Celebrated my parents' 59th anniversary here tonight at father's request, based on recommendation from my brother. It's located in the Lido Hotel which is nice. We arranged for a private room for our party of 10 which was very nice and away from the main dining room so it was nice and quiet. We had our own server for our party. The wait for our food was quite long, even after getting some starters. Regarding the food that I personally had, I'll share the good and bad. They claim their Wagyu burger won an award for Best Burger in Orange County and their fries won Best in the Country. I don't believe either of those claims. First of all, they can't even cook it right. My sister-in-law's burger, which she requested to be prepared well done, came out RARE! My burger, which I equestrians to be medium, came out rare to medium rare. She sent hers back but it came back barely medium rare. Still nowhere close to well done. I ate mine as is and while the flavor was ok, it was nothing special. I've had plenty of better burgers. My wife had the braised short ribs, which I tasted. Now that was delicious. I forgot to mention the starters they brought out. The best was the bread with the onion dip. I forgot what they called this dish. It was the highlight of the meal, in my opinion. There was another bread which was like a long pretzel bread that came with a special butter. This was also excellent. My Mom had the trout, which I tasted, but it wasn't anything special. A first-time client wanted to try this restaurant in Newport Beach. We were the first patrons to sit down in the restaurant section and had questions about the cocktail menu. When we asked the waiter what type of alcohol was mixed in the drinks, he didn't know and/or couldn't articulate it. About an hour and 20 minutes later, we finally received our food, albeit 4 of the 7 other tables that came in after us... were already eating and/or done with their meals. After one hour and 15 minutes of waiting, our waiter approached us and apologized for the delay - and informed us that we would be given a salad "on the house" as an apology. (I'm guessing the waiter forgot to put our order in; however, kinda hard to believe since we were the first and only patrons for about 15 to 20 minutes). The food portions were very small; however, they were delicious. We had the "spicy tuna toast" as an appetizer, and it was absolutely delicious! I had the herb-roasted chicken, which was amazing. My client had the pan-roasted scallops, risotto, and Pacific seafood chowder. Came here to celebrate Mother's Day with the family and paid $105.00 per person for the brunch buffet. Although the ambiance and staff were nice, the food itself didn't meet expectations considering the price. The entrees were the biggest disappointment. It was an odd selection of pre-selected meals. There was no cohesion to the menu. The flavoring was off and the unique "twists" for the dishes really didn't translate well. They looked pretty but we tried almost every option and no one liked or finished their meal. The buffet was average but even then, what was offered was nothing substantial and that's being kind. It was finger foods, continental type that again didn't seem to line up with the menu or price. There wasn't even any coffee or champagne offered. I took my wife here for mother's day and that turned out to be a mistake. Let me list why. This place pretty much extorts it's guests by wait until you are seated to tell you that you can only be in that section if you order from their criminally over priced $100 per guest menu. If you refuse to comply, they make you get up and do a walk of shame over to the other side of the restaurant that has been segregated for the regular (but still over priced) menu tables. On top of that, the service is some of the worst I have ever received. It took 20 minutes for a server to come over. When she did finally arrive, she didn't even know the menu. And even after ordering, the food took over an hour to arrive. We watched multiple tables that were seated way before us get their food. They can't even blame this on the order because we ordered the most simple items on the menu. A burger, some pancakes and a lobster role. All of which were mediocre at best. To top it off, the waitress was completely unapologetic and just had the air of someone who thinks they are too good for this job. (Miss, if you are reading this, please know that you definitely are not better than this job and life will soon teach you this lesson in the form of something much more harsh than a fumbled tip). Credit to the manager for finally stepping in and trying his best to salvage the day by comping our meal. But we will definitely not be coming back. read more

The service here was truly amazing. From the moment we sat down our server was personable and accommodating. We showed up on a Sunday and received the brunch menu. We came here because the burger was highly recommended so we kindly asked our server if there was any way we could get the burger even though it wasn't on the brunch menu. The server came back and said yes! Other than that, we did mimosas, we got tea in a kettle, bloody Mary's customized to taste. We came to lunch to catch up with family after 20 years not seeing each other and we stayed an hour past closing, the last ones in the restaurant (so sorry to be those people we didn't notice!) but not once did anyone rush us or tell us they were closed or we needed to leave. It was good, but not $32 good. I could imagine that I might pay $32 for a burger somewhere in LA, somewhere that is actually somewhere, like a legendary space (Polo Lounge, Beverly Hills), or filled with legendary people, or in a legendary location. But not here, in a Hyatt hotel, on the butt-end of Newport Harbor on a busy street corner, no view. Price to quality, I