Everyone seemed like they were in a great mood, and this was a great spot to kick off my trip to Detroit. I went with the Cigar City Brewing Co IPA and it was crisp and delicious! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside of the club was nice, but only complaint was they could do with more ambiance/dimmed lighting. We attended a birthday party for friends. They reserved the front side of the facility. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The view was the only positive aspect of the evening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The valet was overwhelmed and under staffed. We ended up parking in the Z Lot. The bartenders and support staff were too few and slow to respond to dirty plates, etc., The buffet oddly had nuts and other difficult to serve items on platers. Who places nuts on a plater and then provides tongs as the serving utensils. The food was not served in the correct order. There were no napkins to be found anywhere near the food! The Monarch club is amazing! I came in after work for drinks and small plates. We used valet parking in the front and had a reservation. The balcony was close closed with no service due to weather but our waiter did come out after we stayed out for a while 10/10. There was nice city views , a fireplace and cut views. Gorgeous rooftop bar! The views are incredible! They have indoor seating too but I am thrilled that we were outside to enjoy the beautiful city views. Located in the Metropolitan Building, take the elevator to the Penthouse. Reservations recommended. I really enjoyed my Tainted Love cocktail. The food is delicious! We had sliders, fries, and prosciutto and pear flatbread. Excellent service. You can't beat these views! The cocktails were ok at best but the price was insane. $20-$25 per drink to be ok is not what I'm looking for. We ordered the white fish dip and it was basically tuna. Stay away from the food and drinks. Basically just stay away. The view was awesome but the outside balcony was closed. The main attraction of this place was closed. Typically love it here, but went on Saturday & service wasn't great. We ordered drinks and sat for 40 mins before we ended up just leaving. They were out of the coconut milk in the drink we originally ordered and our server didn't tell us until we had been sitting there for 25 mins. After ordering a new drink we went to the bar to check in/let a few workers know and went almost 20 more minutes with no drinks. We decided to just leave and go somewhere else. :( read more

What beautiful rooftop experience. By far one of the best views from my past experiences. The weather was perfect. The fireside table made it a great space for 50 degree weather. I ordered the Michigan Old Fashioned which paired with the lamb meatballs and truffle fries. My service was on par for the space as well. First thing you need to Know: if you come here On a weekend night, you cannot be in a rush. Especially with the outdoor terrace, all 25 tables will be full. It is reservation only however, The poor servers are running ragged outside with essentially no assistance from Anyone. They are hustling back and forth, and you'll be lucky to get in and out in less than an hour and a half at least. Our server was so friendly, but I could tell She was in the weeds. All right, all right, I'll rereview the Monarch Club five years later, after saying I'd never return in July 2019. We went out to Detroit last night for a friend's birthday and his wife had booked us reservations here for after-dinner drinks. We arrived on time for our reservation and took the elevator up, they put us at a small indoor table which is what happened to me last time too, but it turned out to be more of a holding table. We were there for about 10 minutes maybe and then got to go outside. It was a 70° night in October which was pretty nice. Some of the tables outside have regular chairs and some have Adirondack chairs, we had the Adirondack chairs and they were very comfortable. Drinks were good albeit pricey, about $20 each. Waitstaff was friendly but a bit slow, otherwise this review might have been four out of five stars. One kind of random, nice thing that happened: a waitress came around asking if our group likes whiskey, I believe it was, and gave us two free glasses - I guess what happened is people had ordered them and then left before they showed up. The whiskey was a little watery but you can't complain about free alcohol. The views here are amazing, of course, I'm just not sure if they're worth $20 a drink. Overall I did have a much better experience here versus last time, and because of that I would consider going back at some point. read more

A favorite spot for us when we are in Detroit. Very elegant ambiance, nicely decorated interior lounge. In the summer you have the added benefit of the rooftop for cocktails and small plates. Service is very good, staff is friendly and attentive. We had the Burrata and Pine-nuts, with Balsamic Glaze and Pesto, it was excellent with good flavors. We also had the Sausage and Pear Flatbread, Italian Sausage, Pear, Goat Cheese, Garlic and Pesto. The flatbread was flaky, buttery and had really good flavor. Of course they do an excellent job on any type of craft cocktail you enjoy. Definitely recommend trying it when downtown Detroit. Reservations highly recommended. read more

