This place was a bit out of the way of Central Copenhagen (it took us 55 minutes via public transportation from our Airbnb but we lived south... closer to the airport) but the concept of "one of the largest open air museums in the world" pulled me in. And I wanted to learn more about Denmark and it is touted as a child-friendly place. I brought my two kids ages 4 and 8 plus my adult friend. It is also included on the Copenhagen Card! Essentially, they've rebuilt/restored Danish buildings and houses through history (aside from the mill - the mill is the only building that is in its original spot) all in one spot. They have little workshops where kids can do little crafts and such for an additional fee as well as places to sit and eat throughout the outdoor museum. There is a map (we mostly winged it) and you can walk into the buildings to explore. It did drizzle here and there, but that didn't stop the kids! We went on a Sunday morning and we were the only foreigners there who looked foreign. There were a lot of families there teaching their kids about their own history, though! They do speak English there so no worries. My youngest has multiple food allergies and he couldn't have any of the ice cream they offered there (I got an Equal Eats card for him with everything in Danish, just in case). The employee actually took the card and read through the ingredients list of each ice cream bar one by one. Unfortunately, they all are produced in the same facility so there was a possibility of cross contamination. Thankfully, I brought him food so he didn't starve. I did get myself a hot cocoa (nice and thick, not too sweet, and the homemade whipped cream on top was a good contrast). The kanelsnurrer though? That was great. Fresh from the oven and I must say that Danish cinnamon rolls are superior to what I've had in the US. Sorry. (But not really.) Super fragrant, soft but with slightly crispy edges, and you can actually taste the spices! Towards the end, the kids just played around in the rocks near the Mill and even made friends with some of the Danish kids while the adults took a break! Overall, a good time. They also have an amazing gift shop! We spent a lot more time than expected they're looking at everything. (But they aren't joking when they said it's expensive in Denmark.) Tip: The Classic Car House is right across the street, is included on the CPH Card, and has something for both adults and kids. read more
