I have never been here and heard the rooftop views are nice, we went during the day but I bet nighttime is really exceptional. We went on a Sunday at noon and it was really empty which is fine. We had a round of drinks and a couple appetizers. Took a very long time to get drinks which was odd because it was empty. Lamb meatballs were rather bland and not warm when they came out. Brisket sliders were pretty good. The view is nice but the food and service was lacking today.
Monarch Club is really an experience everyone should try at least once. It's elegant, it's beautiful, the views from the porch are nothing short of spectacular. While the food and drinks are not especially unique or special on its own, they are all good and the service 99% of the time is excellent. Sitting on top of the Element hotel right smack in downtown, this is great spot before and after any of the games or concerts as they are stones throw from the Fox, Comerica, Ford Field and a few minutes from LCA.

The balcony was close closed with no service due to weather but our waiter did come out after we stayed out for a while 10/10. There was nice city views , a fireplace and cut views. We had the lamb chop meatballs which were amazing 10/. 10,and truffle fries 10/10. I had the michigan made old fashioned made with 100% Michigan made ingredients 10/10.
Gorgeous rooftop bar! The views are incredible! They have indoor seating too but I am thrilled that we were outside to enjoy the beautiful city views. Located in the Metropolitan Building, take the elevator to the Penthouse. Reservations recommended. I really enjoyed my Tainted Love cocktail. The food is delicious! We had sliders, fries, and prosciutto and pear flatbread. Excellent service. You can't beat these views! You can see Comerica Park, Ford Field, Fox Theater, the Fillmore, and so many other historical buildings.
Great atmosphere! Sat at the bar and had great and efficient service by the bartenders! They have a zero-proof menu which was cool! I highly recommend this spot for a more intimate setting in Detroit!
The cocktails were ok at best but the price was insane. $20-$25 per drink to be ok is not what I'm looking for. We ordered the white fish dip and it was basically tuna. Stay away from the food and drinks. Basically just stay away. The view was awesome but the outside balcony was closed. The main attraction of this place was closed. Bottom line, go somewhere else.
Great spot for city views and cocktails! The fries are delicious too! Make sure to grab a reservation. Great for a hals might out of date night.

It is reservation only however, The poor servers are running ragged outside with essentially no assistance from Anyone. They are hustling back and forth, and you'll be lucky to get in and out in less than an hour and a half at least. Our server was so friendly, but I could tell She was in the weeds. The drinks were tasty.
All right, all right, I'll rereview the Monarch Club five years later, after saying I'd never return in July 2019. We went out to Detroit last night for a friend's birthday and his wife had booked us reservations here for after-dinner drinks. We arrived on time for our reservation and took the elevator up, they put us at a small indoor table which is what happened to me last time too, but it turned out to be more of a holding table. We were there for about 10 minutes maybe and then got to go outside. It was a 70° night in October which was pretty nice. Some of the tables outside have regular chairs and some have Adirondack chairs, we had the Adirondack chairs and they were very comfortable. Drinks were good albeit pricey, about $20 each. Waitstaff was friendly but a bit slow, otherwise this review might have been four out of five stars. One kind of random, nice thing that happened: a waitress came around asking if our group likes whiskey, I believe it was, and gave us two free glasses - I guess what happened is people had ordered them and then left before they showed up. The whiskey was a little watery but you can't complain about free alcohol. The views here are amazing, of course, I'm just not sure if they're worth $20 a drink. Overall I did have a much better experience here versus last time, and because of that I would consider going back at some point.

The experience in the Monarch Club is exceptional. We have been here numerous times. The venue has an upscale, classy vibe and the interior lounge is furnished with really nice appointments. Beyond the interior is their rooftop patio which allows for cocktails and small plates during good weather. The outdoor patio provides multiple views of the Detroit skylines in different directions. Service is always exceptional and this time was no exception. We sat at the bar and Colby and Mike entertained and took great care of us. We were going to a show at LCA, so wanted to eat light, we had a small plate called "Feta in Pergatory", Baked Feta Cheese, Tomatoes, Olives and Capers, served with baked Crostini. It was fresh, flavorful and really good. You definitely should make reservations if you plan to check it out, as it gets busy fast. read more

Gregory was very knowledgeable about Detroit and super friendly. He was the best server you could get! The drinks and food were absolutely lovely too. Plus, the views are sublime. It is perfect for a night out with friends or date night. You have to get a sunset picture while there!! read more

