I think I may have mentioned in several other reviews that I may have already graduated from my college habit of getting roaring drunk in shabby and sketchy little drinking places, especially those cheap and dingy places around La Salle and Benilde. These days, I'd like to get my drink on in places where the seats are padded, the light is a bit more ambient and the entertainment is leagues beyond the rowdy and expletive-riddled hip hop that they blasted in the watering holes around my university. The Malt Room is a little bit more refined, though I find that the crowd is just a bit older than the usual suspects in the rowdy bars of my youth. Located in the middle of the hopping Timog area, this place is an oasis of calm and a break from the loud thumping music from the bars and pubs nearby. I went here on an invitation by a friend who celebrated his birthday here, and we had a few bottles of scotch with several buckets of beer. It was relatively cheap, and we enjoyed the live acoustic performance that was going on while we were catching up over booze and food. The service is also quite excellent. I would definitely go back. read more
