What a great, unique place to stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of amenities for the price and a nice attention to detail, such as, the elevator was very faintly scented with air freshener, not too strong, and the tile work in the toilets by the restaurant had lovely butterflies. So much seating all over the hotel and of course lots of big windows for the views, so the interior was naturally lit. If I could suggest anything, it would be an update to the thermostats, a pretty penny, I'm sure. The aircon blew nice cold air that cut the humidity, but the thermostat didn't adjust easily, room 205 FYI. We couldn't just push it a tiny bit or the change wouldn't register, so I pushed it too far. Woke up in a hot room, tried to push it down only a tiny bit, didn't work. I managed to sleep enough, but it was cooling at 71 or 77. Really difficult to get it in between. I finally decided it was easier to sleep warm than sleep cold. read more

My husband had the salad buffet and the soup on the buffet. He said that was good but the Caesar salad with crispy chicken was the worst I have had anywhere. If it wasnt for my husband, I would have asked them to take it off our bill. There were only 4 to 5 tables occupied during our visit and the food took a long time to come out and we had to go looking for the waiter to pay our bill. This was a great spot to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner. We chose lunch during our stay they accommodated my celiacs needs and I felt safe eating here. I had the blackened catfish and the fries had a dedicated fryer!!! As a celiac I have to say THANK YOU!!!' The meal was so filling we took back left overs to the cabin for dinner that evening. This lodge is beautiful! My family and I live in the area. We like to take drives and see the wildlife on the way. Most times we see deer crossing through. The cabins are well equipped, clean and present amazing views! You will not be disappointed. Go for a relaxing vacation. There is no reason to leave this state park. Ha a reservation for 2 nights and put a deposit down online and when we checked in they charges me double for a 2 night stay. Saw the error went back to front desk and they said they would refund the charge and it was never refunded. 3 days later still trying to get ahold of a manager or administrator to refund the charges and they still can't tell me when the refund will be in my account. The administrator still can't tell me when I get my refund. I would not recommend staying there. Maybe visit the lodge and go somewhere else to stay the night. read more

For this stay, we rented a roomy cabin, in the woods away from the main lodge. It was worth it! A big deck in the back, with the same great views as from the lodge, only with more wildlife. Indigo Bunting, American Gold Finch, Blue Jay, Brown Thrasher, White Tail Deer, Cotton Tail Rabbits, many different species of Butterflies. And, the ever-present opportunistic buzzards. Always circling above, perpetually patrolling along the rock cliff with a watchful eye, hoping to find the body of a careless hiker among the rocks below. Beautiful panoramic views, and cool, calming quietness. Well, it was quiet after I begged the maintenance staff to turn off the hot tub. The annoying pump ran endlessly, drowning out the pleasant song of an Indigo Bunting that had made claim to a nearby tree top. An enjoyable stay! read more

We came here during the great solar eclipse of 2024 to see the moon slip across the face of the sun for totality. The Lodge had set up bags of gran and go lunches and they also had a lunch buffet for only $19 per person! The south facing patio overlooks the beautiful valley below. We could not have found a more wonderful spot for viewing the eclipse. Although we didn't stay at the lodge, it's a great place and the staff are very nice. Thank you Lodge for opening your spot in the path of totality for us. It's interesting that we passed so many places along the way asking $100 to park in a field. No charge for visiting the lodge and having a good lunch just prior to the eclipse was perfect. read more

I decided to get away for the Thanksgiving holiday and took a trip to the mountains. The cabin I am staying at is adorable and not far from the Skycrest Restaurant. I was skeptical that anything would be open and was pleased to find that the Skycrest was opened and doing a turkey feast. From the pictures, the Vista from the restaurant is epic but with the rain, it had other ideas. I wound up the mountain in a fog, it was pretty dismal looking. The restaurant as a beautiful Lodge feel with soaring windows. The lodge is full of beautiful rough log posts. Large rustic lights hang from the tall ceilings. The buffet was stock full of all of the Thanksgiving favorites, turkey, ham, sweet potato, dressing, gravy, rolls, corn, green bean casserole, and all the desserts you could imagine. The turkey was fall apart tender, everything had a great flavor. It was truly delicious! My server was friendly and had great follow-up. I will be leaving the area tomorrow and I'm going to be sure to stop by tomorrow to check out the vista, hopefully the fog has cleared by then. Beautiful lodge located atop the highest mountain in Arkansas. The lodge and rooms are the cleanest we've been in. The only concern is the toilets are very low! We actually looked down on some clouds toward Blue Mountain Lake. Different looks all day as the light and shadows change on the mountains. The restaurant was a disappointment. Both nights they had ALL BBQ buffet. Desserts were all so sickly sweet even the bread pudding. They were short staffed but didn't understand since majority had the buffet. The staff was very polite... It took 40 minutes both nights to get our check. You can order off the menu. BYOB! It is located in a "dry county" but you can become a free member to the club after you fill out lengthy application. read more

