The gardens and setting are absolutely lovely. We very much enjoyed sitting out back each evening for cocktails. Staff is friendly and very accommodating. Though the one window opened, our room didn't have much air circulation, and would have been uncomfortably hot and stuffy without a fan that the staff was nice enough to locate for us. We'd be reluctant to return during the warmer summer months. Enjoyed the one dinner we had there, though (and we are foodies) the dishes were a little too over thought and unnecessarily complex. With the two of us having different plates each course, out of only 4 offerings per course, we sampled half of the available plates in one setting. Since the menu was identical the next night, it made me very glad we'd not chosen the dinner option over multiple nights included when booking. Just a personal preference, but would very much have preferred to see simpler preparations using the fresh local ingredients and providing a somewhat broader selection. We really wanted to have our remaining dinners at local pubs, and asked at the front desk for recommendations. We were presented with a page of what turned out to be rather out of date suggestions, and it seemed that none of the available staff had ever actually eaten in the area restaurants. One of the two restaurants listed had actually been closed for months before our arrival. Another pub listed as a steak house had actually been reopened with a completely different menu many months earlier. So don't rely on the staff to help with nearby dining options. But we'd personally recommend Mezze at the Warwick Arms in Clutton and The Somerset Wagon in Chilcompton. Both were superb and only a very short drive. Breakfast was excellent every day and again the staff and service was wonderful. We wondered if, as casual travelers, we were staying in an appropriate place, however beautiful. The other guests in the dining and lounge rooms were nearly all elderly and very well dressed. The wife commented that she felt uncomfortable walking through the common rooms in simple smart casual attire. I'm honestly not sure we are in Ston Easton's target market; and felt a little better each time we'd run across some similarly casual couple. Don't know exactly what the inn can do, but would help they'd broaden their appeal to a younger and somewhat more casual base a little over time.

Breakfast was also fantastic with a really large selection on the buffet, including things you wouldn't expect such as jam doughnuts. When I went it was a special offer, so it didn't work out too expensive. I could imagine that if it was full price it wouldn't have been quite as good of a stay, but there does seem to be regular special offers. The location is a bit out of the way, close to neither the bay or the city centre by public transport, but would not be that far by car.

Despite reporting the cold radiator, the staff simply told me to turn the dial up--which I had already done to no avail. The dining experience was also a letdown. While the presentation was an attempt at "Michelin-style," the £10 mullet portion was tiny and swimming in excessive herb oil, which was difficult to stomach after a long day of travel. On a positive note, the breakfasts were good, the location is convenient, and it served as a helpful meeting point for my family. If you stay here, I recommend double-checking that any special requests are actually communicated to the staff.

