Just WOW! Please enter and pause a moment to take a peek, perhaps a wider glance, maybe a stare or an oogle, and then slowly take the time to look even more closely. Let the patterns, the colors, the sizes, the sometimes dramatic and hypnotic illusions and sense of motion draw you into the myriad of creations all wrought by creative minds and exquisitely skilled crafters. I have taught fine arts, crafts, and art "appreciation" most of my adult life.....and, I've created works using similar materials as well as others. BUT...I never have achieved the high degree of artistic elegance I found in these works during my visit to The National Quilt Museum. The scope - from miniature to room-filling examples of quilted (stitch by stitch by stitch) masterpieces to me is simply astounding. The untold hours of planning, design and execution of these works of immeasurable creativity do more than impress. They draw you into the realm of the artists/crafters, exposing both imaginary and real worlds of tones and hues and patterns and scenes. It is somewhat of a disservice to not name all the artists represented during my visit, but feel I must mention the featured artist Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry ("50 Years of Art Quilts" retrospective). Astounding hardly describes her work. The art genuinely brought light and life to my eyes and lasting joy to my heart. Note: I apologize to each artist represented for not specifically identifying them by their work in my photos. Mea Culpa

Heck yes! An art museum dedicated to quilts. If you know, you know. And if you don't already know the artistry of quilting, you will after you visit. The range of technique, style and size is amazing. My only suggestion is to expand the building so that more can be on display at the same time.

This is an amazing collection of quilts. They own about 700 quilts and display 10% of them at all times... About 70 quilts rotate.. I am a quilter and was in awe of the talent and skills on display. Even my husband, who is not a quilter absolutely loved going there. The building itself is impressive and sits on a beautiful piece of landscaped grounds. When you walk in, you are greeted by the most friendly people and then inside there are docents who will explain what you're looking at. You can bring up with your phone, a more detailed description of the quilt and the quilter. Otherwise, there is a brief description by each quilt. The gift shop is filled with interesting quilt related purchases that are pretty reasonably priced. The entry fee to get in was only $13 each (we had a senior discount). All in all, it was so worth spending the extra day and Paducah.

We enjoyed our visit here but I think it is a bit expensive for what you see. I'd guess there are 20-25 quilts on display. I think these are rotated. There are also 2 small galleries with current exhibits. I think we only spent maybe 20 minutes here. The quilts were great, and most very beautiful but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to visit.

This isn't your grandmas quilt! (Ok maybe for some) I am not a quilter... I appreciate the time and effort of the craft. I've been to Amish quilt shops, but THIS is an art. These quilts BLEW MY MIND. From far away you think it's a painting, maybe a photo and up close you see the endless detail. The museum did a fantastic job of telling the story of each quilt. And there were QR codes to bring up more information on the artist/piece. It was a great visit!

Great museum. The exhibits are so enjoyable and the artistry on the quilts is incredible. Fair price for admission. They have this exhibit where the artist pants the fabric to look like rock and then turns it into a quilt. The detail is stunning. My heart ached to view the 9/11 quilt display - a giant quilt with all the victims names. This is a must see!

I was pleasantly surprised and all I could say was oh, wow. I'd like to say I can sew, but this was like seeing the champions example. Love the NASA exhibit.

So I'm not into quilts, but I see it as a creative art for certain demographics. The National Quilt Museum is more like an art museum, and no that's not a bad thing! There's a lot awaiting the guest as they go into the large rooms full of quilts. The lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful. She answered many of my questions. One of them is men actually quilt! That's unheard of, for me at least. The museum has several special events held at the place at all times of the year, even having people from different parts of the world doing demonstrations and programs. They even have a program for children in which they encourage anyone under the age of 18 to get creative with quilting. As for the museum part, there are several pieces of quilt art as well as background information about the artist and their commentary and what inspired them. One thing I wasn't aware of is miniature quilts are becoming very popular and more interesting. The museum even has a quilt made of wood! No joke. No touching and no pictures, for the right reasons.

I am not a quilter; my wife is. I heard so much about this museum that I elected to try it. I was not sorry. It really is more than just quilting examples, some of these quilts are more works of art that happen to use quilting as a medium of expression. It isn't huge but the selection is diverse and all are worthy of your time and energy to look at them. The wood quilt really took me off-guard. I couldn't figure out what was wood. Check it out; you will see what I mean. We were on a paddle-wheel cruise so our admission was free, sort of. But I think I would still be happy had I paid the full admission fee. I recommend it, even for guys.

" Amazing Works Of Art " We visited the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY and saw some beautiful and detailed Quilts that you can find nowhere else in the United States. When you are in Paducah, Ky this Quilt museum is a must see. As you walk around and look at the Quilts, you have no idea how many hours each one of these Quilts took to create an then finish. They even have a wood quilt. They also had a display of Quilts made by Children in the Museum. This 25+ year Museum has many Quilt collections which are traveling around the United States come in for weeks or months for people to see.

Excellent quilts and fabric. Very good place to visit.