I wish I had enjoyed Monarch Club more, because it's absolutely beautiful and the outside patios have stunning views. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. My wife and I were coming in to celebrate a special occasion, so I wanted to make sure we had views. I contacted them on Instagram and they suggested I book the "inside tower" as that's the area that has views of downtown, so I did... when we arrived only 4 days later, there was some sort of corporate party in the inside tower, so we had to sit in the bar area, which has no views. Did they not know they were hosting this corporate party only 4 days prior? I felt very misled, and I probably would've booked somewhere else if I knew we'd be stuck in the bar area (which admittedly is nice, just not what I booked or what we were looking for). The servers were also very slow despite it not being very busy at all in the bar area -- I'm guessing most of their attention was going towards the aforementioned company party. Cocktails were average. The charcuterie board we ordered to go along with it was good, but a bit on the small side for the price. I'd probably only come back here for a drink during warmer months, when their patios are comfortable enough to hang out. read more
We stopped here before the Tigers game. This was my first time here. Wow!! What an amazing location! The view is AMAZING! We could see the ball park from our seats. We didn't eat but the drinks were superb. The waitress was very busy. But she was smiling and attentive. This has to be gorgeous at night! We will definitely be back!! read more
We came for a birthday celebration. I recommend making reservations in advance. Valet parking is a must and pretty reasonable at $21. We ordered crab cakes, truffle fries and the charcuterie board with 4 signature cocktails. It's a great vibe with a hip and trendy crowd. The view was incredible, can't wait to go back. read more
The views are amazing. The prices are high, which is fine but the charcuterie board actually needs some meat on it. Like maybe an ounce of meat. Some Colby Jack cheese cubes. It is filled with pickles and crackers. For $32 it's a bit much. Just saying. Service was great. read more

I'm not totally sure about this place - it has a lot going for it, including great views of the city. However, it felt a little pretentious and that's just not my scene. On this particular night, our group of 5 was looking for drinks and dessert. I tried the Fall into Kochi cocktail, which I enjoyed. For dessert, they only had one?? Very strange to not have a few options to choose from. But we ordered 2 to split and ended fighting over the last bite. A delicious concoction of a chocolate shell filled with mousse, plus raspberry sauce and fresh strawberries! A little pricey, but on par and on brand for a snobby rooftop bar. Overall, even though I didn't like the vibe, we still had a relatively good experience. read more
I loved this place and the views over the city was just amazing! We had drinks up there after tigers opening day and it was definitely worth it. The drinks are a little pricey but they don't shy away from a good pour. They have premium liquors too. The service was really good as well. Definitely going back as I'll be staying at the Element for the draft! read more
Doris approved 4.5 Super pretentious. Daniel asked if I was leaving with my drink. I wasn't. My girlfriend and I spent maybe $250 so I just felt like, hey we spent money here. We had an amazing time. I'm not going to leave with my drink. Whatever. Just dampened the mood. Give a girl some grace! Granted we were having a girls night. Ha! ANYWAYS the place is just a must see. In the Summer/Fall with the roof top open and the fireplaces on (honestly I cannot recall for the winter if the roof is open- I think it is) The drink are outstanding the service is just fantastic. The views are unbeatable. Really this is a must visit if in Detroit! The food is OK nothing to write home about. I wasn't impressed last time I went. So hit or miss for me. To get here. You need to go into the hotel, up the elevator, to the pent house. Bingo you are here! You 100% need a reservation. I wouldn't come dressed down. I would be business casual or dressed up. This is pricey. Parking is street or lots. Walking distance to tons! Right off Woodward. read more

Having the rooftop Monarch Club with panoramic city views was a nice in house option at the Element, but it is only open at the end of the week and closes at 11pm. I went there one night for a drink and snack, and noticed they had charged me 30% MORE for my VSOP cognac than the price listed on the menu. Once I told the waitress, they corrected it, but make sure you double check you bill before paying for your drinks. The lamb meatballs were a bit dry and dense, but nicely seasoned, and definitely a large enough portion to share. It's a hearty enough appetizer to make a meal if you did not get a chance to eat dinner elsewhere. read more
The Monarch Club is inside this hotel and it on the top floor and has a rooftop with an amazing view. I went with my friends for a book club meeting lol. We went for the drinks but we got hungry and tried to the food and wow Devine! Literally so good we got the flatbread and the truffle fries are literal crack says my friends. The drink I tried was dreamiscle and it was just the right amount of sweet. If I go next time I would get truffle fries and try strawberry fields. The ambience is very fancy and overall the service was amazing. We got fun pictures. Great girls day read more
Came here for pre-dinner drinks for our anniversary. I made this reservation a few weeks in advance. I had reserved the upper tower but we weren't seated there (the upper area was closed). I've been to Monarch before and loved it the first time and this time didn't disappoint either. It's located in the Penthouse of the Element hotel right downtown. Because there was a Tigers game, and two concerts happening that night it was an absolute cluster getting down there and finding reasonably priced parking. We ended up parking in the garage off Griswold and walking because the usual lots were way too expensive because of said events. So keep that in mind! We ordered a few drinks and some appetizers. Over all everything was pretty good and our server was attentive and very nice. Their food menu is small and not super vegetarian friendly but since we were just getting apps it wasn't a huge deal. The space is gorgeous though and if you come during a night it's not raining their outdoor patio space has fireplaces and a gorgeous view of Detroit! read more

Beautiful place. Nothing else like it in Detroit. Drinks were amazing and STRONG. I would come back for drinks, but our food wasn't great. The pear and sausage flatbread was very dry with seemingly no sauce and pretty flavorless. Loved the Mr & Mrs Spritz drink read more
