Convenient kiosk ordering with self-assigned buzzers, and the wait was not too long for a busy Friday lunch hour. There was plenty of seating inside while we were there, but most orders were for pickup. Our burger was delicious and substantial, with crispy fried onions...and it really was the meltiest burger I've ever had. There was a pickle spear on the side, which was a nice unexpected surprise). We paid $12.92 for one melt Swiss mushroom burger. The only negative is the horrible parking situation, in the Whole Foods, CVS Villa La Jolla Dr shopping plaza....there's lots of inpatience and honking. read more

The Melt is a delicious all natural food and casual dining experience which I will visit again anytime I'm near one of their locations. The Meltburger was oh so tasty. From the top of their pillowy signature artisan bun to their spicy sauce and 1/3 lb angus/wagu beef patty with gooey cheese. It's a must try. The Steak and Cheese sandwich is packed with angus sirloin steak, provolone cheese, grilled onions and red peppers, jalapeños. Delicious! The side of garlic Parmesan fries are a tasty side. This place has definitely improved over the last few years in terms of food quality and its menu offerings. The Mushroom Swiss Burger was a thick patty that held together well, and the Garlic Parmesan Fries were not overwhelming in the garlic department. It sounds like the previous management staff really took my comments to heart. This time, the meal included a pickle spear and a side garden salad, which were both welcomed with open arms. In fact, a few veggies go well with greasy comfort food... The extra ranch dressing provided a great dipping sauce for both the fries and the salad. Overall, I would say that The Melt has melted my heart by accepting my constructive criticism and making things better for years to come. Extending the hours to after midnight has also been a huge step in terms of expanding options for late night comfort food in the UCSD area. Sorry but I have to keep it real. Staff were friendly and helpful. They cut the crispy chicken in half as requested with no complaints. That was nice of them. I didn't notice the flavoring on the sweet potato fries first visit but this time we did. You might want to confirm what they sprinkle in case of allergies or taste preferences. I'm calling it out because we recommended them last visit. Tastes good - but they are not plain so make sure to ask. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was delicious and pretty large but the sandwich completely fell apart quickly. More sauce was on the outside of the bun and wrapper than in the sandwich. I would pass on the Garlic Parm fries, they were a little greasy. Plain fries may have been better. The place was busy. One of the few spots in this area that stays open late (2am or 3am most days). They need to work on their cleanliness. The dining area was pretty messy, dirty tables, floors had food and napkins, bench I almost sat at was dirty. We were trying to find a good brunch area for a Sunday afternoon in the La Jolla area.. It turned out to be very tough with average wait times in other places being 2 hours long!!! We gave up and decided to drive back from the shores to this plaza as we remembered coming here in thd past. No regrets!!! Ordering was easy through the kiosk provided upon entering and seating was available to be chosen from. I like that there's extra chairs piled up on the side so if you need an extra chair, you can grab one. They come with a beeper after you order so it makes it easier when you need to pickup your food. There was a wait but I think the food was made fresh in house so there was nothing wrong with that. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed our experience here again because the classic grilled cheese was DELICIOUS and toasted perfectly. We shared that between the two of us while I got the Crispy Classic and the Sweet Potato fries (amazing, best sweet potato fries I've ever had. My girlfriend got the Meltburger and she enjoyed every single bite too. It was flavorful and had good sauce to keep it juicy. We were done with our meal and needless to say, such a big worth it meal for our time and when we wanted/needed food asap!!! I DO wish they fix the doorhinges though. Everytime someone walked out the doors, they squeaked extremely sharp and loudly so that made it quite annoying!!! I'm meaning this to be more of a compliment than a criticism, because service here has always been excellent. I've been here many times over a few years, but tonight the food was just off. It was way too salty across 2 burgers, fries, and the mac and cheese. 