A delightful and unexpected find in the heart of Medicine Hat! We drove to the area to find the Japanese restaurant we were seeking was closed for a family event. Fortunately, we'd walked past the Mexican Hat on the way, and decided to give it a go. What a great, welcoming staff and a very good chef. Our foursome ordered tacos al pastor, veggie tacos, and tacos alahombre. Each was served street-style, with great corn tortillas. Ordered beans and rice on the side..also excellent, along with the salsa bar! Atmosphere was perfect...earthy Mexican diner style and reasonable prices! We really enjoyed chatting with the staff. The macho burger, I must admit, I felt guilty ordering a burger from an authentic Mexican restaurant but man am I glad I did. this is the best burger I've had in the Hat in a very long time, the bun was exceptional and the ingredients all blended together the way they should to make me feel not bad about ordering it at all, I highly recommend and the service was timely and efficient, will definitely crave this again. read more

Ordered here once and was not impressed. The tacos had flavor, but there was zero extras with it. Just the meat and the sauce it was cooked in. I expected some vegetables, tortilla pieces or something. I will say however that the tortilla soup was delicious, but they have since taken off the menu. Also, I ordered pickup, they forgot the soup and I didn't realize until I got home across town and drove back another 20-30 minute round trip to pick it up. read more

I had a return visit to this delicious restaurant that I had been to last year when I was in this part of town . I purposely searched it out as I remembered how good the food and atmosphere and people were. Let me jump right in to my recent visit. So a warm, easy going atmosphere very simple and clean. Immediate acknowledgement of me by a lovely woman who took care of me from my order , to serving me and a ?? Genuine follow up on how everything was. DELICIOUS with a smile. Service top notch ( clearing away finished plates - I personally Love that attentiveness) Folks this food is quality, so well prepared and delicious. You can sense the care and pride of a family owned and served business. Simple but satisfying choices in a menu and now the good part ... really affordable pricing $15.00 for good portions of 3 enchiladas with rice and a side of hot sauce. I am going back way more often ! A real off the path gem you have here in MH. The Mexican Hat has absolutely delicious tacos. When I was there they had a sample platter of 3 different types of tacos which was awesome to try them all. The prices were very affordable. The woman who owns it was incredibly kind and offered great service, it felt like being in a family member's home kitchen. The only reason this review isn't 5 stars is because they ran out of the complimentary tortilla chips for their salsa bar while we were there! I would definitely recommend going. read more
