    il Mago sliders

By complete accident, this restaurant was the start of one of my favorite nights of my two and half week Italy trip. My friends and I took the metro to the Porta Genova stop because we heard this was the place to be at night. We realized a little late that we should get some dinner before any festivities began. We passed by the Meatball Family and felt like it was as good as any restaurant. The dishes here are all meatball based (as you may have deduced from the name of the restaurant). They take normal dishes and turn them into a type of meatball. I decided to try to the sliders, which were great. The meatballs were well seasoned and the entire slider was flavorful. Some of my friends got the spaghetti and meatballs (which was referred to as the American style) and they enjoyed it. Our time at Meatball Family ended with the bartender showing up and offering us free shots. Obviously, we agreed but hesitated when he saw that he put a glove on to prepare them. He made or group each a different shot, involving various ingredients like a habanero. We had an absolute blast (pun intended, because some of the shots were set on fire first). TL;DR - Food was great, service was great, drinks were flowing. Definitely recommend!

the place has a very modern feel and looks promising when you enter. It is a little confusing to order since you have many different options to order. Everything sounds good but the problem is the food does NOT deliver. The meatballs were bland and sauces werent great. The white bean meatball tasted like mush. Needed a lot of salt. The regular tomato sauce meatballs werent much better. I will admit the french fries were pretty good. I should have read reviews before coming. It looked promising but unfortunately missed the mark.

Located at the Milan Central Station (side where airport buses are), you can have a cappuccino and cornetto filled with what you want :-) This being said, depending on who is filling you may get more, none, less.... This is what brings it down a notch for me. The plain cornetto is very good and so is is the cappuccino. Don't forget, sitting down adds an extra 1 Euro to your tab ALL over Italy and Europe in general.

#22-2016: What a true disappointment!!! I have been dying to try this place for over a year now and I was super excited when my fellow yelpers opted for this location for a UYE. A party of 16 pretty much took the whole length of the front of the restaurant... let's just say we were super duper cozy... and yet one end didn't even realize there were others at the very opposite end. The staff is super friendly and busy but attentive to the initial needs. Management, however, should focus MUCH less on the profit and a whole lot more on the actual quality. Italians love food and if you specialize on something as common as meatballs (polpetta in italian) you better be serving some AWESOME slice of heaven... I opted to split an ECCEZIUNALE (apecialize sole of meatballs): 8 meatballs sampling from fish (2), veggie (2) and meat (3 red, 1 chicken). Some of the sauces were WAY too strong and run an unfair interference with the final taste. I am NO fan of cooked fish but those were by far the only 2 I would save out of the whole lot. The veggies, the eggplant and mint was surclassed by the strong provolone flavor. The other veggie was NOT impressive and rather bland. The original claimed to have FASSONA meat. Thank you for the impressive choice of ingredient but if it is not properly cooked it still is going to make me doubt... The worst???? The chicken that tasted like bacon with an horrendous curry sauce... Not to mention the fact that it took me almost 2 whole days to fully digest them meatballs... Why the 2 stars? Because of the "medium" beer... looked a lot more to me and for that price it was quite fair... However, having to fork almost 30€ to split a sample platter (25€), plus a beer (7€) 2 coffee and a dessert... thanks but NO thanks... Also, another sour note... WHY oh frigging why.. In the year 2016 can 16 people NOT split a check is beyond my comprehension.. and also illegal (if I remember correctly). So long meatball... you ain't part of my FAMILIA

Got a chance to meet the man behind this amazing fried chicken, he is so sweet and welcoming. Made us felt at home and made our visit so enjoyable. Thank you, Corey and Milan I am so jealous we don't have Corey's in the state.

The flavorful chicken recipe is consistent, juicy, & crispety crunchy every time. Their potato salad is better than most I've had even at the best BBQs (no onions!) or they offer the more popular, sweet potato fries or the lesser known baked beans. They also have what sounds like some delish desserts but we were too stuffed to try. I reiterate, I consider this tiny, unassuming, (clean) hole-in-the-wall a fast food joint...so you order at the counter, grab your tray, & see yourself to your table of choice either downstairs or up. They also have a short counter with stools at the window that seats 3-4 in case you want first row seating to hurried passersby or the occasional dog walker cleaning up. Oh, & there's air conditioning! Like real, good ol' 'Merican air conditionin's!!! Be aware of their non-American hours though, as they close for siesta in the early afternoon to reopen later for dinner service. What's more, their customer service is on par with their food! There's a small, young crew of locals (didn't meet actual Corey, who is apparently a real person from The South) that run & maintain the place. I mentioned it's fast food but only in menu not in prices. There will be no 5€ combo with fries & a drink. I understand it's an elevated version & I certainly appreciate it, but I'm skeptical of the locals making this concept a raging success as they're so used to cheap eats, especially at lunch time. On a last note, my friend & fellow USA expat would beat me with a chicken leg if I didn't mention their playlist. A variety of either old school hip hop or R&B...like, the real sh!t. I will definitely be returning to get my fingers & lips all greased up!

The people at Taglio offer a wide variety of specialty coffee from different origins and where one can select the method (V60, Aeropress etc). Execution is good but their own roast is good (don't get me wrong it totally beats anything else from Italy) but they also have coffee from other roasters. All together the coffee itself is a reason to visit but Taglio is so much more as they also serve excellent food. The pasta I had was a nice example of well-made uncomplicated food. They are also a deli so sell a lot of charcuteries and cheeses as well as other food items (tea, coffee, beverages, granola etc) The service was nice, friendly, mostly English speaking and fairly fast and they also have free wifi (however with mandatory facebook login) so a place I will visit again. Only minor drawback would be the price level - dinner easily came to €50 per head and while not super-expensive it is still a bit on the high side for more of a neighborhood place.

I try to be impartial in this review though, and review it just like any other burger place in any country (not as a burger place in MILAN, where I'd probably be more lenient). I came here for lunch and got the lunch menu, which is €10 for any burger (except the angus and another which I forget), fries, a drink, and a coffee. I would recommend that lunch is the best time to come for this reason, any other time of day a burger itself starts from €9 and a combo like that would be €15 and up. I got a cheese burger, and it was pretty amazing. They ask how you want your burger cooked, and you can see the chef cooking all the patties as well as toasting the buns right in the back. I got mine medium, and it was juicy and not too greasy. My only complaint is they might have overdid it on the ketchup on the burger. The fries I got were not as piping hot as I would have liked, but still SO good. After our meal, we had a choice of American coffee (a change of pace from the espresso shots that everyone takes here!) or an espresso. The ambiance is chill, and the decor is pretty trendy. Their logo with the woman in hoop earrings still makes me laugh. If any of you have been to New York's Shake Shack, their ordering system is the same, where they give you an electronic thing that vibrates once your order is ready. It was refreshing to have a solid American meal, and I would definitely be coming back to Mama Burger soon!
