The grounds of this plantation are beautiful. It was overly touristy. But it was also spring break. I'd like to go back when it's not so busy and stay overnight to see what ghosts I can find. I did have a crazy experience with my K2 reader going off and no explanation to why. I wasn't around electrical, my phone was on airplane mode, and as soon as anyone else would touch the meter it stopped. We had coffee in their coffee shop. That place was popping! read more

We were disappointed. We went a few years back and did the regular tour and they told us the whole story about the slaves and the children and why the place is haunted. We went to bring my teenage grandson this past weekend and they did not mention anything on why the house is haunted. No stories about the slaves and how the children died. We didn't tell our grandson the whole story cause we wanted him to have the experience of hearing about it there. No mention of it. Our guide was great, but kept telling us if we wanted to know about the other stuff , we would have to take the night tour. Not everyone is able to take the night tour. It was very disappointing that they stopped telling the whole story for the regular tour. read more

My boyfriend and I spent the night inside of the main house of the Myrtle plantation. This stay also came with a complimentary history tour. My only gripe is that I love the ghost stories and wished I had the option to choose the mystery tour in the evening instead. We received a lot of historical information, but it also did not talk about the enslaved people of the plantation. I wish that were also included in the tour. On site they have a coffee shop and a restaurant as well as a gift shop. The restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay, but we did manage to make two trips to the coffee shop. Do yourself a favor and order the Nola coffee! It is not too sweet, a little creamy and just so good! If you decide to stay overnight, your complimentary breakfast is at the coffee shop. They have a decent selection of breakfast items to choose from which include a breakfast sandwich, a breakfast burrito, and biscuits and gravy to name a few. Such a beautiful spot and one heck of a change of scenery and pace after 3 days in the French Quarter. We booked the General David Bradford room and damn was our room spectacular! We stayed overnight on a Tuesday which sadly is the day the bar and restaurant are closed. Not a problem for us though since I have IBS (fructose and lactose malabsorption) and travelled from California with our camp stove and travel bar. Upon arrival we were greeted by Ivan the turkey. Little did we know how friendly Ivan was and that this would be the year we pet a turkey. Once settled we made old fashioned's and enjoyed them on the island with the ducks. For dinner I set up our camp stove in the parking lot (made steak with sliced potatoes) and we ate on the patio. Ivan the turkey hovering like a dog looking for a hand out joined us (he nabbed a piece of garlic steak toast with lightning speed). In the morning, walking around the property, the duck family that joined us for happy hour the day before overnight layed 2 duck eggs which I grabbed and later boiled (excellent breakfast). Before leaving we took the free tour given by Erin who has a great sense of humor and candor. The entire staff was very friendly and full of information, especially when I asked how safe are the duck eggs to eat (thanks for the float test tip). This was such a great stop for us off the beaten path between the French Quarter and our next stop in Lafayette. Food options though in St.Francisville, though we cooked for ourselves, seemed limited in this very small town so just be aware if you suffer from food issues like I do. Was finally able to visit The Myrtles Plantation and it was exactly everything I had hoped for. The staff is very friendly and answered all my questions. They do have a gift shop and you are able to spend the night. We walked the grounds before our tour and made sure we left New Orleans on time to avoid being late. We had the last tour of the day and our tour guide was very knowlegeable. The stories and experience of seeing the mirror and stairs are one of a kind. We were able to go upstairs but you're able to walk through the bottom portion of the Main house. They do have beautiful ducks near the pond and it does feel like there so much history there. We were able to walk around the back porch area and do plan on going back to spend the night. Highly recommend. read more

