This was one of the first cafes that was recommended to us when we first moved here and we still take our visitors out to enjoy the atmosphere. You can take your dogs and just sit and enjoy the view and good tea and coffee. My Mum is 83 and has dementia, but she always says "we have been here before, I like the cakes" and she does too! Whopping great pieces that they are and Mum never leaves any. The staff are super friendly and helpful, the food is delicious, I love the zucchini balls and the sandwiches are Yummo too. Great atmosphere, great staff, great food. May be off the beaten track but well worth it.

I'll star with sadness - I only got the chance to go once, then had to go back to Sydney and then left the country 5 months later back to the USA....so, yes sadness is real. Praise - this place is chock full of near perfection in every corner both, visually, service-wise, menu offerings, flavor pallets and truthfully even cost. I stumbled into this local spot by accident on a quick northerly road trip that I cut short in Port Macquarie which ended with me making a resy at the Stunned Mullet while the sky remained pitch black outside. I went in by myself, got sat cordially, presented with options and recommendations and before you could blink my first course was sitting there watching me salivate. I've eaten around A LOT, all over the world and this place really shoved its way to the top of my "Best places to Eat" list and will likely stay there for eternity. I had the glacier fish...not sure if heaven is real, but it was at that moment in each bite of my main entree. Delectable. If you're in the area, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to this spot, spend the little extra money (get some credit card points) and Fill you belly with the goodness that is oozing out of this small quaint, warm, homey, elegant restaurant. It'll change you emotionally...or at the very least it will allow you to appreciate your emotions that come with every bite (including their desserts...dont forget dessert!) The rolls are huge too, I'm from Toronto and our rolls are much smaller than the ones here so I was like "whoah, these look filling!". The only one that seemed to be less popular among my group was the cooked tuna and avocado roll because it seemed "canned tuna-esque" tasting. Probably would've been tastier if it was a raw tuna instead. And it's too bad they didn't have chirashi available other than at lunch as that's usually my go-to dish at sushi restaurants.

We were seated quickly at the bar, and after taking some time to flag down a busy waitress to take our order, after about 5 minutes food started appearing. We ordered; *Fresh Salmon Carpaccio ($15.90) - We are big Carpaccio fans and were delighted to see four options to pick from! We chose Salmon because we are massive salmon fans and this dish was quite good. *Deep Fried Soft-shell Crab ($12.90) - Soft-shell crab is one of the more occasional items we order from Japanese restaurants, but we are certainly glad we did. This was really tasty and came with a generous serve of special mayo sauce. (I'm sorry I didn't get a photo of this - we ate it too fast!). *Dynamite Roll ($17.90) - One thing that I was really impressed with was the generous fillings in their rolls. I watched a chef put "a tonne" of meat/filling into their rolls... I ended up taking a photo demonstrating this. The roll itself was good, but could have been a little more spicy for my taste ;) *Teriyaki Chicken ($22.90) - The stand out winner. We picked this based off the other Yelp review that mentioned it. My wife jokingly swore when she tasted how good it was. *Miso ($2.50) - Standard side miso. *Japanese Tea ($3.50) - I ordered this expecting just to get a cup of tea and was surprised to receive a little pot, 2 cups. This was enough for 3-4 glasses of tea! yay! *** OVERALL: very impressed with Maki Moto and will happily come back and recommend this place to people. I'm actually keen to share this with a friend whose family live in Port Macquarie. Well done guys! We ordered 4 items (3 starter'ish things, 1 main) and 2 extras and our Total Bill came to $75.60. Which was alright/average for the amount of food we got - still very happy.
