In all my dining experiences from fast food burger joints to 5 Star Restaurants, there has only been one place that is absolutely perfect until now. And, it's a long way from San Diego, California.
Visiting friends in London, we always stay for two weeks spending one week in London and the other week somewhere else. This time, we chose to the city of St. Austell, Cornwall, England.
Got here after a 4 hour train ride and arrived just ahead of tropical storm Brian, we were hungry and needed someplace close to our condo. Looked this place up, made a last minute reservation, and they took us in. So glad they did.
Shaking off the rain once inside, we went upstairs and were seated immediately in a cozy corner of the restaurant. Might have been because we had two small kids but whatever the reason, worked for us.
We were waited on by the most pleasant waitress I have ever dealt with. With our group hem hawing about ordering and making special requests, most servers would've probably gotten aggravated but Millie (I hope I spelled her name right) was patient, friendly, and personable.
After our drinks were ordered, which, were a couple of local brews suggested by Millie, she proceeded to give us the specials of the day.
Not going to tell you what everyone got but I ordered the 14oz sirloin medium rare. The steak came out absolutely perfect and cut like butter. On the side, I ordered the garlic and butter mashed potatoes and these were perfect also. Didn't even need salt and I salt EVERYTHING!
After dinner, we decided to keep the ball rolling so we ordered desserts and after dinner drinks. My friend had a sherry and a sticky toffee cake with ice cream, I had a ruby port and some kind of buttered pecan sundae, and the wife had a coffee with Baileys.
His wife and the kids had dessert also but they ate and left before we did.
The ambience of this place was fantastic with wide variety of soft rock playing in the background, fire piers at the front, soft lighting, and candles on the table. This place is rated number 1 on another site so there is no way I could enjoy this food without praising them on Yelp.
I've never been the kind of person to travel a long way to eat at a restaurant that I've enjoyed before but I would definitely hop on a plane and a train to eat here again. read more
