We've been loyal customers of this restaurant for years and have always enjoyed bringing our friends, family, and coworkers to dine with us. We've recommended your place many times. However, during our most recent visit last weekend, we were extremely disappointed by the service we received. It was well below the standard we've come to expect and unfortunately, it ruined what should have been an enjoyable evening: 1. Cramped and Inappropriate Seating We ordered a 40oz tomahawk steak -- clearly a dish meant to be shared -- along with a starter. Yet we were seated at a tiny two-person table, despite arriving around 8:30 p.m. when the restaurant was already winding down. A larger table was clearly available, but no effort was made to accommodate us, leaving us cramped and uncomfortable throughout the meal. 2. Poor Course Timing and Service Attitude My drink was forgotten, and both the starter and main course were served at the same time. When we raised this concern, the server dismissed it by saying, "most people do this." That's simply not true -- starters are meant to come before the main course, and this should be common sense in any dining establishment. 3. Thoughtless Presentation and Hostility The steak was served on a massive plate placed vertically between us, leaving no room for side plates. When we asked for a better setup, the server responded with, "you don't have to talk to me like that." This was incredibly unprofessional, especially considering the issue stemmed from their own oversight. 4. Manager's Response Unfortunately, the manager's handling of the situation was no better. Instead of resolving the issue, she defended the server and offered excuses. Only after two separate discussions did they agree to remove the starter from the bill -- not as a gesture of goodwill, but seemingly just to end the conversation. 5. Concerns About Discrimination To add to our discomfort, I later saw reviews from other customers -- including one who reported experiencing racism. As an Asian customer myself, I can't help but wonder if that played a role in the dismissive treatment we received. It's a troubling coincidence that deserves serious reflection. This experience was one of the worst we've had in Banff, and it's clear that customer care is no longer a priority at this restaurant. Disappointing and Unpleasant Experience on Canada Day I recently had a very disappointing and unpleasant experience at Maple Leaf in Banff on Canada Day. We went to the restaurant to celebrate and to watch the Euro 2024 soccer games. Upon arrival,we asked if we can watch the soccer game. we were told there wouldn't be any audio for the game, but we were still welcome to watch. We ordered our food, paid over $100, including a tip, and then my husband briefly left to get my phone charger from our car, leaving me and our seven-year-old son at the table. Midway through the game, the same man who welcomed us upon arrival rudely told us to leave, claiming we couldn't just sit there and watch the game. His tone was loud and inappropriate, causing other tables to stare at us, making us feel embarrassed and unwelcome. Despite having paid for our meal, it felt as though we were being accused of loitering. When I approached the front desk to address the issue, he completely ignored me for some time, and when he finally acknowledged me, he responded coldly and dismissively, suggesting we go somewhere else. His lack of empathy and respect was shocking, and my young son became very stressed and even threw up due to the unpleasant encounter. As if that wasn't enough, we were left waiting outside in the cold and rain without proper clothing, as I couldn't contact my husband without my phone. My younger son was cold and panicked, and I had to wait in front of the restaurant for a long time to ensure my husband could find us. This experience was not only upsetting but felt discriminatory. Such treatment is unacceptable, especially on a day meant to celebrate togetherness and community. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, particularly families, and hope they address these issues to prevent others from experiencing similar distress. read more

Terrible service, cold food, glasses dirty and pricey for the quality of service and food received. A local recommended MapleLeaf as a steak house with good food and service. After our experience I would suggest she obviously has not eaten there. Like the previous entries, the first thing I noticed was the dirty glasses and slow service. In fact, something black was floating in my water glass after a refill. Our starter was over cooked and cold and when we complained the waitress didn't even offer to replace it nor apologize. When asked for a drink to include celery she said they don't do that rather than trying to accommodate with an alternative. I had a food allergy that I mentioned at the onset and my main course came cooked in the ingredient although I specifically requested it be prepared without. They took both meals away and came back 15 minutes later in which the only thing hot was the baby roasted potatoes, which by the way I ordered mashed. When all was said and done, it was over 150 dollars for poor service, mixed up food order, cold food, unhelpful and unfriendly service. They did take 25% off our starter. The one thing I will say, the neighbouring waiter did try to accommodate us for the lack of service our waitress provided by offering fresh ground pepper and filling our water glasses. By the way, he was our waiter when we were first seated but was changed without notice to the waitress we had throughout our stay. For what one expects from an upper class restaurant experience we were very disappointed. I thought I would speak to the manager on my way out however; it was of no benefit as he listened but offered no apology or suggested we come back another time. Will I go back or recommend this restaurant? Absolutely not! read more

