The One Crown in Watford has been quite a major bolt hole to me over the years, however, a few months ago, I deserted the place because it was being run into the ground by apathetic management and a money grabbing pub chain called P***h Taverns and the only thing missing from 'Happy Hour' was a complimentary razor blade......
In recent times it had gone through a series of tenants, none of whom, except for Jackie could quite understand the meaning of the word 'Hospitality' thus driving away the regulars, resulting in this historic pub closing for business a few months ago.
You cannot imagine how happy I am to announce that after a closure and refurbishment, The One Crown has finally reopened under new management.
Gone is the nasty smell of neglect that used to hit you as soon as you walked through the door and the dated, built - in seating has been removed, the 1970's carpets have given way to oak floors and the pool table is immaculate. The cramped entrance has been changed and the place has a nice atmosphere
Most bars that close down for a refurbishment usually reopen with higher prices, but this is not the case here.
Having had a chat with the new 'guvnor, Martyn Cannon, I feel assured that all the issues that affected the pub in times gone by WILL be addressed over the coming winter months in order to make the garden fit for purposeful enjoyment next year....... the old refrigeration unit has already been consigned to scrap and the newly silenced garden has been tidied up.
In short, the future's looking good for the regulars and I would like to welcome Martin and Shelley to Watford and wish them success and prosperity for their tenure of The One Crown.
Cheers! read more
