They are very child friendly and provide high chairs, and they are also very very friendly with smiley happy waiting staff who are even patient with my children who change their minds several times before they let them escape! There is also a large car park for ease of parking, small space out the front with chauirs for summer al fresco dining. And for kids they have a slide, monkey bars, zip wire and other bits and pieces of kids play equiptment. For adults they also do a great new Years Eve evening, with this year it being a local comedian who also sings and does karaoke. Well worth a visit especially for the food!!

I had a decent pint of Trelawny and was very tempted by their food menu which looked quite interesting (I appreciate the fact that the St Austell pubs do not have a pub chain menu, each one seemingly free to develop their own). There is a nice front outside area but I imagine that the proximity to the main road means it is not quite as nice as it looks.

I commented that was a little odd ad they were only ten minutes into a lunchtime opening but received no reply. A few minutes later when a very elderly lady requested some mint sauce to compliment her lamb dinner she was told that it too was all gone despite only one other table of four diners having it ??? Our beef was overcooked and dry such with the knowledge that we had "been lucky" to receive led me to believe that it had been reheated from a prior service!

They are warm and charming and the staff are always pleasant. Regular live groups make it a great place for music lovers. They do food until late in the evening which is such a wonderful departure from the normal 9pm watershed.

Its all home cooked as well on the night no microwaving up stuiff from the day before etc in this pub! The landlord also puts his own wii out for people to play on, there;s a pool table, juke box, and often live music and different events going on. They do charity nights at times to for the local fire brigade and other charities too. They do parties at Christmas and New Year which prove increasingly popular. So to sum up fast efficient friendly service, fantastic food and just a generally good pub!x

I've also had some good food, in particular a surprisingly good toasted sandwich. Then again it was here that I finally understood the 'tough as old boots' description for a steak at the weekly steak club..and that same night there was a poor choice of beers. Bit of a strange pub really..for a start it is the only pub I know with access via a lift (it is up a very steep incline..then stepsthe pub name is the Cornish for 'higher quarter' and they have got that right!). I've also been puzzled by a group of slutty teenagers in there on a sunday night looking for somewhere lively, dressed to try and get into a club (on a sunday?). I've also seen it nice and quiet in the afternoon. So if I call it an average Spoons..I really do mean an averageof the good and the bad.
