I would highly recommend the Medicine Shop as the staff, no words can describe! They are so knowledgeable, caring and go out of their way to help you. My mom has been a patient of theirs for many years, and they have been so good to her! I love that they have local delivery so if we can't go down and pick up her prescriptions, then they deliver it right to her door... it's worth the delivery fee! Sometimes my mom's co-pay might be a little bit more going through the Medicine Shop versus Rite Aid, but we don't care... I moved to Orinda and was so happy that CVS wasn't my only option anymore. I have prescriptions that I pick up every month and even if it's every month like clockwork CVS would manage to mess it up at least 1 out of 3 times. I walked into Medicine Shoppe and was pleasantly surprised by the super chill and nice pharmacist. He was just friendly and everything was easy and super efficient. There's plenty of free parking lot parking and I was in and out in minutes. I won't go anywhere else if I can help it. read more

I feel like I've escaped the mess that is CVS Moraga and gone back in time to the days when a pharmacy truly met it's patient's needs! My Doctor is in Orinda too and I suddenly discovered that that everything works seamlessly with a single phone call or message thru their app or text. I no longer have the Rheem Moraga Pharmacist screwing up my scripts, putting holds and or cancelling them due to some unknown reason that the pharmacy doesn't even recall! Charging me 6x more than my insurance requires because they put it thru a Medicare part D that clearly has never been my drug insurance policy! To discover it on ringing out and then having to move to the other "issue" line to away resolution so I can get out with my pills! All my nightmares are over now that I've moved to The Medicine Shoppe. I don't pay more for all the extra service they give. No more going thru a long wait to speak to the Pharmacist. They anticipate what I want and take care of it. A total pleasure to engage with them, a huge change from the long lines and mess I always had at Rheem Moraga, once they closed the little CVS in Safeway shopping center. I have been a loyal customer to this Medicine Shop since they opened in 2000 and today I went in to pick up a prescription. I asked a question to the owner, "When did you get the Covid 19 vaccine in?" The owner blew up at me and started yelling at me for no reason. I asked him nicely, "I'm just curious, when did you get the vaccine in"? I had been asking them for months now about the vaccine and they kept telling me they weren't getting it in and then I found out they did and that's why I was asking. I couldn't believe how he was treating me. Yelling loudly so everyone in the store can hear and even people outside. I had already received my 2 vaccines and I told him I was just curious and he proceeded to yell at me and tell me I shouldn't even be asking if I already had been vaccinated. I am so sad for the way I was treated. I shouldn't have to cry and have feelings of stress when I go to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription. I wanted to be loyal to a mom and pops business but he was very obvious he didn't want me as a customer any longer. I will now have to go to CVS or Rite Aid. Maybe they will care more about their customers then the Medicine Shop in Orinda, California. I don't recommend it because of how they don't care about their customers and would rather you go somewhere else then to apologize for the outburst they just had with you. SHAME ON THEM!!! read more

I am a lifelong fan of this shop, the owners and staff and the services they provide. More than anything else, these guys go above and beyond to provide personal and excellent customer service, the likes of which I have never experienced in a pharmacy before. They get busy and bustling and still, I've never felt overlooked or unimportant. And the quality of care is most definitely old fashioned in the sense that they care about the individual customers with whom they develop relationships. They go the extra mile to make sure your needs are met if they can possibly meet them. Really, they have amazed me over the years at how much they want to help and do help. I'm very very grateful. Alan, Cathy & the staff really care about the well-being of their clients. After dealing with a major family illness, they truly were partners with us and our doctors in managing the many new medications prescribed. The customer service at this store is pretty amazing. My daughter really needed a medication same day, but they were out of the liquid version of it. Instead of making me call and drive around with a colicky 6 week old, they found it or the missing component at another store and sent someone to get it for me (on a Friday afternoon in early rush hour). I really appreciate that they are aware of what my insurance will or will not cover also. They actually called my doctors office and got them to write up a prescription again in an insurance friendly way. On the one occasion that I was prescribed a medication that wasn't covered, the pharmacist sat on the phone asking for managers with my insurance company and trying to get it covered for me (since there was no alternative to the medicine that was baby friendly). When he couldn't petition it through he told me how to go about appealing it. They are always really friendly and helpful as well. The pharmacist is very knowledgable and has been very helpful with any questions I have. read more

The Medicine Shoppe is by far the best pharmacy I have used for prescriptions and medical supplies. I used to live in Martinez but upon moving to Orinda, my neighbor recommended the Medicine Shoppe. Allen is the pharmacist and he is very knowledgeable and runs a top notch pharmacy with wonderful staff support. There is never more than a 5 minute wait to have a prescription filled and he greets regular customers by name! There is no comparison to the large chain pharmacies--easy parking, centrally located. If I could give more than 10 stars, I would. You won't be disappointed with the service you will receive at the Medicine Shoppe! read more

I had high hopes in relocating my prescriptions here but no browser will access their website, due to lack of security protocols so re-ordering appears to be a phone based process only. I also gave concrete instructions to not refill my prescriptions unless specifically ordered by me, as i am trying to synch them all up to being refilled at the same time, but that did not happen either. These are very nice people but i fear they may be managing too large a volume without proper support channels. So much of the time a pharmacist and their staff have to be on the phone managing Doctors and Insurance Companies that i sympathize with how they can get anything done. If i could re-order on the web, which is why i signed up here, i would be happier but since that isn't working right now that leaves phone or in-person and both of those are more prone towards error. read more

This is a pharmacy with an old fashioned feel...everyone who works there cares about the customer and really listens. Whenever I drop in to pick up a prescription---and I drive over from Berkeley because I feel the service is worth it---I hear Alan and his staff asking about how treatment is going for an ill or homebound relative or neighbor, what the grandkids are up to or trips folks have been on or providing input about product selections no matter how small or seemingly inconsequential. Its a refreshing change from the abrupt service you get in other pharmacies in the Bay Area. read more

Alan Wong is great. I had a prescription that the doctor called in at another pharmacy on a Friday. When I picked it up I found that it was missing an important applicator. The other pharmacy could do nothing until Monday at the earliest. I went to see Alan on Saturday morning. He dug through a bunch of boxes and found exactly what I needed! There is a difference between big chains and a local businessman who cares about the people in his community. Alan is the latter. read more

This is a small, family-owned pharmacy. They get the 'one-off's prescription-wise. These are not just the counting pills -they do compounding (mixing) and unique prescriptions. And they have to get paid for their work which means they spend a lot of time on the phone with insurance companies, much more that the CVSs and Walgreens. Yes, that shouldn't be our problem, but understanding that their job if not as easy as those at CVS could make you more patient. You want your prescriptions, they need to be paid. They do a great job and will go the extra mile for you (which could be 1-2 hrs on the phone with insurance companies). They may complain about this but they do it and they do it well. They spend extra time with customers. They understand what you need. They take the TIME. CVS and Walgreens do NOT. They'll tell you to talk with insurance or with your doctor. I like Medicine Shoppe and recommend them! read more
