This is a long-overdue review of Kayleigh's lovely service. If you are looking for a compassionate, non-biased, supportive doula, then Kayleigh is your go-to person. I say it from the perspective of being a minority and that none of my immediate circle of friends have hired a doula to assist their births. Adding a doula to my birth team is by far the best decision I have made. Here is how our story began. My husband and I were expecting our 2nd one in the midst of a raging pandemic. We don't have family around so the hospital policy limiting one person to accompany the birthing person urged us to search for a doula to support my birth while my husband staying home with our older one. As soon as we connected with Kayleigh, her energy calmed us down. We know at the moment that Kayleigh is the person we would want to be at birth. Kayleigh supported all the decisions we made as we pivoted to a home birth at 36 weeks. My goals were to have a VBAC and be with our older one throughout the birth. She provided the resources I needed from interviewing a midwife, a pain coping mechanism (boy did the mindful hypnobirthing work to ease the pain!), and a calming presence anchoring my birth. She was always there. Like many others have shared their birth stories, unfortunately, birth in the United States of America is highly controlled. Pregnancy is treated as a business despite the birthing family's wishes. Doctors and media filtered information that they want pregnant women to believe. I am so glad that we hired a doula who unravels many aspects of birth. Women can give birth without an epidural. Women can have a safe VBAC even in a home setting. All we women need is a firming voice that empowers us to make the decision that supports each of our unique families. read more

Kayleigh is a godsend. That should say everything. But I will explain... We started this pregnancy at Cedars Sinai and at every point along the way, they used fear tactics to coax us into their plethora of tests. Words like stillborn. Constant reminder of risk of miscarriage. The reiterating that c-section might happen. why they lead with negative and treated my wife as a car to mechanically fix cause it was broken, baffled me and pissed me off. i felt angry and hopeless. We knew we needed help. I had read the Birth Partner and knew about the value of doulas and midwives. At just before 32 weeks, we interviewed Doulas. Kayleigh was the only one to come over and her energy and love was present from the moment we met her. I felt very vulnerable knowing I had failed to give my wife the experience of having Kayleigh sooner in the pregnancy experience. And grateful she was in our lives now. Considering the hospital charged our insurance almost $30,000 so far for exams, blood tests, genetic text, 2 ultrasounds, and an amniocentesis and we felt horrible about having a child. Kayleigh came over for free and told us how she could be there for us for the labor and a couple meetings before and for postpartum support...we felt human again. Not like a broken car. Pregnancy was treated as a blessing for the first time for us, not a disease to be treated. we found the Del Mar Birth Center and Mothership / Kayleigh Harrigan close to the 3rd trimester and switched over. This began our pleasant journey to a birth we never knew existed. It certainly never felt possible at Cedars and without an ally like Kayleigh. I'll speak of 1 story. We get to Del Mar Birth Center. It's 7am after a night of contractions. Sarah, my wife, exits the car and Kayleigh, who was there before us, held her. (Wearing a mask, cause now we were in the full blown Covid pandemic) without words, they swayed together and my wife had a contraction in the parking lot. She felt safe. She was calm. One of those most beautiful things I've ever seen. It was like Kayleigh spoke the language of birth. forget about that Kayleigh shot our birth photos and I was phone free. Forget about that Kayleigh helped guide me to best serve my wife during the labor. Forget about that Kayleigh held Sarah's hips together as she yelped "my back, my back!" she did it all with grace and ease. God bless this world for bringing Kayleigh into it. Warning. Long review but this is a birth story review, so duh! Lol. At about 30 wks in my pregnancy I decided I wanted a doula to be present for my birth. I wanted the support for both my partner and myself since our families are not close. I also wanted a doula to help advocate my birth preferences for me as well. I am a RN with a career experience in a Postpartum unit and I know how easily it is for a natural experience like birth to be medicalized and I wanted to ensure as much as possible that my birth was free from the ever so encouraging "just let me know when you would like an epidural". I met Kayleigh for coffee for the doula interview and about 10 mins in I knew she was the one! I had a few more doula dates before her, but little connection was felt. It was so easy to connect with Kayleigh. She has such a warmth and