Booked a one night stay here for a spooky fun experience. The daytime history tour is included with the booking. This tour was informative and interesting. We also booked the nighttime mystery tour which focuses more on the ghost stories and legends. This was super fun and interesting. These tours are executed well. Our guide was Charles both times and he did a great job! The property and main house are absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. The grounds especially- I love all the trees and water. The house has some of the original furniture and pieces and other items dating from the 1800s. We loved the experience. We stayed on a Sunday night and their restaurant closes at 2pm on Sundays. This was super disappointing. We wanted to have dinner here but since it was closed, we had to leave the property to find somewhere to eat. 2pm is so early! We stayed in the William Winters room. Nice room, spooky for sure. Bathroom was very small and I don't think I could take a shower in the tub. It looks like it's more set up for baths and I don't take baths. It was just not a shower-friendly situation. My biggest gripe is that there was no hot water. No matter how long you let the hot water run, it stayed ice cold. This made for uncomfortable washing up but since we were only there for one night, we didn't complain. The other rooms on our floor had detached bathrooms. I will take my cold water over that- I can't imagine having to use the bathroom in the middle of the night or fresh out of the shower and having to risk running into other guests. Just feels invasive for us; we are people that need our own private bathroom. The only other thing to be aware of is that you need to come prepared to entertain yourself. There's no tv or anything in the room. Literally a bed and small couch. So we basically just watched videos on our phones all night, which we don't prefer. Especially since we wore headphones so couldn't converse at the same time. I would have liked a tv to have on during the night for a little light and white noise. I slept with the lights on cuz I'm a chicken and it was a little too bright but I refused to sleep in the dark. Overall, it was a great experience. Definitely recommend staying on the property and doing both of the tours! read more

I was incredibly disappointed in the tour. Let me clarify, my tour guide was engaging and sweet. This is about the tour leaving out any information about what makes this the "most haunted" place. If I had known the tour had removed any mention of what makes this home prolific or even historically significant outside of the brief mentions of it being a Civil War hospital I wouldn't have gone. The glossing over of the lives of the slaves, lack of mention of any of the murders, or even a little touch on the haunted factor made this a lackluster experience. Again, this was not the fault of the tour guide. But, I didn't go all the way out there for a tour of the furniture or to look at a couple of portraits. read more

Our tour guide Lauren was extremely good. She made the tour a great experience and was very informative and knew the history like the back of her hand. With the high volume of people and all the extra tours they had booked for the evening I was convinced that it would feel rushed and cut short but it wasn't due to the way they staggered the tours. Lauren never rushed us and answered all of our questions. The property was well kept and beautiful we hope to return one day for another tour and stay overnight. read more

We stayed at the Myrtle's on Halloween night and it was amazing. We had a beautiful, comfortable room and breakfast the next morning. The 1796 restaurant was a pleasant surprise and they made us feel so special. Our server Libby was outstanding and the food was amazing. Try their lasagna. We went on a ghost tour that night of the first floor of the house with Cassie, who was so knowledgeable and fun. The house is beautiful and historic and full of stories. We highly recommend staying there. Don't complain if you don't see ghosts! Just have fun! read more

It has always been on my bucket list to stay overnight at the Myrtles and it finally happened! We managed to stay in the main house and was not disappointed. Things did happen that we logically can't explain so it was great. The mystery tour with Cassie as our guide added to the overall ambience. She was very knowledgeable of the history and also added a couple little jump scares to create an immersive experience. The grounds are stunning and the staff was so friendly and seemed to really care about you being there. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. The Crepe Myrtles trees are beautiful! If you are looking for a big plantation home and grounds this is not it. The historic and ghost tour are interesting and they take place in the same areas of the house, which I was a little disappointed about. I stayed in one of the cabins on the property and was far from impressed. Mold in the shower, broken tile, and a bench seat to the table that was pushed up against the wall was placed as a coffee table. Only a closet with a few hangers and no dresser drawers. There is a mini fridge that didn't cool down drinks and no coolers allowed inside the cabin and no T.V., which is fine. read more

Rooms are excellent. Customer service is great. Ghost stories are a scam. Half of them are taken from movies like The Conjuring! There is no record of a Cloe in the slaves at the plantation, kids died of yellow fever not poisoning, and no one died in the 17th step. I am in the early stages of Parkinson's ( my mama lost her fight with that a few years ago) my wish is to stay at the Myrtle's and enjoy my life with the love of my life while I can still properly function. I went twice in two weeks time. The first was a tour of the grounds when the main house was closed to the public during the Coronavirus times then a week later with a friend who wanted to take her sister to go on the house tour when it was available a week later. Beautiful grounds. You can walk around the pond following a map detailing the history and significant aspects of the property. I was the only one out there and it was very peaceful. The home tour consists of several rooms in the ground floor. You can learn the history of the house, the people who lived there and several paranormal events that have occurred there and still happen. Someday, I'd love to stay there for the night. There are several rooms in the house and cottages available. There's also a restaurant on the property. Should be noted The Myrtles Plantation is one of the most haunted places in the United States. It's a must see! The employees and staff are very informative and helpful. Both times I had pleasant interactions with them - they have some very interesting stories to tell you. read more

