I had a pretty average dinner here with some friends. Since this is a chain, let me comment on this location first. The biggest issue was that the service was super slow. We waited for long periods of time between courses. Dishes weren't cleared, drinks weren't refilled, and we didn't even see our server for long periods of time. Other servers and the manager seemed to avoid us and we just didn't feel welcome. I'm not a big fan of the chain overall. It's not a lot of food and not great quality for what you pay. The fondue gimmick is fun, but you could certainly get a better meal somewhere else for cheaper. I loved this restaurant!!! The server (Kevin) was very friendly and attentive. We were able to ask for multiple servings of vegetables. Everything arrived in a timely manner. The food was good and there were plenty of choices. I was able to cook the fish to my specification. You can tell that this franchise puts a lot of effort into creating memorable dining experiences. The decor was really customized and there was a consistent aesthetic. There were even cute stuffed fondue pots and fondue pots on the sconces! Plus the server brought the dessert fondue with a congratulatory message as I had mentioned I was there for a promotion. Overall one of the most comfortable experiences I have had in a restaurant in a long time. The manager checked in on us a few times, in addition to our waitress, who was also very attentive and brought each course out at just the right time. The dining area is a bit TOO dimly lit for my liking, but it sets the stage for an intimate date or family gathering. We enjoyed all of our courses, and felt like there was a good portion for each. My family went in today to celebrate a birthday and we were excited to have some fondue. There was no one in the front, so we waited 15 minutes for someone to seat us. The cheese fondue was very runny and bland. Everything else tasted good. Service was incredibly slow. Our waitress would bring the next course and then disappear. She brought our chocolate fondues and then left again which required us to raise the heat on the two burners ourselves and they took along time to warm up. This experience is not worth $350 for a group of five. Sometimes servers can have an attitude when faced with an allergy or dietary restriction but he did not make me feel like a burden. He kept checking on us regularly and was very polite. We have a tradition of going to a Melting Pot for Valentine's day; this year our trip was a little delayed. It's a treat to us and something we look forward to. This experience, however, was not our favorite. We have been to a MA location multiple times and last year went to VA, but this year at Gaithersburg we were pretty disappointed. Granted, some changes might be company wide, but could also just be this restaurant. We did the four course, big night out meal. We started with the classic fondue cheese. It was pretty cheesy, which was nice, but was truly lacking in the sides. We just remember there being more options than bread, apples, carrots, and peppers. The peppers just did not work with this cheese. The salads were delicious as always, no complaints there. We went with the coq au vin for the meats and it was flavorful and glad we tried it, but it's not our favorite. The food was good; we were the ones cooking so we did it to our liking. The dessert was where we were disappointed. We did the peanut butter, and it just didn't seem like as much fondue as we used to get. The sides were also LACKING. There was ONE marshmallow so I let my husband have it. Where we have gone previously, there were at least 4 of everything. We distinctly remember there being a graham cracker marshmallow. None here. The variety was lacking. When our waitress dropped the dessert, my husband asked for another napkin and water. We waited about 10 minutes for the water and she disappeared before we were able to remind her of the napkin. We never saw her again. She dropped the check with the dessert, thankfully, but literally never came back to check on dessert or to take our card. I would wager to say we waited for 25 minutes before we finally had to approach the bartender to close out our check. Definitely not what we expect from a huge outing like this. The restaurant was clean and followed strict social distancing measures. Our waiter Randy explained the menu further. However IMO, Its very expensive for what you get. I would pass on the salads. I think it was bad communication from the host to our server because he didn't know we were sat and we waited honest to goodness 20 minutes to be greeted Once Jake greeted us he was wonderful. Pleasant, patient, and upbeat. He did explain everything to us like how the menu worked and types of sauces that accompanied our selections. The food was meh. The pacing of the meal was very slow. We got the Quattro formage (4 cheeses) that has pesto and something else mixed into it. But it was missing something. It needed something else flavor wise to really set it off but it was still good. I really enjoyed it dipped in apple. The salads were forgettable. The balsamic dressing had a strange consistency. Entreee wise we got the steak lover, shrimp, pork and more steak and cooked in mojo. The mojo was very orangey in flavor and I wouldn't get it again. My favorite was the shrimp and pork. A lot of the steak tasted too similar to really differentiate. We ended with the turtle chocolate which had pecans and was flambeed. My favorite accompaniments with that was the strawberry and banana. This was by far our worst trip to this location. We cancelled reservations at Ruth's Chris for this night and it was awful. Has management changed? We have been coming for over 10 years and tonight on my husband's birthday. First, walking in the hostess and host at the front were chatting and looking at their phones. The girl had a crop top on with a skirt. You could see her stomach sticking out. When escorted to our table the host tried to seat us at a small table. 