loving spirit that makes you feel so comfortable and to me that was everything, especially since I knew a doula would be seeing me at my MOST vulnerable. I had another doula date lined up a week after I met with Kayleigh, but I quickly cancelled as I was so set on my feelings about Kayleigh. After hiring her, she met with me a couple times at our home before my EDD. During our visits, she shared lots of resources with me and overall we just had amazing discussions regarding the birth process and my feelings and expectations. I was so impressed with all her knowledge and especially the passion she has for the birth process. This girl truly loves what she does and it shows immensely! Even if Kayleigh wasn't sure on how to answer a question I had, she researched the H-E-double hockey stick out of it just so she could give me some evidence based information, I really appreciated that. At 37.5 wks, it was go Time for our wee one to make her debut. I had an U/S earlier in the week that led the doctors to believe that our baby girls growth was restricted and there could be possible placental insufficiency, so it made more sense for baby to be outside rather than in the womb. My Ob and midwife told me to come in ASAP for an induction. I still remember those scary words over the phone "baby is not growing" "induction" , it was so scary to me. Not at all what I was expecting (lesson learned!) After hanging up with my doc and feeling unsure about the scheduled induction (it all happened too fast), I immediately called Kayleigh. Looking back on that phone call, she really listened and helped me to analyze benefits and risks of the procedure, she also was kind enough to reach out to an OB colleague of hers that was able to chime in her thoughts regarding my med teams recommendation. After a bit of research and weighing the pros and cons, i decided to go into the hospital. Kayleigh was on stand by for me and arrived when I NEEDED her. Into the late evening hours Kayleigh never left my side. She was such a lovely and calming presence and really gave me the strength I needed to boost my mental and physical energy. Also, she made the labor room feel like a luxury spa! Faux candles were lit and the most wonderful essential oils (scents she knew we'd be okay with) filled the air. She completely took the hospital vibe out of the room! Even the nurses were impressed and said they felt so relaxed! During my labor, Kayleigh and my partner massaged my back and supported me in so many ways for so long I just don't know how they did it. Side note, she worked incredibly well with my partner considering they could only meet once before B-day. Not long after our beautiful baby girl was arriving and on top of all the wonderful coaching during push time, Kayleigh was able to snap some photos and vids of the birth! So thankful to have those! Kayleigh helped pass my daughter to me for that first skin to skin moment and I'll never forget it. Kayleigh was as wide eyed and excited as I was. It was just beautiful! The next day I texted Kayleigh an update and my gratitude for her. Please see my attached screenshot of our text. I'm not sure my written words can possibly capture how exceptionally wonderful Kayleigh is, but I shall try. While this type-A person knew it was impossible to orchestrate every aspect of my birth, Kayleigh helped me feel as calm and confident as I could be. That was quite the feat, considering we pivoted from hospital birth to home birth at week 39 and ultimately ended up with an unplanned c-section. This review is long, but it's a birth story! My husband and I moved to LA from Boston when I was 20 weeks pregnant. As first-time parents there was so much change all around us, and the pandemic was continuing to rage. Needless to say, anxiety levels were high. When I connected with Kayleigh for our consult call I was more at ease than at any point in the pregnancy so far. While I liked my OB and was planning for a limited intervention hospital birth already, Kayleigh patiently helped me explore my preferences with so much more patience, detail, and insight. Fast forward to week 39 and suddenly doulas were no longer allowed at the hospital where I planned to give birth. I immediately called Kayleigh and she helped me explore my options with her trademark ease and calm. I ultimately decided to switch to a home birth, which meant switching providers entirely, and I only felt comfortable doing that with Kayleigh as my constant. Fast forward... sixteen hours of laboring at home and progress stalled, I ultimately made the decision to transfer to a hospital. I'll never forget having contractions in the backseat of her car while she drove us across town through Friday night rush hour traffic! After several more hours they determined that baby's head was ascynclitic -- fancy word for tilted -- and it became clear that we were headed toward a c-section. Kayleigh helped me come to terms with what was happening and coached me through what to expect, including confirming