I relocated to SLO from LA. Since I could not find suitable housing in time, I had to put my life of stuff in storage, and the prior movers really packed everything in like sardines. In the meantime, I needed movers to extract a few items for my temporary housing set-up. Not knowing anyone out here, I asked Broad St Storage (who I also highly recommend) and they put me in contact with The Moving Experience. The 2 gentlemen assigned to my job were friendly, courteous, and had the utmost respect for my property. It wasn't easy getting the items I needed out, but they managed to do it with precision and care. I rarely write online reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience to protect others from giving this company money for their move. This was by far the most unprofessional and abusive moving company I have ever dealt with, and I implore you AVOID this company at all costs. If you want your items and furniture to be taken care of and arrive UNDAMAGED or ARRIVE AT ALL (as they did not for me), HIRE ANY OTHER MOVING COMPANY!! They do not care about you or your belongings. Here's a snapshot of my experience: I hired them to move my belongings from San Luis Obispo to San Francisco. From the very beginning in San Luis Obispo, the movers did not use blankets, padding, or any materials to meaningfully protect my items. I watched them place my dresser, nightstand, bed frame, and other wood furniture DIRECTLY onto the concrete sidewalk, then stack everything in the truck bare. By the time my items were delivered in San Francisco, nearly every major piece of furniture was damaged. My dresser and nightstand had multiple chips and scratches, my bed frame and headboard were gouged, my refrigerator had a large dent, and my picture frames were scuffed and chipped, and ripped, some of them irreplaceable. In addition to the damage, some of my belongings never arrived. My rug and lampshade are still missing to this day. During delivery, the movers also brought out items that did not belong to me, including a mattress and multiple framed pictures. I informed them immediately that the mattress was not mine and it was removed, but I was left with another customer's picture frame. This raises serious concerns for me about how customers' property was being handled. The most egregious part of this move occurred during delivery in San Francisco. After the movers arrived, saw the apartment, and began unloading, they did not raise any issue or mention any additional charges. However, halfway through unloading, they demanded an additional $412 via a Change Order and refused to continue carrying my belongings upstairs unless I signed and paid immediately. I was told my items would be left in the lobby if I did not agree. This happened in the middle of the move, after a significant portion of my belongings had already been brought into the apartment. I felt I had no practical choice but to sign in order to complete delivery, and I believe the way this fee was imposed mid-move was misleading, coercive, and improper. When I politely pointed out some of the damage, one of the movers, became hostile. He shouted at me, saying "F*** you man, I'm done," before storming out of my apartment. He left my mattress lying on the floor and the headboard loose and improperly installed. The other mover offered minimal help before also leaving, but the job was incomplete and I was left to deal with the situation on my own. After the move, I tried multiple times to reach the company's manager, Kevin, who was my main point of contact. I left several voicemails explaining that I wanted to discuss the serious issues I had faced. He never called me back--and has yet to do so. Adding insult to injury, before all of this, when I asked to reschedule my delivery from Sunday to Monday, which happened to be Labor Day, the company agreed no problem but sent me a text saying, "Yes, we can do that, no problem, but please tip our guys well as they'll be giving up their Labor Day." Asking for a tip in advance of service is highly unprofessional. I would happily tip for a job well done, but this could not have been more of a disastrous move. In the end, my total charges increased from the original $2,100 "Not to Exceed" estimate to $2,500 after the mid-move Change Order. My belongings were damaged and some items were missing, one of the movers verbally berated me and left the job incomplete, and I was required to sign and pay an additional fee in the middle of unloading in order to complete delivery. The company has since failed to meaningfully communicate directly with me. I have filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services. This company's conduct during my move was reckless and abusive, and in my experience highly misleading. If you value your belongings, your money, or your peace of mind, I strongly recommend choosing another company. This is personal property that TME said they did not have, shows up 11 months later on the FB marketplace. Yes I went and bought it back and the seller said he buys out storage units. This company is to be avoided at all costs - unless you want unauthorized charges on your credit card, falsifying your contract terms and charges without your agreement, Etc. All in All it was the worst "Moving Experience" of our lives. So many promises made by Kevin and Aaron that weren't followed through with and they are real con artists at best. TME moved us from SLO to Seattle 5/2024. See long distance reviews for same complaints - they underestimate, then upcharge after loading. Expect damage from poor packing and denial of almost all claims. They blame customers ("harassment"), personally attack, give the same answers as to why their disorganization, cutting corners, and lack of professionalism is not their fault. They play victim, use words like slander and fake legal jargon and policies to scare people. They know it easier for you to just move on than take their bullying so they can avoid any responsibility. They prey on SLO county so I