When I first met Brad, I remember looking at my transcript and breaking down in tears. I had spent $3,000 on Angela Vorphal's Law School Masterplan, and all I had to show for it was a transcript full of B's. At that moment, I felt like I was crashing out of law school. I first found Brad, my tutor, after trying & spending $$$ on Blueprint LSAT study program. I felt there had to be better use of my limited study time rather than attending 2.5 hr. weekly live sessions twice per week with countless other students where we spent a good 30 minutes greeting the Blueprint instructors via zoom chat. I'm all for camaraderie but this was wasted time, in my opinion. When we spoke during the consultation, I learned more about his ability to recognize where we needed to focus to gain maximum benefit. I felt heard and seen by him immediately. We spent 4 hours per week getting into the meat of the LSAT over the course of 6 weeks. My practice exams were landing me around the 148-152 mark prior to my work with Brad. I took the Nov. LSAT and was elated to see I had achieved a 167. Brad is a skilled teacher. Brad is no LSAT Genius, but rather a genius at manipulation and belittling people! Outrageous prices with nothing to back it up. Refuses to let you speak to past students, and acts offended if you ask. When asking for references he said it was like " I didn't think he was worth the money." Most people in their professions rely on referrals, recommendations, word of mouth and reviews. It was not outrageous to want to hear feedback from real people when demanding prices upwards of $15,000 for tutoring. His condescending attitude like many other people on here have described really comes out when you question his certifications, techniques and experience. As a paying customer we have the right to ask all of these questions to make an informed decision. For Brad to think that he can bully, belittle and call names to potential clients is disgusting. My LSAT Journey My undergrad GPA is below a 3.0. Being an aeronautical science major, a Division I athlete, and dealing with some personal issues during undergrad negatively impacted my grades. My goal was to go to a T14 law school, so I had my work cut out for me: I had to do very well on the LSAT. I dreaded the LSAT; I was petrified of getting a bad score. Eventually, the LSAT consumed my life and became the only important thing in my life. I began my LSAT journey in 2013. For three years, I bought every LSAT book that was available--you name it, I tried it. I wanted to master the LSAT and be able to tackle every possible problem on the test. Along with the LSAT books, I tried a plethora of LSAT courses (classroom and online) and private tutors. I still didn't feel confident that I had grasped what I needed to know to do well. My practice exams were showing me that I didn't fully understand how to tackle the questions. I personally know when I know something and know when I don't know something. I cannot fake it or act like I know; my confidence and performance will let me know. The LSAT was very overwhelming to me, and I plateaued for a long time before meeting Brad. I had to take a lot of breaks because the test was just so mentally and emotionally taxing. I got frustrated, stressed, and depressed with not getting things right and had to just stop for awhile. This experience, up until I met Brad in 2016, sucked. I know the tutoring is quite expensive, but at the end of the day, it is very much worth it. I've experienced tutors who schedule a certain allotment of time and when that time is up, you have to purchase more time or stop, whether you understood the lesson/objective for that day or not. Everyone learns differently. I know I do. Suppose you are a slower learner, like myself. There are so many variables when learning or teaching are involved. Brad, on the other hand, literally, I swear to God, stops the clock and tries to explain something to you if he sees that you aren't grasping it or are having problems. Due to the fact that I had experience with other LSAT resources, my train of thought was sometimes stuck on what I had learned before and I couldn't comprehend Brad's methods clearly, so he had to break my bad habits. To break bad habits you have to explain and show why it is wrong and then show the correct habit. This takes time. Brad would stop the clock and speak for long periods of time--extremely long. This meant a lot to me. This made me feel confident that I had made the right decision in choosing Brad. Because of the amount of time I spent studying and prepping using other methods that didn't work, I found it difficult to break away/unlearn those methods and apply Brad's methods. I had spent about 2 years on and off of studying for the lsat and I'd gone through a useless Powerscore course and around 5-7 private tutors before finding a last-ditch effort in Brad. Most tutors I've had experience with tested in the 170s, but weren't very good at TEACHING the material. It's one thing to do well yourself, but can you explain it to another person with a different brain than you? Brad's the guy for that! My worst section, by far, was reading comprehension. I was at such a loss and had about 15 fresh lsat tests left. I was deathly afraid of scoring way below my potential. I was super worried because I was 15 points away from the lower end of my goal score range and 20 points away from a goal score I'd be ecstatic of. Timing was a huge issue too. Generally, I could only finish 3 passages, IF THAT. If the passages happened to jive with my brain and I found the topics interesting, I still couldn't finish a full section of passages in 35 minutes. I started with Brad apprehensively but found his reading comprehension method way easier to get my head around than the 20 million other methods that other tutors claim to have. Brad's method is unique and changed the way I read anything in general. He helps to figure out what information is important, how to categorize it, and how to answer questions faster. As others have said in their review of his curriculum, if you learn his method and implement it exactly you will be able