The sound of the bugling is magic: It's the sound of the Ogliocene epoch, 25 million years ago. Deer with upper canines? Highly recommend this experience! In the afternoon, enjoy deer and turkeys wandering on the green. The center is free. For best experience, bring your own folding chairs, sandwiches, and binoculars.

Also, it isn't the easiest place to find...look for the State College HS football field, and it is right next door. It does host birthday parties, which would be fun if we lived in the area. This did allow me to see and interact with all of the museum without interruption. There is a lot of interaction in this museum, almost every exhibit is one where you have to interact with. The newest interactive exhibit is the one where you can mold the sand to change the elevation on the table to understand how elevation plays in the placement of water. There are many other exhibits to play with here. You can try your shot at doing the weather with a green screen. Produce the winds for a thunderstorm. Slide down the slide to the sounds of a tornado. Honestly there are so many interactive exhibits that tell you about the weather. With Punxsutawney claiming to be the Weather Capitol of the World, this is a fitting museum. They also have a meteorologist hall of fame with some local meteorologist from the Johnstown, Altoona, and Pittsburgh area. Most notable in this is Jim Cantrone from The Weather Channel. He gifted the museum one of his jackets that he signed. Overall, a great place to pass some time, and not a bad place to take some kids. Definitely worth a try if in the area.

Most of the tour is self-guided, expect for a few parts where the person working that day will provide some directional context and information. Tour starts off with historical exhibits about the company, models, and people involved. This includes a handout and an informational video presentation. To be honest, this part of the tour is pretty dry and you have to be interested in planes and the company to enjoy it. On the other half of the second floor are full size trainer planes and military exhibits. The first floor has the most interesting exhibits including several airplanes. In partnership with Pennsylvania College of Technology, there is a project plane being worked on by students which is interesting. Other exhibits in this area include displays of propellers and engines. Overall, your experience in The Piper Aviation Museum is going to vary depending on your interest in planes and the company. The average sightseer could probably skip this museum.

Palmer is free although you do have to pay for parking which was still inexpensive. The Palmer has a wide variety of art. It's comprehensive without feeling overwhelming. The building is only a few years old, and the architecture takes advantage of the adjacent arboretum which is also free and worth a stroll. Leave yourself 60-90 minutes to enjoy all the exhibits.

Its dedicated to the history of WWII and the collection of artifacts and materials from that time period. They do have large collection of badges, insignias and uniforms from all combatants during the war. Eldred was the site of a munitions factory that ran non-stop from 1942 to mid-1945 that produced bombs and shell casings that were used in the war on the Allied side. It has a library where you can go around and check out books and maps if you're really interested in a certain topic. It is a great place to go if you have a Social Studies project to do and you want to go check it out. plus theres a cool tank half-bursting out of the wall, haha.

The Wilder Museum is one of the very best little local types of museums I've ever seen. It has over…read more3,000 exhibits, most of local interest but others that would score international interest such as the Joseph DeFrees antique gun collection. It's no ordinary collection. The guns of this collection are striking examples of the exceptionally rare and ultimate works of gunsmithing and metal engraving. Besides the 1963 Mercedes favorite car of National Forge owner Robert Wilder, there are all sorts of examples of the works and products of national forge. Then there are Indian artifacts and histories covering nearly 8,000 years of the county bordering Seneca Indian Nation. There is a good history of Seneca Chief Cornplanter along with the monument dedicated to his memory. With so many significant things you should at least plan upon a 3 hour visit as the war or military not only takes some time but contains exhibits that are real eye openers as to the history of the many military engagements depicted. I found the antique medical area, much of which I remember to be downright frightening. It's unbelievable how primitive our medical sciences were only as far back as the 40's and 50's. Overall it's a great museum, well worth seeing and a Yelp Five Stars with me.