For a state park lodge, Mount Magazine is quite nice. The bathrooms are beyond tiny, but the rooms are massive. There are not that many accessible activities. The drive up and down the mountain takes longer than one would think. The restaurant food is less than mediocre and unfortunately that's the only close option. The restaurant and bar close at 8. That's early! The staff is very friendly and the four stars are for the view and nature. They have butterfly gardens and multiple hummingbird feeders. The barn swallows are also fun to watch. Two separate reviews - the lodge and the Skycrest restaurant. Lodge (5 stars): You don't go to this lodge for luxury - you go to this lodge for a spectacular view and meditation. My wife surprised me with this trip, and it was exactly what we needed. I couldn't locate a room that I would expect to have a bad view - the higher the better I suppose. The peace you feel walking out in the early morning to the sun glistening off the lake with a light morning fog will take you to another place. Skycrest (1 star): The service was great, but the food is some of the worst I've had. We had buffet style for all three meals. For the two dinners that we ate, there were some oddities is flavor and texture that are hard to describe and that one never forgets. Italian is hard to mess up, but this was one of those occasions. Desert held its own and the breakfast we ate wasn't memorable, which is a good thing in this case. The strong drinks from the bar provided a little redemption. You don't go to this lodge for luxury - you go to this lodge for a spectacular view and meditation. My wife surprised me with this trip, and it was exactly what we needed. Hands down, the most beautiful lodge to live in Arkansas! We visited right during Fall 2020 and were blown away by the location and the beautiful structure of the lodge. Sitting at the top of Mount Magazine, this lodge is neighbors with bears, some beautiful birds and is an absolute treat. The room we booked was the standard room without the balcony since everything else was booked up. But even that room had the most gorgeous view. They have a fireplace in the seating lounge and rocking chairs outside on the viewing deck to watch the sunset and sunrises. Very peaceful! They staff was friendly and lodge has been kept in great shape. There is restaurant onsite which had limited menu due to COVID. There was not a single vegetarian entree so we HAD to skip eating here. Would love the restaurant to be more inclusive of food choices. Therefore the 4 stars only. Highly recommend for the location and stay alone. read more

They do not offer any Military or Police discount. So, because they were booked I had to change rooms. At least the 2nd day I didnt have to wait for my other room I got right in. The rooms were clean except the King room, there were bugs in the Jacuzzi and the housekeeping left a magic eraser by the Jaccuzzi. After letting the front desk know about Jacuzzi, it was still dirty when I returned 2 hours later, so i cleaned out the bugs and left the magic eraser on the floor. Other than that it was good. The beds were hard, so I woke up alot in the night. I think the Restaurant The Skycrest was the worst. They leave you waiting to be seated for a real long time. The service other than that was good. The food wasnt that good for the price. The last morning I went for breakfast and they dropped my toast. I was told they made more but took forever to get it. Then with no one in the dinning room it took them forever to take my payment. My first night I was told they were busy and shorthanded but I was almost done eating when I finally got my drink. The Buffet was horrible The sign said BBQ although I never saw BBQ the buffet was empty and dirty and the lettuce was brown and wilted. The desert was the best part of the whole meal. This is clearly the crown jewel of the Arkansas State Park system! The Lodge is a palatial facility, located on a mountaintop. It is in fact right by the highest point in Arkansas, Signal Hill, which is a short hike from the lodge. Mount Magazine State Park is in fact one of the newest State Parks, being less than twenty years old. This means that the facilities are modern and convenient. The lodge is huge, and offers various rooms from Standard to Deluxe King which has its own hot tub. There are two other public hot tubs by the indoor pool, if you don't want to spend as much. All the rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and offer priceless views. There are handicapped options, and even dog-friendly rooms. There is a big gift shop in the lobby for all your souvenir and convenience needs. The Skycrest Restaurant is available for your dining pleasure, which is a good thing as there are very few other places to eat within a convenient driving distance. The menu offers a wide variety, and servings tend to be large to very large. I found everything to be very good, and filling indeed. There is also a bar in case you want to have some adult beverages. The park itself is also first rate, with a large Visitor's Center with interpretive exhibits and programs to participate in. The hiking trails are well marked and maintained, and there are plenty of them to explore. Mountain bikes can be rented at the Lodge if you would rather ride than walk. read more

We loved the lodge and in a COVID free world- easily five stars. However, some of the Staff are clearly not believers of science. We were informed that the flu kills more than Covid, we were told that this is going to be over after the election, and we were informed by someone who worked in the restaurant that she was over it. This all during Arkansas being a new hotspot. It is a beautiful place and we did love it but the longer we were there the more we want to isolate from the people who work there. There is no room at this lodge that has a bad view! The lodge is built into the side of the mountain and all the rooms are facing out, allowing every guest to have a breathtaking view. Normally when I book a pet friendly room, I don't get any extra benefits and can expect to stay at the back of the building on the bottom floor... Not at the lodge! Our large pet friendly room (#105) included a jacuzzi, king size bed, and a balcony overlooking the mountains. I was very pleased with the room and accessibility to the outside for potty walks. There is also more sidewalk and green area for dog walking and deposits than I expected. If you're like me and you frequently travel with a pooch, you know this can be a struggle. The restaurant was open 7am to 9pm when we were there. They offered dinner and lunch specials daily. There is also a small gift shop to purchase souvenirs or items you may have forgotten on the trip. The restaurant is open to those who stay at the lodge, cabins, or just people passing through. This is a perfect weekend getaway if you want to unplug and relax. There are several hiking trails within walking distance of the lodge. Next time, I plan to stay in the pet friendly cabins, which include a hot tub on the porch! read more

