When my…read morewife and I moved to Alexandria we were looking for something different than the traditional service of long slow hymns with organ music and the more old school traditional thing. So if you are looking for organ music, this is not the place for you. For us it was just what we were wanting -- a group of really nice people and a real message that is relevant to the kinds of things all of us are trying to figure out about ourselves and what it is all about. There is a great band and the music is really good. For me, having really good music is important. It helps me get connected and the music always seems to go along with the message for the day. I've now made playlists of the recorded versions of the songs that I listen to when I'm running. And James, the pastor, delivers a message that you can tell is from the heart. He doesn't read from notes but delivers the message in way that is engaging and personal. He also isn't a preachy kind of preacher either -- and he will be the first one to admit that he struggles and makes mistakes all of the time and has been working his whole life to figure it out just like the rest of us. This place is very accepting too. You will find a diverse group of people and a group that is very accepting of anyone who comes in the door whether that is someone who has never stepped foot in a church ever, or hasn't for years, or is a regular church person. There is a good mix of people who are young and old, of all colors and straight and LGBT. Another nice thing is they broadcast the service online. So if you are away and still want to catch the message, you can watch it live or they also post the video on the webpage. Also, you can wear anything you want here. Come in jeans, shorts, flip flops or dress up. Whatever you feel comfortable in. This is a really nice thing about this place. It is very laid back and comfortable. There are opportunities for small groups and get togethers too. So if you are looking for ways to get to know people and to go deeper and talk about things together, there are opportunities to do so. They are also involved in the local community and there is an annual mission trip to Appalachia. So, bottom line, this is a great group of folks. We love this place and the people here. It's been a long time since I found a group of people that I truly miss seeing when I'm out of town and can't get together with them for a while.

Since that first Sunday, so many things have changed in my life. Marriage, family, and work. But no matter what is happening, I know I can go there and worship with a group of people who are full of love. I know I can hear a message that will connect to my life. And I know that I will take away some inspiration to help share that love with others throughout the week. I feel lucky to have found this community!