Know ahead of time that Metropolis, IL is cute and charming as heck. But besides this, there is pretty much nothing else to do besides Harrah's Casino, so I'd recommend it more as a road trip stop rather than spending a weekend here. You can easily be in and out within 2 hours max. The Super Museum, however, was a LOT more than I expected! This collection of Superman memorabilia is insane, and has so many pieces that are decades old, from many of the films, and some random, quirky stuff. The tickets were only about 8 bucks and you can spend as long as you'd like in there. They've got a pretty awesome gift shop, too! This is a really neat attraction to stop at if you're driving through Southern Illinois!

In their defense, it was a Sunday afternoon and most things in town were closed -- which is understandable -- but the museum itself was open. I stepped into the gift shop first and immediately felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of Superman merchandise. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Superman fan, but most of it felt like stuff I could easily find online. After wandering around the shop for a bit, I honestly lost interest and never even bought a ticket to see the actual museum exhibits. The town itself does have some nice touches -- there are several cool murals and statues scattered around, which were highlights. Unfortunately, the place felt like a bit of a ghost town that day, which made the whole experience fall flat. I'll probably give it another shot during their annual fair or on a weekday when more is open, but it'll be a while before I make the trip back. If you're a huge Superman fan, it might still be worth checking out, but manage your expectations -- especially if visiting on a Sunday afternoon. ----UPDATE---- After the staff reached out, I decided to bump up my review. Their passion for the museum really came through and I appreciated the response. As a huge Superman fan who grew up watching the original Christopher Reeve movies in theaters and collecting the classic TV shows, I expected something a little different. I'll definitely visit again on a weekday -- I'm sure the experience will be much better when I skip the gift shop and go straight into the museum. The gift shop was well stocked, but I personally wasn't looking to add more items to my collection. I mainly wanted to see old props, costumes, and classic collectible from the shows/movies and old toys.

When in Paducah for a recent weekend we decided the Paducah Railroad Museum was a must-visit. This Railroad Museum is kind of sprawling, given the space it's located in. There are several room and A LOT of railroad memorabilia and signage. Some of the signage is hooked up as a demo and some aren't. Some of the first things you see as you enter are vintage railroad furniture dating back decades. Looking at a seat from a dining car from the Good Old Days of Railroading give me a sense of nostalgia for a time that I wish I'd been around for. In one corner there is a engineer's simulator, showing the controls of the engine and what the engineer's view would be. We didn't get to step in, but I understand that it's an option. In one enclosure is an amazingly well done model train. I've attached a pretty nifty video I took. At this scale you wouldn't know it was a model (yea, I'm that good. :) ) On display are post cards, posters, news clippings, and magazines dating back, in some cases, 100 years or more, celebrating the way railroading used to be. Since I've always been fascinated by trains and tracks, this was very much a museum I could visit often (if it weren't about 3 hours from home) There is, of course, a gift shop with the usual bobbles and trinkets. Some are educational, some are for fashion (I'd never own a neon green t-shirt until I visit this place!), some are straight up souvenirs. It's all very reasonably priced. There's a feeling of "unfinished" at the Paducah Railroad Museum. Is it as polished as some larger railroad museums? No, it's not. It's a work in progress. In one room there is what I assume to be another model railroad being built and a few displays that aren't quite ready for Prime Time. And that is OK. You can tell that this museum is constantly growing and improving, and that it's being done by people who have a genuine love and passion for railroading. I hope to visit here again some time when I have more time.

A theater room complete with a stage and curtain! There's a Lego wall. And rubber band wall to make art. A small real plane to climb in and imagine flying over fields. Really too much to list. But wow! Great entertainment for kids (and parents) of all ages. Covid19 protocol: Bathrooms were clean. Hands sanitizer was placed all over both upstairs and downstairs. Employees wore masks. Patrons were strongly recommended to wear masks, although most didn't. Staff picked up several times while we were there.. although i didn't notice any surface cleaning. Now my cooty radar was a little high, but i get that way in any type of kids play area. I made sure my kids sanitized hands after each room and we washed hands before leaving. Lots of touchable surfaces. Pre pandemic, i wouldn't think much about it, but current pandemic, I just am a little more leery. So go with that in mind. And don't come if you or anyone is sick. When you walk into the house, you enter a beautiful, classic early 1900s home. A very welcoming home with reconstructed living room and kitchen. Prepare to be surprised! It is only when you near the back of the house that you find the white, rusted heavy iron door. Open this door and you enter a cold, dark realm that even Tim Burton couldn't recreate. Perhaps a hundred years for rusting and paint chipping contributes to the overall gloom. These are the prison cells that inspire modern day fiction. All the windows have bars. And the view from the outermost window is of the gallows. These gallows have been recreated in the position they originally stood. There are multiple rooms of cells which you can enter and take photos of. Don't use the toilets, though. They are a bit old. :) Escape back into the semblance of normalcy of the house and head upstairs to take in additional Benton history. The normal bathroom is up there: very clean. When the Beatles FIRST came to America, this is where they played. The museum curator stated that she was a young girl when they arrived: "We had no idea who they were...They weren't known in America at the time, but we all hurried to get a look. We didn't end up seeing them though." There is civil war paraphernalia and an autographed photo of town local John Malkovich. I highly recommend this location! The curator is very knowledgeable and friendly. The location is a few miles off the nearby highway.