I wish I had enjoyed Monarch Club more, because it's absolutely beautiful and the outside patios have stunning views. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. My wife and I were coming in to celebrate a special occasion, so I wanted to make sure we had views. I contacted them on Instagram and they suggested I book the "inside tower" as that's the area that has views of downtown, so I did... when we arrived only 4 days later, there was some sort of corporate party in the inside tower, so we had to sit in the bar area, which has no views. Did they not know they were hosting this corporate party only 4 days prior? I felt very misled, and I probably would've booked somewhere else if I knew we'd be stuck in the bar area (which admittedly is nice, just not what I booked or what we were looking for). The servers were also very slow despite it not being very busy at all in the bar area -- I'm guessing most of their attention was going towards the aforementioned company party. Cocktails were average. The charcuterie board we ordered to go along with it was good, but a bit on the small side for the price. I'd probably only come back here for a drink during warmer months, when their patios are comfortable enough to hang out. read more

I really wanted to love this place! The location and ambiance is great, but the service could use a lot of help. I came here with my girl squad to celebrate a friend getting married. We made reservations in advance so we scored a sweet spot by a firepit. Once we got there, we checked in downstairs and waited until we could take the elevator up. We had a bit of a wait downstairs only to be surprised by how empty it was upstairs. Our check-in individual was super kind though! Keep checking in on when we could go upstairs. Once we got upstairs, we were seated promptly. We were greeted by our server and excited to get our drink on! Our server didn't come back for a long time so we didn't get water or our drink order in. Very strange to not have a few options to choose from. But we ordered 2 to split and ended fighting over the last bite. Having the rooftop Monarch Club with panoramic city views was a nice in house option at the Element, but it is only open at the end of the week and closes at 11pm. I went there one night for a drink and snack, and noticed they had charged me 30% MORE for my VSOP cognac than the price listed on the menu. Once I told the waitress, they corrected it, but make sure you double check you bill before paying for your drinks. The lamb meatballs were a bit dry and dense, but nicely seasoned, and definitely a large enough portion to share. The Monarch Club is inside this hotel and it on the top floor and has a rooftop with an amazing view. I went with my friends for a book club meeting lol. We went for the drinks but we got hungry and tried to the food and wow Devine! Literally so good we got the flatbread and the truffle fries are literal crack says my friends. The drink I tried was dreamiscle and it was just the right amount of sweet. If I go next time I would get truffle fries and try strawberry fields. Atop the empire hotel this rooftop bar overlooks Woodward and Tiger stadium. There are firepits and tables but none with umbrellas. They have a wide cocktail, beer, mocktail and spirits menu including appetizers. We had lamb meatballs, flatbread and sliders and they were all tasty. They're not large portions and run ~$25. Cocktails were ~$14-20 each which i think is standard. Valet parking is available and not included or Z garage is open and detroit opera garage closeby. Valet was convenient and less $ for us though no cash. If you want the fireplace ask when you make reservations which are absolutely recommended and sometimes of the year required i think. Came here for pre-dinner drinks for our anniversary. I made this reservation a few weeks in advance. I had reserved the upper tower but we weren't seated there (the upper area was closed). I've been to Monarch before and loved it the first time and this time didn't disappoint either. It's located in the Penthouse of the Element hotel right downtown. Because there was a Tigers game, and two concerts happening that night it was an absolute cluster getting down there and finding reasonably priced parking. We ended up parking in the garage off Griswold and walking because the usual lots were way too expensive because of said events. So keep that in mind! We ordered a few drinks and some appetizers. Over all everything was pretty good and our server was attentive and very nice. Their food menu is small and not super vegetarian friendly but since we were just getting apps it wasn't a huge deal. I love the view, rooftop, and inside of this place. You usually need a reservation a few days in advance but you can sit at the bar inside. There are three separate patios so it is huge and fire pits all around. The cocktails are $20 and the small plates are all around $18 and up. The truffle fries ($10) are good and the aioli is great. The burrata ($18) came with 4 tiny crostini's that were completely stale and felt like they were going to break a tooth. The service was really bad this time, but has been good in the past. It took 20 min for us to get silverware and never got more water. Even getting water glasses took 20 min and then the waiter gave us another table's water pitcher. Our table was dirty when we sat and never got cleaned. I would go back again but hope for a better experience. read more
