What a lovely little shop with some excellent vegan sandwiches. The woman who runs the shop was really kind and I will definitely be back.

We walked-in for dinner just after opening around 5:30. Three tables were already taken and reservations are encouraged but we were accommodated with the condition of leaving by a certain time. We had hummus, lentil soup and chicken shish! The hummus had the perfect texture with a garlicky, tangy finish. The soup and chicken were good with very slight Turkish seasoning and fresh. We were presented the red "hot" sauce that was equivalent to a mild blended picco de gallo. (Minus the cilantro and onion) Overall an average meal at a very reasonable price.

Now, I absolutely love borek, after having it for breakfast in Albania- so I had some of that- it was lovely. Also baklava is one of my favourite things, so that happened too- also great. Top marks for the hummus too. I kind of wished we'd got loads of small plates and picked and shared, but my companion here isn't a sharer (I know, why are we still friends? I don't know either), so I had moussaka- which always risks being sloppy, but it wasn't at all. Lovely staff to boot too.

Both dishes were outstanding and showcased exactly why this restaurant is so highly recommended. The lamb shank was incredibly tender, rich, and flavorful, practically falling off the bone with every bite. The gravy paired perfectly with the creamy mash, creating a hearty and satisfying meal. The pork shank was equally impressive--crispy on the outside, juicy and succulent on the inside, with deep, savory flavors throughout. The accompanying red cabbage and slaw added a nice balance and freshness to both plates. Portion sizes were generous, the presentation was excellent, and every component felt thoughtfully prepared. If you're looking for authentic Scottish comfort food in Edinburgh, Makars Mash Bar is a must-visit. Both the lamb shank and pork shank were exceptional, and we'd gladly order either again.

It is like the bar sitting area in a small room but it is perfect. Nicely decorated and cozy. The server and receptionist are both very friendly! I ordered lamb shank with bacon green onion mashed potatoes and an elder flower cider! It did not take too long for the food to show up and I did not have lunch so this was perfect and just right to the spot! Lamb shank was soft and tender and full of flavors! It was so so good. Mash potatoes is also very yummy and flavorful! The elder flower cider is very floral and I really like that!

When our food arrived we finally asked to move spots but the back of the restaurant was just as bad. I can't believe other families weren't complaining. We also found a hair in our appetizer and the mains were subpar. My husband complained about his fries and burger and the manager was combative. They comped us for one whiskey and we left as quickly as possible. The shepherds pie was very salty and the side of veggies was very clearly from frozen.

We came in excited about this place, and the restaurant had open tables at about 6:50pm on a Friday ... we had just walked all day and were starving with a 2-year old and an elderly after walking all over town and sightseeing all day long. However, was told by this girl that they didn't have a seat for us. Although there was no wait, no one ahead of us and empty tables. I told her she could seat us in that booth, we didn't mind since our 2 year old wouldn't be eating. However, she cut me off and said that would not work. I thought that was weird but that should have been That it would take them about 30 minutes to get us a table. We walk around in the cold, come back to the restaurant ... there are plenty of open tables. My husband takes my 2-year old inside to wait so she is not in the freezing rainy cold (especially since she was sniffling). The hostess then says it's going to take longer and that we must wait outside the restaurant. We tell her it's cold, and we've been waiting. She then says ... "This isn't going to work, I'm not serving you. You guys can leave." She did not want to serve of us this entire time! She could have told us when we first walked in, but made us wait and walk around outside in the cold rain with a 2-year old and an 88-year old ... then decides she doesn't want to serve us. We walked in at 6:50pm, came back at 7:30pm, waited until 7:45pm when she told us she wouldn't serve us. By this time all the other restaurants were fully reserved or with 1-2 hour waits. We ended up not able to have dinner that night, and got snacks from the grocery store. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! NEVER TREATED THIS BADLY BY A RESTAURANT!

The food itself was extremely tasty (I had the Bengal King Prawns which were marinated in all sorts of spices and then cooked in the tandoori oven, they were gorgeous). But I went there feeling all excited about trying a new 'cuisine' that I'd never had before, and left feeling that there are a lot of Indian restaurants much closer to where I live that serve the vast majrity of the same dishes - almost as if they're just using it as a gimmick. Aside from that, there really isn't anything you can fault this place on. Despite my whingeing I still picked up a takeaway menu on my way out. Although the food might be very similar to a lot of other restaurants in the area, their prices are definitely the best.

I've been here a few times with some friends in my second year of uni and every time we've left stuffed with Nepalese food and content with the whole experience. The menu has a wide range of meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes, all of wich are authentic to Nepal and have their own unique blend of spices. The last time I was in I went for the lamb gurkhali khasi which is a traditional dish of the region and tasted amazing. With boiled rice, a naan bread and drink the whole meal came to tenner which we all throught was great value for money. I'll hopefully come here again soon as its service, food and atmosphere are all faultless.
