I'm so sad about giving such a poor review. My mother in law was visiting from Texas and asked about a place to get her nails done. She didn't want to go too far away from the Olathe area, so instead of sending here to my usual spot, I told her the Nailery would be a good option, since it's always pretty full. We picked her up with a bleeding finger! Her nailbed was cut too much and her finger was bleeding so much, she didn't have time to finish her manicure. We came the next day after her finger was better to finish up the manicure. I decided to get my nails polished while waiting for her, and opted for a gel manicure. I was already two layers of Shellac in when I realized that although I had mentioned and even used a image sample of the color I wanted, it was not what I had requested and that the color was not building up to my desired shade as I had initially thought. To make matters worse, the polish bubbled and smudged on the edges, and it was not placed evenly, as I can still see parts of my nail on a few fingers. I took my daughter here for her birthday. We set up an appointment time. They started her 45 minutes after her appointment time and I got in 55 minutes after my appointment time. She picked out a gel color. It was a completely different color. My daughter did not say anything as she thought the color might tone down under The UV lights.. but it did not. She also did not want to say something to make the person who was working hard on her nails feel bad. After the appointment was over I learned what had happened. We called and got back in the next day. The worker said their color samples were faded and then proceeded to scold my daughter for not telling them yesterday and letting her know how much work it was for her to fix it. A simple... I made an appointment for my mom and I to get pedicures for her birthday. I arrived on time and checked in, my mom was a few minutes behind. We sat in the waiting area for 15 minutes before the girl getting people set up got us to chairs, she should have just left us in the waiting area. We sat in the pedi chairs for 35 minutes, the water got cold, and when someone finally approached us she was just telling us that someone would be coming but she had to start on a gal that arrived 30 minutes after us because she had an appointment with her specifically. We told her we were out of time and couldn't wait any longer due to another commitment and she told us someone would be right here. 5 minutes later, still no one. The young girl running things said everyone had appointments (so clearly they over book for how many workers they actually have). We walked out, so frustrated, no pedicure. Will not be going back. Ghetto, 3rd world, Unhygienic, unprofessional and disrespectful! I went in for manicure/pedicure. I went during one of their busy times I guess, they left me soaking for 25 mins!! The male nail technician looked like he had lice!!! He's hair was greasy and looked like he hadn't washed his hair in weeks with dandruff the size of dinner plates! I wish I'd took a picture, it was so disgusting. I told the nail tech I have really bad calluses on the heels and bottom of my feet and I would like them exfoliated and graded with the metal hand tool. Without looking up to talk to me he says.. "it's unhygienic I don't do that" so I asked why? He totally didn't answer me. Look to the female tech to his right and started speaking Korean. Then they called another tech over who appeared annoyed and who rudely started asking me questions with a defensive posture about what I wanted, when I tried to explain want i wanted and how rude the nail tech was she started yelling and rudely asked me to just pay and leave. I said don't talk to me like that, she yells at the top of her lungs "DONT TALK TO ME LIKE THAT" ok psycho, she then turns to the nails tech/cashier and tell her to charge me for a package that included everything! I said I'm not paying that price especially since he didn't finish the job. I said I will pay for a regular mani, keeping in mind I was mid way through my manicure and I haven't even had my toes painted. Then that's when another nail tech chimes in with "call the police.."! A women who witness all of this felt so bad she offer to pay for my manicure, I declined. The worst nail salon experience I've ever had. They don't deserve any business from anyone!! Walked in and was immediately greeted by a women, who I think is the owner, which was a nice touch seeing as how this place is always slammed with customers. The atmosphere is spot on. I was super impressed by the selection of magazines, the decor, and the presence of stylish nail tech's, so I thought this might be my new place to go to regularly. Before I say a little more about the actual product that I bought, I will state that I am a nail technician myself, but due to a chronic pain issue it hurts too much to do my own nails, so I am always in search for a great place to go to. Instead, I got a sloppy mess of left over acrylic all over my hands the day before my birthday and my nails looked mediocre at best. I got a new full set with tips and gel polish for $56, which is a fair price, if the nails are done correctly. All of my nails are a different almond shape and size and I have gel polish all over my cuticles as well. My nails also have a "penguin's beak" look to them because the gel polish isn't level enough. So...I went back on my actual birthday the following day to sit with the owner herself and get them fixed.....Oh and before I get into it, I had to come back 2.5 hours after they already opened for an acrylic fix because no one could fix acrylic at 12 when they opened yesterday. When I came back I waited 15-20 minutes to even be seen, even though I was told to come back at 2:30PM when acrylic nail tech's were present....Anyways, back to it....She was blunt and tried to convince me that my shape and size of nail was the same size, BUT she would fix it for me anyways. All she did was take off my gel polish and put new coats on with a little filing here and there. Me gel polish looked shinier, but my nails still looked like shit on my birthday. I was very disappointed. She didn't even bother to put oil on my cuticles for this fix. Instead she got up and walked away to let me finish UV-ing my nails. This isn't the first time that I have shamefully gone back to the nail salon for a fix and had been treated sub-par. It is appalling that I pay for a service and get less than mediocre and I still tip 20% because I feel bad. I FEEL BAD!!! Which is ridiculous because I am paying for a service to be done right the first time and then if I come back a second time, I am disrespected because their pride is shook?! Come on guys? But I guess, they are good at simple things, like pedi's, gel polishes, and dip because they do have customers. Just don't ask for a full set or design or anything that needs detailing, unless of course you wait for that one specific person is there that can do it all. That's ridiculous. i attached the picture i showed and what i received. i asked for the original design but with 3 colors instead of just 2 (all 3 colors on every nail) and she said she could do that. i had a man do everything for my nails minus the design and have several small cuts from the file. the tv was playing a murder mystery show and he kept turning to watch it while filing. when the lady did my design, she used one brush for all 3 colors, causing them to look mixed on several nails. i made it clear after she did the first nail with only 2 colors that i wanted 3. she said ok and continued. then she decided to use all 3 on only my middle nail and did not even follow the pattern of the other lines. the nailery used to be my favorite but me and several of my friends have not been impressed recently. read more

