The children get home cooked meals everyday and the class sizes are kept small enough that every child is taken care of. The staff here truly care about the children. My daughter was sick one day and when I went to pick her up, one of the staff members was just holding her. The truly love the children there. I also picked FUMC because I'm a single mother who works full time. FUMC is full of all types of families from all different backgrounds. I feel diversity is incredibly important. I'm blown away by how much my daughter is learning as well. The director is absolutely amazing and I have never had a second thought about sending my daughter here.

Instead of grass turf there is a brown mulch so the children are constantly dirty . Also I witnessed a teacher pulling on my child's arm in a painful way. This school is a huge disappointment. My two children attended Renaissance school for two and a…read morehalf years. I had no choice but to transfer them to a different school mid-year. Both my children were behind in academics. My kindergartner didn't know all the letter or sounds of the alphabet. Her self-esteem was low and she was very shy. My 3rd grader was completely reluctant to writing and reading. He didn't even want to pick out a book at the library, which had not happened in the past. The longer they were at Renaissance school, the worse they became. It was very sad to see. At home, they were misbehaving and were very reserved about discussing their day at school. Obviously, they were not happy. We got the complete opposite of what was promised to us. I believed in the school's vision, but Renaissance school does not follow traditional Montessori teachings. My children had a total of 13 different teachers within their 2.5 years there! Apparently, the administration is very difficult to work for, and only a couple teachers have been there for more than a year. The energy of this place felt wrong for some time (over a year). I couldn't quite understand what I was feeling, until I volunteered in the school field trips. I saw, first hand, how the children, including my own, had little appreciation and respect for their learning environment and teachers. 3 months forward: My kindergartner now reads fluently. She has even moved up to reading chapter books. She is confident in her abilities at school, and she has become calmer and respectful at home. My 3rd grader now loves reading! He reads at least one grade-level book a week. He is so happy and responsible now. He now wakes up before me, so that he is early to school each morning. Although, it was a very scary decision to transfer my children mid-year, I have no regrets. Both my kids have told me that they learn so much quicker at their new school and that they are having a lot more fun. They both love their news teachers. I thank my friends and family who supported and encouraged me during my children's difficult school transfer. For anyone who is considering Renaissance School for their children, I highly recommend to search for another school. Not only is Renaissance school very expensive, it just does not deliver. During the time that we were still there, an undisclosed employee/ex-employee at Renaissance School, told me that my children would be better off attending a public school. I now see how that is true. The very limited academic progress that my children had there, was and is completely unacceptable. I am so happy and grateful now that my children left Renaissance School. P.S. I am not the sole parent who has experienced this. I have many parent-friends who have left Renaissance school for the same or similar reasons. I feel it is very important for other parents to know the truth, through our experience.

Our experience with this school was extremely disappointing, and based on what our family…read moreexperienced, I would not recommend this school for a child with ADHD or similar support needs. We were completely transparent from the beginning about our child's ADHD diagnosis and his need for accommodations, additional redirection, patience, and support. The school was aware of these needs before accepting him. Because the school also accepts the Step Up For Students FES-UA scholarship for children with unique abilities, we believed they understood that some students may require additional support and time to adjust. Unfortunately, after only six school days, we received an email asking us to attend a meeting to "go over accommodations." We went into that meeting expecting collaboration, strategies, and a plan to help our child succeed. Instead, we were blindsided. The meeting essentially became a conversation informing us that the school did not believe it could meet his needs and that he would need to leave. Six school days is an extremely short amount of time to determine what a child with ADHD is capable of, especially after transitioning from homeschooling into a completely new school environment. We expected accommodations to actually be implemented, given a fair opportunity to work, and adjusted if needed before such a major decision was made. We were also very uncomfortable with the Head of School, Diane, making assumptions about our child potentially having diagnoses beyond ADHD. School staff should certainly communicate behaviors or concerns they observe, but making diagnostic assumptions after knowing a child for only a few days felt inappropriate. ADHD presents differently in every child, and diagnostic conclusions should be left to qualified professionals who have properly evaluated the child. What disappointed us most was feeling that the focus quickly became everything our child struggled with rather than what could be done to help him improve. Children with ADHD may need repeated directions, redirection, support with transitions, emotional regulation, bathroom accommodations, and additional time to adjust. These challenges do not mean a child is incapable of succeeding. As parents, we also made a genuine commitment to this school. We purchased school uniforms, PE uniforms, school-specific supplies, and rented a school instrument with a monthly payment because we expected our child would be given a fair opportunity to remain there. After only six days, we were left with uniforms, supplies, and other school-specific items that cannot simply be used at another school. The issue is not the money itself, but the fact that families make these preparations in good faith believing the school is also making a commitment to their child. Parents of children with ADHD or similar needs should ask very specific questions before enrolling about what accommodations will truly be provided, how much redirection the school is willing to offer, and how much of an adjustment period a child will actually receive.

Before sending my son to daycare I had so many fears being that I keep up with the news from around the world and the horror stories I hear that goes on at some daycares made me petrified. But being a full time working mom I had no choice but so send my defensive child into the care of people I really didn't know. But after sending my son here for a while, he started to smile immensely when we pull up to all superstars because he knows where we are! That's how I know my sons is safe here! One thing that really made me trust this place with my whole heart is when I went to pick up my son the other day and the teachers had the kids outside and when one of the workers went and picked up my son to hand him to me he just looked into her eyes with the biggest smile on his face and just rested his head on her shoulder.