2 adults and 2 teens. I asked him if we could sit at another table (like we usually do with that many) with 2 burners. He said no that was just for 5 tops. Not true we were ordering 2 sets of experiences so that wouldn't have worked. I told him the table with one burner was too small he didn't care. There was no room at the table for our coats (considering it was 18 degrees out). I walked up to the hostess who now had her mirrors out and was doing her makeup and asked if she could help hang my coat in the coat room. I pointed to the room that's always been the coat room and she said. "We don't put coats in there , it's for supplies." I asked if they had another coat area? No. I returned to our small table and my husband asked why we were seated there (he had gone straight to the restroom) I told him the host wouldn't let us sit at the 2 burner table even though I asked. Where were we supposed to put our coats???? He went back up to the front asked again if we could move to the two burner table with more room, reluctantly they sat us there. The host and hostess are unacceptable people for the front lines of a restaurant. Also to add our reservation had notes stating it was my husband's birthday. From then on one disappointment after another. Our waiter Ken was much more pleasant and friendly. The bar drinks took painstakingly long. These were the issues with our meal. Cheese - we asked for an extra portion of cheese (which we were going to pay for) never received it. -dippers were meh not so many items kind of like a kids portion. -the cheese tasted pretty good. -after the cheese was served my husband finally got his drink. Meal finished. Dessert being served finally my second drink came. I thought the manager forgot about it I just didn't want it to be on the bill. The bartender asked if I ordered it I said "yes 20 mins ago." He said "let me talk to the manager." I said, "I ordered it with the manager. We thought she forgot it." Who wants a vodka tonic with chocolate fondue? Dessert- -most items were FROZEN. Who wants to eat a frozen brownie dipped in chocolate?? -One star given because our server wasn't bad and made my husband a plate with happy birthday on it which was a nice touch but the brownie was in fact frozen. My husband was very disappointed and said we should have gone to Ruth's Chris. A complete let down. We've met the owner of this place a few times before, but after our experience it must have been rebought by someone else because he would have never let a dinner like that happen. A group of friends and I went to the Melting Pot to celebrate a birthday on Saturday, June 17th, 2023. I have been to other Melting Pot locations dozens of times and have always had a great time - even if service is a tad slow. This time, We arrived on time for our 6:30 reservation and were seated immediately. Things started to go downhill from there. We were seated in a booth in a back corner. Okay, no problem. The restaurant was busy (it was the night before Father's day) but not PACKED. Our waiter (who I will note was very kind and tried very hard despite the circumstances) didn't show up for awhile. No problem. We're an easy group, which is something we were thanked for several times throughout the evening, which didn't make us feel better about our prolonged meal that wound up taking over four hours from start to finish. We started with a cheese course and ordered the fiesta and alpine. The alpine was exceptional, and we wolfed it down quickly. The burner that the fiesta was on, however, started to malfunction, and we had to remind our server and others who walked by several times throughout the night to come check it. The fiesta was fine, but not as good as it has been in the past. After another long wait, a few of us ordered salads, while others ordered drinks. Both took quite awhile to come out, but we didn't necessarily mind. We were chatting and having a good time. At one point, we tried to order our next course (the entrees) and our server started to take our order, then excused himself as "his other tables were in a bad spot." Not sure what that means, but again, we're amenable. About ten or so minutes later, we finally got to put in our orders for our entree round. Keep in mind that at the Melting Pot, entrees consist of raw meat and veggies that you then cook in a chosen broth. None of us had special orders or anything. At 7:56 I called one of my friends, as I had lost our table on the way back from the bathroom (embarrassing, I know, but this is why I have a timestamp). When we sat back down was when the waiter took our order. Our plates of raw meat did not come out until 8:56, exactly one hour from when our orders were taken, and only because I found a senior server or manager and asked if we could have an update. An hour. For raw meat. It's also worth noting that during that hour, someone came by with the broths for our fondue, and we noticed again that one of the burners wasn't working. Despite asking several times, this was not corrected until after the food arrived, and still never felt hot enough. The burner that was hot, however, boiled down most of the broth because it was left on for far longer than intended. I don't think the meat course is necessarily worth it at the Melting Pot (I always just come for cheese and chocolate), and it was definitely not worth an hour wait (+ extra time spent waiting for one of our pots to work). It again took a long time for someone to come around to take our order. During this time, we realized that there are no windows or clocks anywhere in the dining room, and we started to feel like we were trapped in a casino-like purgatory of our own design. When the chocolate course was finally ordered and