would have given this two stars, but I did add one star for good ambiance, and an excellent server. Visited 12/22/21. The location is inside the beautiful Lido House. When I walked in we were all taken aback until we realized the service staff (all genders) were wearing ULTRA tight nude pants and they were not in fact naked. It was very distracting. We thought some seams might rip. LOL That being said, our waitress was helpful and patient with our large group. She checked for me to see if there was any vegan options for breakfast. Alas I ordered fruit and avocado slices. The put an unknown oil on my avocado and some of fruit was improperly de-seeded, however fresh and a good portion. The avo toast looked good but I didn't order it. I detracted two stars because of the lack of vegan options and some of the menu items are not the same as described. One menu item was eggs and crème fresh with crispy root vegetables. It was straight up fingerling potatoes with scrambled eggs. Lol Also if it's a breakfast pizza, you should probably just call it that but you all do you with marketing.... Very clean, strict with masking, and the decor is interesting. Since I'm Vegan, I don't really know what to say positively about the menu. I loved the coffee and I'm glad you have Oatmilk. Came here on a whim. Had Rick as our server. Perhaps the friendliest and most engaging person we have ever met. Led us in the right directions on food. Got the caviar and French fries, Dungeness crab Benedict and the French toast. Everything was made in house from the bread in the French toast and Benedict to the fruit juices hand pressed. French toast was crispy and soft and sweet. Marscapone cheese and persimmons on the side. So great. The Benedict for me was spectacular. LOADED with crab and avocado. Perfectly cooked poached eggs. Runny yolk. Well spiced. The fries with caviar was an epiphany. So good. Their fries are made in a seven step process incredibly crispy and well seasoned. The star was Rick though. I was surprised to see an overall score of 3.5 stars for the Mayor's Table. Been here twice in less than a week and both visits were 5/5 ++. From the creative menu, to the quality of the ingredients, to the exceptional service and finally the ambience/decor - I must say it was nothing short of outstanding. The first time we came here was last Thu while on an overnight staycation in Newport. We had a late lunch at a seafood fast casual place in Lido Marina Village (which sadly was a disappointment) but thankfully, our light dinner at The Mayor's Table more than made up for the so-so experience at the other place. I should note what we really love about the service here. We like and appreciate how they have a primary server and an assistant server - that meant someone always attended to our table in an appropriate pace. Both were very knowledgeable of the menu and friendly. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names of the male & female servers from our first visit. We ordered 2 starters in place of entrées and an order of their fresh, warm bread which was served with olive oil. First, the hawaiian blue prawns with vanilla sea salt was ah-ma-zing!!! Delicate, tender and flavorful. Absolutely, a must order! The other plate was an arugula salad with grilled shishito peppers, grilled peaches, charred cashews and whipped goat cheese, a lovely dish with a delicious sherry gastrique that we truly enjoyed. So much so that we planned on coming back a few days later to celebrate my hubby's birthday. So the 2nd time was earlier this evening. They launched their new menu which meant the hawaiian blue prawns were off the table, lol. Our primary server was Breanna with Selena as the other one checking on us. Breanna's recommendations were on point. For this evening, they had a special - it was prawns served with a calabrian chili aioli that was fantastic!!! The prawns they serve here are so fresh and sweet, I would be interested in knowing where they source this from because it was different from what we've had at other restaurants. Hubby could not stop raving about the flavor of the aioli and Breanna was so gracious to give him an extra serving of it, so he can dip the warm, grilled bread. We also ordered their charred octopus which was beautifully plated over a carrot orange emulsion, lime ash and some creamy cilantro aioli. While their version was decent, the octopus itself wasn't as tender as what we've had in Miami. For our entrées, I couldn't decide between the cod and the scallops. Breanna told me she loved the black cod so I opted for the koji-marinated black cod which was just EXQUISITE! It felt like butter in my mouth and the koji marinade was soooo delicious & delightful. I told Breanna I will be dreaming of this dish for quite sometime, lol. Davide asked what the highlight of of the evening was, and it was absolutely the black cod followed closely by the prawns. Hubby could not decide between the veggie pasta and wagyu flat iron. He has not had red meat in a while, so he ended up going with the veggie pasta with squash & brussel sprouts which turned out to be an excellent choice. For his birthday, Breanna gave him an option to choose a dessert that he preferred, which was a nice gesture. He opted for the deconstructed cheese cake with berries which was wonderful. You can tell they put a premium on providing the best customer experience here. One request/suggestion though - the bread is good but it needs more than just the olive oil. It will be perfect with what was on the hawaiian blue prawns that had brown butter and vanilla sea salt. Wink, wink. Thank you Davide, Breanna, Selena, and to our 2 other servers last Thu. I am not a Burger Person' I've had burgers in my lifetime and really never had one that I'd cross the street to buy! But this burger was an experience to me...