The food was great, staff was friendly and fairly priced. Our concern was with how it was managed. We had a reservation and waited a bit before being brought upstairs to a beautiful, but empty restaurant. Anticipating a nice quiet table for two in the dining room, we were instead sat in the bar. We were promptly greeted then she disappeared from our table, where she continued to visit with guests at one table (completely) leaving us without drinks. The waitress was also the bartender and what was supposed to be a nice, romantic dinner felt like an overpriced trip to a dimly lit Chili's. While she had three tables, one waiter was waiting for a table, while the other had one. Upon expressing our displeasure, we were dismissed and then the food arrived. This visit was a view into mismanagement and clear favoritism to certain staff members. I my humble opinion customers shouldn't clearly see your internal politics. It amazes me how restaurants will seat customers in the worst possible locations when they have a much greater chance to shine when customers have great views and aren't stuck waiting on waiters. read more

Mixed feelings marked our experience at The Maple Leaf in Banff. Anticipating a birthday celebration, we were disappointed by the unavailability of oysters and another dish upon arrival. The maple-cured salmon was a highlight, offering a fresh and enjoyable start. The bison tenderloin and duck were decent, but the seafood linguine fell short. Some mussels were dead, and the dish suffered from undercooked wine, rendering it unpalatable. The server shared that the staff rushed the meal--which was unexpected for a finer dining establishment. We were given two desserts to compensate for the letdown, which were just okay. While the gesture was appreciated, it couldn't fully salvage our overall impression. The Maple Leaf has potential with its highlights, but the lapses in dish availability and inconsistent quality, coupled with a rushed dining experience, resulted in our disappointing meal. read more

The Maple Leaf has a great bar on the main level with a lofted dining area upstairs. We chose to sit in the really big lounge chairs in the entry level bar area where there is one row of dining. The interior is just as what one would imagine for a restaurant of this name. Lots of very nice beams and vaulted ceilings somewhat like the ship of the same name. I had the stuffed chicken and my boyfriend had the Elk. Both were delicious and perfectly cooked. We've never had Elk before and it wasn't "gamey" at all. It is from a farm however so it's diet might will likely be modified a bit from wild. Overall a really great experience and very nice hostess and staff. read more

We had a great dinner at Maple Leaf in Banff. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We started with cocktails, Hibiscus Gin Shrub and an Elderflower G&T. Both looked beautiful and tasted just as good. For appetizers, the steak tartare was fresh and flavorful. For mains, we had the gnocchi and sirloin steak. Both were well-prepared and delicious. The gnocchi had a great texture, and the steak was cooked perfectly. We also ordered a pretty expensive red wine that tasted great, but we would have loved to hear more about it from our server. Overall, a great spot for a nice meal in Banff. Would definitely come back. read more

My sister and I recently visited the Banff area. The Maple Leaf was recommended to us by a local tour guide. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We sat in the bar area by a window, it was comfortable and had nice view of the mountains. The food was the best. We had the halibut and it was cooked to perfection. The overall experience was extraordinary, we were even seated immediately after entering the restaurant. The decor was equally as impressive! The waiter was extremely professional and prompt. We didn't need to wait for refills and our food came out quickly also. Decent price for the amazing food, it was well worth the cost. read more

I loved this place. We had a big group and so we were able to sample a lot of the food. The prawns were the best appetizer; the crab cakes were almost pure crab and were pretty yummy, and the calamari was good too. I had the stuffed chicken entree and it was amazing. I would have liked a little more stuffing, but it was so good I cleaned my plate so I guess I can't complain too much. We had the chocolate soufflé and the creme brûlée trio for dessert: the soufflé was almost perfect (we had one eggy bite), and the Bailey's creme brûlée was the tastiest. read more

The ribs were decent, but nothing standout. On the positive side, our server was kind and attentive, and the restaurant had a pleasant, quiet atmosphere. Food was great but the server spilled oil behind me. I was talking with people at my table and didn't pay much attention to it. When I got up to leave, I put my jacket on and discovered it had oil all over it. I know accidents happen but she never said anything about the spill to me. read more

We had a delicious dinner. It was a nice atmosphere, with good service and interesting tasty cocktails. All around a good choice.

They are very rude people. They have very poor customer service. Not recommend at all. I wish I could leave 0 star.
