How great is their menu cover?…read more So great. How great is the food and service? Well... The service was prompt and friendly. Probably because most of the time there is nobody else in there. Yet somehow, they stay open (and even have a second branch in Golders Green). Maybe they do a lot of takeaway? And I am pretty sure there is a bar or karaoke place or something (not to guess based on stereotypes...) hidden in the back, as there are a lot of people coming in and out of this swinging door and you can hear Chinese music playing at a distance... but who knows. The food is on the good side of decent. With Sichuan Folk and Gourmet San nearby, it is hard to make a case for this place, though I WILL say it is far more 'western friendly' than Gourmet San, with a huge illustrated menu good for pointing at what you want. Everything we had was affordable, plentiful in portion, and tasty (though perhaps unmemorable, as I'm struggling to remember what things were called now). Would have much preferred the pop to have been played downstairs as no one, except my group of 4 girls, was dancing at all upstairs. Everyone was going IN downstairs, and if you're into house, this is the place you want to be for a good dance scene, but the downstairs lounge music was just meh in my opinion. Upstairs DJ was having some technical difficulties (with the perhaps CD driven system?) the night I was there but the music was decent and he kept my crew dancing. Cocktails were delicious. Shot stick of flavored vodka shots even better. You can choose from some interesting flavors, like salted caramel popcorn, pancake syrup, Bakewell tart and chilli, most of which were cloyingly sweet, but if it's that kinda night it's all good. Overall, if you're prepared to deal with some lecherous drunkies, this is a great place for a girls night out!

So it was in this hopeful spirit that I met my friend for a spot of light lunch at the apparently much hyped - I would go on to question this just a wee bit - Sweet Things bakery. After perusing the three seperate laminated menus, we settled upon a filled bagel followed by the aforementioned sweet treat. The service was warm enough, but when I placed my order for a bagel with cream cheese and tomato, I was perplexed to receive this response: "I'm sorry, we're out of tomato"? Hmm, what to do...luckily smashed avocado was in plentiful supply, so I supplanted that rarest of salad items - the humble tomato - with that instead and ordered a mini Oreo cupcake while I was at it. What arrived a our table was possibly the smallest bagel I've seen for some time - halfway between a mini bagel and the full-sized kind you get in a multi-pack of New York bagels - and a delicately decorated teeny cupcake - the latter was in no way a surprise in the size department :) I enjoyed the cupcake, I enjoyed my loose leaf tea...and based on the fact that my dining companion - a relative local - said unassuming cafes such as this were in short supply in W11 I may pop in again if I can bear the crowds that congregate at Portobello road market. I'm not promising though.
