It's…read morein the middle of block between Ferry and Lafayette (it's around the corner from the PNC Bank on Ferry). The library is a sand-colored brick building with a small private parking lot. Like the other NPL branches, it serves the needs of the immediate community and provides library resources for adults and children. The neighborhood is home to a large proportion of residents from Portugal, Brazil, and Latin America. A distinguishing feature of this branch is its available Portuguese-language and Spanish-language collections, as well as library assistance in Portuguese and Spanish. There are computers available for Internet browsing, word processing, and access to the library's electronic resources. This location also offers computer classes. Newark Public Library is a wonderful library. Its branches are essential in supporting the NPL's noteworthy vision and mission. For that, I give the branches 4-stars for the work that its employees and volunteers do to enrich the lives of the people in the community.

The Newark campus is somewhat sparse with construction constantly going on just like in New Brunswick to beautify the school. Unfortunately it doesn't look like any of that is happening and after being here for a few years it barely looks like anything has changed. It's a headache coming down here in the morning and afternoon so unless you live near campus, which also not very inviting, it's just a hassle coming here, parking is a trap if you chance it parking on the street or you pay for a parking pass which still require $5 a pop after the $30+ subscription. Bursar, admissions, administration and everything else you have to deal with all bring on migraines and while I know this could be said for any University this one is especially so. I know Rutgers is held in high regard but personally my experience has been most unpleasant and coming to Newark for class is convenient but only a lesser of 2-3 evils.

The administrative building (Blumenthal) is found on University (between Warren and Raymond). You go here for all your registration and bursar needs. The health center is also found there. Most of the buildings where you take classes are contained in the block created by University, Warren, MLK, and Bleeker. Within that square, it's convenient to go to classes. Plus, in this square block are the Dana Library and the Paul Robeson Student Center. The dorms are between Bleeker and Central. Then there are the buildings between University and Washington - Center got Law and Justice (law school and some criminal justice classes there), the parking Deck, Golden Dome Athletic Center, and other classroom buildings. There is also another Parking Deck on Washington between Raymond and Warren. If you don't have a car, there are many public transportation options. The campus is located close to the Washington Street stop on the light rail, and there are also a number of buses that will bring you close to campus. There is a lot more passive green areas and places to sit outside, than when I went to school here many moons ago. It used to be just concrete and red outdoor tables that were bolted to the ground (not as picturesque as today). I am a fan of the Rutgers-Newark Campus. Plus it's close to the Newark Museum and the Main Newark Public Library, as well as the Haynes & Co. building and other nice spots in Halsey Village.

I had to print a large amount of copies and the copy machine just looked at me like "hey you're screwed". I'm a hairdresser I had no idea how to use this life sized machine. Luckily one of the gals working was so so sweet, stopped everything she was doing and came over to help me! I was so grateful I could stop thanking her. Copies are ten cents there and I would've paid so much more because she was so helpful and sweet. They normally have a great selection of new books too, access to a nice amount of computers as well. The only drawback to this library is that it does not have its own parking lot. Depending on the time of the day it can be hard to find a spot because it's located right on the main avenue of the town. You can usually find a spot on the side streets. Overall it's a fantastic library, definitely recommend it if you need to get some work done or are just looking to get lost in a good book.

This…read moreis mainly because of convenience because it's much closer than my school library and I'm one of those people who need to leave my apartment to get work done efficiently. The library itself is very nice and has an amazing staff that are very helpful. However it has fewer amenities compared with other libraries. The few things they do offer is free wifi, computer access, as well as the obvious books/references. There are roughly 12-20 tables to sit and read. They also have a "security guard" that is usually present during all hours if you need someone to watch your stuff if you step out. Most places to sit have electrical outlets if you need to plug in a cellphone/laptop/tablet/etc. Overall this is a nice library and the only reason I gave it 3 stars is because it is SUPER NOISY, especially after kids get out of school!!! I can't stress this part enough!!!! Don't be surprised when people are answering cellphone calls, laughing, or carrying on full conversations as if they were at a sporting event. It's not your stereotypical...."Shhhhh be quiet and if you must speak wisper" -type of library. There are also private tutors that use this space to help adults and children with language lessons and after school tutoring, so there will be constant noise anytime after 12pm on schooldays. So make sure you bring headphones with music or earplugs if you are like me and need to drown out background noise. I also forgot to mention they a very small museum upstairs and a children's library that is located in the back and I've never really spent any time in either location to be honest. From what I've seen, the library has a pretty decent selection of books and constantly change their available displays for popular new reads.

Life didn't seem that easy at the time but relative to what my life is now (mortgage, car payment, utility bills, etc,..) I would have much guidance for my younger self. Bobst always seemed to have enough places to hide and get away from everyone and everything. The walls of Bobst always did a great job of masking the chaos right across the street in Washington Square and elsewhere in NYC. That was always Bobst's greatest benefit, a place of solace in this great city which seems impossible. Back in my day, Bobst was also a place of knowledge but these days the Internet has probably taken on greatly some of that responsibility. A recent visit led me to revisit some memories, and aside from some minor alterations, the heart of Bobst still lives on.

You'll often see protests happening right inside the library, especially since the atrium is huge - very cool! There are no other nearby libraries that are open 24/7 for students, with security guards helping to find you a sleeping space @ LL-1 in case you needed it (check out near where the lockers/classrooms are @ LL-1). One of the guards would always announce over speaker "Good night" in 15 different languages and go out of his way to genuinely look out for every student's safety and wellbeing. Someday I will find these people and feed them some home-baked cookies as a thank you! Cons: - There is a TON of theft every day, so make sure to take your backpack/laptop with you wherever you go... even if you are leaving for 2 seconds to use the restroom. - Usually quite cold, so bring extra sweaters. - Stay away from the 8th and 9th floors, unless you wanna hear screaming couples getting busy in the individual rooms. - You might find dead bodies of huge flying cockroaches @ LL-1. - Sad that there were multiple suicides inside this building, but I'm glad that they were able to renovate the building with gates on all floors to be safer for all. In spite of the cons, I absolutely love this library and everyone in it! Will forever be grateful to have had the opportunity to fully experience the most beautiful place in the world.

The library takes part in the 'Rebl' program which allows you check out books etc. From another participating library. So if a book is out the librian will find out if another library a part of the program has it and have it held for you. The bottom floor has a very inviting children and young reader room full of things to check out and upstairs in the main library are everything else. Beyond books - editorials, magazines, newspapers and computers to use. What is great is the DVD wall. Hundreds of alphabetically ordered DVD movies are in the library ready to be checked out, so if Netflix and Redbox let you down for a movie a decade or so old you want to watch, you may find it here, for FREE! Just don't forget your library card.

The staff, as well as outside groups such as Seton Hall students, do story time several times throughout the week for various age groups. I've also asked the reference librarians for help going research on the history of the town and local community, and they were so helpful. They even contacted me when they uncovered some information days after I left. I am so impressed with their dedication, resourcefulness, and commitment to help patrons.