arrived, it was nearing 10 PM. The second burner, on which our s'mores chocolate was placed, still never got hot enough. A friend and I also ordered dessert drinks in this time (the Yin Yang Martini) and were not impressed. Tasted like a bland Frappuccino - looked pretty though. Overall, the chocolate was tasty, but the portions of dippings were not as generous as they had been in the past. I will also note the waiter provided a candle and a cute drawing of a cake in the chocolate, which was a nice touch. He was really trying, and I think the restaurant was just so understaffed that all of the servers were just slowly losing their minds. By the time we got ready to leave, it was 10:30 PM. Again, our dinner started at 6:30. We had plans to go out after our meal, but were all too tired after the ordeal, so it put a serious damper on the night - and my friend's birthday. I think we all expected the Melting Pot to take longer than a regular meal, but, like, not that long. Overall, this experience was really disappointing and frustrating. I really hope it was just this location, as I'd hate to never return to the Melting Pot. We love fondue, and all of our food was still pretty good despite the wait-times and low temperatures. Well this location is not what it use to be. We use to go here for special occasions once or twice a year and really enjoyed it. This last experience was not very good for several reasons: 1) Super crowded and slow service 2) Food portions were smaller than they were in the past 3) Food didn't taste as good 4) Server wasn't very engaged with us and we had ask for them a few times. 5) And the icing on the cake? Undocumented up charges on our entrees My biggest complaint was that there was $5 extra added to each of our entrees on the bill. When I got the bill, I compared the prices on the bill to the menu online and saw the upcharge. When I questioned the server, they said there was no upcharge - that's the price on the menu. So I asked for a menu. They brought it to me and I showed where we were up charged. She then got the manager, who tried to say it was some random Montgomery charge and was itemized on the bill, which it was not. It was a pure up charge on each entrée at the table. They tried to suggest several reasons for it, but I kept saying there was nothing documented on the menu or on the bill to indicate said charge. The manager and the server disappeared and brought me a revised bill with the $15 removed and coupons for future visits, with basically no explanation as to why we were randomly charged an additional $15. I personally find this aspect of the visit completely unacceptable. IF they have a COVID up charge, like some places do, to cover extra costs, then just line item it on the bill. I get it, and I wouldn't mind paying it. But they sneakily added it to EACH entre at our table and then NO ONE could articulately explain what the charge was for. We left thinking that it was a deceptive scam to just add on to customer's bills. They gave us no other explanation and didn't seem particularly upset about it, except the fact that we caught them at it and they couldn't explain it. So it just as mysteriously was removed from the bill. We won't be going back. But my advice to management going forward. If you choose to add a SURCHARGE or increase prices. Then just post a sign, put it on the menu, put it as a line item on the bill. ANY form of documentation to explain it and communicate with your staff so they can get their stories straight! The Quattro Formaggio had a smooth balance among cheese, wine and pesto, which was great for both bread and apples. The House and Caprese salads had wide variety of ingredients as usual. The Coq Au Vin cooking style base enriched the seasonings into red wine. The Premium Filet Mignon, Teriyaki-Marinated Steak, Herb-Crusted Chicken Breast, Atlantic Salmon, and Shrimp were all great to cook on. We were not a fan of Wild Mushroom Pasta into fondue. The Flaming Turtle was truly a signature item for desserts. We enjoyed fire flame as served, and took video while it was going on. Both fruits and sweets were fun to be dipped and bite on. This review is specifically for their takeout fondue that they've been offering during the pandemic. I've been a customer for decades now (I swear I'm not that old!) and had really been missing their cheese fondue during covid. Luckily the Gaithersburg location offers takeout! It's not the same as the in person experience but it beats nothing! HOURS AND ORDERING If you're ordering takeout pay attention to the times! Your best bet is to call the restaurant directly. I ordered on a Saturday evening (this was in January when indoor dining was shut down) and thought they were open until 10pm because that's what the website said. The takeout menu section of the website says it's available from 4-close. I guess they're not updating their hours on the website as restaurant regulations with covid keep changing. Anyways! I go to order online at 5:50 and get an error message that I can't order because they're closing at 6pm. That wasn't anywhere on the website! I called them directly and the employee was incredibly nice. He said absolutely no problem and took my order. He was incredibly accommodating. He called us about 15 minutes later to let us know we could come in and pick up the order (since they had locked up). A+ for customer service! We also got a $10 off coupon to use in the restaurant once they reopen for in person dining. Nice surprise! We look forward to using it once things return to normal (or at least semi-normal!) FOOD Takeout options are limited to cheese fondue, salads, and chocolate fondue. We ordered the cheese fondue and a salad. I love their house dressing (if you're reading this Melting Pot, please sell this liquid gold on your website like you do with the seasoning!) The salad was noticeably