Despite the mixed reviews I decided to give this place a try...probably shouldn't have. Made an on-line appointment with a specific technician, arrived right on time and was told someone else would be doing my nails. 1st red flag. She started removing my existing "dip" with a drill and then had me soak in acetone...instead of wrapping each nail. Then drilled again etc. I am a little nervous about how much damage has been done. The technician did not seem very confident in the dip process and I ended up with dull looking, uneven, thick nails. They are not filed or buffed smoothly. Then she put a gel topcoat and had me use the light for drying...umm isn't that one of the benefits of dip...no UV light?? Very disappointed! The plus is that I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. read more

I've been going here for years and have always had great service until today. From the start, it was a bad experience. I sat down for my pedicure and the water was cold. I asked the woman who started it to make it warmer and she said that was as warm as she could get it (it wasn't warm - it was cold). I opted for the $40 Deluxe and mentioned that the last pedicure I had didn't do my calluses so they were bad. She said I must have gotten the basic. When she did my nails, she dug at my ingrown mail so rough and so fast. It hurt so bad. Then, she clipped my nail too close to the skin and I started bleeding. She ignored it until I said something and then she told me that it was bleeding because I had a blood blister under my nail. When it came to the massage, she sis fine on my calves, but didn't touch my feet, so not only did I not get the foot massage but my feet did not get lotion. When I went to check out, she charged me $45. I asked why and she said it was an extra $5 for the "extra callus removal" - i was never told that I would be charged for this and I didn't realize anything "extra" had been done. I am so disappointed. I was on edge the whole time, I felt things were misrepresented (the blood blister and the extra $5), I didn't get an important part of the service (lotion/massage), and my toe is still hurting from being cut. This is a great place to get a manicure and/or pedicure. It's a large salon so they can handle crowds. They do a great job for the price. Often they have a pedicure special of $21. They have the nice message chairs and friendly nail techs who can speak English pretty well. They keep tools very clean, the salon is always clean and the techs are gentle. They aren't the cheapest in Olathe, but they do a great job. You don't need an appointment, but be prepared to wait 15-30 mins. on a Friday afternoon or Saturday, especially during the summer. read more