my care team would be using a clear drape and offering immediate skin-to-skin. One of the best investments for my pregnancy and baby I did! We had an incredibly beautiful labor and delivery and Kayleigh played the huge role in that!!!! She has such a kind and peaceful energy and also a wealth of knowledge and experience. She helped me feel acknowledged with my concerns leading up and provided information that calmed me. The day of she set up all my comforting measures such as lights, candles, affirmations, and more. She really knew how to help during labor to relax my body and prepare with the exercise ball and diff techniques. Kayleigh was my doula for my sons birth in February 2021 (second child). We met for the first time via zoom (covid times!) and had a long conversation about my family, my previous birth experience, my hopes and dreams for this next birth experience. I remember the sense of connection I felt with Kayleigh during this conversation - her loving presence was incredibly strong even over video chat! And on the postpartum note - shortly after my son's birth Kayleigh arrived with a beautiful package for me containing my placenta pills, a tincture and oil. Kayleigh is clearly passionate about the birthing process, easy to talk to, and seems very knowledgeable. We met with Kayleigh for an hour while we were considering our doula options; in the end, my husband and I decided not to pursue the doula path (several reasons), but Kayleigh was on our short list if we had moved forward with a doula. With being first time parents, family on the other side of the country and the pandemic going on, we really wanted to find a doula for support. As soon as we spoke with Kayleigh we knew she was the best fit for us. She was extremely thorough in explaining the birthing process and different scenarios that may occur, took time to educate us and ensured that all questions were answered, and made herself available to us 24/7 for any questions and/or concerns. We made a plan to labor at home as long as possible with Kayleigh before heading to the hospital. As first-time parents, we were anxious or even fearful about the birthing process, particularly with regards to pain endurance and management as we wanted a natural, unmedicated delivery if medically possible. Having Kayleigh there prenatally to provide information, emotional support and to go over all the techniques that can be employed during labor was invaluable. My husband and I set out to find a doula early on in my pregnancy. We knew we would be delivering at Kaiser and it was unlikely that the OBGYN that had been following me would be there based on their on call system, so I wanted to have a doula who I knew and trusted to be there with us. I was also wanting a natural birth with limited interventions, though at the same time wanted the reassurance of being at a hospital just in case and I knew a doula would be able to help us navigate this. We spoke to Kayleigh first, and I knew she would be a great match for us before even speaking to the one other doula we interviewed. Kayleigh is just lovely. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable but she was so amazing to work with, and her calm demeanor but also straightforward attitude was perfect. Meeting with her beforehand greatly reduced the anxiety I was feeling, especially as COVID was hitting. She assured us we would make it work if she couldn't actually be there in person. She was incredibly responsive to my questions when I would text her, and always empowered us to do what felt right for us. Fast forward to my due date, and I was showing no signs of labor and my OB wanted to schedule an induction date. Kayleigh got on the phone with us and walked through the possible different options there are for induction, clearly explaining the pros and cons of each and what will be used when trying to help predict as much as possible. She also sent many encouraging texts, and suggested different ways to try to naturally induce labor. I tried everything, but baby was comfortable! Kayleigh still was not allowed to be in person at our delivery, but she was there every step of the way. I was induced in the afternoon 10 days after my due date, had almost every method of induction (Foley bulb, then Pitocin, then my water was broken). Kayleigh was able to advise so my husband and I felt like we were able to have the power to make choices whenever possible. After 30 hours and horrible back labor (yes she was virtually with us for all of it), I was having a really hard time and despite Kayleigh recommending different positions, it was clear that I needed to rest. Kayleigh was so supportive (and also suggestive along with my husband) of getting an epidural. 5 hours later it was time to push, and I remembered everything Kayleigh had taught me on how to push in a calm manner. Our baby boy was born 36 hours after I was induced, and both my husband and I could not have done it without Kayleigh. I continued to text Kayleigh with random questions about recovery and breastfeeding after and again she happily answered all of my questions. We also had a Facetime session a couple weeks after to recap our experience, which was so lovely because Kayleigh was able to highlight the positives of my labor (which I was beginning to process and be ok that it was not what I wanted) and give us an outside perspective/recap when I felt like I was only remembering the negatives of my labor. My husband and I will always be thankful for Kayleigh, and have recommended her to anyone I know looking for a doula in the LA area. read more

