To me and hubs, life is all about balance- we can do farm-to-table, top-of-the-line meal, drink coconut water, get a freshly pressed green juice or down a great hot chocolate like it's going out of fashion. The same way we can go to the most remote place in the boondocks- like Hancock, NY by the Delaware River and settle for (almost) anything that's open. As far as breakfast or lunch (in our case) is concerned, Maple Room in Hancock made the cut. Not for their 'fine dining' ingredients- but really, as the ONLY thing that was actually operating on a desolate and late Tuesday morning. The Maple Room is Hancock House Hotel's bar on the left side and dining room to the right. We chose the first. It has an all-around counter, an 'internet jukebox' ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, booth seating and high-tops. We decided to pull-up at the bar. Seltzer in our drinks was fresh and so were the Fish & Chips basket my husband ordered and my Fried Fish Sandwich. Our server Sherry has been around a while- yet was quick. Maple Room feels dated. Let's start with the basket of chips, so good! Place is quant and quiet, I was there at an off time so there were only a handful of others there, which worked to my benefit. Reading other reviews I was not expecting quick service but I must say everything came in reasonable times.... Especially the chips. The chips were yummy. Burgers and prime rib sandwiches were great, should have gotten the chips instead of fries, fries were ok but chips were great. In case you haven't gotten the hint, order the chips with old bay seasoning. read more

Absolutely fantastic friendly service. Large dining room, plenty of space for covid distancing. My husband had the onions soup. Very rich, sherry taste, dark caramelized onions. He loved it! We tried the meatloaf and the prime rib - both specials that day. Meatloaf was moist, had brown gravy, carrots in it, and a heavy cinnamon taste. It was too sweet for me, but my husband LOVED it. )and the serving was giant.) The prime rib was a generous piece, cooked perfectly. The string beans were the star of the plate - cooked with garlic. Yum! The salted potatoes were great too. Def has lots of leftovers. PA the special that night was nachos. We didn't have them. But saw them for another table. Wow, just wow! Best battered French fries I ever had! Had the burger which was delicious and juicy. Ordered it rare and it came back medium but was otherwise really good so I didn't complain. My date got the soup special which was potato bacon and was also nice but could have used salt, but since that was also be added at the table, no big deal. In Hancock for a trip and we went into town for lunch and supplies. Decided The Maple Room looked good. We actually sat in the bar section which I believe is called Honest Eddie's, named after Hancock's famous baseball hall of famer. There were several booths, but we sat at the bar. On tap were several local brews as well as the expected domestics. I got a local light lager called Basecamp. I think we all ordered burgers of some sort which came with choice of battered or fresh cut fries. I got the fresh cut fries with my burger which I ordered medium with bacon, Swiss cheese and mushrooms. My burger was maybe a little closer to medium well, but it was fine. Definitely hit the spot and I liked the fresh cut fries. The bartender was pleasant and accommodating to our group of out of towners. She even brought me out a couple extra pickles when she overheard me ask my buddy if he was going to eat his. That was sweet. They have an in-house lottery/bingo thing that my buddy played and won a couple bucks. So, if in Hancock, this place is a solid bet for good food at fair prices. read more

I came here with my family for Father's Day, and had a great time. The staff was friendly and empathetic, and the food was pretty good. The only downside was the wait for the food, which was about an hour. I think most people likely order takeout from here. But, I'll definitely be returning and recommending it to friends. Found this place while we were driving across the scenic byway and was one of the only few places open on a Monday for lunch. We only grabbed an appetizer which was a special consisting of crab cakes. The crab cakes were excellent and cooked to perfection. We almost wanted to order another round however were constrained on time. Also had a couple of local brews which were great. The server (who was also manning the bar) was extremely courteous and the service was fantastic! Would definitely recommend this place if you're in the town, don't miss the crab cakes if they have them! read more

Let's do the time warp again! I felt like I had stepped back in time -- in a good way -- when I ate at this restaurant. The menu choices were classics, like hamburgers, meatloaf sandwich, BLT, open-faced turkey thanksgiving day sandwich, clam chowder ... My wife's BLT came with home-made potato chips and my opened-faced turkey thanksgiving day sandwich came on home-made bread and had a side of real cranberry sauce. The bill was a time warp, too. Only $18.00 or so, with coffee, plus tip. Only a couple of miles off the highway, this was worth a stop. read more

The Maple Room is a found gastro delight in a small town in the middle of nowhere but only 3 miles off Rt 17 North. We were hungry and decided to skip the Roscoe Diner in Roscoe NY, our regular stop. Passing Hancock we saw a sign for the "newly" remodeled hotel. The hotel us beautiful inside and nicely decorated. The restaurant is spacious and you can read a few very positive reviews on the hotel on Yelp. Being a Sunday nite we had the Place to our selves. The menu is pretty large and we settled in crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, and slow cooked pork shank oao bucco. Wow almost the best anytime or place and as Michelin might say, worth a special detour! read more

I don't think I've ever ordered anything here I didn't enjoy. The only thing that upsets me about this place is that unless you have more than 2-3 people dining with you, they place you in the booths in the bar. I personally do not enjoy being around alcohol or people drinking. Not that I have anything against it, I used to have a drink from time to time, it's just a very uncomfortable situation for me. A phi's or anxiety I guess. Plus they have a jukebox in there so normally you're listening to music people are drinking, would enjoy. I mean you can choose your own but there's usually already something playing when I arrive. The waiting staff is a bit slow but I think it's because they're having a hard time finding people that want to work. Sadly. Beautiful place though! And if you eat so much you need to lay down for a while, get a room upstairs! Lol oh yeah and if I had to request an appetizer I say try the shrimp cocktail YUM! read more

Outstanding meal!! The 10oz Flatiron Steaks were at least 12oz cooked and perfectly rare. The salad and vegs were as fresh as could be and delicious. The server was wonderful, the dining room beautifully renovated in a rustic Chic and elegant decor to compliment the historic Hotel it is in. It was immaculate and wonderful. If it was not 250 miles from home it would be my new favorite place to eat. The prices are very reasonable for the outstanding quality of food served. Little gem of a place. Dining room is charming, with a rustic appeal. I had the black and blue burger, it was huge. Wish the generous amount of blue cheese had been a bit melted, to stay on better, but a minor thing. The fries were amazing, downright crunchy! We stopped here on our way back home from Ithaca bc my sister was starving and boy should we have just kept driving. The service here is absolute trash. It took half an hour for our starter salads to come out and over an hour for our food to come out even though there were only three other tables that were occupied. So far, so great. Went for dinner on the first night of a new chef! Terrific. We had: pear salad---loved it. Fresh. Wonderful flavor combinations.