to eliminate the wrong answer choices quickly. Brad has a way of breaking down the sections beginning with macro learning. The curriculum then delves into the minutia detail--the nuances of each problem type (the many varied LR problems, LG types, and a unique method for how to tackle Reading Comprehension). If I was having any issues comprehending a trend or problem type, Brad made sure that I understood. He would make up scenarios that were applicable to my life and interests so that I would be able to grasp the idea in a larger, more familiar context. Then he would bring that understanding back to LSAT specific problems. He was incredibly thorough and thoughtful throughout my first meeting with him all the way through to my application process. Brad was also very candid--a trait which many other tutors are not. He helped me to realize that for me, it was best not to rush the process. Together we were methodical, thorough, and calculated. It was this approach that enabled me to boost my score, gain confidence in my test taking, and ultimately made me a more logical person. I also chose to have Brad edit my personal statement because he was so instrumental in my LSAT success and improvement. During my very long LSAT journey, the most difficult period of time was overcoming my issues with Reading Comprehension. I had managed to self-study for Logical Reasoning and Logic Games to the point where I could score highly on a consistent basis. I was having successful practice tests, and was scoring in the mid and high 160s. However, Reading Comprehension was holding me back from my goal score of 170+. I was stuck in a "plateau" in the high 160s. This was very discouraging because I had an increasing sense of helplessness when I drilled this section. I had lost all confidence. If I couldn't improve my RC performance, I was not going to get the LSAT score I felt I needed to realize my aspirations. My daughter contacted Brad The LSAT Genius to retain him as a tutor. Brad claimed that he could bring my daughter's score up 15 points if she worked with him. Initially it was for 10 hours of tutoring at the cost of $2800. After meeting with Brad he suggested that she would need 40 hour of tutoring at the sum of $11,000. I was willing to entertain this, however I knew nothing about Brad, not even his last name. After reading his website I realized it was self-serving and I had some questions for him. One of the points in his website was that he developed a matter of teaching which is different than anyone else's and has been copyrighted. So I asked Brad in a text message for three simple things: 1. a resume, 2. a copy of the document that has been copyrighted, and 3. contact information for several references. He did not respond to me, but immediately wrote to my daughter. This was Brads reply, "Your father just contacted me with his requests. I am not applying for a job with him; you are seeking help from me. In all my years of tutoring, I have not submitted a resume to a student or her parents. Like I said, what is relevant is how good I am at teaching and that is best verified by a consultation and student references. Since you have done the former, I can provide the latter, but anything else is superfluous. It is not sufficient for your father, I unfortunately will not be tutoring you." My daughter responded kindly asking again for some basic details and a resume. His response, "I've been tutoring for years. Considering all my students have done well without asking for a resume, etc. you are the outlier, the exception. We will not be working together, so good luck with the test then." I always believe that one doesn't have to defend himself if there is nothing to defend. Before I delve into a review of my current LSAT journey, I think I should provide some background on my previous experience. I took an LSAT prep course as an undergraduate and did not do well, so I decided to put it aside and focus on my career after graduation. I tried again to give Kaplan a second go after I finished my MBA, and this time, I had enough money saved to even tack on additional 1:1 tutoring. I actually did worse than I did years earlier as an undergraduate. Not wanting to give up, I tried one tutor who professed to be a working attorney in the NYC area, and after two sessions, I realized that the individual was neither a working attorney nor even had a method/curriculum for teaching the LSAT. I took the Kaplan LSAT course about 2 years ago and didn't find it beneficial. They went through the material too fast and it was difficult to get individualized attention. I feel very lucky to have found Brad the LSAT genius when I did. I was coming off a terrible experience with Testmasters and I needed a game plan that was catered to my needs as a student who struggles with standardized testing. Brad and I worked tirelessly throughout the next couple months to boost my score. Luckily, I saw a 17 point increase from my initial diagnostic test (no previous knowledge or studying whatsoever) to when I took the October 2012 LSAT. Due to some changing life events, I ended up postponing law school applications for several years. I recontacted Brad last year to see if we could push that 17 point score increase into something even higher. I am pleased to report that I received an additional 7 point increase when I took the February 2016 LSAT. Studying for the LSAT was completely demoralizing and put me through so much anxiety. I've never been a fan of standardized tests, so going into this felt like I was already coming from a point of weakness. However, Brad guided me through the most challenging parts of this experience and really helped me gain the confidence to realize that I was capable of a 24 point score increase. What sets Brad apart from other tutors is that he is honest and will give you realistic assessments of where you are in your LSAT journey. Tutoring is of course an investment of serious time and money.... but I received a good return on my efforts :) My final word of advice is don't get sucked into the trap of some shake and bake LSAT teacher who really doesn't have any experience.