Kayleigh is so amazing I don't even know where to begin! From the first phone call with Kayleigh I could tell she has passion for what she does. Over the phone she was respectful and informative and allowed for myself to ask as many questions as I wanted. Our in person meeting was even better. I could feel her calming presence and she took the time to pour a wealth of knowledge into my husband and I. She made us feel supported and prepared. She was always there for any questions I had and always replied quickly. Everything prior to labor was beyond great but it was during labor where I stand in awe of Kayleigh. I ended up laboring for 48hours and Kayleigh was by my side the entire time. She was not only able to guide me throughout the entire labor but she also empowered my husband and mom as well, which was extremely important to me. Kayleigh didn't try to "steal the show" she was calm, humble, and knowledgeable. She set up tea-light candles, wrote out affirmations for me, used aromatherapy, made me a special "labor day" tea and used hypnobirthing techniques to aid in my delivery. Without her my birthing team would MOST DEFINITELY have not been the same. I was able to have a completely unmedicated birth in a hospital setting and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that part of the reason I was successful in accomplishing my goal was because of Kayleigh. I knew before I got pregnant that a doula would be part of my birth experience as I wanted to have as natural of a birth as possible but did not want a home birth for my first. I am lucky enough to have an OB who is encouraging of working with doulas and I asked for her recommendations as I thought it would great to work with a doula who already has a working relationship with my doctor. Kayleigh was one of two names she recommended. Kayleigh responded to my outreach email immediately with a bunch of helpful information and we set up a FaceTime meet and greet just a few days later. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to have her at the hospital with us or not because of the COVID restrictions in LA but she assured us that even if she couldn't physically be there she was 24/7 on call anyway. Luckily, the restrictions were lifted just before I went into labor and she spent a grueling almost 48 hours with us laboring at home and at the hospital. As I should have expected, nothing went as planned, especially with experiencing back labor and the pain that came with that. Having Kayleigh by my side riding those waves was invaluable. I have no clue what my husband would have done, that's for sure! She helped me with all the questions that came up and helped us make decisions before, during and after that would have been way too overwhelming alone. The time she spent with us beforehand and reading materials she provided us made us feel much more prepared. And having her with us in the hospital gave us support that no doctors or nurses could have ever provided. I can tell Kayleigh really focuses on her clients and their needs. She is not pushing her opinions, she is supporting you in yours. She always texts back immediately - even now! I'm still pinging her with questions 4 months later and she genuinely wants to know how me and my baby are doing. Kayleigh is such a gem and is also going to be an amazing midwife! read more

Kayleigh was the only doula I 'interviewed' and there is no need to talk with anyone else! She is an angel/magician. From the prenatal visits via zoom (dut to covid) my husband felt instantly relieved and more prepared for what was ahead. He couldn't stop raving to all his single male friends and recommending Kayleigh and her work to them... Maybe that will come in handy later?! All that to say, she takes what can be a very fear-inducing scenario and makes it welcoming, beautiful, and even funny. Anyhow, I first met her in person when she came to my home to aid me in labor. She is the type of person you feel instantly comfortable with. I say this, as I was naked, and crying in my bathtub when she came in and felt like the most natural and perfectly normal meeting in the world. She is pure love, light, and quirk on the outside, but don't let that make you miss her deep reverence for the birth journey and the woman's body as well as her rootedness and sincerity in seeing and calling out the beauty in what can be a disorienting, painful, and somewhat awful experience. This is the human being you want by your side for this journey. She couldn't come to the hospital, but provided me invaluable support my text message that greatly enriched my hospital experience. I am an RN myself, but she suggested interventions in the hospital to ask for that I never would have known to ask for. She came to my house post-partum with her beautiful presence and is a good place to land after the whilrwind of birth. This is a person living in the center of her vocation and purpose in life! read more