There are two options: a traditional tea with a selection of both savory and sweet bites, including delicious Welsh cakes with clotted cream, finger sandwiches, and a good choice of teas. There's also a "gentlemen's tea" with gin and scotch eggs. Service was friendly and prompt. I would recommend reservations on weekends or busy seasons. Which at my age, I don't usually  use do but no one was using either and I felt like royalty. Besides the  excellent service and stellar interaction with hotel staff, I ate many meals at  the Cardiff Plaza restaurant and every meal was perfect. Nothing where I live  compares to  this hotel and the city close-by where I live is supposed to have  the best stateside. Compared to the Park Plaza it's a joke. I put up many  visitors at the cream of the crop locally and was disappointed when I saw their  rooms. The Cardiff Park Plaza Hotel was also priced very good compared to the  same quality hotels stateside. I hopefully will live long enough to return to  the Park Plaza Hotel! I have seen some disparaging comments on bookings.com, but I cannot see how any of them are…read morejustified. I'd like to respond to a few: 1. Lack of choice on the menu The menu changed every night, and there was also on the facing page a choice of standard items that were there everyday. Invariably on the changing menu there were a choice of three starters, three main, and three sweets. I think that is reasonable, given there are other choices too, which, as I say, does stay the same. 2. Children's menu was more expensive than the adults' menu I can't say that I found that to be the case, and the hotel were prepared, with some adult dishes, to do half portions, at half the adult price. 3. Never any towels in the pool area Whilst I was there they were constantly being replenished. I can only think it must have been a busy time. However, we were told towels were available, and what would it matter to ask for one before entering the pool? 4. The breakfast buffet was quite meagre Not whilst I was there. Plenty of choices of cereal, various fruit juices: tomato, cranberry, grapefruit, orange, and apple. Also, a selection of fruit cocktails: melon, grapefruit slices; I could go on. The hot breakfast had a tremendous choice. Most days I had the Traditional Breakfast, but on the last I had scrambled egg, done as I like it, and as I requested, with smoked salmon, which didn't appear to be farmed salmon. My wife came across the place by chance as our hotel booking was for the one next door. See a separate review for The Ormonde House Hotel. We stayed three nights. The children loved the pool. We had two double rooms. There are family rooms, but we were an extremely late booking. We were given an exceptionally low rate for the first night for the two rooms, and an equally good rate for the separate rooms for the other two nights. Given that we had walked out of the other hotel, I think we were extremely lucky to get any rooms, as nothing was showing up on the Internet, for what we wanted. The staff were very friendly, and some good-humoured banter. The host, Charles, was exceptionally good at making one feel welcome. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. I agree with another reviewer on bookings.com: I will always use this hotel on future trips to Weston. I had one moment where I mentioned that I didn't like the roast potatoes. I still think, although cooked properly, are left to go cold and are then reheated. Nevertheless, Charles was on the case, and apologised if I was unhappy. When I came to my sweet, I ordered a dessert wine, but they were out of stock. However, Charles offered me another dessert wine (a more expensive one) by the glass, and full to the brim in a large wine glass. This was by way of an apology for the potatoes. How can you fault that service? I can certainly recommend the house wines both the white and the red: Sauvingnon Blanc, and a South African Shiraz. I think that the wine list is pretty inclusive, and at a price I have to pay in other restaurants. Charles likes his wines too, and serves them at the right temperature. If I wanted to be really picky, I would have preferred other brandies. Although I do like Courvoisier, I actually really like Hennessy or a Bas Armagnac. They have recently decroated the lounge, and dining areas, which looks very good. The rooms we stayed in were OK, but they are due to be refurbished according to Charles. I have to say wallpaper is not a good idea for a bathrooom. The bathrooms were roomy, and had a bath with a shower over with a curtain. There was no smell on the curtain; as I have found with some other upmarket hotels. The shower had a good pressure, and I was more than happy with the facilities. Did the children enjoy their holiday? Yes they did, and a good hotel makes all the difference.

Marcel one of the bartenders although they closed at 11 if we were still enjoying ourselves along with other patrons he would keep the bar open longer; so accommodating. Also there were times I had leftovers that I would wake up wanting and the front desk would warm them up for me. Our room was clean and even when sleeping in it didn't matter that I got up after 2pm they still ensured our bedding was changed and fresh towels. This place is gorgeous bummer that they no longer have the spa and pool on the ground level but I understand it can be pricey to maintain.

She was eating celery sticks, and staring at something on her screen; hopefully nothing obscene, but who can say with these kinds of people? Anyway, she appeared not to have noticed me so I clacked my heels on the floor, and the reverberating echo which rippled through the foyer startled the lass and she quietly screamed. After she had recovered from her shock, she had become angered, and made little effort to conceal it. I told her that I was here for a hotel room and she said "yes I think I figured that part out thanks" before typing with her keyboard. Eventually she assigned me to a room without saying anything else to me, just handing the key card over without another word. The key card was greasy and almost slid out of my hand. That did mean that it slid into the sensor with ease, however, so this I cannot complain about. That being said, I would have probably preferred to have just stayed in the hallway and tried my luck with the mercy of the other guests. The room was about as sanitary as a swamp on a humid summer day, and I tried to make sure that I did not touch any of the surfaces as they looked diseased. The bed had a disturbing morphology and, upon further inspection, I found it's undulating crevices to be distressed. There was also a dead bee in the sink. I put the bee out of the window to decompose in the natural world, but then I could not close the window no matter how hard I pulled. My room had suddenly become an access-all-hours, free-for-all for the opportunists of society. You won't be surprised to learn that I didn't sleep very much on the lumpen, deformed and gravelly mattress. I decided to purchase the breakfast buffet, and went down to the restaurant area wearing a business woman outfit and heels so no one would question why I was dining alone. I should have turned around and sought alternative victuals after glimpsing the wretched nature of the diners. Their levels of physical fitness and mental acuity were subterranean, which reflected poorly on the breakfast foods. The scrambled eggs were fibrous, and the coffee that I had been so foolish as to sample tasted as if it had been brewed in a nuclear reactor. I knew at this point that I needed to get out of the hotel as soon as possible and never return.