My daughter and her friend wanted to visit a haunted house. I found this when I did internet search for most haunted places. I booked on Priceline- very easy! Not inexpensive at $250 per night per room. The grounds are beautiful. Staff is welcoming. They encouraged us to walk the property and gave map when checking in. I stayed in the new two story section and it was very nice. The girls stayed in the Crepe Myrtle cabin. It was also nice. It has a bedroom with two beds. In the den area it has a private bathroom. Both rooms were very clean and very nice, country cozy. Only issue for me was the ghosts kept me up all night. I am not joking. Supernatural sounds all around my room all night. At first goosebumps, after a while not scary, just loud. The girls had similar. We also saw a ghost for fractions of a second in the field next to the property on our late night walk. This place is really haunted. Breakfast and coffee were really good and homemade. Great way to start the day! Coffee 5 stars!!! One last thing. Keep an eye on kids. They have several open wells on the property. Wouldn't want the curious to fall in. read more

I was so excited to visit The Myrtles Plantation for a second time. However I now advise people to avoid it because they lie and have no clue how to treat customers. I tried to complain on Tripadvisor but someone keeps complaining of my post and so far TripAdvisor Experiences keeps removing it. Also Myrtle's Plantation has resorted to trolling me on Facebook and have done their best to silence me by attempting to continue complaining about my posts in hopes Facebook will ban me. Therefore after I posted this on Facebook I am posting it here and also Google since it appears Google allows customers to post their experience and not be swayed by businesses. When I call a day in advance to inquire about early check-in (the website states early check-in is possible if the room is available), I expect to be given what I was promised and especially if I plan around what I was told. When I called, the receptionist confirmed that my suite is NOT being used the day before I arrive; therefore, if I plan to arrive at Noon on the day of check-in, the room WILL BE READY at Noon since she was aware that I would have planned for it therefore driven nearly 14 hours nonstop to get there and will need to freshen up for a tour reservation at 4PM and our dinner reservation was at 7pm. Consequently, I planned my travel properly around what I was promised, and I did arrive at Noon on the day of check-in. Upon my arrival, I was informed that my accommodation was NOT yet ready. I informed them I had been assured it WOULD be ready. I informed them that I was told my suite had been unoccupied the day before, therefore I was told I could check in at noon so me and my family could freshen up BECAUSE OF OUR TOUR RESERVATION and dinner reservation. They informed me that check-in would not be available until 3 p.m as their website states. To tip it off, the staff actually verified that the room was in fact EMPTY the night prior, but they were dogmatic and told me I cannot check in until the maids have cleaned it. I stated that was NOT what I had been informed and promised. I WAS PROMISED THE ROOM AT NOON. After sitting for two hours and witnessing up to five other parties check in and get their rooms EARLY I finally had enough and informed them I want my room as promised, and they basically told me I was a liar because early check-in is not guaranteed... Even though they agreed that I was aware that the room had not been occupied the prior night...HOW COULD I HAVE KNOWN THAT WITHOUT BEING TOLD! Why argue with me? Worst customer service ever. As a result, I had to change my dinner reservations and purchased ANOTHER nightly tour and missed my daytime tour reservations that was free. They lied to me and tricked me into paying for a nightly tour and I couldn't do the daytime tour because of our 2 hour later check-in and prior dinner arrangements. I believe they did this on purpose to soak more money out of me or they are racist. read more

