The aesthetics were quaint and unique. The service was great and helpful for out of towners. We ordered back shore ham panini that was spot on. The only thing lacking was the balsamic. Wife ordered the gluten free turkey. It was really good. Def recommend.

Quality delicious ingredients, friendly staff, quick service --what more can you ask for? My first visit to the Local Press was spontaneous. I rushed in on my way to a meeting and ordered a house salad and caprese sandwich with turn. I was nervous about time, especially as the small shop began to fill with more people, but it wasn't more than a 10 minute wait. My sandwich was flavorful and filling. I'm looking forward to try more options!

Great stop outside of Portland. Highly recommend for a fantastic local soup and salad.

Great sandwiches! Usually I just do takeout but decided to stay and eat in. They have canned drinks (alcoholic and non) to buy. Parking is on the street.

Not sure why I waited to post this review. My bad. Having lunch with a colleague and our first option fell through. Was in the area and suggested TLP. So glad we did. What a great experience You can easily pass by TLP when driving, so pay attention and stop by. You will not regret it. They are not huge but have great seating options. The menu is awesome. My colleagues went for the salad which was just what she needed because of dietary constraints. I will die the chill which was awesome, even in the summer months. Then there was dessert. OMG. The cheesecake, which might have been peanut butter was off the chain. The staff is great and the food is fantastic. Waiting for my next lunch meeting.

Lovely local spot in Portland. The paninis were crispy and yummy. There's no indoor or outdoor seating-- seems like most people were calling in their orders for pick up.

    Maple chips...definitely worth a try!

I can't believe I haven't already reviewed this place! How is that possible? Let's see - where to begin. First this is a tiny sandwich shop, but big on flavor and friendliness. I've probably had at least 6 different sandwiches from the regular menu, plus the many specials I get tempted by. They use fresh ingredients (tomatoes so red and baby spinach that looks like it was plucked that morning). They have a variety of creative sandwiches all made with Boar's Head products. Hot and cold. Oh, and soup (which I have yet to try). I've not had a sandwich here that I wouldn't get again. But also can't stop from trying something new each time. Oh, and they have cheesecake! And I mean good New York style cheesecake, but with a twist. One of the young men that works there makes them and is always trying something new. Like apple pie cheesecake or Bailey's Irish Creme. They are so good - and they sell out quickly. So, if they have it when you are there, get it! You won't regret it! This is one of my go to lunch spots! And they made it even better recently when they opened the Tap Side....but that's another review.

A simple menu but a good one. Hot and cold sandwiches, but menu is a bit meat-heavy. Look out for the panini special and soup special! It changes every day and is always something fun and tasty. I wish there were a vegan option--maybe a tempe panini--and a healthier side option, but everything they do have is delicious and fresh. I highly recommend The Islander! It has the most scrumptious goat cheese.

This place is a food haven: small, cozy, affordable, and absolutely delicious. I came for dinner with my partner on a weekday evening, and it was totally empty except for one other party. The space is pretty small, but has a very quaint, homey atmosphere: think ambient lighting, darker wood, a simple menu. The service was fantastic. We were immediately welcomed in, and our waiter checked in on us often. We ordered the crab wontons to start, the Kuno chicken sandwich, and a fried rice that I now am forgetting the name of and can't locate on the online menu. We also ordered two cocktails. Everything came out hot and was absolutely delicious: you can just tell that the food here is made with love. The crab wontons were jaw-droppingly good -- I'll definitely be getting that again -- as was the fried rice, which had tender strips of chicken and that elusive wok hei that I've struggled to find in Portland restaurants. The fried chicken sandwich was great too, though smaller portioned. My partner and I tend not to order cocktails at restaurants, since so often you're getting three sips worth of a drink for something like $15, but Kuno's cocktails were such a treat. They were unique, tasty, complex, and actually sizable -- my cocktail kept me hydrated through the entirety of my entree, which is rare these days! Overall: I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon this spot. I can't wait to return!

I've driven down Cumberland Avenue countless times and somehow never noticed Kuno. It's an easy…read morespot to miss -- definitely in "hole in the wall" territory --but it's one worth finding. On a recent snowy Saturday night, we were looking for a casual, affordable sit-down dinner. The challenge? It's Portland, so most places close by 9 pm. Kuno, open until 11 pm, was a welcome surprise. The restaurant has a cozy, neighborhood feel with plenty of free street parking nearby. When you walk in, the bar area is the first thing you see. It almost feels like the bar's the whole restaurant, but there's a small dining room tucked in the back. The bar itself seemed like a great spot to grab a cocktail and a bite, and I'd come back just for that. The menu isn't huge, but it has a solid variety. I stole a bite of my husband's spicy chicken sandwich, and it was easily a 10/10. The bread was fluffy, the chicken thick and juicy, and the slaw on top gave it a yummy twist. My ground chicken with basil came with a crispy fried egg, but it leaned a little salty. I also assumed the egg would be sunny-side up, which was on me. I'd still order it again, but the chicken sandwich was the clear winner. We also got a few apps: the wings were juicy with a generous portion, the pork dumplings were delish, and the crab wontons, while tasty, leaned more cream cheese than crab filling. Drinks-wise, they offered cocktails, beer, and even full bottles of wine; we ordered a $40 bottle of Italian red. Our two entrées, three apps, and wine came to about $110, which felt reasonable for the portions and quality, especially given the area. We left happy and will definitely be back when we're in the mood for no-frills Thai food. Kuno is exactly that -- homey, unpretentious, and casual, but still a place where you can order a reasonably priced bottle of wine and get solid service.

"Heaviness" is pretty subjective depending on the toppings. The pizza - Soppresatta was packed with flavor, salty, spicy, little sweet from a touch of honey and a very fresh, slightly punchy sauce - keeps some acidity and tastes lively. The crust was delicious, from what I read, this is a sourdough crust. Definitely had some good character and flavor to it.. I got this heated before eating it. The vegan special - obviously I'm not vegan, but that pizza looked phenomenal. Had to try it. This one did not get heated up as it was suggested to leave it cold (logical considering it basically has a salad on top). I don't know what the vegan cheese was but it tasted like a whipped ricotta/goat cheese would. The fresh tomato, pickled peppers and red onion all played perfectly together. I'd certainly go back here. A little on the pricey side but I think it rang in around $18 on these 2 slices (yes, pictured is considered a slice of each) I was plenty satisfied.

It was a scrumptious combo and I thought the bagel itself was a very good bagel. Each addition is a bit pricey - $4.50 each for the egg and turkey bacon, for example. In general for their own specialty bagels or for a combo of three things you make yourself, you're looking at a $15+ bagel. However, said bagel also comes with an enjoyable ambiance. It's a bit indie/cutesie/intentionally lighthearted but very enjoyable. There are window seats to look out on to the street and a whole separate large room of tables that would make for a good place to get some work done if that is the goal. There is sweet gift section with the Russ & Daughters story/cookbook, t shirts, and clever hand-designed cards. The service was hit or miss - one employee was very attentive, another seemed annoyed to have to serve customers (although in a NYC deli, after which this place appears to take its inspiration, a little grinchiness perhaps makes the experience more authentic). All around, a few small negatives, but I really enjoyed my bagel and its surroundings, so five stars. UPDATE - I went back a second time and got basically the same thing minus the turkey bacon ie a bagel with cream cheese and an egg, and an iced coffee. Came out to about $15. I think their prices are just unreasonably high unfortunately and the egg the second time around fell flat.
