I went to Back Bay Wellness (Dr. Alex VanDerschelden) after being assured they had experience with complex chronic cases and that it would be safe to treat me some months after shoulder surgery. Despite repeatedly providing my medical history, imaging, and surgical reports, Dr. VanDerschelden seemed to gloss over any details of my case and repeatedly confused which shoulder had been operated on or when. I received a brief and routine neck and spine adjustment, around $398 bill, and was sent out. Despite my disappointment, I returned for a follow-up visit and was unexpectedly handed off to Dr. Ryan Dawson, who also appeared uninformed and confused which shoulder had been surgically repaired, despite having my medical history as well. An adjustment was soon after performed on my recently operated shoulder by Dr. Dawson, causing immediate severe pain in which I informed, but was told I'm fine and to breathe. My condition rapidly worsened, with swelling, loss of range of motion, and burning pain down my arm and neck. When I reported this to office, my concerns were largely dismissed and was told it's normal and to ice. I went back in seeking help as I was extremely concerned and I was encouraged to continue treatment and purchase additional services. Later, after I continued to worsen, I was told chiropractic care "might not be right for me." No refunds were offered for any of the appointments I had, but was told I would be "comped" for coming by to ask and seek help with these worsening issues. An MRI soon after would confirm my shoulder's labrum had been re-torn and my surgeon stated the injury was caused by the chiropractic adjustment. I required an immediate repeat shoulder surgery, which confirmed both re-tearing of the original repair and even new tearing as well. After informing Dr. VanDerschelden of the surgery and that I wasn't doing well, he has remained unresponsive since. Prior to this injury my surgeon had stated I would be near 100% with that shoulder around December 2025. It is now nearly June 2026 and because of the new injury that occurred at Back Bay Wellness I am still struggling with pain, significantly limited, and have been unable to return to one of my jobs because the physicality required. This experience caused significant physical, emotional, and financial harm, and I strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere. read more

I was skeptical because Dr. Alex was a, "viral" sensation. I've been to multiple chiropractors and they all get those cracks and I was thinking maybe his were enhanced because the microphone and it wasn't anything special but I had to give it a try. When I first tried to visit there was a 6 month wait list. When I came in the staff was friendly very professional. Dr. Alex went over my x-rays with me and I mentioned I wanted everything cracked. Full body please. He did give me some great cracks but the game changer for me was the Y strap. That ran all the way down my spine and I was in shock with how good it was and how much relief it provided. With every other adjustment I've gotten, I do feel relief, however it's just instantly. After every visit since the first, I feel the relief for daysss. He recently created a pillow called DozyBoy. I was also skeptical because I have so many pillows and I have not found a good one. This one is adjustable so I was able to remove filling to my liking. I'm on day two and it's pretty comfy. I recommend everyone give him a try at least once. read more

Keep in mind, I have yet to walk into this place of business and I'm already being charged another deposit. I've been going to Dr. Alex for two months now and I am so glad I found him. I've had lower back pain for so long due to a car accident I had 2 1/2 years ago.
