Just noticed The Nest has breakfast on Saturdays (in their 3rd week). Shall we say that we definitely did not need reservations? To be fair, it is in-between the seasons of ski and golf. Danielle was our waitress and she was very attentive and pleasant. She fended off well my brother's marriage proposal (if he was 40 years younger, taller, had hair, better looking, a nicer personality, and was rich he might have had a chance). Anyhow, your basic breakfast fare. I got the western skillet and the brother ordered the breakfast burrito. They were excellent! I mean, very tasty. This is a staple for my family when we are up north on a Saturday night! Saturday is shrimp night you get your choice of fried or my favorite old bay boiled shrimp! You can choose how many by weight and two sides. Everything here is always fantastic and homemade and you can tell everybody likes it because it's always busy! Stick to the bbq menu... except the burnt ends which were more like fatty steak bites. Nachos were soggy and loaded with canned/jarred jalapenos... olives... premade canned everything which was disappointing. Cole slaw was bulk gordon foods type mediocre stuff for 20 bucks. The brisket and pulled pork is solid. If we go back definitely sticking with a bbq saturday night like they have in the summer. The Service was good and friendly. Ambience is dated. This is a tough one to rate since the food was decent , service also good. Issue was they were very busy, Friday night. They told us they couldn't take our order for food for 15 minutes which is fair. Once order was taken (30 minutes later) we waited about 45 for food to come out. During that time waitress did her best. Asked to see mgr and Josh came out. No answers and was basically just giving us lip service. Good finally came and was for the most part good (fish). One in our group had a burger that was so overdone when Josh came back he was obviously embarrassed. At that point to his credit he took 25% off bill and the waitress comped our drinks. All we wanted was to eat and in a timely fashion. So if you go here and crowded may want to go elsewhere. Food decent but you don't want to wait 2 hours (our timing) if you don't have to. read more

The atmosphere here is very clubhouse with lots of wood tones. A very warm environment. This is part of the Shanty Resort. Both people ordered the bbq pulled pork sandwich.the meat was very tender with lots of flavor and bbq sauce only added to the overall taste. The bun was good, good stability, without being too much. The fries were good, but not the star of the show. An unexpected challenger  the coleslaw was truly excellent.  The person I was with fully agreed on all counts. I could eat a bucket of that coleslaw. The service was a little slow, but very friendly. Everything was very clean. Overall a 4 1/2 stars that I'm rounding to 5. I will be back! read more

second time here and this was the BBQ night ( Saturday). . Our bar tender was great made an awesome gin martini w the Mammoth Gin. only about 15 min wait and the food since was the BBQ was quick. Waitress gives you a ticket as you go up to people serving. The food was delicious!!!! A man playing guitar basically a one man band and he was really great . the atmosphere last night seemed much better than Friday night . The hostess and waitress all did an excellent job. the kitchen was not overwhelmed like it was Friday night . also I overheard on Friday night they had a party of 20 people that makes it hard on everyone. Stayed at Shanty Creek for a conference. Came here to try their Fish Fry. Husband loved their fish, lightly breaded and cooked nice and crispy without being greasy. I had their shrimp pizza. What a find! Looking forward to next year's conference and eating here both nights! Waitress was also very friendly. read more

Walked in and all of the staff had nasty faces, and very dry attitudes. We sat down to a paper saying the fryer was closed, (which apparently means half the menu is unavailable,) and then we got our drinks. Cup looks like it hasn't been washed in weeks. Didn't even get food just left. read more

This place is on a deep plunge. The whole staff should be fired. 40 minute wait with half the tables empty. We sat at an empty table and listened to music (the best thing about this place) our page went off and we were scolded for sitting at the empty table. The did say the were short staff. The golf course sucks no the restaurant sucks I live up here and I will never be back again and I will spread the word how bad this place is. Go to dockside that's a real restaurant bar. read more

Nice bar food is how I would describe the menu. We all enjoyed our meals. Patio has view of the putting green and 18 th hole. There was live music the night we were there. I ordered the bang bang shrimp. Not bad sauce is more sweet than spicy. Others ordered shrimp that was steamed or boiled but instead got peel and eat style. read more