One of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had... I strongly urge you to avoid the Lodge. We made a reservation and then had a family emergency with a parent needing emergency heart surgery. We called to cancel 3 days out as their policy is 48-hour notice and we spent over an hour talking to them and trying to get a refund. Despite explaining the math they refused to give us a refund. Not to mention we called 4 days out but it was the weekend and they are not open, we sent an email too but they refuse to honor that. We talked to someone named Betty and she was terrible. She gave us different numbers to call several times, refused to let us talk to a manager, and put us on hold again and again instead of helping us. The numbers she gave us went to the park system which doesn't run the lodge and even they said we should get a refund but that they couldn't help us. Rachel the manager doesn't even work for the state park, she works from some huge company called Aspira Connect. This huge company cares little for Rachel, pays her nothing, and doesn't let her make any decisions. Her only rule is to follow policies and the computer system counts 48 hours as starting at midnight not at check-in. She has no power to change it. And, because they are closed Saturday/Sunday they don't care if we called those days and no voicemail system. Avoid this Lodge like the plague. How could the politicians outsource our state and national parks like this :(? read more

You know those times where something is built up and built up, and then you finally get there... And it's better than you'd ever expected? For me, this was one of those places! We'd heard the Cabins were amazing, and that at least one of them allowed dogs, but we also planning on saving that for a group trip. But, we were driving through the area on a local Arkansas road trip with the dog, so we called ahead from just down the road. Not only did they have rooms available that night (on short notice), but they had a dog-friendly room open in the lodge itself. Score! We drove up the mountain to find it (not hard to find, for starters) and walked in the front - to be greeted by a double set of big wooden double-doors. That opened for us. I felt like a Viking God. Classy touch, Mount Magazine :) Now, it's expensive, so we knew this was going to be a splurge, and there was an extra fee for the dog, and no meals included. But, all the rooms are 2nd floor, South facing, with balconies looking down over the valley with a panoramic view that goes from sunrise straight on to sunset. And there's an indoor, heated pool. Just saying. There is also a restaurant that serves a breakfast buffet and has a solid menu for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. I can vouch for the pizza (the Veggie Supreme is pretty fantastic!) and the Stuffed Mushrooms (yum!) Both Dinner and Breakfast, our service was absolutely top-notch. There was a delay in the kitchen, and our server - Lecia, she's awesome! - and the manager came by to apologize and bend over backwards to make sure we were ok. I swear we didn't even mention it, but they did so well addressing it that even if we had been inclined to complain, we would have been more than satisfied. Great folks! There's also a climbing spot (although for very experienced climbers only), a number of hiking spots, a trail to the highest point in Arkansas (!), and a marvelous cliff-walk, including the spectacular views. Which area also visible from the pool! Did I mention the pool? A special note here, the pool and many of the rooms (showers included) are wheelchair accessible, which is a definite plus for a lot of potential guests. I absolutely recommend trying this place, even for a short stay, it's well worth a night. If you're at all concerned about cost, check out their on- vs. off-seasons, and look into the different types of rooms. read more

Why was I there? It seems my entire family originate from the Petit Jean River Valley in years-gone-by. I have eluded to my hillbilly leanings in the past. Yes, I am descended of the entire moonshine drinking, mandolin playing, what-kind-of-meat-is-this-it-tastes-like-chicken hillbilly culture. Every year we take my 97 year-old grandmother to the Homecoming in Belleville, AR. This time we decided to stay at the nicest digs in the area The Lodge at Mount Magazine. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! It's hard not to give this place a high rating. It literally clings to the side of the mountain and every room has a beautiful view of the Petit Jean River Valley. Since the location is owned by the State Park the prices range from $149 a night for a double without a balcony to suites from $182. They also have cabins and campsites. Indoor heated pool, hot tub, work out facilities, game room WITH air hockey, nice restaurant which always has some sort of buffet or you can order off the menu, gift shop, hiking trails, activities, hang gliding, etc. Make reservations AT LEAST six months in advance. Since it's pretty and inexpensive, it books up fast. Yes there will be lots of seniors and lots of families. One note, there was a lodge on the mountain in 1940. The only remaining feature is a retaining wall that still stands at the base of the lodge. It burned in 1971. Down side, since it's run by the State Park you are not going to enjoy the 5 star service you would have in a private facility. The service can be a little slow. The food is hit and miss--except for the local Petit Jean Ham which is better than bacon! read more