30 minutes later, my mouth is still feeling the over abundance of salt. The staff was cool and refunded my entire order. I came here because it was part of the Sky Miles Dining program and I was staying nearby. Was the burger good? yes Was it better than other burger joints? I will likely forget it when I go home Wasit worth $11? By Kentucky Standard no... but perhaps by California standards. This might be the first 5 I have ever given for a fast food restaurant. I wanted max protein and healthy as possible so I ordered the Classic Grilled Chicken Sandwich with cheddar cheese and I added tomato and I got the ranch dressing on the side. We used the kiosk to place our order which was easy and intuitive. The only change I would make to the kiosk ordering app is to be able to have the sauce that you want on the side. I had to order without any sauce then I asked for the ranch dressing when I picked up my order. 1. My sandwich had a decent size piece of chicken. 2. The chicken was tender with every bite. 3. Tasty combination of chicken, cheddar cheese, and a butter toasted potato bun. I was thoroughly enjoyed the entire sandwich. They have small cups for water which was perfect for us. I enjoyed the dill pickle spear. It was a nice thick spear that was fresh with great flavor. There was zero trace of food left on my tray. I enjoyed dipping my sandwich into the ranch dressing. I love how this restaurants hours are so flexible. If you're ever hungry at night and you're a UCSD student, it's pretty close to campus and convenient. My friends and I got a grilled cheese and a tomato soup, both were alright. The grilled cheese, had a lot of cheese. Almost too much. It felt very overloaded that I couldn't enjoy the bread with it. The bisque however was very creamy. It tasted very rich and was pretty solid. Eating them together balanced out making it fine, but honestly not the best I've had. It was pretty empty at night, so the wait time was not long, the lady at the register was really friendly, and was patient with us when asking questions and looking at the menu. We came here for a quick dinner and were happy with the quality of food we received for a fast casual restaurant! A step up from fast food but not considered a nice sit-down restaurant. You order at the counter and then get a buzzer which goes off when your order is ready. My husband and I both got the spicy mission burger. We thought it was really good with the combo of jalapeño, avocado, and pepperjack. However, we agreed that the special melt sauce didn't go very well with it and we wish that would've been served on the side. The burger didn't come with any sides, so you have to order fries or something else separately. We each got a milkshake and they were the perfect addition to our burgers! They gave me a burger melt and it tasted bland and had no flavor over than that green jalapeños which were just a weird addition cause they were supper crunchy. I would definitely recommend this. The cheeses are spectacularly gooey & flavorful. -Patty Melt ($11.49): I'm not sure that I would order this again. The meat patty (which is supposed to have wagyu) did not seem as fatty or moist as I would have expected. Maybe I should just try one of the burgers next time. -Cheddar bacon ranch fries ($5.99): This was a delicious treat with a generous helping of bacon crumble and melted cheese. I would definitely order again. -Tomato soup ($4.79): This was such a SMOL bowl of soup. It was so creamy and flavorful that I needed at least 4 times the portion size. I ordered the BBQ meltBurger but without BBQ sauce, which i do not recommend because the burger was definitely missing something. Overall I thought the quality of their food was just okay. I love a good burger and this place hit the spot. The MELT is located in the shops at La Jolla Village. During the weekends and in the evening, it can be tough to find a parking here. But it's worth it for a good burger. I visited on a Monday for lunch around 12pm and there was no problem finding parking or a seat. The Menu The melt offers a wide variety of burgers and other sandwiches as well as several options for Mac and Cheese. I went with a basic burger for my first visit with bacon and ranch fries. The burgers are the smash burger style. My burger was very tasty and full of flavor. The portion size was great. I had a single burger that I was barely able to finish. I think the double might have been too much for me. And I normally do get a double. My fries were perfectly cooked and also very good. Did not try any of the mac and cheese, but from the looks of what I saw other people around me eating...I'm definitely coming back! The Service My only comment about this place was the service. When you arrive there are 2 self-ordering stations. It was a little confusing figuring out how to order. I wanted to just go to the counter and order, but there was no one around to help. I showed up at opening. No one was around. I ordered at the kiosk. After a few minutes, I see an employee place an order on the counter and walk away. Grilled, toasty, and melty sandwiches pop into my head when I think about this spot. This is a casual place and I like to come here on weekends for lunch. I feel like the wait is a bit too long if you're having a short weekday work lunch, since their items are toasted well. I like coming here for the sandwiches, but I've tried many items from the menu.
