I've only actually been once, but it was enough to make me swoon. I mean...I've been following them on social media for ages and have drooled over their photos, but now that I've been inside, yep, it's love. I love that just about everything in the shop is made in Canada, and there is so much love for local Nova Scotian artists too! I could have bought a car full of goodies - Rifle Paper Co journals? Adorable prints? Jewellery dishes shaped like woodland animals? And then the jewellery itself that is just so gorgeous, it's hard not to want a little bit of everything. The store is packed full of goodies in every space available, but it doesn't feel cramped or crowded. The set up is perfect for browsing in a crowd (even though I was there in the off-season). I can't say enough about this charming shop! I can't wait to go back.

After a…read moreday of shopping the south shore, inundated by stereotypical 'maritime' crap that I just can't get down with, I almost let out an audible cry of happiness when I walked into this brand new addition to the Lunenburg scene. The modern, open and bright space really let the products on the shelves shine rather than forcing customers into an awkward stumble through overpacked aisles of random nick-knacks. Within seconds of seeing all the inspiring and adorable prints, handmade pillows and stuffed toys, quirky greeting cards and stationery, and tons more, I knew I was in trouble. Much like a similar store in Halifax (Love, Me Boutique), I just wanted it all. And that's okay...because every purchase helps support a legitimate local artist or crafter which makes me feel MUCH better about gift-giving than just picking up your average mass-produced 'Authentic Nova Scotian' anything. Besides, there were so many great products available for less than $20 which makes it easy to do some damage without having to hate yourself for it later. I will absolutely be back. A beautiful little shop in a great little shopping area…read more It's a cozy spot filled with just about all the local Nova Scotian flavour you could hope for. Everything from birdhouses to geo-caching containers. It's got it all, something to bring home from your visit, or to add to your home. The prices are slightly touristy. The woman running the shop is delightful and was incredibly helpful. It's situated within an old container, which I think is just awesome. This shop, and all of the hidden gems on the wharf are a must see.

Yes, their wares can be pretty expensive, especially some of the beautiful wall art on display, but it reflects the effort, talent, time and money that goes in to producing handmade items on a small scale. And there are some lovely things here: jewellery, yarn, wood crafts, candles, treats, and of course the artwork. They have something for just about everyone on your gift list. Staff are friendly and helpful at both locations, and I don't think I've ever left empty-handed.

Small store in a nice…read moreplace The Sand Piper is a tiny, one room souvenir shop located right in the center of the village of St Martin. Obviously the location optimizes the amount of summer tourist traffic since many of the large tour buses from St John park right across the street from the Sand Piper. The one room is packed with stuff and I suspect the owners live upstairs in the quaint little house. The place is so small that much of the merchandise is placed outside in the nice weather. Much of the usual touristy stuff can be found here including jewelry, art, cute signs, books and of course the ubiquitous crummy t-shirts and other clothing. A few humorous items but nothing really in bad taste, this is one of the more artistic and enjoyable souvenir shop you will find. Most of the stuff is pretty cheap although some of the art and jewelry will set you back a few bucks. I ended up buying a couple of fun books on the local history and a nice crummy t-shirt. Yep, it's just a souvenir shop designed to catch the tourists visiting the area but it is a cool little place and it's difficult to walk out without finding at least something you will drag back home with you.

My…read morehusband and I first had a nice lunch by the water not far from the shop, then decided to see where the road took us. We came upon this little village area, and stopped at the small tourist center across the road from the shop. While there, I saw a wonderful children's book and asked the center representative if the author was local. He said she was and when I asked if they sold any of her books, he said the Sandpiper did. That was our next stop, and it was a little treasure. Yes, they could use more room, but the quaintness is one of the things that makes it unique. While looking at their items (and sure, some are "tourist" things, but many others represent the area locals) and if you're interested in children's books, be sure to check those sold here written by Heidi Jardine Stoddart. Each has a short message and signature written by the author, making them especially nice for a keepsake gift for a child. Heidi and her husband live in Rothesbay, NB. She is an elementary school teacher, and a talented artist who illustrates her own books. My great-nephew is getting two for Christmas this year! I'd return to this shop in a heartbeat, and wish we live closer to the area! It's beautiful there.

Lots of Canada and Nova Scotia souvenirs, local products and some clothing item that drew our attention. We liked a certain hoodie but wanted a different "graphic" emblazoned across the front (one that read "Digby: World Famous Scallopsl"). No problem; we waited about 15 minutes while our helper did a neat heat transfer. The result was exactly what we wanted. And the shop can take any size hoodie or sweatshirt you desire and put any graphic you prefer on it. It's a neat thing for families.

I can't believe I've never been here before because this is everything I want in an arts and crafts…read morestore. Not only does it carry gorgeous local art from some of my favourite artists, but they also do workshops and classes. I believe the post them on their website, but I heard there's a book binding one coming up that I would love to go to. When I went last weekend it was because I wanted to meet Amy of Friday55 (one of my favourite local artists) and I ended up learning how to do some embroidery while there. It was really lovely! The Lunenberg Makery was also there showing how to do felting, but I ran out of time to learn that one because I was loving embroidery so much. I think I've found a new favourite hobby. The Trainyard General Store is one of those stores that is completely community-oriented, and I adore it. It's a bit hidden on Portland Street, so a keep an eye out for the sandwich board pointing you in the right direction.
