By morning I mean when I finally got out of bed at 1 pm all jet lagged and starving. We went around the area a bit looking for some breakfast type food, which is as close to impossible as you can get if you're American. Breakfast in France is very different. We just really needed a solid meal. One that, apparently, only an Irish pub could understand. When we first walked by we were like "haha let's get breakfast at the pub". I looked at the menu and saw "English breakfast". I had a vague idea of what it was but I wasn't sure if I could handle the pub atmosphere at that moment. We kept walking. 5 minutes later, we're like "English breakfast". We were so hungry and it was right there and we could tell that the odds of finding anything other than a pastry was very little. I cannot even begin to tell you how glad I am that we did that. We found a perfect table outside, practically on the sidewalk, where we can eat and people watch. The waiter was great, he spoke very good English. He was really quick to take care of whatever we needed. The English breakfast was amazing. It had 2 eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, blood sausage, mushrooms, toast and beans. I was staying in Toulouse for a week. After a few days of the usual french breakfast of a pastry and coffee, I started fantasizing about the English breakfast.... One day I waited until they opened. The yelp page says they open at 10 AM but I didn't see anyone there until the afternoon. Finally, they were open! I went in and ordered my English breakfast and the girl behind the bar tells me they only serve it on the weekends. =-( I dried my tears and looked over the menu to see what else I might like. Fish n chips. Ok, there's no way it could possibly be better than the English breakfast. But, it could possibly be the best fish n chips I ever had. As a matter of fact, it absolutely without a doubt, was the best fish n chips I ever had. This story does have a happy ending. On our last day in Toulouse we got the English breakfast again. It was just as good as the first time. Highly recommend!

In fact I did this for a few months, and was pleased to finally find a bar this good on my doorstep. Laid back atmosphere, from the seating to the lighting to the clientelle, it's always quite full, but still chilled. It's table service, of course, and can sometimes be a little bit difficult to get served if you're English and want more than 1 drink every 2 hours. Or you can get into the French way of thinking...! Anyway - don't miss it if you're in Toulouse.

Very popular with the Airbus people to whom it is almost a "local" in the English sense of that word, and many UK ex-pats looking for a "pub". Like the famous "Curate's Egg" the Heidelberg, more often referred to as The Taverne, is good in parts. Good points. Good Food, plenty of sitting out space, pretty and friendly barmaids, good variety of drinks, especially the Lagers and White Beers and the Wines. Bad points Can be overcrowded, doesn't open Saturdays or Sundays, very poor toilet facilities for a place that provides serious food, and could do with redecoration. Can get very crowded and far too noisy with over-loud music or TV and you can't hear yourself drink or talk to the people you are with. To any ex-pat Brit I say give the Taverne at least one visit as it is part of the Blagnac scene and if you yearn for a busy UK pub this is as close as you will get. If like me you prefer a nice quiet bar to relax and enjoy your drink then walk on by and use one of the many other excellent Bars further up in Blagnac.