This was our first trip to Myrtles, and definitely be coming back. It was only an overnight trip, passing through to Mississippi. This is my review. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and well kept. We had plenty of time before we had to check in so we could explore. We walked the whole grounds and we're so impressed. The staff was courteous and they walk you to your room. The room we got was the Caretakers Cottage, it was small, but it fit 4 people just fine. The shower was pouring water onto the floor and my husband fixed it. It was cozy and don't expect a tv. There was none. There was a large spider crawling on my bed, but we got it out. Not the most extravagant if you are looking for luxury. The tour was ok. I was hoping to see more of the house like the upstairs but it's only for guests. Breakfast was included, just your basic cereal, eggs, and so on. Biscuits were good. Staff was very nice and attentive. Definitely worth going back and this time we will get a room inside the main house. And expect people at breakfast discussing ghosts. read more

Oh. My. Gosh. Best meal I had on my Louisiana vacation. The fried rabbit is phenomenal. Say it with me, "phenomenal!" The rabbit isn't dried out at all and the fried crust with southern gravy is exactly what you hoped for. It was so good! The Caesar salad was also unique but had the familiar notes of Caesar. The dressing was original and savory. And they didn't skimp. It was quite filling. It had delectable cornbread crumbles on top. Fresh, clean and very satisfying. The Mac n cheese was great, not the best I've ever had but I would definitely order it again! The grounds and haunted tour were very entertaining. Lots to see and hear about. Makes you wonder. I'm not sure I believed all the stories but I do bet some are true. I'm still looking back on my pictures in the haunted house. The employees can really tell a spooky tale and make you believe it. I brought my daughter here after we watched an episode of Sam and Colby on YouTube and realized it was only an hour drive for us! I love visiting different plantations and learning the history of them! The history is just amazing! The historic tour is very educational and interesting. Even my 13 year old enjoyed it. We also went back and did the evening mystery tour which was absolutely phenomenal! We had the same tour guide for both (Charles). He was awesome! He knows his stuff and made it so much fun! This is our second time visiting the Mrytles. We did the day tour more of the history tour and then we recently did an evening tour. I love both. I was worried that being that I just recently went in October, it would be more of the same but definatly different! If your looking to here more of the ghostly happening in the property go to the evening tours. You will not get as much on the day tours. Charles was wonderful. When you pull off the road and go up the long driveway, you are going back in time. It's wonderful. The check in is at the gift shop. The room jeers are beautiful and brass. The locks were installed upside down so as to keep ghosts out. But since it's one of the most haunted places in the country apparently it didn't work. I stayed in the General David Bradford suite. This is ac two room suite. The first room is a sitting room, with a couch and wardrobe and fireplace. The bedroom is a double bed that is so comfortable with a gorgeous half-canopy. I sleep like a baby. Some of the rooms are small, because back then, rooms simply were smaller. My friends stayed in one of the smaller rooms and it was also well appointed. They also have rooms another building and even guest cabins. They give tours all day at the half hour (9:30, 10:30, etc) in the evenings they have a slightly different tie at 7:00 or 8:00. They ring a bell to signify the start of the tour. I only state this because it was right outside my door. If you are staying at the hotel you get a free day tour. The grounds are gorgeous with a pond with ducks. There are birds singing in the trees and crickets singing. In the morning there is a complimentary breakfast, with things like a scone, a biscuit, grits, scrambled eggs, Baci of sausage, etc. we are outside on a brick paved garden area by crepe myrtle trees with hanging Spanish moss. read more

Experienced the evening tour with a friend. The stories were entertaining, the guide was sweet, but she tried too hard to make us feel scared or "creeped" out. Overall, I think we would have fared better to take the free self-guided tour as you only get to see the first floor of the main house. Other guests inquired if we were going to be able to see the second floor or other buildings and we were told they are not included in the tour. The grounds are well kept, but if you plan to see any of it, make sure to come during the day prior to the evening tour, as you will not be able to see it. The property, indoors and outdoors, are very dimly lit. My friend took photos throughout the tour. There is one photo that has an "odd" figure in it and a few others that are questionable. read more

The hype of the tour is Mystery tour. Seems fun and who wouldn't want to see a ghost floating around? Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She was dressed for the part. She was in the gift shop earlier and was a little snappy when she asked what we need. We were told not to touch the furniture or sit on it. We had a few in the tour group that did just that. My sisters and I chose The Myrtles for our Christmas luncheon. We had brunch at 1796 Restaurant, walked the grounds and then toured the home. The food and service in the restaurant was amazing.