sued them to expose their lies and behavior on public record. You can look up all their emails, texts, poor documentation, gaslighting, twisted logic, and unprofessional abusive interactions at SLO County Courthouse's re:SearchCA tool using the case number 25SC-0053. I wish I'd marked up the evidence more, but I will outline it here, plus the extensive Terms & Conditions on their site that you agree to by hiring them (be careful - they are constantly changing!). They even lied under oath despite getting my evidence before, saying I didn't show up last minute and added more to my move, etc. -Dillon promised lots but communicated nothing to "team". Said no need for added insurance, but their T&C allows them to deny almost all claims you make with standard. Others say even if you ask for more, they put you off until you have to move without it. -Jason underestimated the move in person. Once move starts, more charges pile on. Sign saying police will be called if you don't pay extra charges. -Told J and Nicole about realtor referral discount, but they put me off to "look into this" until it was too late. The realtor got a check to provide more victims. -For long distance, the truck is a SEMI. They were totally unaware that semi trucks do not fit in city residential streets until AM of move tho I let them know many times. Suddenly we had to pay more for local movers (that you have to separately source) to move our things into a smaller truck that I also had to pay for. -We were (intentionally??) told to go 1h away from where they unloaded the semi into smaller truck. Then we couldn't make it before they had to start paying OT so they unloaded w/o us. Per their T&C, they can sign off that everything was received if you are not present or unable to pay, waiving all your rights! My ACTUAL SIGNATURE appears in multiple places on this form, time stamped a week before delivery! Then TME wouldn't give the name of local company w/ our things so we had no clue about ETA until they arrive. -Local movers reported a poorly packed truck and no inventory used with our stuff on other client's things. We heard a worker overseeing inventory during moveout say he had no clue what he was doing. With all our things in the truck, I had to sign this unreadable mess of a document. "It's all there; no place it can go. Just sign to avoid OT charges." This document was never seen again - they cannot provide a copy. 5 boxes missing, 3 with all the wine (yes I know...we're not fancy). Ghosted x1wk; previously always got through immediately. I called the police for help and TME finally started looking. Boxes never found. We were told owner Aaron doesn't talk to clients but he called the realtor ASAP! -For claims form, they want you to sign a blank unalterable document online 1st - states it is your entire claim, waiving right to make any other claims. Finally got requested PDF after months. No response months after submission, then in process, then asked again to sign blank doc. Finally offered ~$100 after undisclosed $95 processing fee. Offer is not line-itemed properly, missing items they say they will pay for, and incorrect math (total is too low). Most damages considered normal wear & tear. Refuse to pay for missing boxes - say local movers may have stolen them and I have no evidence (bc they didn't use the inventory), but unable to show that they had all my goods up until local movers took over (no inventory). -Then they say wine is illegal to transport bc hazmat tho the "law" they send says only RUBBING alcohol prohibited. Later they say can't transport ANY liquids, but there was no notice before the move. -I finally request arbitration (they're legally required to agree) and am passed to claims adjuster as if they were arbitrator. TME unable to respond after this. Good strategy. -After they lost in court, their check got lost for wks but they refused to send a new one. USPS gods eventually came through. More fine print from their T&C or paperwork I signed: -discounted shipments (e.g. realtor codes) are not eligible for claims -they can revoke a discount anytime -you agree not to dispute credit card claims -all particle board damage is excluded from claims (so no incentive to treat it nicely) -they will sell your info -you will be responsible for any of their legal fees if you try to challenge any charges read more

The crew moved quick-pricing was fair. However, in order to hit the time budget, things were unloaded ASAP at the destination and my TV broke. The claims process is more than 90 days and they were willing to pay $33 for a broken TV. The TV was worth more than the move itself. Not satisfied with the lack of care/poor packing. Without hesitation, Aaron and his team helped me to get all the Vet paperwork and correct kennel to ship my mom's little dog from LAX to Little Rock, AR. He put the kennel together and drove us from the central coast to the airport. At check in, Aaron stayed with us to get through the paperwork and on board together to make the journey. He even made a surprise Starbucks run, much appreciated at 5:30 in the morning while waiting in a long line. I recommend this company to everyone. No job is too odd, small, or unimportant. I was giving The Moving Experience a second shot with the recent job they were hired for and I was once again let down. They did not show-up within the arrival window (8-8:30) and when they did arrive 20 minutes late they arrived at the destination location, not the origin where the furniture needed to be picked up. In the previous job they were also late upon arrival window and did not communicate anything in advance. Unfortunately when I brought this up to Kevin I was brushed off and he did not accept responsibility for showing up late, or at the incorrect location, just "we're here now." They will not be used again in the future. I would recommend getting a contact number for the crew so you're able to have a direct contact. I'm still waiting for a call-back on the AI chatbot in the answering center The Moving Experience utilizes, also, extremely off-putting. Customer service was severely lacking. DO NOT USE THEM! They quote a price then say it's over the limit and steal your stuff. When you realize stuff's missing and ask where it is, they say it wouldn't fit in new home and keep it until you pay thousands extra-that's just for starters! They do not respect your furniture, do major damage to both your items and your home, and as part of the release you are blackmailed/forced to sign states you can't get paid for the damage to your stuff and home. Damages far exceed what you pay them to move you. They take pictures of fine art and hold that hostage-some people NEVER get their art back! The police do nothing even though it's clearly theft. In the last year, the courts have had over 75 filings against this company-check it out. RUN DON'T WALK!!!! read more