Kayleigh was absolutely incredible! She is such a genuine and kind individual and I can't imagine MANY moments throughout my birthing process without her! Kayleigh is kind, warm, supportive and funny! We are so happy we made the decision to include her in our birthing plan and our daughter's birth story. Initially I was hesitant to add an additional expense to an already expensive process but am grateful we did. Kayleigh is easy to communicate with and is responsive by email and text by checking in for support and sharing multiple resources. Having Kayleigh by our sides during the birth brought relief, comfort and consistency in the the hectic environment of multiple Kaiser staff that we saw leading up to and during the birth. She helped keep the mood calm and relaxing despite the chaos of bright lights and nurses yelling push in my ear. Meeting with Kayleigh while I was pregnant was informative and encouraging and helped me to feel prepared for what options I would have and what to expect. It added a layer of personalization and feeling seen that Kaiser was not able to do. Of course nothing goes as planned but knowing my options beforehand made it easier to make decisions in the moment and stick to what I wanted knowing that I had support from Kayleigh and my husband as advocates. Our birth was earlier and faster than expected but the suggestions Kayleigh shared to prepare for an unmedicated birth stuck with me while I rode the waves of surges. My husband was also grateful Kayleigh was part of our team and said she was kind, supportive and informative throughout and having her there helped him to feel confident in his ability to support me. Kayleigh's postpartum visit (that included delicious lactation cookies!) put me at ease during the hectic transformation into motherhood. Our experience with Kayleigh was very special. At 36 weeks pregnant my husband and I decided to hire a doula as we were first time parents and didn't feel 100% prepared for the delivery. I had interviewed several doulas prior, but Kayleigh was the only one I fell in love with instantly. I was looking for someone warm and nurturing, someone who was knowledgeable, outspoken, and trustworthy and we found all of these qualities and more in Kayleigh. We wanted someone whom was passionate yet would respect our views of medicine and birth, which she did in every way possible.  Kayleigh met with my husband and I prior to our delivery to help us explore feelings we hadn't yet processed and made sure I had the tools needed for the final weeks of pregnancy and delivery. During the delivery she was an angel. She spent the entire time taking care of all of my needs, guiding me through exercises and breathing techniques, massaging me and overall supporting me and my husband any way we needed. She rarely left my side throughout my 25 hours of labor. Although my family was there with me, the support I received from Kayleigh was very different and special in its own way. She advocated for my needs based on my birth plan and made sure I felt comfortable with the decisions that were being made. Today, 2 months postpartum, I continue to see Kayleigh as a great friend and support. She has provided me with resources when needed and has supported me in moments as a stay at home mom. Kayleigh has been such a blessing in my birthing experience. She was so kind, caring, loving and gentle. She handled intense situations with ease. I'm really comfortable having her around me and my baby. She has such a positive attitude and she's a very smart woman. I was in deep pain during my labor and she did the best to help me get through the contractions. I was 18 hours in labor and she was by my side all the time. She never left my side (she hardly eaten anything that day), constantly giving me the emotional support that I need, holding my hands, massaging my back, hugging me, assuring me that I would get through this and everything's gonna be okay. Epidural wasn't in my original birth plan but I ended up getting it when I was 3 cm dilated. Kayleigh was supportive in every decision I made. She had literally equipped herself with all kinds of stuff and remedies to help me get through the contractions. She is really skillful with pain management. She'd given me the best emotional support I could ever get for the birth of my first baby. She gave me professional advices on breastfeeding and adjusting myself to motherhood. Kayleigh is so special and unique. She's such a sweet angel. No one is as good as her. I definitely recommend her to everyone! Even my expecting friend will be having her as her birth doula in April! I will definitely have her as my doula again if I ever get pregnant in the future. She is irreplaceable! read more

