This bar was one of my favorites in Munich. It wasn't too crowded, so it was a great respite from the crowds in the center of the city. It has a great location near the center of it all. The inside is charming, with dark wooden panels, an old fireplace, and a bunch of vintage glassware. They have a lot of cheap, great beer on tap. We ordered delirium tremens and a few tripels and doubles, but they had an impressive amount of beer available for very reasonable prices. We had such a nice, relaxing time, we ended up stopping in here twice during our fairly short trip to the area. The bartenders were nice, knowledgeable about the beer, and the bathroom was very clean. Highly recommend stopping in this hidden gem for a beer or two! read more

It's been a few years since I stayed at the Old Nickel; but when I return to Amsterdam, I intend to stay here again. It's not the best hotel in Amsterdam but it's affordable, clean and centrally-located to everywhere you need to be. I last traveled to Amsterdam with my brother and two of my best friends. Being the only person who had traveled here before I knew where we should be (close to the "action") and this place fills the bill. It's also affordable, and has a decent breakfast and breakfast room. Also, there's a pretty fantastic bar located on the ground floor for your first and last drink of the evening. Friendly staff and reasonably-clean rooms round out the experience. Go for the value and the good location -- this is where it is. read more

They have a very good line-up of Belgium beers and by that, I mean, their beer selection is top notch. The bartender was cool and fluent in English. Music wasn't too loud, so great for conversations! Eleven forty two we arrive at the old nickel from a long distance flight, like a fucking hell fire on a winged whiskey still. The polite young asian girl tells us that the check'n time isn't till fourteen, or two pm in her soft voice that afternoon. But we knew that. Then she said we can go ahead and put are bags in the kitchen and while we wait for are rooms and to have a set at the bar if we'd like. Fuck yeah we like! Shit! Im a drinking gig'n son of a bitch. The bar. That fucking hotel bar. Very stunning bar. It surprised me. A smoker and a drinkers, late night lounge delight. Red leather and dark brown decor add's some old world charm to his place. This is something that you might expect like from photos of the 2o's 3o's and 40's. Seen a few beer stains on the fora flor, but that's the type of charm its has. Very detailed, minuet wood cravings, chain plates and tea kettles sit's on the shelves. Your typical beer sings or five... stuck to the walks. Vast amounts of beers, from Trappist to German pill's and a full bar for them heaving hitters when the cannabis just don't do. Old, smokey, just right for me. Good tunes where being play from there bartender that night. He fucking cut us off around 1am. We weren't dunk, yet. It mush have been last call or time for him to go get laid, something. That's ok in my book but I'm not sure how you'd check at night though.. The hotel rooms were down the street like fifty miters. Small small.... but clean. Hard bed's, a small sink and a ash tray's in the room. Shared bathroom with a big ass separate shower closest. It's loud on the street out there but who cares! I don't spend much time in the room anyhow and when I do its late and I'm tired. I just pass-out! Or sleep as you might call it. You shouldn't be inside anyway! Fuck, it's Amsterdam for Christ sake. Your in a crazy city. Its a respectable place or i would be typing this so, enjoy your stay and watch them stairs... read more

Aw the Old Nickel. Gem. I stayed here in 2008, with three friends. We shared a room for the same price as other friends payed for 10 bed shared hostel. I think we got the better deal. It was clean and the staff was friendly. We were able to go out and enjoy the city, find our way home rather late, hang out with other travelers and share stories, nip down for breakfast, which was amazing- fresh omelets, really!- then crash out. It was a great trip, and the Old Nickel had a great location and made it even better. Can't wait to return. read more

Have stayed here many times,and for value for money its IDEAL.stayed four nights 11th to 15th JAN and although we stayed in the hotels annex which has just been renovated,two beds shower room, tv.very clean as the two guys who took care of the rooms made sure off.A great location literally 5min across road from central station,very friendly and helpfull staff.You used to be able to smoke in your room,but apparently thats changed,though thankfully the windows open wide inward for anybody who is stranded 3 flights up,if you have stayed in amsterdam before you will know how much of a killer those stairs can be.all in all a great hotel which offers value as my four nights cost 190 euro for two sharing.now looking forward to next trip read more
