As mentioned in another review, I recently spent some time in Norwich, U.K. and came to adore this…read morecity both for it's vibrant independent business scene and shops but also for the general truly European of the buildings and streets. My cousin is friendly with the owners so she insisted that we pay them a cheeky visit between lunch and dinner (for my North American friends, cheeky meaning, we were being bad and having dessert and booze between the two meals). Figbar is the magnificent creation of husband and wife team STEPHANIE & JAIME GARBUTT. I cannot do Chef Jaime any more justice so I fig-ured it best to share what I found on their website about his credentials as a pastry chef so you get a sense for the type of amazing treats I was privileged to enjoy! "Jaime brings to Figbar a stunning pastry background including positions held with Marcus Wareing and Gordon Ramsay at multi-Michelin-starred Pétrus, Galton Blackiston and Richard Bainbridge at Michelin-starred Morston Hall, and Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi in their flagship Islington Restaurant Ottolenghi. Jaime's credentials include overseeing production at Norfolk's Metfield artisan Bakery, consulting for boutique hotels and catering outfits, and running a seasonal dessert production company. He has featured on numerous international television and radio programming including Iron Chef America, Korean Food Made Simple, and Radio 4. In 2010, he opened Made In Camden as Head Pastry Chef. Following this he joined American celebrity chef Judy Joo to re-launch the iconic Playboy Club in Mayfair, London as Head Pastry Chef. From 2014, Jaime co-founded the Jinjuu Group as partner and Executive Pastry Chef, opening restaurants in London and Hong Kong." ... Needless to say, the man has extensive training and is a genius when it comes to sinful sweets. During my visit, I had the chance to try a few of his desserts. First off, the dish that my cousin claims, made him famous, a deconstructed Snickers bar, which was made of salted butter caramel, peanut parfait, and a rich chocolate mousse for £5.5! Following that, I had a second (and third) dessert which were features from their seasonal selection. The first, 'EGGNOG' which was spiced rum custard, roast plum, mulled plum sorbet, squashed fly mince pie for £6, and while it wasn't on the menu, we also had a version of the traditional English sticky toffee pudding, which was for more decadent and fancier than anything I've had in a long time - absolutely sublime!!! Paired with all this sugar we had a fancy dessert wine from I believe Hungary which was syrupy and velvety, very similar to a Canadian Icewine. It was delicious. Figbar, is a delicious place to come for a visit, as they claim, it's the best place to continue your date after dinner OR to grab a little something before the theatre or movie! Aside from the plated decadence, there's also a large assortment of ready to go pastries and yummy bites. If you're in the Norwich area, I strongly encourage you to pay a visit to Figbar - you won't regret it! Eatcrest Out!

I'd barely even caught on to the new trend with social media in London, so imagine my surprise when I was shopping through the city centre and walked by Bubble Tap on its opening day last winter. They're a bit pricey, but portioned to share, so we ordered one with chocolate ice cream, Nutella, strawberries, sprinkles, and cream and didn't know what to expect in terms of wait time. Would I come back? It's a novel, "grammable" dessert but not something I'd go out of my way to eat again, especially not on my own. Since that visit, I've learned that they now offer menu combinations dedicated to the scientists of Cambridge, like the Newton or the Turing. Interesting.

I confess I love waffles (a lot!) so when we went in I was already pretty much sold on the concept…read more The ice cream is deliciously creamy, the waffles puffy, and the toppings fresh. My son, not a waffle fan, hedged his bets on the milkshake. Both of us left very happy. This place is delicious and I like that the fruit is cut up as you order rather than prepped and sitting there all day. The place is clean and the seating and cone holders fun. I would highly recommend it and while the prices are higher this is definitely a sharing treat or whole meal! In sum, a nice local place (it's not a chain, so tourists please support it like the rest of our independent stores in Cambridge)! It is very instagram-friendly food and because I'm a student I got a discount, so I would remind people to bring their student IDs too! This was my first visit and I would definitely go back for the strawberry banana one! Nom!