smaller compared to the pre-covid era. I have gotten their salads to go in the past (it's a darn good salad!) so I know the typical size. This was sadly smaller. Tear. Still a great salad for $5.75. Now for the cheese fondue. We went with our usual Classic Alpine. It's $24 and served with bread and a variety of veggies and apples just like the in person dining experience. It comes already prepared in a takeout soup container. All you have to do is heat it up which you can either do on your stovetop or in the microwave. They provide instructions which is a nice touch. It was good, not as good as in the restaurant, but still good. Their takeout menu says it "serves up to 2" but absolutely not. Again, it's not the same serving size you get when dining in at the restaurant (that size does serve 2 people if not more). They didn't skimp on the dippers. Those were plentiful. The amount of cheese was about the equivalent of a cup of soup. so closer to serving one person. Luckily we ordered two orders of the cheese fondue, otherwise we would have been fighting over it. Not exactly $24 worth but hey I'll take it until I can get my in person fondue fix. OVERALL I'm super thankful that the Melting Pot figured out a way to do takeout during the pandemic. It's expensive but it's also not the kind of meal you order every week for takeout which makes the price a bit more acceptable. Came here for a date night with a lady friend. We've both been here before but it had been a long time. I called ahead and made reservations. It was raining really hard but we managed to make it in time. The host was really nice and greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave the reservation name. We had a 5 minute wait, then we were seated. Our sever was very nice and attentive, checking in on us from time to time. She also give us her personal recommendations at my request. Once we were seated we both ordered drinks and they were tasty and a bit strong. So we liked that. We really enjoyed our "Big Night Out" selection. It was a successful date night and the ambiance of the lights and high walls gives you enough privacy to enjoy yourself but enough atmospheric noise to feel homey. Thursdays is officially date night with rose petals if you want a little razzle dazzle hope this was helpful for someone! We ended the night with the Flaming Turtle fondue and it was great, very yummy indeed. read more

I've been to this melting pot several times as a teenager and I finally brought my friend here for the first time as a grown adult! It was her first melting pot experience and her birthday celebration! Our waitress, Alexis was AMAZING! She truly made our night great! There were some other waiters and waitresses around that would have dampened our day if they were assigned to our table so we are very grateful for Alexis!! Thanks girl! She was so professional and explained everything so well! She had the best upbeat attitude! We ordered the Wisconsin cheese, caprese salad, shrimp, salmon, and mushroom ravioli! For dessert we ordered the hazelnut chocolate! Everything tasted soooo good! We originally went to the Melting Pot in Columbia, MD but left due to availability and drove to Gaithersburg (since they have better reviews anyway)! Worth the drive! The Melting Pot - Fondue Near Me - Gaithersburg, Maryland

This was my second time going to The Melting Pot since one, it had been years since I've been last, and two, it's usually pretty pricey that in order to warrant a trip there, there has to be some sort of special occasion. Well, there wasn't really any special occasion, but I had received an email promo featuring a "double date night deal". It was $68 for the first couple, and the second couple ate free. For that price, how could you pass that up?! It was a three course meal: the cheese fondue, salad, and entree of meats and pasta. We chose the quattro formagio for our cheese, which was a great choice by the way. It came with a platter of various breads, veggies, and fruits. We all chose different salads--California and Caprese were the two favorites. And the meat/pasta selection was already pre-selected, but that's okay because it was all really fantastic. Our cooking style of choice was "Mojo", which was a delicious fragrant broth--very similar to hot pot it seemed. One of my friends ordered the sangria, which he didn't really like because it was overwhelmingly sweet. For someone who loves moscato and dessert wine, that means something. My other friend and I ordered the classic wine flight (3 oz pours for each course including dessert, so 4 pours total). Honestly, it was SO worth it. Whoever was pouring our drinks definitely poured a little more than just 3 oz each...we approve ;) My boyfriend chose a merlot which he enjoyed as well. For drinks, I definitely recommend choosing from the wine list and maybe erring from the sangria. We also added dessert--the chocolate fondue--to our course separately. We chose the Flaming Turtle, which was the perfect amount of sweetness and show. It came with an assortment of cakes, brownies, marshmallow, and fruits. What stood out the most wasn't the food to be completely honest. What really stood out was the service. We had Rich as our waiter and he went above and beyond for all of us. Not only was he super accommodating, but his personality, enthusiasm, and attention to detail made ALL the difference. I honestly believe our dining experience was spectacular because of him. Additionally, a young lady (which I believe may have been the general manager) came by our table toward the end of our meal to check up on us. Again, a small but powerful gesture to show that you care. Great customer service really goes a long way. If I were to go to Melting Pot again for an occasion, I will most definitely come back to this location in Gaithersburg. Best fondue experience yet! :) read more
