Their excuse for billing will be you subscribed for the "Special Edition". Total BS! OP will not refund. Zero rating ,I gave oakland press a 3rd chance or it may be 5 or 6 chance. I am so tired of the BS you get from their phone center I can't stand it anymore. I ordered the paper to be delivered only on Sunday for a very good price of 10.99 for 13 weeks, I sent in the invoice and a ck for 10.99. That was in Nov. 2025,after a few missed deliveries things straightened out, I gave our delivery lady a Christmas tip even though she hadn't delivered for long. Starting in late Nov. or early Dec.the Oakland Press started calling from India about a shortage of 3 dollars and 68 cents. They probably called at least6 to 8 times and wouldn't talk to my wife. When I finally talked to someone I to him that my invoice was for 10.99 not 10.99 . I asked him why it was different and got no answer .By this time I was finished with him because he kept talking over me and I considered him VERY RUDE. Please remember this is for 3.68 at that point I told him it wasn't about the 3 dollars this whole situation was lust plain stupid he is still talking over me so I cancelled the paper and wished him a good day and hung up on him while he was still talking .Their customer service just makes things worse but maybe thats what they want. Do NOT subscribe to The Oakland Press. I fell victim to a nice guy at Kroger who talked me into subscribing to Sunday only for $10 per month. This is less than if I bought the paper but is more than if I just signed up online - that comes to about $6.76 per month. My credit card was charged and I didn't get a paper. I called customer service to cancel and was informed that there are no refunds - he said the guy at Kroger should have given me the OP refund policy notification. He wouldn't listen to me and kept offering different promotions for the e-edition and daily delivery. He claims that he canceled the account - no refund of my $10 and supposedly he deleted my credit card information. I may have to change my credit card number - we'll see in a few weeks. I was tricked into signing up by some random people at the grocery store. They told me "just $10!" with no explanation of how often the $10 would be charged. I imagined a year or maybe quarterly. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with!! They billed be for two subscriptions and I don't have any!!! They billed me for $14 x 2 ... a total of $28 dollars for one month!! When I started to get papers (3) in my ditch...I checked my account...somehow it started back up not at 6.85 w/o but 22.50 without 1 letter? Started Oakland Press paper delivery on Sunday only in August. Worst delivery in Birmingham area ever. Called almost every weekend. received paper 25% of time. After an 20 minutes on hold finally ended subscription. 12-11-23 Customer service does not listen. Going back to Detroit Free press for delivery. This newspaper assured me that they had solved their delivery problems. I was a customer for over a quarter century, but canceled due to delivery problems. I was contacted over and over again to give them another chance. I finally gave in. Just starting out with 2 day a week subscription to see how they would do. After many weeks of not a single paper, and several phone calls, each assuring me this week is the week I'll see my first paper. Still nothing. So I made what was to be my final call, to cancel and get a refund. I was told that they had a no refund policy. I guess most fraudsters don't give refunds. They sold me a service that doesn't exist, and I'm the one that has to live up to a so called contract about a refund policy that I was never told about. The paper itself is not so bad. There is some decent and relevant editorial in a variety of categories. I liked the crossword puzzles, one from LA times and the other from tribune content agency. Less than 2 years ago I subscribed at $19.80 billed every 28 days. 8 billing cycles in it became $26.40, 8 more billing cycles in it became $34.40, 7 more bills it was increased to $44.00. About 2.5 x the original price in less than 2 years... Inflation being around 3%, This to me is someone with your financial info just outright taking advantage of you and hoping you don't notice. read more

The Oakland Press has become the worst company I have ever dealt with. I paid a six months subscription and missed getting the paper 55 times and only got credit for part of it. I received my new bill, the price had gone up $43 for the same length of time. I called and asked to speak with billing, I was on hold for 40 minutes. I explained my problem to the lady in billing and the fact the paper went up $43.00 when they new I missed the paper 55 times was ridiculous. She automatically cancelled my subscription without me asking her to do, which was fine because that is what I was going to do. I have been getting this paper for almost sixty years, all she could say is your account is canceled. Now I know why the company is so bad. read more

This company is a scam. The subscription was for 52 weeks and started the end of April 2022 and it was paid in full. It was weekend only. The Sunday paper rarely comes, I'm forced to call them all the time. They say they'll send a paper but they don't. They were asked to put it on the porch since my mother is elderly and can't walk to the end of the driveway. They've managed to get it to the porch less then 6 times (I'm being generous because I only remember 3 times). They don't deliver the paper but they refuse to cancel and refund the money. Numerous times they said they would extended the subscription another week because the paper wasn't delivered. Now they say they won't do that nor will they fulfill their 52 week paid subscription obligation that they've been paid for, ending the subscription 12/31/2023. They say it's because of 12 special editions, of which they admit they only delivering 5. Don't send them money, they are the worst company I've ever dealt with. I'm going to try and get the media to report on their scam. It's a breach of contract! Everyone here should contact the media, maybe we can get them shut down and better yet a class action lawsuit. read more

Be very careful if you have an Oakland Press subscription. They have raised my rates every six months and they state it is their policy and right to do so. In April 2019 my rate was $19.60 per month for Thursday, Friday and Sunday delivery. It has been raised to $50.00 per month, which is well above the face value of the paper. When I called to cancel and request a credit, they refused to credit and offered the same subscription for $11.00 per month. Why would they charge me $50 for months and then offer $11 after complaining and cancelling? Watch your bill every month. This is bad business practice. read more

I subscribed to the paper. Delivery was to begin Wednesday, February 26th. I have not received a paper yet. I have called numerous times and sent an email to complain.