We went for the BBQ event on Saturday - WOW is it delicious, some of the best barbacue we've ever had, including our experiences from down south. The plates are enormous with a ton of meat and while pricey it's definitely worth it. We ended up getting some to go! As far as their regular menu they have lots of options and it's pretty good, typical bar food. Service was good, although it was quite loud in the restaurant even with it not being full. Great spot for watching sports and chowing down on some fried fish--especially on Friday night with live entertainment! Enjoyed both haddock and perch fried filets, wonderfully crispy fries, some "meh" sweet potato waffle fries (with some amazing cinnamon butter!), and the Carolina pulled pork with coleslaw, which was excellent. Came here with my family. The waitress seemee overwhelmed because she had 11 top and we were a 7. A table from a different waitress got a different 7 top 20 minutes after we did and they had their food way before we did. Took forever to get a second round of drinks as my children's cups set empty for so long that they decided to throw their own cups away because they were sick of waiting. I've been here many times over the years and the consistency here is always good. They usually have some live music going in the summer outside. Lots of great beer specials and serve up some great nachos and burgers. This place has some of your typical bar food, but also offers up some great seafood specials. This is a wonderful little escape from downtown Bellaire or just a good break from the hotel at Shanty Creek depending on where you're staying. We stopped here for All you can eat Fish (haddock) on Friday Night or $12.95 and was it packed. There are tons of TVs so any sporting event you want to watch is available. We got to the Pelican's Nest around 8:00 and had to wait 20 minutes to get seated. Our table all ordered the fish and it was excellent, it's really fresh fish with a nice crispy breading. It comes with fries, cole slaw and tarter sauce, I am not a huge fries person, but these ones are nice and crispy and delicious. The service is friendly and prompt and I didn't feel we were judged by the ridicuously large amount of fish my DH ordered. While waiting for our food, we perused the menu and the prices did seem a bit high, but I am not sure about how large the portions for other entrees are. read more

This is one of our favorite local places to go. The food is consistently excellent and we've never ordered anything we didn't like. My husband loves the smoked brisket that's available in the summertime. He says it's the best he's had anywhere. We both think the coleslaw is the best anywhere around, except my kitchen! ;) I'm a big fan of the burgers and especially the coconut shrimp. My husband and I stay at Shanty Creek for a week every summer. We have been traveling here from Boston to enjoy the beauty of Northern Michigan. In all the times we've stayed here, we've never visited the Pelicans Nest but this time on our last night of vacation, we thought we'd give it a try. We were excited to be out after spending s long relaxing day at the pool. We were ready to have some fun, be social and have a good night. We walked in and thought it would be nice to sit at the bar to be social and just gave a good time. It's been an extremely hot day so when we sat down, I asked the bartender if she had a wine spritzer and she didn't e en look up as she said "no". I was just looking for something cold refreshing and delicious. Then we asked specifically for a recommendation for a cold refreshing drink and she looked at us like we were crazy! She said in the most condescending tone "I don't know. It's personal preference. Most of the people in here would say beer but you two are t looking at beer". My husband responded that he was in fact looking at beer. He asked what the summer shandy and her reply was "It's the summer shandy". At that point I knew that we would not be enjoying the time there and we got up and left. Lady, you are a bartender! Bartenders are supposed to like people and be friendly! What is your problem? My son is a bartender on weekends and he would have made sure that his customer got a cold refreshing drink and he would have enjoyed some conversation. You are clearly in the wrong business. We are currently at Toonies and having a cold blackberry wine with some delicious food! Glad we got up and left. Not friendly to handicapped persons. My wife and I went there to eat tonight and we were turned away in that she has a service dog. She has all the appropriate papers and documentation but that made no difference. They finally said we could eat outdoors but with the dog but not indoors. The owner who was planted at the bar would not talk to us about it so we left. My wife has had an aneurysm and 23 hours of brain surgery and to be treated like dirt here was such an insult. Obviously handicapped people aren't welcome here as the restaurant was busy so they didn't need our business. The nest is a restaurant/sports bar on The Chief golf course at Shanty Creek. I ordered the Trash Can pulled pork nachos. I ordered the 1/2 order and it was an enormous amount of food. It literally comes in a hollowed out bucket that they lift onto your plate in front of you. It easily feeds four for $8.95. Wife had the salmon sandwich and said it was very good. They also have outside seating overlooking the golf course. read more
