall. It was incredibly noisy because people were literally waiting for the restaurant outside my room. The only compliment I have is that the room was very clean. I did not have warm water though. Besides the room the grounds and pool are very beautiful. The bartenders at the pool were great and we had a very nice meal at the restaurant. read more

This place was really beautiful and recently renovated. The room had all the things you'd want in a room while traveling- a fridge, air conditioning, decent wifi (better on the balcony that in the room but ok), and hot water. The pool area is really nice, the cocktails are interesting and yummy, and the pizza at the restaurant is delicious. Elva was so helpful and welcoming. She even arranged for us to have two queen beds instead of a king and a futon (which was our reservation), which gave us a lot more room for our two kids who were with us. They even had fresh water with lime in the lobby and coffee in the morning. I would have given this place 5 stars, but we did not actually sleep very well for 2 out of the 3 nights because of other guests being incredibly loud until 2 or 3am every night. One of those nights was new years eve, and I realize that some partying is to be expected. However, we were told that the restaurant would be closing early that night and we expected our hotel to be a nice retreat from all the NYE noise in the town. Instead, all day and all night long, there was this huge party of people (a big family) that basically took over the pool and hot tub and then literally screamed and set off firecrackers all night. They did this for two nights in a row. The hot tub was inaccessible because every inch of it was occupied by members of this party, and they didn't seem to care at all that there were other guests. My sense is that his party was locals doing a staycation (they all had t-shirts on from a pizza place down the street). I realize my complaint is with rude guests rather than hotel management, however on the other hand it seems like the hotel could have done something to ask those guests to behave in a more considerate manner. So although I loved the property and the management, the other guests kind of ruined it for me. read more

I had the pleasure of staying at the hotel with family. We were a group of six adults and three kids. We rented three rooms and everyone was very happy with their accommodations. We were greeted by Elba, who went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Each room had a lovely welcome basket with goodies. The hotel is nestled in the hills and is quiet and surrounded by trees and plants. It has a pizzeria (poolside) and a restaurant on site, which is extremely convenient. Right next door is a bakery/convenience store. One evening after a lovely dinner we set up a computer with movies for the kids in the sitting area while we had drinks poolside. So nice. The manager and his wife provided us with pool toys (floats, balls, etc) for the kids and beach chairs and coolers to take to the beach. It was hard getting the kids out of the pool. The Lazy Parrot is located near beaches and places of interest. We went to Hotel Cofresi one evening to see the sunset and sample their signature drink (El Pirata). The sunset was gorgeous and the drink ok. However, the place was crowded, we had a really long wait to get drinks plus it was extremely noisy. We were all looking forward to getting back to the Lazy Parrot, where we could have drinks, listen to music and to each other. We will definitely return. read more
