Victoria Skoglund is often there, so you might get some tips from the most famous Swedish gardener-girl. They held markets every season, so it worth drop by here in October for some apple market, in December for Christmas market and around April for some Easter treats. Ulriksdal Slottsträdgården is a castle garden, cafe, shop, indoor greenhouse and outdoor self-picking field of produce and flowers (when in season). It sits adjacent to Ulriksdal Slott (where you can get a tour of the castle museum!) and the castle's park and Orangerie. I recommend visiting everything together. The day we spent out here was as close to heaven as you can get while residing in the Stockholm area during summer! Absolutely lovely!!! I can't wait to go back again this August! =) =) =) It's an easy drive here that takes about 15-20 minutes from the city center. There are also buses that come out here, but it's a bit more of a trek that way--You'll have to stop at "Ulriksdal begravningsplats" and walk for a while, the rest of the way. However, I think that your going to want to drive if your looking to do some shopping. They sell everything from a full grown trees to small flowers and everything in between. You can take an Uber from the city center, but that will cost you a pretty penny! The greenhouse is fantastic! It houses some of the most wonderful things inside. The cafe inside of it is also lovely. They serve a full vegetarian lunch buffet on weekdays for 155sek. The buffet's different dishes are always made from seasonal ingredients. They are also organic and locally grown as much as possible. I also like that you can schedule a delightful afternoon tea here on a Saturday or Sunday. They serve scones, pastries and sandwiches, all homemade (and mostly organic too.) You can choose between several different organic/fair trade teas to accompany your treats as well. Which, is all great! My favorite part of the day out here was a visit to the self-picking field and orchard! It was beautiful!!! A perfect vacation out of city life for the day! I thought the little hut with swinging daybeds for the occasional visitor to lounge on were exceptionally cute. You can't beat a day of cutting flowers, eating good food and lounging around. You have no idea what a luxury it is to pick your own bouquet of flowers out in the sunshine until you actually get to go out and do it! I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend a visit in August! Tip: Make sure to keep an eye on the their website for when the prime picking time is. I came back in a span of a few weeks between August and September and it was dramatically picked over towards the end. Note: The only real complaint I would have about this place is that the cafe's interior feels a little cramped, unimpressive and disconnected from the wonderful ambiance of the green house and self-picking fields. If they could find a way to clean it up and decorate it more luxuriously and thematically (even renovate or relocate to another structure with a lot of windows and outdoor space) I think it would improve the situation.

The front of the shop sells tea and tea accessories. For afternoon tea, they ask you to make your tea selection from the tins behind the counter before being seated. The tearoom itself is adorably decorated, with rose-patterned wallpaper and wicker chairs. The tea cups have a floral pattern as well. I ordered the "Professor Higgins", the simplest option for afternoon tea, with two plain scones. The scones were large, warm, and served with the proper accoutrements - clotted cream, jams, marmalade, on a tiered serving platter of course. Pinkies out. The Russian Earl Grey tea was delicious as well, if a bit too hot to drink straight away. I was, unfortunately, struck by little dingy touches that detracted from the experience. The glass tabletop had streaks from being wiped down, the white wooden floors were full of dirty footprints and scones crumbs. Seat cushions were squished and flattened against the wicker chair backs. It was also just absolutely dead silent, except for the hum of traffic coming from outside. I am sure it gets lively when they are busy, but on a quiet day, some music would have added a bit of ambience. At one point, the front doors were propped open, and someone stood right outside the door, smoking a cigarette. The smell of smoke was strong inside the tearoom, rather unpleasant to be honest. I would still give this place another try, maybe with some company next time.

Really, really bad!! I ordered a mixed Christmas flowers pot (julgrupp) in medium size from…read moreInterflora, to be delivered by Melanders Blommor. This was for my aunt who lives in Stockholm. I visited her a day after the flowers arrived and was shocked. Shocked over the tiny small, low quality flowers in that pot. I understand that the picture shown on the Interflora website is just an example of what will be delivered. However, the picture is there for a reason - To get an idea of what you order. What was delivered was not in any way similar to my order. Melanders Blommor obviously used the cheapest, tiniest flowers to get the most profit out of the order. I paid 700 SEK for this and my estimate of what was delivered is probably closer to 150 SEK. That is not the worst though. What is worse is that this was something that I bought for my 95-year old aunt to enjoy. This was only embarrassing and sad. I think Melanders Blommor should loose their Interflora "license" (or whatever they have). I will of course give my feedback to Interflora as well.

At least that's how he trained me ever since I read my first copy of his "Europe Through the Back Door" book sometime in the early '90's. Jamie W. and I passed by this one in a taxicab on our way to our hotel, which in my Rick Steves-hypnotized mind, meant we were walking back here to take our obligatory tourist photos. Ah, he has taught us well. It's centrally located in the city with the international Hötorgshallen food market hall right next door (photo: http://bit.ly/2l0SRlN). There is plenty of shopping and restaurant down adjoining pedestrian roads with the Sergelgatan (photo: http://bit.ly/2keNUGc) leading to the main pedestrian square Sergels torg and the eclectic Kulturhuset. The market has apparently been around in one form or another since the 1640's and part of it turns into a flea market on Sundays which is when we were there (photo: http://bit.ly/2l0R7sy). Now if you have been to a few dozen of these markets across Europe like I have, this is likely not the one that will top your list as there was a certain lack of vitality to the whole area. I'm guessing locals know better than to buy produce at the higher-than-norm prices offered here despite the constant caterwauling of the stall vendors. Still, the produce is impeccably presented, and there is native son sculptor Carl Milles' lovely Orpheus group statue outside the Stockholm Concert Hall to admire (photo: http://bit.ly/2l5fB3y).

It's and open air market in Stockholm Sweden…read more During the week it's mostly fruits and veggies. I've read that there are also lots of cheap knockoff items during the week. Located on a random square just off an outdoor shopping mall -- it's not a formal mall just a main drag with lots of shops. On Sunday it's a mixed bag but mostly it's a #globaljunking paradise. Lots & lots of glassware. My theme for this outing was mostly spoons and a Sunny Boy Harmonica made in Germany. I didn't do a lot of negotiating -- the prices seemed fair. English was spoken well enough to close the deals. I arrived at around 10am; a late start in the junking world. I didn't spend too long there but I was surprised that vendors were still arriving to set up their stands. Not sure of this means everyone got a late start or if there are deals to be had at all hours of the day. I'd hit this market again if I'm ever back in Sweden.