I first went to The Nailery with one of my friends and I had not gotten my nails done in a long time. The first time I had ever gotten them done was at the salon in JCPennys and they fell off very fast so I just assumed my nails couldn't hold them. The Nailery changed my mind. The set they put on held up very strong, looked very nice, and were fairly inexpensive. Today, I went back and had them put a fresh set on. These look and feel every bit as good as the last. My experience here was a pretty good one, conisidering that this was my first time visiting. Cons: My friend and I went around 3 o'clock in the afternoon on a Friday. That was a BIG mistake on my part because prom was the next day and it was severely overcrowded. We waited 20 mins to be seen by a nail technician. I suggest if you go to this or any other nail salon, to go in the morning when they first open or right before the early evening rush. We were there a total of two hours. Pros: The nail technician (Helen) that did my nails was one of the best nail techs I have ever experienced. She was gentle and took her time. She is quite soft-spoken so it was difficult to hear her, but she was friendly. I enjoyed the conversation I had with her. She was sanitary. She washed her hands and used gloves, as well as cleaned the tubs where pedicures were done. I do plan to visit again and hopefully the rating will go up one star. I go to this salon all the time and rarely have a bad experience. The employees are very nice. I've never had anyone there be rude to me. I'm in there about every other week for a mani and usually a pedi too. The employees remember me and the color that I always get on my nails. I love their massage chairs too. Serena F. got it right -- Tami is great! My gel manis that I get from her seem to last longer and they come out better. I try to get her if I can. Rose is good too. There are a couple other gals there that I like a lot, but I just don't know their names. If it's a weekend or a Friday afternoon, there might be a wait if you just walk in. If you don't want to wait, I suggest calling ahead and making an appointment -- even for 30 minutes later. I've done that before and it has worked out. The only complaints I've ever had is having to wait (but I call ahead now if I don't want to wait), them misplacing (like 2 times) the nail polish I always get on my fingers so I had to pick something else (gasp!), and sometimes the gel manis didn't come out just right. She is wonderful and my mani/pedi always turns out beautiful. It's worth the $5 to get the design on your big toes! Trang hand draws any design you want. The lady in the front did not even greet me with a smile, just "What do you do need? Then, "You go, pick out color. Wait 10 minutes." The 10 minutes turned out to be 20 min and then 30 minutes. I waited and I asked the very unprofessional and rude lady, "How much longer?" She said, "You should have made appointment, you come back tomorrow??" This woman was nasty and on top of that she was talking to her customer and her employees how I should have made an appointment, while glaring at me throughout the 30 minute wait! I usually don't complain until I have been disrespected and treated badly. The bottom line is that they are too busy to provide good customer service. I looked at their reviews from others and many have experienced bad maincures, full sets, with also upselling of services, to wait time of over an hour, even when there is a set appointment. This is the point she began being extremely rude & then tried to pull in & blame both the nail technician & the receptionist who were very sweet and at no fault. She told me I was lying about who called & made the appt & we were wrong for trying to be kind and leaving with nails we weren't happy with bc there were people still waiting for their nails to be done who had been there just as long as us & also bc she was having to do both of ours at the same time which I thanked her for. If this had been the first time I had an appt where I had to wait that would've been okay things happen but this was the third time I had to wait over an hour for my nails with an appt & one time leaving with half soaked off nails bc it had been too long & I had to go. I have been a loyal customer of theirs for years & had convinced my friend to go with me. I have never seen or had a business owner talk to me or anyone else like that. My friend spent over $100 in 3 days here to get nails she was happy with. After she turned her back & walked away my friend received a call with an offer of compensation. Compensation for a mistake that was made on miscommunication in her business that was not our fault doesn't wipe away the way I was treated. I wasn't even getting my nails done that day. Using my experience to take away the compensation is crazy. A simple I'm sorry about the miscommunication would have been really nice instead of the attitude. There was even a customer that had overheard this conversation and came out to my car afterwards and said she was sorry that happened and was proud of me for standing up for myself and that the way that was handle and how she talked to me was completely uncalled for and that she would not be coming back either. For the prices of their services , I would expect their staff to know English better. I asked for a very specific detail on my nails and the man who was doing my nails actually did it wrong. I tried to correct him, but he didn't understand me. (I wanted the lines to be at the top of my nails not in the middle.) The nails still looked ok even though it wasn't really what I asked for, so I just kept it. To be honest, even though they were just lines, some of them weren't even straight. I normally wouldn't expect perfectly straight lines from any nail salon, but the atmosphere, decorations, furniture, and of course prices had me expecting a lot more. On the menu, a basic gel manicure with one color is $20. He rung me up for $30 and an extra $10 for art/ detailing. I literally had him draw two small black lines on each nail which were painted white. With tip, this ended up being a $50 manicure and it wasn't even what I had really asked for. I had an appointment for 2 o'clock. I checked in and waited until 3 o'clock to have someone soak the gel polish off with my fingers. At 3o'clock I was then moved to another table and my nail technician was a man. Unfortunately I didn't get his name. This man severely rush my nail service. He was very distracted by the things going on around him. He was constantly looking over his shoulder. He was very careless with my nails. He missed my nail several times with the drill and cut my cuticles twice. He drilled so far on my nails that my nail bags were burning. When I mentioned this to him he said sorry and then laughed. This happened several times. I wanted red dip polish with a white party mail. The white party nail became pink. He told me that the pink would come off but it never did. My nails are uneven. They do not look good. I will never return to the salon. 10 out of 10 do NOT recommend. read more

Bad experience. Tech clipped the skin on my little toe. Was unable to wear a shoe all weekend. Will not go back.

The staff was friendly, however, I was very disappointed with my regular polish set. First, the technician ripped skin off of my cuticle, causing it to bleed. Then, he had me pay BEFORE polish, which I found strange. Not even 5 minutes after leaving, the polish was literally sliding off of my fingers. I'm not from KC originally, so finding a GOOD nail salon can be hard. My co-worker has introduced me to The Nailery and I'm so glad she did. Trang and Mimi are a few of the technicians I have had the pleasure of working with and they do such an amazing job. I had a gel mani that last 3 weeks!! I was so impressed! Typically they last 2-2.5 weeks, which is still great! I also, tried the dip for the first tome and I love it. They have an amazing color selection and amazing service. I love coming to The Nailery to get my nails done! read more

From the outside, this place looks nice. Prices are reasonable. The bathroom was not clean and the technicians are pushy when it comes to selling extra items. They also do a mediocre job at best (I've gone a few times, different techs, always the same result.) It explains why they can accommodate so many walk-ins. I will not go back, despite the convenient location. read more