Words cannot describe how special it was to have Kayleigh as our doula. As a second time mom, I had a lot of stress and anxiety carried over from my first birthing experience. With Kayleigh's kind words, positive energy, and extreme helpfulness, this birthing experience was a breeze! Who can say that about giving birth?!? Some of the many things that she brings to the birthing experience is a wealth of knowledge and extra helpful tips-- from "what to expect" at your prenatal visits/pregnancy milestones to hypnobirthing techniques during labor. When it was show time, Kayleigh was a huge support system for both my husband and myself. During pre-labor, she coached us through the contractions and gave us suggestions to manage the pain by using various birthing positions. She even transformed our delivery room into a calm and peaceful sanctuary that played music for mediation and was lit by candles. These touches kept my anxiety and stress at bay. Following our birth, Kayleigh continued to be a big help and fantastic support system--truly a one-of-kind doula. From the moment I first met Kayleigh she felt like an old friend that I had known forever. During that first meeting she was so easy to talk to and her presence was extremely calming and made me feel at ease. I left that meeting feeling like I had found our doula but decided to interview a few more as Kayleigh was the first person I had met with. After interviewing a few more doulas I was 100% confident Kayleigh was our person. From the beginning she was extremely respectful, informative, and easy to communicate with. I emailed her quite a bit throughout my pregnancy and she was always quick to reply with a wealth of knowledge. Once our labor started and we were getting into the thick of it we had Kayleigh come over to our house as we wanted to labor at home for as long as possible. At that point I was really going through it and Kayleigh was right there next to me comforting me and supporting me through each contraction. Once we made it to the hospital she provided the nursing staff with our birth preferences and helped set the mood/tone of our room. Kayleigh was a very calm yet empowering force in the room. She never left our side and was there counting for me during every push. She even took several photos/videos during that time and I am so thankful to have those. Her support throughout my pregnancy but especially during our labor and delivery was immeasurable and helped us to achieve the unmedicated delivery we were hoping for. My husband and I are so thankful and honored to have had Kayleigh on our birth team and now as a close friend. Kayleigh is such a kind, warm, delightful person. She has a very calming presence. All of our in person and virtual interactions with her were so enjoyable and we always left feeling encouraged and excited. Unfortunately we weren't able to have her along for our actual labor in the hospital due to COVID-19, but having her support through pregnancy, in deciphering labor cues day of, and other virtual support throughout labor was so helpful. She's really a wealth of info and is connected to many other wells of info so we always felt we could bring any concerns and questions to her. During labor, my husband was able to text and call her with many questions and get immediate responses. It was huge in helping him feel more sure in the craziness. We also really valued our postpartum visit from her. It was wonderful having someone we felt safe and connected with to process the birth and receive even more affirmation and encouragement from (something Kayleigh is so good at!) Overall Kayleigh was a wonderful support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. read more

We weren't planning on using a doula at first, but our OB (Dr. Kaiser at All Women's Care, also great!), recommended Kayleigh highly, so we reached out to her. From the first meeting I knew this was a good idea. Kayleigh is professional, and also flexible in understanding our needs - she was able to dial herself into our personalities, and made our birth experience a positive one. She met with us several times before the birth, and made us both feel more informed about what to expect at the hospital. During the birth, she made the vibe of the room more comfortable for us, and was looking out for us. She was there with us throughout the night, helping my wife breathe through her contractions, and allowing me to get a few minutes of sleep here and there. The nurses at the hospital change every 7 hours so having someone there with you consistently throughout who understands your birth-plan and your preferences is extremely helpful. She stopped by for some post-partum meetings, brought nice things for our baby, and we are happy and honored to now call her a friend! read more