Avoid at all costs. Asked for them to load a 15 foot U-Haul. Charged 1300+ dollars. To load a truck. Experienced movers did not arrive at the move site due to over booking on the company's end. Instead the dispatcher/manager and another new person arrived. The women showed up with only a broken dolly. Did not follow instructions, and broke over 1000 dollars of our belongings. Over another 1000 dollars of items we asked to be packed never made it to the destination. The movers arrived late, scratched our floors, and took double the time needed due to their incompetence. They had to call their other coworkers to the site to finish the job. They charged us for the labor of each employee, and overtime for late hours despite an initial quote of 600 AND verbally telling us they would only charge us 350 due to their incompetence. They left our house filled with trash as well (water bottles, drinks, wrappers, etc.) Don't bother complaining to the manager, she was the one that moved us and lacks any accountability. We tried to do a credit card charge back, but somehow they had time cards saying they arrived on time despite text messages that detailed otherwise. I had booked another moving (not local to SLO) company and the closer it got to moving day the more and more it seemed like I got scammed. I reached out to The Moving Experience and spoke to Jason who was AWESOME! I called 30 min before they closed and Jason STILL came to my house to give me a quote! He was absolutely the nicest guy! The Moving Nightmare Experience - at 75 years old moving across country on my own it couldn't get worse than this. Shameless price gouging- will move you out of state but then refuse to unload you once your things arrive at their destination. I was never told about this clause in our initial agreement. What moving company doesn't unload your things upon arrival???? Then - they didn't show up at the agreed-upon time TWICE so the laborers I had to hire to help unload had to be cancelled TWICE. The third time, once they finally delivered my things, I couldn't get the laborers there right when the truck arrived so they price gouged me for making their driver wait. $600 in advance for three hours - wouldn't open the door to my things unless I paid them. So sadly unprofessional with the worst communication I have ever experienced. If you want a nightmare experience go with this company! And that's what you get for 10k - and at 75 years old it might be nice to be super clear about what I would be responsible for in the end and give me a copy of this contract/estimate I supposedly signed- which you refused to do. read more

Coincidentally I also received your email regarding my refund and another not very nice threating one as well . It's to no avail as still today I have not received the refund. Per my conversation when I requested your services . I spoke with one of your staff and was given a quote and knew what my total would be so you can imagine my shock as to the final statement was when I received it. No worries you can keep my refund of $262.50 dollars. As my priest always says "they probably need it more than you do". Moving forward I encourage the following: *Disclose all charges during the quote.(Fine print and all) *Same rate for drivers as is for services rendered. And an extra hour wil be charged for the the drivers to do their job. Even though they probably don't receive any of that but okay. *Inform customer that there will be charged on their credit card regardless if they pay cash for the services rendered. *A printed receipt should be given at time of service as well as sent via email on the spot.(It's my understanding you had the receipt but it was not sent until a month and eight days later) *Staff should follow through with regards to any invoice discrepancy (accounting never called me) *Staff should wear uniforms and no offense but a T-shirt and shorts not a good idea , proper shoes should be a must (staff can get hurt in the process because of lack of proper work attire then obviously someone would end up on the wrong side of the legal system.) I had a tall order- I had a 3 day window to pack up, move out of my old place and into my new place before starting a new job in the new Year. Aaron and team came in and were honest about how to best get it done, and I felt they genuinely had my best interest in mind when working through what options I had. I felt the pricing model was transparent and fair, so I decided to move forward with a full service move. When the staff arrived on move day they were all eager help, professional yet friendly, and worked all day to get my stuff carefully packed into their truck. Your company should not be charging customers after the job is complete while they wait on resolving billing issues to get the employees "off the clock." I am experienced with moving companies and the math is pretty simple: charge customer for time it takes to do the move. Do not overcomplicate it with your state of the art system. And the travel time of 2 hours to go less than 10 miles should not be billed to customer-this was including lunch. Very unprofessional employees also. read more
