You can get a cineworld card for £16.40 a month which if you go twice a month on weeknights or a weekend would be worth it. Costs nearly a tenner for an adult ticket otherwise. Comfy cinema seats and clean toilets. Parking is free but hard to find at busier times. It's also easy to get here by bus or tram with the stops a couple of minutes away. There's also a tesco close by which could be handy. Plus the usual Nandos, Bella Italia etc chain restaurants and a bowling alley with lots of video games. Also a casino where you can get a 2 course meal and a cinema ticket for £12.95 on a Sunday or Thursday night. I done this and it was pretty good, although you have to bring a passport to join up with the casino.

This location is HUGE - 23 screens, 4,723 seats, and one of the largest IMAX screens in Europe, The cinema is over multiple floors, and the layout can be a little confusing, the staff seem friendly enough and on guard to help. If you require lift access, you will require a staff member to help you with this as they are NOT customer operated. Escalators are available without the help of a staff member. There are lots of screens to pick up and purchase tickets, and there is normally at least one person on the manned desks if you want to use as little technology as possible to get your tickets. There are often cheaper screenings, costing around £4.99 per person, so it is reasonable and affordable, combined with the many offers available from many third-party companies including banks and insurance companies, who offer discounted cinema tickets. Snacks are expensive, but what cinema doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the slightest bite to eat? Not much has changed since the ODEON days, the main difference is the branding around the cinema, some parts could do with a refurb but still a nice, large cinema in a great central city location. 4*

Sound quality seemed v good to me and although we sat right at the back, I wasn't bothered by the distance from the screen. Also, the toilets were super delightful, my friend was genuinely keen for me to go visit them to check the nice environment out! They have a good selection of releases, I would prefer to see slightly more indie in the mix but frankly whatever keeps this place upon as it's a total gem.

The foyer area of the cinema is very nice, with a little counter at the front where you can buy tickets and drinks and snacks. The Savoy will let you pre-book your cinema tickets, much like any of the large multiplex chains, but with a slight twist. You can reserve your tickets at any point, but you don't actually collect and pay for them until the movie showing. This can result in a bit of a queue, so if it's a popular movie you should arrive in plenty of time. The range of drinks and snacks is pretty good; they have everything from soda to beer and wine, as well as the usual popcorn and Ben & Jerry's ice cream tubs. The prices are also very reasonable. When I visited there were three of us there to watch the new Star Wars movie (no spoilers, I promise!), and in all the three Standard seats with a pint and a soda was £27. The seats themselves, for "Standard" seating, were pretty damn comfortable! Usually in a multiplex it's a bit hit-and-miss whether I get a comfy seat with enough leg room to accommodate me as I'm not exactly short. The Savoy seats were great, and I had plenty of space to stretch out without hitting the seat in front which was great. The drinks holders are also stylish and large enough to handle any drink you throw at them. There's only one screen at the moment, though I think they're adding a second smaller one at some point (though I could be wrong). That said, the screen is plenty big enough and the projection was spot on. If you're going to be a regular visitor to The Savoy, they have a membership scheme which is £20 per person per year but this gets you two free tickets to see any movie* in any seating class so you can use them for the premium seats. Membership also gets you ongoing discount on regular ticket prices as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to The Savoy and I can see myself making regular visits in the future. For some reason the setting made need feel like in The Witches at that hotel laden with red carpet and old worldly staff. I doff my cap to the restorers of this place - with the neon lighting juxtaposed against the 1930s interior. This is a jaw-dropping place to spend an evening, a million miles away from the typical out-of-town multiplexes. Tip: the box office is accessed from the street through a door to the far left of the front of the theatre. Tip: the small tubs of vanilla ice-cream sold during the interval are superb.

No there is no hassle parking your car, no there is no queue to buy your tickets and you never see the annoying sign on the screen "sold out". This alone can create a riot. No, there isn't a queue to bag some popcorn, hotdogs are warm, toilets are clean. Okay, the seats may not be made from the finest Italian leather and they don't have little cup holders ( I can never work out which one to use anyway) but this cinema is great. Ticket prices are cheaper than anywhere else in Manchester and you always get to see the film you want. In fact, Showcase always seems to be pretty much empty, its a wonder it stays open, but I will be at the front of the picket line should any one try to close this fine venue. I would surely miss this 14 screen trusty picture house and its friendly staff. Well, my secret is out now, so please Yelpers pay it a visit, just not when I am going because I like to choose my parking space and I don't do queues.

The deal would be stop off at Martin McColl's, splash out on a ton of sweets and a few soft drinks (our rule was nothing chocolatey as that tends to melt) and head over to a very traditional, almost 1950s-looking cinema. That's what I love about Showcases. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Odeons and AMCs of this world but there's something about a Showcase that smacks of times gone by. So occasionally I'll take the trip out of town to find myself here. It is a wonderful little secret as Imogen states, but unfortunately it must come out of the closet. Showcase is an American company, and one thing I must say is the Yanks know how to do cinema. (If only we could follow their lead with drive-ins and peanut butter M&Ms, we'd be a very happy country.) It was one of the first companies to open multiplexes in the UK as well, back in the 1980s. Hence the traditional aspect. While you'll see all the latest films you'll definitely get a sense of wistfulness being here, it almost takes you back to a simpler time because despite the obvious technological developments not much has changed in the world of Showcase. And that's the way it should stay. Long may Showcases rule on the edges of motorways and within entertainment complexes. You're hardly likely to find one in a city centre, and that's just the way we like them.

We ordered our tickets online and just used one of the kiosks to retrieve them when we arrived. There was a line for drinks and snacks, so if you aren't sneaking your own in, leave yourself a bit of time. While you enter the cinema from the upper level, when inside, screens 1-6 are downstairs while the rest are upstairs. The screen we went into had VIP seats in the center. Mr. Snarky didn't pay for them as the regular seats are actually quite comfortable and not too far off from the VIP seats in quality. However, we did sit right behind one of the VIP rows and I had the unfortunate experience of having the person in front of me leaning back quite far in his seat... surprisingly there wasn't much room between my seat and his, so I have a small bruise on one of my knees that couldn't escape his seat back. Not sure if you can exit through any part of the mall when the movie ends after closing time as we parked nearest to The Oasis so we wouldn't have to worry about this. Other than that, we were quite pleased with our experience, definitely better than our local cinema.

In Screen 1 the curtain draws and renounces and the lights go up, just at this moment, like the old days. My membership gets me a free supper for Throwback on Sundays (modern classics) and the lounge areas between the screens are worthy of experiencing for dining even if you're not up for a movie. Classic Modernist furnishings align to the Bauhaus movement / The International Style and serve to complement the building's architecture and history. Clean lines. Stylised neon. Decadent minimalism. Quality to detail. Lush textures. Red lights and mirrors. A relaxing atmosphere with wifi. There's a content partnership with AppleTV+ so you get exclusives, simultaneous releases and even opportunities to watch the pilot episode of a new small-screen series right here on the big one. St John's square is like Soho Square in the West End, London innterms of size and feel. I often sit there watching the footy on my phone or reading if I arrive early. It's peaceful and smart at this end of town. The Everyman smartphone app is the clincher. Book your seat, save to apple wallet, add to calendar for a reminder and often, as you leave the venue, it connects through to Apple Music and plays you the theme tune to what you just watched as you leave the building right into your airpods. Not bad! Check it out but don't tell everyone.
