Owned by the Eclectic Group (also own the Great John Street Hotel in Manchester as well as other establishements), memberships are in-expensive (around £10 p/m), for which you get the opportunity to work from or just relax in their wonderful facilities - and feel that little bit special. The staff are extremly attentive and Alisha the membership manager, takes time to get to know all her members and what you like/dislike about the facilities. Private booths and boardroom style rooms are available to hire for meetings or social gatherings and the venue can be hired as a whole for weddings and/or parties. The piece-de-resistance is a small cinema room (seating about 30 people) that from time to time shows films (family friendly ones in half term) and can again be hired out for a private function. The menu is varied and offers a selection of sandwiches, steaks, burgers and breakfast options. I've yet to try the afternoon tea - but I've seen it and it looks amazing. Members are invited to lots of free events from business breakfast networking to after-work cocktail masterclasses (and the cocktails are yummy!). Guests are entitled sign-in to non-members when visiting On the 7th (not sure how many per time) and non-members can attend all events for a small fee too. Access is via a reception opposite Costa Coffee, where you'll be sign-posted to a lift taking you to the seventh floor to the aptly named On the 7th. Only open Mon - Fri at present. The place is huge and had so much room to sit, move and just be lived in - the people it attracts all look to be in the same boat with their macbooks/creative mindset and within 5 mins I've got chatting to my neighbour in our plush leather chairs about how great it is that you don't feel under pressure to drink up and go like a standard coffee shop! The concept is fantastic, you pay for the time you spend there and in that time can eat and drink as much coffee and cake as you like. Some people think the concept is odd, and I can appreciate it's a little different, but look at it economically and you're practically stealing from them! I genuinely felt guilty when I paid about £2.80 for 45 minutes of time, in which I'd consumed 3 slices of cake and 2 coffees. Thats the norm for me though, not that I'm a greedy pig, just that if I'm sat working for an hour (anywhere) I'll need a couple of coffees and something to nibble on. And let me tell you this for free, it costs a damn sight more than £2.80 even if I'd make the cake myself at home! I do wonder how they cover expenses however I believe a lot of volunteer work is involved and if you do volunteer, you get free time in the place - wins all round!

I'd love to know how many businesses are based in this area that would actually use the facilities here. I like that, in keeping with the nearby Library and Astley Cheetham's Gallery, it has some displays on the history of the building and that it is having a Heritage Fair this week (and I'm sure will continue some sort of programme in this vein). This is what the residents of Stalybridge will appreciate - traditional, restoration, resalvaging. Not like Wi-fi. And I suppose local social groups and clubs can meet here, but won't most of them already have a physical space that they are joined by? Anyway, it is still a really impressive building to look at with a statue of the man who composed 'Its a Long Way to Tipperary' in a bar on Corporation Street: Jack Judge. This was during the First World War and the elder residents round here are still proud of it. In my opinion, they should have put a new market in the Town Hall, but then again I am not in charge of town planning.

Some of the events on offer are: civic functions, concerts and theatrical events, family celebrations and weddings,training courses, meetings and so on. The rooms cater for 2 to 300 people so you aren't really short on space and if you want to go that extra mile you can order food too.
